In SH3, you could assign a damage control team and direct them to a specific part of the boat. When sustaining severe damage, the compartment the damage control team is working on will undergo repairs with a time estimate in minutes and seconds. The team will also pump out water in that compartment. In addition, any sailors in a compartment that is flooding will also pump out water. If a compartment becomes completely flooded, you lose the boat.
In SH4, things seem a little more confusing. You can give the damage control team priority on what to fix, but I've noticed that often items farther down on the list get repaired first. I'm not really sure if the other sailors are doing anything or not. Also, sometimes I'll activate the damage control team, but they won't do squat. I'm kind of annoyed there isn't some time estimate on the repairs like there was in SH3. Also, I'm confused about how exactly the game is handling flooding, and repairs to it. I've had a compartment completely fill with water and the only ill effect seems to be progressive flooding of adjacent compartments, but in most cases I can later pump out the water. That and not knowing the permanent damage my sub has suffered (where is the hull integrity % we had in SH3?!) That, or a little more broad of a priority, i.e. focusing all efforts on getting the engines working, or the sensors, or weapons, etc. All in all a step back in my opinion, even in spite of the nifty icons and plentiful subsystems. |
