The number it means that for example Squadron5No=8 you ll undergo an attack of eight planes or that the attacks frequency ll be higher than for example Squadron2No=3

I hope there will be consequences, because damaging commercial copyrights is damaging the reputation of the whole SH3 community.

I feel personally insulted.

The consequences for me would be that Iam leaving the Sh3 community, because I don't want that my work is compared with the work of thieves.

And I can tell you that Gerome_73 have exactly the same opinion.

We won't release any more models to the puplic.

Not again , I really feel sorry that this whole donots-testpilot problem isn´t solved yet . But I must also say that you should not judge the SHIII moding comunity by the behavior of one person. Given the choice of having your really astonishing work in the SHIII mod comunity and those planes released by him I think I can speak for many people if I say dump Donots-Testpilots work, stop him from posting his mods here ,which don t help anyone in the comunity but only cause really trouble for us, and let us then get over the whole thing once and forever.
And Roland I really like your work and the work done by Gerome, it is a real pleasure to see those long awaited ships for SH III amd I am really looking forward for every new release by you guys.
As you can also see I did newer include any of his works to this library and will never do so, just because I don t want take him on level of acceptance with all the others here doing really fine work .
I really hope that you will change your opinion and look forward to more releases by you and gerome.

You can be sure that will never happen here.:up: Donot76 always gets caught pretty quickly anyway, even though he keeps trying for some reason.:roll: It is a bit disappointing to find out (yet again) that those cool planes were stolen but I (and everyone else here, I believe) will not use stolen work.

"Empire" class freighter. A large, split deckhouse merchantman dating from approximately 1941-1945. Tonnage is 7200 GRT maximum. It will be used by the UK and Canada only - as far as I know the US did not own ships like this.

It's going to be a close thing - at this rate the beta of the pack will probably come out either this month or March.

Despite being from the US I'm partial to the Atlantic theater myself. I'll enjoy SH4 but I would truly prefer SH4 with an Atlantic expansion pack or mod... I wonder if we'll be able to do it.:hmm:

BTW, the Empire Class has been released to the beta testers, so check your PM's if you volunteered.

I am going to get SH4 as soon as it comes out but I'll probably be too busy with SH3 to have a proper campaign for several months.

As for my current mod there's a minor update: the 3d modeling is "frozen". All of the models for the initial release are done. It's in the quality control phase - checking for errors, making sure vessels break in two properly, and correcting the specs for each unit.

Same here :cool:. I swore I would not play SH4 as long as I will not have done a complete Norops and GWX career.

Another minor update: I just finished work on broken halves for 49 out of 52 ships. So far I have not experienced the crashes that AG124 and I used to get whenever our ships broke in two - however, I would like to test each ship to make sure.

Of the 52 vessels 41 are merchantmen and passenger cargo ships, 3 are liners, and 8 are tankers. I wanted a larger variety of liners and tankers but did not have time - this may be addressed with add-ons.

It is very easy:


1. Copy guns.dat, guns.zon & guns.sim from "Library" Folder of SH3 to "Library" of SH4.

2. Copy the Sea(e.g. NBB_Bismark) and "Roster"-Data(e.g. Data\Roster\German\NBBBismark.cfg) to the same locations in the SH4 folder

3. Open the ship's cfg in the ships folder(Data\Sea\NBB_Bismark\NBB_Bismark.cfg and add the lines:

I've installed the ships in \sea, ships' .dat files, and the guns in \library
I can't see the roster file for put it in russian\sea folder;
I've tried to make they, but my SH3 GWX 1.02 crash! :down:
how can i do it? :damn:

Also there is a zip file in the sea folder for the dat which needs unzipping

Am guessing though that the CTD was because the 7y has exactly the same naming conventions as in GWX except the class name

Try this

Wow. Escorts and Russian cruisers and tugs, finally a German CL - even a SH4 conversion of the Repulse. And I thought things might slow down once people bought SH4.:up:

That triple turret on the Russian cruiser would have come in handy for me since I really wanted to try a US cruiser to go with the "Perth" after I finished with the Merchant Fleet Mod, and none of the stock SH3 turrets was a good match for the US triple 8" battery. Now that ships and weapons seem to be going back & forth between the two games I may be able to use the real thing... :hmm:

The stock SH4 warships exclude the line altogether.

