Hi, first of all sorry about my poor english, ill try :D

Im new here, i just got the game (well 1 month ago) and i like it alot, but i got some issues.
Just installed the GW mod, and there are some things i cant understand, maybe you can help me.

I installed the mod and started a mission. All in this mod is great, the harbour had real life, the new music is cool... really a very good job (Seriously, u guys rock!)

I found a new channel so i dont have to go around dinamarc, i tried it, but its a very looong channel and if i try to cross it, it take hours and i cant compress the time for the most part of the time... maybe im doing something wrong, but i have not much time to play and i cant spend it simply travelling

So i started a new mission and ran around dinamarc compressing the time, and i finally got a british merchant. i used the deck gun on it and there i found another issue, the crates are not blowing up as before, it was cool when u shooted the creates and they exploted (only for visual fun) and they are not any more

A little boat appaired and began shooting me, so i went to periscope dept and launched around 4 torpedoes to the merchant (a little coastal merchant), all of them at magnetic mode. One hitted the ship under the funnel, other at the very beginning of the ship, other one at the stern part and finally the number 4 failed.
And the ship just continued its way, and it didnt sunk...

So i used the deck gun again (Which now has a loooong recast time), first on the little war boat wich was severily damaged and had to leave the fight, and then on the merchant. I hitted it under the water line, from bow to stern, around 150 shoots.... and nothing.... waited some hours, it was on fire on some points, it lost its funnel... and nothing....
Is this working as intented?

Other thing, when i try to identufy a ship with the manual, there is not names on it, it only says "contact" in all of the ships. Before GW it said their names, i liked it.... maybe this is the most annoying thing about this mod...
I can understand if u cant see the arrow when ur uboat is sumerged and u in external view, that was not realistic... but the names in the manual? why?

Well i hope u can understand my really poor english, and thx again to all for ur patience.
Anyway GW is a very great mod, is there any other recomended mod wich i can use with GW pls?
Thx! :D

Everything works as intended :)

1. Time compression cant be used when you are close to land/shore, only up to x4. This is becuse you dont want to run it in x1024 close to shore and ran aground.

Iam not sure how far away from other ships, ports, land u have to be to get the x1024 time compression.

2. GW mod is a realism mod that change a lot of things ingame. One major thing it change is the damage model of the ships. It take much longer time to sink a ship and you hae to use more torpedoes. The cannon you have , have much lesser firepower eg you do less damage each shoot whit it and have much longer reload time.

Basicly every "item" that you can blow up on a ship, cargo etc, have its healing point (HP) increased a lot.

Its also real hard to just blow up a ship whit that mod coz it has realistic flooding time. It can take hours before a ship is sinking, if it sinks at all.
A ship consist of different parts and you have to "destroy" or hit severly number of thos parts for the ship to sink. Its just not enough to hit the ship in the stern. And then expect the hole ship to be flooded. Instead it just flood that particulary part you hited. So u have to hit more areas on the ship.

You cant sink a ship whit gun fire by just hitting the hull. You must aim at the waterline. reason for this is the new flooding system. If u get a "hole" in the ship above waterline, the water cant fill that compartment and you cant get flooding.

3. Contact report. That is realism. You have to manually identify the target for what kind of wessel you think it is. The game wont tell you.

Hope this explaination helped you. And that i explained it correct :)

Vikinger.

ps: Iam using GW mode my self but i have changed some files so its not that hard to sink a ship.
I reduced the HP and the flooding time coz after all, its a game :) For me it was frustrating to put 3-4 torpedoes on a small merchant. And about 4-6 torpedoes on a medium/large merchant.

I do enjoy realism but not "extreme" realism. :)

I also changed the gun on the sub so it do little more damage each shoot. Same reason here. Didnt want to put 80 shells on a small merchant and for me that is highley unrealistic. A ship of that size use to go down after 10-30 shells in RL ( i read daily about ships fate during ww2 on this site :
http://www.uboat.net/

And thos ship that have been sunk by shells have gone down after 10-30 shells.

Thx a lot :D

I only dont understand 2 things

1- its ok with the damage model, but i would like to know in which areas are divided the ships and if there are areas more fragiles (and if they exist how i do know where they are so i can aim for them).. im not an expert in ships heh.

Anyway, if i launch 14 torpedoes (Its only an example..) and i know the ship is flooding, but i will take 1 hour to sink, can i leave the area? and travell to other place, or i must wait there untill it sinks so i can get the reward for destroying it?

2- Contact report. That is realism. You have to manually identify the target for what kind of wessel you think it is. The game wont tell you.

Thats ok, i like it, but i mean just that in the manual u can see the stats of all the ships, but no their name. U see the stats, but the name it says "contact", and it should say "t2 transport blah bah" or "Type x destroyer blah blah".
I dont want the game to tell me wich type of ship im viewing trought the periscope, but i would like to just see the names of the ships in the manual...

PD: How did u made those changes?

Generic ship contact names is NOT installed by default - if you installed using the latest GW1.1a installation files, it is a PLAYER selectable installation option called "Generic ship contact names".

Alternatively, if you installed using the earlier 7z files, then you must have manually applied the same optional mod.

So i understand that if u install it u will get the "contact" thing?
I think i installed it..... due to my bad english it seemed to be another thing to me...
Now if i want to see the names of the ships, should i remove it? how? if i reinstal GW without checking that option, will it work?

Thx and sorry about me heh

I'll assume you used the GW1.1a installation files (1 .exe + 4 .bin)? If so, simply reinstall without checking the "Generic ship contact names". Ensure you re-check any other options that you want (but only ONE Atmosphere mod!).

The file i changed to suit my gameplay is a file called zones.cfg.

I saved the original file before i installed the GW mod.

Then i open them up in notepad and compared both files and did some changes.

But in GW mod u will also get some new lines in the file due to added wessels. So when i changed thos parameters i just guessed what value could be good.

Its a huge file and loads of things to change but i did change values for the ships and aircraft ingame.

The file can be found in folder SH3/Data

Its real hard to explain the different damage zones on ships but i suggest you downlad NYGM Shipdamage V2.0 and read the documentation. There is some pictures there that illustrate the different damage zones that also fits for GW mod.

Tukor, as far as time compression near land, try SH3 Commander. It's a tool that lets you change many things in the game simply by clicking a button. When I'm in the Canal I run at time compression x64. It's still prety safe and I get there a lot faster.
