JIRM 1.1
By JonZ 16/04/2006
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fixes:
- Adapted JIRM for German texts manual
- Adapted JIRM for Hi-Res settups.
JonZ Improved Recognition Manual v1.0
03/04/06
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Despite of the excelent interface graphics in Silent Hunter 3, I felt that the Recognition Manual
was very rushed and lacking of quality.
I've decided, with my art skills, to revamp and even make bigger the recognition manual.
Changes:
-----------
- Bigger Recognition Manual, contains both Profile and Angle views on one page. Usefull when Interface is
Disabled (Keypad ".") and positions can be swapped with the toggle button when Interface is enabled.
- Bigger arrows buttons on cover and closer to the title. That way you will still focus on the countries titles and
on the arrows at the same time without accidentaly click on the 'open' zones.
- Nationalities navy flags added on the titles for a faster recognition browsing.
- Datas infos of ships like Draft, Lenght, Mast, Beam, Tonnage info are now on top of the page,
the most important infos such as Tonnage and Draft are kept on the top right corner.
- Scale bar have now scale numbers associated with the ship dimension.
- Improved High Res Texture of the manual in general with assorted color shemes.
- No silhouette bitmaps file required, they use the same files supplied with SH3!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Installation:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WARNING, it is imperative that you install the Improved Recognition Manual with the associated mod currently installed in your SH3 installation.
If you have a modified menu file (data/menu/menu_1024_768.ini), it is necessary to install manually or you risk to loose
features in your current modding installation or it could results error messages and CTD as well.

- Run JSGME and Install the Mod.
- Enjoy :)
Manual Installation (make sure to backup the Menu folder in ..sh3/data/ folder):
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Go into the folder associated with your current Mod installation (Stock Sh3, IuB 1.03, NYGM TW 1.03 or GreyWolves)
- Copy the data folder and paste it in your SH3 Game Directory to overwrite it (../SilentHunter3/). Click Yes to All on Prompt.
Optionnal Installation :
------------------------
You can remove the Swastikas by installing the additionnal mod Swastika Remover in the MODS folder
you can manually install it by copying the data folder and overwrite the game data folder.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

INSTALLATION OF THE NEW MANUAL IN THE PERISCOPES/UZO SCREENS
You will now apply changes to tree sections; the Attack Periscope, the Observation Periscope and the UZO.
Step 3 - Installing the new Manual in the Attack Periscope screen:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
look for the [G26 i129] section, or look for the 'Name=Rec manual' in the [G26 iXX] section. (use the search tool)
Inside this segment, there should be this portion of codes:
Pos=0,356,58,220
Color=0xFFFFFFFF
Materials=4
Display=0;No stretch
Mat 0=data/menu/gui/RecManual/RecManBack.tga
Crop 0=0,0,0.90625,0.859375
Mat 1=data/menu/gui/RecManual/RecManBack.tga
Crop 1=0,0,0.90625,0.859375
Mat 2=data/menu/gui/RecManual/RecManBack.tga
Crop 2=0,0,0.90625,0.859375
Mat 3=data/menu/gui/RecManual/RecManBack.tga

MatFlags=0x0
TexFmt=0x2
StatesColors=0xB0B0B0FF, 0xFF, 0xFFFFFFFF, 0xFFFFFFFF
ToolTipText=2201
Replace these codes by this:
Pos=0,356,63,356
Color=0xFFFFFFFF
Materials=4
Display=4;No stretch
;Mat 0=data/menu/gui/RecManual/RecManual.tga; remove the first semicolons to remove the Swastika