One plus is SH4's ability to set different skins for different periods of time WITHOUT the need for an external tool like SH3Cmdr. That's gotta be good. ;)

EDIT: Actually, this feature looks pretty powerful. You can set it up so that the same ship can use different skins depending not only on date, but country as well. Every British River Class, for example, could be set to use pink or green skins whilst every Australian River Class uses a blue one. And so on.

Early/Mid/Late skin packs could be internally supported.

And it extends to submarines.

That's cool.

Hehe. I was just thinking about how it can apply to planes.

Now we can have one plane model, but different skins for different countries and set it up through the cfg files so that Australia always shows the RAAF roundel skin, USA always the US one and so on. Could simulate roundel AND skin changes through dating them in the cfg files.

I did notice that the current files all point to tga files that don't exist. Perhaps the dds files are extracted before being used? Dunno...I'm not a graphics person.

Ahhh...and for planes at least, you can share one model across multiple variations, for example look at the USDiveBomber and USTorpedoBomber. They use the same model but differerent cfg and eqp files (and potentially skins too). No cloning required. ;)

Dunno if the same logic can apply to ships, but can't see why not.

EDIT: Sorry, I know this is prolly better suited to the SH4 forum, but there doesn't seem to be a corresponding thread there yet. ;)

at the moment and the last few weeks (Hmm months) I had 0 time to build on them. But I can see some time for them on the horizon, but it won't be before july. :(
Modding is quite timeconsuming for me and I need to take a few hours to get into and have some progress at the end, nothing I can do 10mins here and 10 mins there. Im not skilled enough for that. :damn:
I don't know if people will still play SH3 in a few months, but i will :)

for the Ship ID book look very different from the standard format
(both from the bright and dark versions). Are there any more
'standard' versions for these files? Has anyone made such *.sil files
for Rowi's ships? If not, has anyone good tips how one could made

Er - I sort of thought I was finished with the 3d modeling but I was wrong. :oops: After I finished several new ships I was concerned that some of the older ones would stand out as crudely modeled so I redid them. Two or three vessels have been removed from the mod because I no longer liked them but the vast majority are still in. Right now I am going through all the data files and renaming the vessels from their provisional names to the final designations, as well as correcting the technical data (since they were built from the stock Liberty Ship they are all listed as 7100 tons, 441 feet long, etc).

The next big step is the recognition manual images, since again, all vessels have the Liberty Ship Silhouette, except for the Empire Freighter.

I've included screenshots of most of the completed vessels below, with an emphasis on the onse that I haven't posted pics of before.

Medium steam merchant with an unusually high midships island. Although you can't see it in this picture it is one of the vessels that can have text on the hull, which is useful for company names or neutrality markings.

Another revision of the "Victor Ross"/"Geo W. McKnight" class. Compared to the earlier model it has a more detailed superstructure and more rigging. They will be from 11,000 - 12,500 GRT.

Old-fashioned US Freighter. Loosely based on the "Andrea F Luckenbach", "Harry Luckenbach", and similar ships of around 6,600 GRT. The latter ship was torpedoed with 80 crewmembers killed - one of the worst disasters for a US cargo ship during the war. IMO this style is an interesting variation from the split deckhouse you almost always see on older ships.

A small steam freighter in a paint scheme for J Lauritzen. The vertical posts were apparently used for deck cargoes of logs & lumber, and could be disassembled.

No matter how many they had we still wouldnt be flying the German flag :roll:

Anyway to show them in thier proper usage they will need to be scripted
They will show as a generic patrol boat of which there are very few in GW or GWX

A few Br entries for generic patrol boats but IIRC none for Germany or its allies

The next big step is the recognition manual images, since again, all vessels have the Liberty Ship Silhouette, except for the Empire Freighter. .
Please consider releasing the version of stock-like recognition manual images/pages in addition to the dark version. This would make it possible for anyone to adjust the level of brightness/darkness of recognition manual the same way and to the same level as for all other ships. It is difficult to do adjustments to the desired level on already darkened images because different people did that somewhat diferently. I had to give up using some new ships or had to make new recognition images for some I had alternative models for because having a recognition manual with varying images irritates me.

