Default I dont feel so bad now

Its very tempting to go for the one torp, one ship kill but I've learned the hard, infuriating way that its easier in the long run to fire at least 2 eels and increase the chances of stopping the target. I dont know how many times I've fired one torpedo and seen the ship steam out of view faster than I can regain contact especially in bad weather. It brings out the miser in me though. Everytime I have to fire off more than one I nearly cry because it cuts back my ability to sink more.

I was reading up on my present boat (U-98) on Uboat.net and saw that the real boat had been commanded by Robert Gysae and he had sank an Auxillary Cruiser for 10000 tons. Reading up on the attack it transpires that he fired 2 eels which missed. He shot off another 2 which also missed. He fired 2 more which hit but didn't sink the ship. After the crew abandoned ship another torpedo was required for the coup de grace.

7 torpedoes for 10000 tons?

I feel a hell of a lot better

There was one US sub that fired 8 torpedoes over a five-hour period, all at one maru. The target took six hits before it finally sank, and one of the two misses was fired while the target was sitting still.

On the other hand there was one maru that was hit once, and it was a dud. The dud ripped open a hull join, between two plates. The force of the ship's movement opened the rip more and more, and the ship finally sank.

We all have our bad days...

Any patrol that shows even one stinkin' sinkin' is a good patrol. In RL too manu U-boats didn't sink a thing.

Besides, where on earth would any 'sense of accomplishment' disappear to, if you were totally successful every time you left the pen.

If you could predict the outcome of every patrol... why even bother playing the game?

When I sunk HMS Rodney yesterday I fed her with 5 torps,

10 hours later she was still floating (deck was awash thought)
I checked my torps...empty as all the buttons where White out
wait...asked the WO 1 Reserve stern torpedo...it was foggy weather so I moved away...surfaced reloaded the torpedo...went back closed in till 400 meters
and aimed at her stern which in my POV needed a hole....and when fired it was a moment of gambling....will it sink now? finally?
torpedo hit...less the 30 minutes later she was going down *Hands up in the air* YES!

since I am using OLC's GUI for manual targetting my t/torp ratio has sunken drasticly...

In the past when I used my "uber" WO's power ti calculate the fire solution I had a 100% safety hitting the enemy where I wanted... and I know where the fuel bunkers are

One shot one kill at once was in 75% no problem and in 90% the target sunk within a "normal" time

Yesterday I attacked a convoy and shot two Empire and one liberty and only the Liberty I hit at his engines (right under the chimney) the two emipres I hit... but they steamed on like nothing... though on had a small fire..

The liberty slowed down to 2kt and was deck awashed but not sinking I mean at this point the ship HAS to sink... 2kt and the full front under water... we're talking about a 7t ship "grinding" inteself into the waves... no result..

Shot 3 (YEAH! three!!!) torps and all hit but didn'T explode... I set the depth not deep enough caus I hiut the front part and no use...

Lesson:
manual fire I will fire two shots
I will always check the depth of my torp for ships already "partially" sinking to get the right depth or shoot an impact torp

In real life, 50% of the u-boats never even saw the enemy.
