I am very much noob here so forgive me perhaps this rather basic question. I notice that each SH3 model has shade and reflection representative of the main model. Moreover the main model is much more detailed and of course has higher polygon count than that of shade and reflection counterpart. Is there any particual procedure those two need to be made according to? Or they just lower textured LODs of the main model? Thank you for help.

Anyone kindly try to reply to my question please. Are the shade and reflection models any special than just lower LODs of the main model?

The reflection model is used for water reflections of the vessel in question and the SHD part may not be even in a proper use in SH3. They are not anything special and can be low LOD or can be omitted altogether. The 3D model can work without them.

Thank you for this confirmation. I have met similar situation in other game where models were only for shade (if envoked) or reflection ( again if that option was on).

I wanted to confirm that and also make sure that the game will function if those lower models are not present .I guess the answer is YES but you wont see the shadow or reflection.

But this bring me to other issue which is LOD (level of detail). Does this mean that the game uses just 1, in most cases, very high polycount model? Does this mean that even at the distance the game diplays the model at full detail and what about mip maps ? Are there any here?
