So I thought I'd return to Silent Hunter now that the 1.3 patch is released and in order to get my skills up to spec, I ran all the training missions again. In the convoy attack training I managed to damage 4 merchants up to the point that they were half submerged and trodding along at half a knot or so. Running low on torps, I turned my stern towards a juicy tanker and lined up my shot. Suddenly, I heard some distant pinging and thought that a destroyer was close by.
Swinging my scope around, my blood froze. A destroyer was coming straight for me, ahead flank and pinging crazy. He probably spotted my scope, because I was all stop and running silent. Crash dive! I didn't have a chance. He ran over me, the sound of his props ringing in my ears and then....BOOOM! BOOM!! BOOOM!!! The boat was rocking all over the place, my crew shouting out damage reports. "We have flooding sir!" Quickly checking the damage chart. Goddamn! Bulkheads have given away in the engine room and aft torpedo room, both the prop shafts are shafted (pun intended). I quickly manage to put together a makeshift repaircrew from the jobless watchcrew and they get working. Then...a slight shift in the gravity...the stern is sinking! Flooding is out of control, so I move all non-repair crew out of there and shout at the repair crew to get that flooding under control. 160 ft...170 ft....180....190.... we're sinking! I order all ahead flank since the sub is standing like a tree in the water and finally! 190....185....180... slowly but surely, we're going up! Flooding in the engine room is under control. Aft torp room still filling with water. 190....200... DAMMIT! At 330 ft I order emergency blow. Doesn't seem to help much....350 ft. Looks like I'm going to see old Hob...Wait! 340....330....YES! After reaching the surface, all that can be seen is my bow sticking out of the water. FLooding in the aft torpedo room is finally under control and we're safe...for now. What an awesome game that was! I was caught in front of my computer for 4 hours straight fighting that battle against the flooding, all the while I was watching Das Boot ![]() Pictures, 1680x1050 8xQ antialiasing and 8x Anisotropic Filtering. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
