Is there a mod or patch to add names to front/back of ships, and add said names to the patrol log.. :hulk:

The texturing of ships is designed in such a way that textures inconveniently repeat, making it pretty much impossible to add any text to any ships. If you look at the MVP from Iambecomelife though, he has put company logos on a couple of funnels without a problem.

And also, there really isn't a way to give specific names to ships, except in SH3 Commander. Even then, I believe the names are random. But they will appear in the patrol log.

Perhaps someone can attach emblem nodes to ships, similar to the emblem nodes on u-boats?

I can't do it, but this could be quite possible... :hmm:

Then later on, a program like SH3 Commander can randomize some name/number templates and place them onto ships. Of course it would be all random... but yeah...

Not quite true that this must all be random .If u look at the *.cfg of most of the warships they have names of the class members and entry+exit dates in them. so u ccould take those and create new entrys for the other ship classes as for the liberties or victories.

Interestingly, I found out that ships based on the NKGN can have names on their bows. They will be reversed on one side of the hull, but that's the only problem. Unfortunately, I also found out that cloned ships can only have one paint scheme. In other words, if I want 10 different ships I'll need to create 10 clones of a model, instead of one model with 10 tga files. I really hope someone can help me out with this. :damn:

EDIT: I was wrong; the cloned ships are actually fine skin-wise.

Does this mean that the u-boat models can't have numbers on them either ?
I.e., U-xx, etc. ?

John, there is a way around the Uboat number being on the boat. Just add it to a Sub emblem using Photoshp. One was done for me with the As der Spaten emblem, for U-109 in the campaign I just lost in SHIII. Yep complete reinstall and 26 patrols down the drain.

Here's it is.

Ok, thanks. I'm still trying to get an emblem to appear; found the "edit end null" info, but still no luck.

Wow, what happened to your campaign that needed a re-install ?

I just wanted to post a followup: I was wrong, and the game DOES in fact support multiple skin cloned vessels. Don't let my earlier comment deter you from experimenting.

Names aren't feasible because of diskspace issues, conflicts with the SH3 commander-assigned names, etc.

However, I also found out that the NKGN hullshape can also support the giant flags you'd see along the sides of neutral vessels. It's not perfectly accurate, but you only see them repeat three or four times. Many ships had two hull-painted flags so I guess this isn't too bad. Pack3d means it takes seconds and not days to clone merchant ships, so nationality-specific paint schemes are possible. Let's just say that a few months from now you guys will have NO EXCUSE for sinking neutral ships. :rotfl:

An example from armed-guard.com...

What if u just have half of the flag on every side of main hull part of the tga so it maybe doesnt repeat more than two times ??

One ship for each nation? Yikes! ;)

That is serious diskspace...

That might work if the flag is symmetrical. I think it would cause problems with American, Norwegian, and Swedish flags.