Hi been out of action with a fried PC, got it all back together, Given up on SH4 , too arcadee like SH3 when it first came out.

So its back to SH3 and GWX, now I'm just waiting for the IAMBECOMELIFE merchant mod pack and its full steam ahead

Has any one done anything about the stock small merchants, they always looked out of place, or at least as if they were designed for a different game. Seeing as you tend to encounter these little babies the most, at least early n the war I was wondering if any one had tried to improve their skins

Thanks a lot for all those images. Those are really terrific!! Can't wait. One question though. Since you added platforms for gun emplacements (which look great): but do those platforms also show even when the ship has no guns, like in early war or on neutral ships without guns? I'm just asking because in early war it wasn't felt necessary to even install guns and therefore they most likely didn't install a platform either. So having gun platforms on early war ships would look a bit strange. Thanks

Nothing special. The Perth will be released after the Merchant Fleet Mod - I obtained a detailed set of her plans and wanted to resolve some discrepancies before declaring it "finished".

As for the Merchant Fleet Mod I've been renaming files and working on an improved version of the large refrigerated ship. The renaming process is finished; as a rule of thumb, merchants with a higher tonnage now have a higher numerical designation (for instance, M01B is a small freighter of 2800 tons, M30B is a very large ship.

Next will be the recognition manual images (I will try to provide different versions as you requested) and adding the skins - right now most ships only have one or two paint schemes. As with the Merchant Variety Pack, belligerent nations will start out with colorful peacetime liveries, switching over to camoflage schemes circa 1941-42. Neutral shipping will maintain civilian colors, hull flags, etc until war's end or until their nations become belligerents (SH3 Commander or an equivalent program will be needed).

I am seriously thinking about cloning several of the ships so that paint schemes are always correct based on country; that way you will not encounter, for instance, a British freighter with Swedish hull flags. For those who are concerned about file size I could offer a version of the mod with few paint schemes, no neutrality markings, and no cloned vessels.

The gun platforms are part of the hull object and remain on the ships throughout the war. I planned to use them as searchlight platforms for unarmed ships but this has not worked so far.

The ships as released will generally have between 5=10 civilian skins, and no more than 5 wartime skins. It all depends on the type of ship. The more common types will have more skins. For instance, lots of companies used 5,000 ton freighters, so these ships may have as many as 12 skins for each nationality. Some of the larger tankers, on the other hand, would only have been used by major companies like "Esso" and "Shell", and only require 2 skins.

Maybe a dozen of the models will be cloned in the "Full" version to allow for correct neutrality markings, etc. The goal is for players to try ID'ing ships based on attributes like neutrality flags, funnel markings, hull lettering, and similar features. IMO this is much more immersive than using color-coded map icons. Countries likely to have clones:

-Norway
-US
-Greece
-Sweden
-Denmark

Nations that may be included (depending on filesize constraints):

-Japan
-Ireland
-Spain
-France
-Italy
-Portugal

The "Light" verison of the mod will have no clones and 2-3 skins per ship.

Iamimbecile, I dont want to distract you from your work but I would like to make some ships and I am desperatly looking for some info. I know I could make some T2 with hole in the hull and import it and from there make some trial and error learning. But as I see you and other modders are really a way beyond experimenting and I would like to jump a few steps ahead with the information you have and not reinvent the wheel from square. :D Do you have some good links about the file structere? I searched the subsim forum and the information here is sometimes very outdated, scathered around and contradictive from thread to thread in some occasions. Did you ever thought about writing some newbie tutorial? I know you are a bussy man and please don't be offended by my questions. :roll::roll::roll:

The only problem is if ALL neutral ships had that you would need a clone of each ship for each country
Not very practicle
One area SH4 has it right in that one ship can use a different skin depending on the roster folder its in

Hi to all. I'm a newbie here and have some question about your add-on. I excuse me for my bad English (I came from Italy) and I'm ready to delete this post if this is the wrong place to submit my question.
My question is: How do exactly works the new ship models? I'll try to better explain me: if I installed a new ship, the HMS Suffolk, for example, am I ready to find this vassel in the dynamic campaign, or my only way to intercept this ship is editing a new singleplayer map? And reguards merchant add-ons can I find them in a convoy?
And finally where can I find a Belgian ship? In front of the Benelux coast, I suppose, right?
I hope you can make more clarity reguards this points. Thank you in advance and bye.

