Sinking Neutrals

Hello again Kaleuns

Just recently I discovered that sinking neutral ships adds additional tonns to your total tonnage,as well as patrol reknown, awards as they were enemies (I am playing Silent Hunter III v 1.4 with U-Boat:Battle in the Mediterranean Add-On).

Everything started, when I was raiding a Liverpool Bay in November 1939 in my Type VIIB U-47.I encountered a lone sonar contact exiting the bay, approached, raised my periscope and saw a huge passenger liner heading west with U.S. flag.

I was hesitating and really aware of being,so to say, punished by BDU (I thought that they will minus my patrol reknown or something else) for sinking neutral ship, especially an American one.

But,nevertheless I took risk and sank it with two torpedoes.Hmm...that was really funny as Liverpool Bay waters are shallow and passenger liner could not sink properly-just bumped with it's hull to the bottom, and whole upper part of a ship was above surface.I think I treated, that liner very humanely so that passengers could wait on the upper decks until emergency boats arrive.Joke,of course.

When,I exited that patrol,I was amazed to see, that all 24 000 tonns for that passenger liner were calculated into a patrol score, and into total score, accordingly.

On my next patrol,in December 1939 my U-47 sank a C-2 Cargo,also going with U.S. flag.And again,all tonns were calculated.

So,I made a conclussion, that neutral status of certain ships is just an "Eye Candy" feature of Silent Hunter III and they should be sunk without single hesitation.

And,what are your observations,Kaleuns? Are you sinking neutrals either?

I will be glad to read all your comments and opinions.

Good Hunting Kaleuns

Neutral ships are counted to your total tonnage, BUT they should not be giving you renown for them. Instead, you should be losing renown by sinking neutrals.

But dont worry, I'm quite sure I know what the problem is.

This one:
U-Boat:Battle in the Mediterranean Add-On

Just try and sinking a neutral without the add-on, you either lose renown or you arent given any, cant remember which way it was in the stock SHIII.

Dowly,what other oddities,for example?

But,in reality there were occasions, when U-Boat captains misidentified ships and sank them.

Cant really say as I havent played it, but knowing the ones who made it, I can guarantee there's more.

I know it's your decision, but I strongly recommend you to download one of the supermods instead of that Add-On. You get more in the terms of quantity and quality and they are free too.

Using GWX, I sank a neutral (American) tanker by mistake --took a bit of a renown hit and got no tonnage credit for the sinking.

Long ago, in my Stock life, zapped a neutral inside a convoy--that cost me, too.

Dowly,

Yes,I am also going to try GWX as soon as I get a new vanilla English version copy
of Silent Hunter III.It's so rare in my location, that I have to wait 3 weeks until it will be delivered on my order from Estonia.

For time being I have a German Silent Hunter III version installed with that Mediterranean Add-On.

So,in future I am going to have both German and English versions installed on my notebook.German will remain with Mediterranean, and English version will have GWX supermod.

So,I think everything gonna be all right

Yes,I know, that I can switch between different languages, select different crew voices.

But I am already running a carreer, that seems successfull so far, that's why I would like to remain U-Boat:Battle in the Mediterranean Add-On installed.

In any case,it's always better to have more different versions of single game, isn't it?

And GWX is a must have thing,I admit that.

You can do multiple installs as well, you dont need another copy of the game for that.

Dowly,

I have already paid 9.99 EUR for new copy of Silent Hunter III in my local software store. It's called Ubisoft Exclusive Silent Hunter III.It must be delivered perhaps this or,next week.

The game I own now is called Silent Hunter III U-Boat Schlacht in Mittelmeer,it is totally German Version,100 percent German.

I am afraid, that there will be some sort of,let's say, font bugs if I install English GWX version on the German Silent Hunter III.

So,I decided to wait a while for DVD with UK version and do a multiple install.
