I've been seeing that anythign above 128 and you don't see as many ships and planes? What do most people use?
128 can take foooorever, and I'm not sure I see that much more when getting to a patrol area. I've been doing a 512 combo, slow to 128, then back to 512. Any other tips? |

I use between 256 and 512... if there is a long way to go i will go up to 1024.
something i have noticed in the past is game performance as a sign of nearby ships and planes. if you are sailing along smoothly at high TC and then the performance takes a hit, deop down to 1X and do a hydrophone check at 30 - 40 meters depth... you might find something if you listen for a bit. good luck

Same here. x128 most of the time, with a maximum of x256 in the open stretches where in the early war years at least little is likely to be seen. Only x64 when nearing a possible convoy location, anything higher can put you too close by the time you get the ship sighted message.

Usually 1024, and when travelling submerged I go 2048.
Only when I expect trouble I go slower than 1024. |

Used to use 2048 earlier, but now it's 128 for everyday cruise, 256 for transit through areas that are empty almost for sure and are NOT patrolled by enemy aircraft. After picking target max TC I use is 1.

OK, to the folks who sail around at 256 or lower: seriously, what do you do when you're waiting for your boat to cross the ocean? Read a book? Watch TV? This TC problem (no planes / few boats at high TC) is a real bugbear for me.
If I sail at 256 I fall into a coma before anything happens. If I sail at 1024 I fall into a coma because nothing happens. And 512 seems to be the worst of both worlds. ![]()

128 for me most of the time, 64 in hot areas. 512 in the middle of the ocean and safe from aircraft. There are times it gets boring, break it up by spening time on the bridge and getting the feel of being at sea. I make notes in a log I keep and try to uncover shipping routes. I also send out contact reports to Spinnennetz.

![]() I usually read books, as my PC won't let me do anything while the game is on. But it's not like "TC to 128 and forget it", I usually perform a hydrophone check every 2 hours, I frequently check the weather, we also do some battle excercises to bust morale (diving speed tests, depth tests, maneuvres speed tests and so on). I've got a habit of noting down some questions that arise while playing, then I find some info on the net, usually print it and thus I've got interesting material to read when on patrol. Steam turbine is on the record just now. ![]() ![]() And yes, it's quite often that notjhing happens in game before I feel sleepy. That's how it was, however. I listen to music, relax, think about things... And I really enjoy "slow playing". Before I used high TC levels, but that was really boring. Ship spotted, action, sunk, TC, ship spotted, acyion, sunk, TC... No immersion at all for me, that was not much different from playing Quake or Doom. Now I try to taste the long hours of silence. That's not only the way I like to play, I think that's the way I like to live.

128/256
1 - 128 or 256 - or if real life sets a short time limit for my playing (i.e. dinner in 1 hour): TC1024.
but mostly 128 (right now, AN45, march '40)