This will make the new manual appear in the Attack Periscope screen.
Step 4 - Install Rec. Manual in the Obs. Periscope.
---------------------------------------------------
- Look for [G28 i113] section, or look for the next 'Name=Rec manual' in the [G28 iXX] section.
- Copy and paste the same exact portion as you did for the Attack Periscope section.
This will make the new manual appear in the Observation Periscope screen.
Step 5 - Install Rec. Manual in the UZO screen
----------------------------------------------
- Look for [G2B i129] section, or look for the next 'Name=Rec manual' in the [G2B iXX] section.
- Copy and paste the same exact portion as you did for the Attack and Observation Periscope sections.
This will make the new manual appear appear in the UZO screen.
Step 6 - Choose your skin
-------------------------
Two methods exist:
First method via JSGME:
- Go into Skins folder
- Select all folders (Classic, Default, Red, Brown, Green Army, Marine, Olive,...)
- Paste it in the MODS folder of your JSGME installation
- If you have a modded Low Contrast Recognition Manual, proceed to step 7
- Run JSGME and Install the skin of your choice.
Second method manual installation
- Go into Skins folder
- Go into one of the skins of your choice by going into it folder
- Copy the data folder
- Paste the data folder over the data folder of your Sh3 Game directory. Press Yes to All on prompt.

Step 7 - Low Contrast Installation (optionnal)
----------------------------------------------
Additionnal adjustments is required if you use a low contrasted manual via another mod
Always in menu_1024_768.ini, locate this section you pasted earlier:
[G25 I44]
Name=Bkgr
Type=1031;Stat bmp array
ItemID=0x25060001
ParentID=0x25060000
Pos=0,0,576,356
Materials=1
Display=0;Linear
Mat 0=data/menu/gui/recmanual/RecManual.tga
;Crop 0=0.642578125,0,0.28125,0.6953125; Low Contrast Pages
Crop 0=0.3544921875,0,0.28125,0.6953125; High Contrast Pages
MatFlags=0x1
TexFmt=0x9
Drag=false
BmpState=1
NeedFocus=true
SelOne=true
IdGroup=0
StatesColors=0xFFFFFFFF, 0xFFFFFFFF, 0xFFFFFFFF, 0xFFFFFFFF
To activate the Low Contrasted page layout, remove the first semicolon on this line:
;Crop 0=0.642578125,0,0.28125,0.6953125; Low Contrast Pages
then delete this line (or place a semicolon before Crop command)
Crop 0=0.3544921875,0,0.28125,0.6953125; High Contrast Pages
You should have now have manually installed the JIRM mod.
Read the other documents for instructions on how to remove the Swastika from the manual
and ingame flags and how to add changing years on book with SH3 Commander!
Enjoy!

WOW :up:
Looks like it will be a great addition, JonZ :up: . I wanted to ask :hmm: , will I be able to just activate via the JSGME, since the only mods that I am using is your Improved Uboat 1.03 w/ some of it's options or will I have to do any kind of manual installs?
Again, it looks great :rock: . Thank you ;)

lookin' very nice indeed :yep:
only mod i'm running at the moment is Harbour_Traffic_1.47 so should i do the manual installation one?:hmm:
Brilliant JOnz As Everything you do bro! :up:
Also i've got just an observation:
I fully respect your Wishes in respect of protecting your artwork and all, but:
"- Not for use for screens such as intros, splash screens, wallpaper or other form of artworks !"
What can possibly be so rong or Bad from someone using A screenee of your Recon Man. or to include in a Intro for example or similar
stuff? :-?
Sorry just think (Thought i do respect you decisions) it's a bit
Extrem... :rock: :up:
Question, the complete pack brings all versions yes??? :hmm:

Give it a try. Download a skin pack or complete set and just follow the 7 steps. It can be done within 5 minutes.
Just know how to use search with the notepad (CTRL+F)
Select the large portion area (SHIFT+PAGE UP or PAGE DOWN or arrow keys)
Copy and Paste (CTRL+C copy, CTRL+V paste)
Question, the complete pack brings all versions yes??? :hmm:
No. They are a complete "Development kit"
They contains All the skins set with all the optionnal installations.
Optionnal Installations are:
Swastika remover kit for all skins versions
SH3 Commander version for all skin versions
Silhouettes corrections files for the low contrasted pages
and templates for Photoshop CS users for editing Nationnalities and flags.