No you wont find the Br heavy cruisers unless you add them to the campaign files

New merchants should be ok and you should see them

You will find Belgium ships in convoys also

Minor update: The early war skins for cargo ships have been started. So far a large number of British companies and several Norwegian companies have been included. I'm trying to use distinctive but historically accurate skins. That way, a skilled commander will be able to tell whether a ship is enemy or neutral long before the national flag is visible.

The maximum number of skins is 12 per ship. Although I have only completed skins for Generic Merchant 3 and Generic Merchant 4, several of the skins can be used on different models with few alterations - this speeds up the process. Also, I have a small "library" of rust stains, hull plates, and neutrality flags that I can graft onto each individual skin, instead of slowly doing them all from scratch.

Please don't misunderstand my post as being negative. I really appreciate all the work and minuscule details you're going into to make the game more immersive. However my computer is not exactly new :)
Although I like the idea of many new skins, won't that strech loading times to eternity? When using the GWX skin pack I already have very long loading times with SH3 Commander. I also had a glitch where suddently many ships didn't have skins anymore, so I don't use it anymore. Will there be a version available with "neutral" skins for any nation that don't change throughout the war?

I'm just wondering... Why don't you send a PM to IABL asking for permission to include his work into this wonderful expansion ? :rock:
I think it would be good for all of us to see this merchant pack into GWX 1.04 when it's released, also I think all IABL's ships will have to be scripted in the campaign to appear (so it's going to be a lot of work after the release of GWX 1.04 for one of you GWX team members :hmm: )... So why not asking right now for the permission to take his work into GWX, even if it's going to affect the release date of the 1.04 update :p ?
No doubt it would be an honour for IABL to see his work appreciated by the GWX team, and also it's an AWESOME opportunity (more than 50 new ships :huh: ) you should catch, cause it's going to be the biggest new merchant pack ever released. :up:

I'm just wondering... Why don't you send a PM to IABL asking for permission to include his work into this wonderful expansion ? :rock:
I think it would be good for all of us to see this merchant pack into GWX 1.04 when it's released, also I think all IABL's ships will have to be scripted in the campaign to appear (so it's going to be a lot of work after the release of GWX 1.04 for one of you GWX team members :hmm: )... So why not asking right now for the permission to take his work into GWX, even if it's going to affect the release date of the 1.04 update :p ?
No doubt it would be an honour for IABL to see his work appreciated by the GWX team, and also it's an AWESOME opportunity (more than 50 new ships :huh: ) you should catch, cause it's going to be the biggest new merchant pack ever released. :up:

It's a shame IABL takes so long to have his pack ready. I think it would be a fantastic addition for GWX, but as you can understand it is not possible for the whole update to depend on a single ship pack (no matter how great it is). My only fear with repsect to add the ships later on is with their damage model. If they're modelled in GWX-standards then it should be easy to add them. If not......

I completely understand, I just thought you GWX dev team would take more time cooking the 1.04 update, then it would have been possible to wait for the release of this mod. ;)

We have tried to influence him since this thread started, i.e. almost 2 years ago. It seems he will stick to his original time plan, and that he does not move from that, which everyone must accept. So lets hope he will be finished before we are all dead.

As to inclusion in GWX and scripting, I am sure eventually people will do the necessary scripting etc to bring this mod into GWX. It would have been nicer if IABL had been in the team from the beginning, but these things appear simple only to the outsider. So I guess IABL prefers to work alone - I am very much like that myself.

Well the GWX RND is as random as can be now
When and if Iam ever releases the ship pack its just JSGME in and play
No scripting needed for them to be seen

Admittedly it would ne nice to have them sooner rather than later but thats Iams decision and we must respect that

I think a lot of ppl will stuggle to run the game with the extra 50 ships in
The more you add the longer the loads etc
But those with higher spec machines will see no problem
Indeed those with lower end will be able to add but just expect a lot longer load times

Especially as GWX adds another ** units
