Default Well at least I lived to tell the tale

U-46 patrolling just off the NE coast of England in early 1941.

Lesson 1: It really does not pay to attempt to shoot down airplanes

A. It is difficult to shoot them down
B. Their bombs hurt
C. Their machine guns do not make the bridge personnel happy
D. Airplanes have radios that can talk to destroyers

Speaking of destroyers

Lesson 2: Trying to avoid a team of destroyers with only 60 meters of water under the keel is...stressful. It appears that submarines hide best when there is water under the keel. It is incombient upon the Submarine Captain to ensure that there is sufficient water before trying to avoid destroyers.

Lesson 3: It ain't over until Brunhilda starts yodeling.

I was playing with 80% realism with GWX. I have no idea how I survived, but it sure paid off having some Petty Officers and an Officer trained in repair. We limped back in to Willhelmsaven with just over 40% hull integrity.

"They build them good in Germany, eh Heinie"

Lessons learned for when I go out for my 10th patrol

Forget about fighting airplanes (especially when there are more than one and you are close to shore)

Make sure you know the depth under keel BEFORE the destroyer finds you

Never give up. There is always something you can do.

(oh and if you are dumb like me and ignore these common sense rules, have plenty of people trained in repair, it helps compensate for stupidity)

1941 eh?:hmm:

Hehe, just give it another 1.5 years. If you are worrying about MG fire to your bridge crew.:rotfl:

Good basic rules, follow them.

Aircraft =
Shallow Water =
Both together =

I have to admit it was one of the most enjoyable evenings I spent with SH3. I mean I really did not think I would have survived. It was awesome

Of course my flak trained Petty Officer that had been with me from the very start, felt a little bad about the Machine Gun aspect

It was my first crew loss

Coming out alive after an intense patrol is what makes this game
