Damage Control and the player
I haven't been able to put my finger on what was bothing me about the whole damage control issue in both SH3 and SH4 until now.
But thinking about it, what bothers me is the fact that if the sub suffers damage, the Captain knows that the crew is trained to identify and try and repair the damage in their area. To me therefore, there should be a button for the Captain to click on called 'Damage Report', and he would then receive an update from the team/teams attempting to repair the damage to the sub. I don't think the player should be involved in moving people around in order to fix damage to the sub, when in reality the crew would let their training kick in and start trying to repair the damage themselves as soon as possible. What I've done in SH4, is to use renown to place crew members in the Damage Control section of the sub, but in reality the crew would react to damage in their own area and that damage would lessen the efficiency of that area operationally until the damage was repaired. |
Agreed. I feel like I am left in the dark as far as damage goes... would be really helpful to know that I should not dive, or an indication that something is totally destroyed.

Check this out. Think about it though. If a bulkhead is badly damaged(almost dark red to the top of the meter) then chances are you will get patched up but not like new. Time to head to port. Read my thread on damage. |
But what if there's a hole in a hull and a bulkhead is repaired, so, no diving anymore?

The manual has been wrong about a "few" things, but I've found that this part is working. r. |

I've repaired some and been able to dive, others i repair and I freefall if I go as deep as PS depth. What I didn't do is actually look at the damage level in the varius cases and see if there was a pattern. It would be nice to know that the damage was so critical that the repair will not take toom much stress. A "get your ass to port" level of damage, even if fixed.

I dig that, but the crew could patch a small hole with something to endure at PD, but it seems as soon as you dive, you go straight to the bottom....:damn:
That is a bit frustrating...:arrgh!: |

But PD should not be some kind of super high-pressure for a small hole, a patch should hold it for a while or a small-rate flooding could occur, but a crash dive to the bottom...:hmm:

Hit points, now tham makes perfect sense, man!
Seems like I'm dead for sure if they hit me on a fuel tank... I just hope the devs included pyrotechnic effects... |