Jonz,
I am using GW plus Tonnage with Rubini's unified campaign mod.
Which download do I use and how do I install it, since these mods use the menu 1069_768 file?
I have a seperate install of your IUB 1.03 and am currently trying to get the unified compaign vanilla mod of Rubini to work with it due to a problem with the menu 1054_768 file. If I get this fixed, how do I install your manual?

Thanks a lot, JonZ! I love this manual! :up:
There is however a slight layout problem in german text which makes the data of ships unreadable. Please check this screen:
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/9293/jirmlayoutprob5cd.th.jpg (http://img407.imageshack.us/my.php?image=jirmlayoutprob5cd.jpg)
Can you tell me how to correct this manually, so that I can do it myself?
I installed mine manually, but now I'm getting an error. I'm not sure what, but has something to do with a page not being implemented. The game freezes during startup and crashes. :oops: What have I done wrong?
EDIT: Never mind, got it working. :roll:

AWOOOOOO!!!
I get do download it tomorrow...cain't hardly wait!
I've one question - if I use SH3 Commander with included Commander's skin pack with Grey Wolves, should I install only Grey Wolves version of JIRM (5MB) or JIRM Manual Installation and Complete Kit (200MB)?

There's should be no problem to use the 5Mb version.
I am working on a German-English Friendly versions guys.
I displaced the Mast Text to the center and moved the Speed next to the Draft Value.
It probably goes to JIRM 1.1

@ ADukes
Thanks, you brought me on the right track! I tweaked your settings a little and now the text&data fits very good inside the german manual.
These are the new blocks for the Menu_1024_768.ini which should replace JonZ' original ones: (only POS values were changed)

Great Work!
Hi Jonz...
Regarding this option:
Bigger Recognition Manual, contains both Profile and Angle views on one page. Usefull when Interface is
Disabled (Keypad ".") and positions can be swapped with the toggle button when Interface is enabled.
I can't disable the interface not even tempor. I mean it does'nt work that way for me, how can i use that "." keypad option???

Why don't you use Simfree mod? it all about lowering the taskbar with bigger dials?
IHMO that would be rather much usefull if you make a version of Simfree combined with all the available mods like I did for GW and TW

They are posted and they don't alter the IDs. There is something you missed out. Missing IDs either means you skiped a sequence or you sticked two sequences togheter. There's something wrong you did.
Check the instructions again...
Or try to note which IDs missing and post it.

Hey JonZ,
I've got a problem with the IuB version of JIRM.
I have already done the following:
SH3 Cmdr rolled back, all mods removed correctly (via JSGME). Mods now reinstalled (via JSGME) in this order IuB 1.03, Iub 1.03 1.1 Patch and 16km fix. Loaded (w/o SH3 Cmdr) and all works fine. Now I install (again through JSGME) JIRM - IuB 1.03, load again w/o SH3Cmdr and I get this:
http://www.hitchcockmodels.com/Subs/JIRM_IuB103c.jpg
Which look right, but when I open the RM I get this:
http://www.hitchcockmodels.com/Subs/JIRM_IuB103a.jpg
http://www.hitchcockmodels.com/Subs/JIRM_IuB103b.jpg
Any ideas?
Thanks for a great new mod!

JonZ,
I'm not seeing any difference. The "culprit" I found earlier was that the menu_1024_768.ini contain references to two files which are not included:
recmancover2.tga and RecManBkgr2.tga.
Hope this helps!

The entries in the menu.ini and both tgas are not part of Jon's mod.
So you did something wrong.

Aduke, you are correct. Hick had a problem with a IuB version which was wrong and I reuploaded right after he noticed it. There's should be no more problem for IuB users now.
I'll give it a fresh start.
Hitch
JonZ,
Could you check your latest JIRM IuB version's "menu_1024_768.ini"
It appears to have two full sets of G25 entires. The first set contains the RecManCover2.tga and RecManBkgr2.tga entries, and the next appears normal. Could this be the problem?

Yes, that's what I've tried to explain. When you first alerted about the problem, I investigated the IuB pack and found it wasn't the good ini version. So I immediately replaced by the correct one.
It now should be one file RecManual.tga with new coordinates.
Beside you guys can Jonz tell me if it is because of me beeing using the portuguese language keybard...??? :up:

I understand that. Just to be SURE just I re-dloaded and installed the UPDATED file and the "menu_1024_768.ini" still contains two sets of the G25 entries and the problem still exists. This is also on a fresh SH3 install (what the heck :D )

Hi JonZ
Awesome mod! And it works perfectly to me but...just a question:
I've got a problem with the rig for red look version of the manual.
With the closed book view it's all right with the back manual cover "reddish" as below...
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/4307/sh3img942006233102819iy.jpg
but with the book open ,the front cover is the "daylight's " ones and not reddish as it should be (below you can see it too).
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/1593/sh3img942006233177180je.jpg
Where's the matter? Is it something need to fix or i made some kind of error in the ini_file editing?
Thanks a lot for all and, again, for the stunning improvement you gave us!!
It the way the game is made I guess. The book overlap the skin over the periscope night redmask. I guess there's nothing to be done with it. The skin you choosed made that effect more apparent I guess,
Thanks for the answer! :up:
Not a big problem to live on...the manual quality override it!
EDIT: p.s. choosing the red cover the problem is greatly minimized! :up:
JonZ,
Umm, not to be the bearer of bad tidings YET AGAIN, but I think there might be something wrong with the "JIRM Manual Installation and Complete Kit.7z" at u-boot.realsimulation.com. It extracts but goes to a blank DOS window upon launcing the .exe file and then quits.
I HOPE for once this is my fault :D

You may try this code. I tested on Both English and German, it work fine and should fix the problems.
I changed the paragraph alignment codes on some of these lines (TextFlags command).

I don't know what is wrong with my cut and paste method but the code above is not the good one I think. Tonnage title is suppossed to be right aligned which it seems to be not. It look like an earlier version. Can you test it at normal resolution?
I can't help for now because I'm at work. I'll check into that tonight. Meanwhile you can perhaps paste the other part of codes suggested by the others before my code post.

You have to copy the date folder and overwrite the date folder of your SH3 commander folder.

Got it that it comes in the manual install complete kit folder! :up:
Did you use the latest SH 3 commander?
Cause i just installed that one...
Ok it works with SH3 Commander, changed the year and changed the cover... :up:
Until that everything perfect, now there is this small detaill that i'm sure it's of easy solution...

I add diferent color manual for each year...Works perfect.. :up:

In this one is that where is the problem, as you can see the color didn't change as in the cover...
What do i have do to, or where are those part of the manual
so that i can add it manually... :up: :rock:
I can't see the problem... The colors and the years matches on both screens
what do you mean?
He would like to remove the redmask for the closed book, so it should have the same black color as the open book.
I can't see the problem... The colors and the years matches on both screens
what do you mean?
I think the problem is that the red night lighting makes the manual spine look brown, see what it looks like at day time...
layout problem in german text is still there, i play with hi-res mod, maybe is that the problem?
I just rechecked the code and I viewed with the German de_menu.txt
It shows perfectly aligned with the numbers. I can't however check it for the High Res versions. Sorry.
Check again the codes, especially coordinates (Pos) and the alignments (TextFlags). If I overlap the english with the German picture of yours, it looks to me the Alignments of, ie Tonnage, is still Left justified (TextFlags=0x4) instead of Right justified (TextFlags=0x6)

I've finally got everything installed, IUB 1.03, IUB 1.03 patch and the Improved Recognition manual from the original link for the IUB 1.03 install :up: . However, after starting a patrol, I found that I too was missing clouds when it was raining. I found, and I wish I had found it before having to pay for the primium service of your original link site (Rapidshare) - coz it was only downloading about 12Kb (max) of your file in the free option mode :damn: , that there was an install posted in Uboat.Realsimulation site :oops: . My question is this :hmm: : Since I am only using the Improved Uboat 1.03 mods,
1) Can I use this mod download;
2) Which parts;
3) Is the fix for the missing clouds included in this download;
4) Should I be in-port prior to installing.
Your help is greatly appreciated ;)
PS: Just read your thread on the fact that the 'Uboat.Realsimulation' download version of your 'Improved Recognition Manual' is corrupted :huh: , it is stated as only 82.8 Mb on the site :damn: :damn: :damn: , as of a few minutes ago . Any idea on when it will be corrected?

1) can't make out what you mean, if you want to use JIRM with IuB?
2) ?? Download the IuB version ?
3) no, but you can download this temporary fix here (http://files.filefront.com/IuB_103_16Km_fixzip/;4937559;;/fileinfo.html)
4) Yes for the fix, No for the JIRM.
I currently reuploading the 200Mb Complete Kit. I hope it will replace the corrupted file soon.
Folks oughta be using:
HashTab (http://beeblebrox.org/hashtab/)
Using simple stuff like md5 checksum lotsa
corruption could be avoided.
Not to mention Time Saved (tm)
Often times one is looking into files if somethins iffy
but it could be a corrupted download/upload.
Saves lotsa hassle.
Here's how it works:
One makes a file available somewhere and posts the md5 checksum also
so rest of the folks can compare. This is really nothing new
and im surprised folks are not using it allready here,
given the amount of downloading/uploading.
:D
(ps. excellent mod btw, muchos thanxos)

This mod looks really great but when I go to eneble it, JSGME says that enabling it may have 'adverse effects on this game'. I downloaded the second one for GW. What I want to know is that if say I enable it through JSGME and at a later date want to remove it, should I disable GW and then JIRM or JIRM and then GW? When I go into JSGME I see this:
mods enabled:
GW
JIRM
I've looked at the files it alters and it doesn't look like a biggy but wanted to know if anyone has any problems, besides the ones listes in the above posts.
I can't see the problem... The colors and the years matches on both screens

The color matchs????? :o
I can't believe that you don't see the diference, betwin the first Army green and thr brown one after... :doh:

Thanks for the response. On the questions, I was just wondering if the file located on Uboat.Realsimulations was compatable with IUB (ie: was there an IUB version included) which in-turn brought on the second question. On the temporary fix for the lack of clouds, when I hit a download button to any of the listed servers on that web page, it would only download 0(zero)Kb and say the download is completed when there was nothing downloaded (numerous attempts were made :damn: ). I haven't tried the 'Fast' server because you have to be a paying member for that server in order to use it, I don't usually download from anywhere other than 'SubSims' or 'Uboat.Realsimulations', and like they say, "...why pay for something when you could get the same thing somewhere else for free" (Not being cheap, just 'prudent' :lol: ). Would there be another way to get the fix?
Thank you :up:

He would like to remove the redmask for the closed book, so it should have the same black color as the open book.
IT looks to me as though the red mask is causing the problem, but it is only affecting the retracted spine of the book is this a layering issue? and can the layer of the spine be changed to be above the mask?

JIRM causes these two discrepancies:
1. The default position of the stopwatch is over the sheets of paper, default GW had everything spaced out(totally small issue but we're all about details)
http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/1582/59ub.jpg
2. The weather icon on the watch officer's menu is invisible but still useable
http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/4447/48pj.jpg
This is not my mod causing this but the Jcwolf mod. JIRM don't touch any of these areas.
I'm having an issue with my recmanual. After installing this mod for several countries I have 2 flags on the rec manual cover. I'v tried deleting any covcountryname files in the folder tex and under the gui in both the GW folders and default data folders but they still persist.
Is it supposed to be this way or know how to only have 1 flag on the cover?

One of the flags is "military," and one is "civilian."

You aren't suppose for anything anyway on a free comunity mod.
There's a version for IuB on u-Boot.realsimulation.com now available.
As for the cloud problem, I would suggest to find out your original IuB package you downloaded (not the patch).
Then Go to this folder -> data/env/
Copy all the content, paste it on the same folder of your SH3 directory to overwrite them all.
Hope it helps.

Downloaded the complete kit from Realsimulation.com. Terrapin was right: when I unzipped the 80MB file it opened as 199MB, no problems there. I did a manual install. Instructions were easy (especially if you've alread been through the process with Sales' Simfeeling 6-Dials mod. I have a different cover and color for each year, and it seems to work perfectly.
Thanks, JonZ, for another great addition to the SHIII universe.

Thanks.
The issue with the corrupted file at u-boot was largely because of the self-extractor was not working for me and some other users (A short second DOS popup appear and that's all). But opening the self extractor with 7z program, People should be able to retrieve the files.
If I have time one day, I will just pack it to a 7z instead of compressing it two times with two different methods. This will lighten the difficulty of some non-experienced users.

I managed to get the GW version tweaked manually for my install (I had already modded the Menu_1024 file for a few things) and it seems to be working great - I downloaded first the small GW version and installed it, then found the manual install and skin set and downloaded that, but while I saw lots of folders with different colors, I didn't see anything about different dates and the readme referred to some other document (that I couldn't find) to explain how to put the things in SH3 Commander so the books would change with the years, so now I'm still using the 1939 version even though it's 1941.
What am I missing about how to get SH3 Commander to change books by years?
Also, since it is apparently possible to have a different-looking book each year, is it possible for the actual content of the book (not just the cover/date) to be different for each year? e.g., could the liberty and victory ships' pages be removed from the early years' books and only show up in the book for the year they actually entered service (and later books, of course)?? It's always kinda bugged me to see ships in my recog manual in 1939-40 that didn't exist until several years later.
Great work so far, and the German language fixes do seem to work - thanks for another great contribution :rock:
Hello - I looked through this thread but did not see exactly my question.
I am using these: SH3 + patch 1.4b + GW1.0 + NYGM1.03 + Extended Unified Campaign
Which of these versions of the JonZ Rec Manual do I want to download?
Thank you.

Got it - and it worked great - using the 1941 edition now - very cool. And, your new book saved the life of a lowly kleine frachter tonight :)
I was set up for a perfect shot on a small freighter, from about 500m, but I could not for the life of me figure out what country's flag she was flying - it was one I had never seen before, and it was not on the draggable flag sheet that I got with the Navimap mod (or the GW version of it - not sure where it came from).
At the last minute, I remembered that you had put flags on the outside of your new recog manual, so I clicked through all the countries until I spotted it - Portugal! (Cool looking flag, BTW).
A quick look at the map screen confirmed that Portugal was neutral, so I aborted the attack just seconds before she reached my preset firing position. Phew - I didn't want to be responsible for an international incident that could bring Portugal into the war on the side of the Allies and maybe give the British some new airbases to cover the convoys coming up around Spain from Gibralter.
Thanks for another great mod JonZ - now, if you can just figure out how to make each year's book have different contents as well as a different cover, so we don't have to see Liberty and Victory ships in 1939 and '40, it will be perfect :rock:

Quick question, :hmm: what entries do I change to make the whole page low contrast? The entries noted did a great job of centering everything but I still have the 'white' borders (about 1/2 inch) around the images of the page.
Thank you :rock:

Have you tried manual installation?
I've just reinstalled Windows now and I couldn't test the GW+IO rightfully with the Tonnage UC mod. I assumed it worked :/
can you post a screenshot?
Hi res you are talking right?
Yes, (at least I hope so :roll: ). Anyway, this is how my manual looks like (I am only using the Improved Uboat Mods - 1.03)...
http://server2.uploadit.org/files/dbf574-__SH3Img_20_4_2006_20.12.59_906.jpg
So, is there a way to make the whole page low contrast?

I really like it, except for one thing: a lot of the newer ships being done aren't included. It seems like anyone doing new ship mods is either unaware or not interested in the new manual.
Is there any way to have updates so we can have the newest ships in the new manual?
