View Full Version : WIP - Empire Celt Tanker New Skin
I was repainting my WIP tanker Empire Celt, and decided to post this skin because I'm bored. Any feedback? (I think the white is a bit too bright).
The ship works fine, but I can't release it because the zones are completely off.

Nice. :yep: It would be neat to see it sailing for Esso, or Eagle Oil. If that's a stock NPTR funnel it will support funnel logos (unlike the T-2 and T-3). Maybe a rusty skin if you want. I've noticed that shipping companies with only cargo/tanker services cared a lot less about appearance (in general) than companies that carried passengers.

Please do fix the UVW mapping on the upper deck before you release it.

Thanks. I would like to fix that UV Mapping, but can't make any progress in that area. :damn:
The funnel is indeed a rescaled version of the NPTR funnel. However, since it has been resized, any logo designed for it may be slightly distorted. However, maybe this could be fixed by distorting the logo slightly on the texture.
I will also have to work on creating rust for skins - I am not sure how to add it.

No, I assume they are all too busy. There is a lot of work currently being done here by the community. :yep:

Actually UVW mapping is very simple, especially if you only need to fix the upper deck. If you can export your model into 3D Studio Max model, then I can fix it for you.
Otherwise, I am sure some modder would gladly help you. The current bad mapping is quite visible when the ship is sinking. :(
Yes, I can export them in .3ds format. :yep: I would very much like to have the UV Mapping fixed, so if you wouldn't mind doing it, that would be appreciated. You will be credited in the readme too, of course.
If you can do it, I will export the hulls in the correct format tonight.

How about changing the bright white to the color of Dowlies hat and turning it into an early 40's cruise ship? :rotfl:

I'm thing about releasing this ship, but I don't like releasing ships with completely inaccurate zoning (although I did release the converted whale factory, which had exactly the same problem).

I like the look of the white one and the dirty one... with multiskinning we can have both.

I also can redo UVMapping if requried for any1. The current ships of your's that are in game I'm sorley tempted to reUVMap anyway.

AG214, send me the 3DS file and your texture to mkubani(--at--)gmail.com I will check it over the weekend. Please on the texture indicate a part of it which one you would like to use for the upper deck (e.g. wooden or metal texture). If there are some other UVW mappings u want me to redo, also indicate those.
I have never done any modelling for SH 3 before, only for IL-2 FB simulator, so if I get stuck I will pass the files to Cdre Gibs. :)
Alright, I'll convert the Empire Celt to .3ds this afternoon and mail it to you. I'll have a look at the texture to decide which part should be the deck.
I exported the Empire Celt hull as a .3ds file, but when I tested it by trying to re-import it, Wings3d crashes. :huh: Is this normal for Wings3d?

If you send the file as its normal DAT file I can export it out and into MAX no probs. Converting it into different formats leads to Texture Map problems the more times its converted as a rule of thumb. This then leads to other problems like what you are now getting.
OK, I'll send you the .dat in a PM. In the meantime, if you want to fix the UV Mapping on the four ships whoch I have already released, it would be greatly appeciated. :yep:
