View Full Version : FIX for Broken Mediterranean Sea V2

If you pay attention, SH3 does not swap seawater textures even if you cross from the Atlantic to the Med, Arctic to Atlantic, and vice versa. This is a broken feature in SH3. The same also applies to starting a campaign in the Med (La Spezia, Toulon). SH3 always applies the Atlantic seawater in the campaign mode, NO MATTER where you are located.

Using SH3Cmdr, I have come up with a solution for this. If you are currently sailing out of the 29th flotilla (based in the Med), my solution involves using SH3Cmdr to change the Atlantic seawater textures to the Med seawater.

My fix comes with a very minor problem.....

However, I must stress that it is a VERY MINOR problem, indeed. If you begin in the Med and sail out into the Atlantic, you will still see Med seawater, and vice versa. Which is no big deal, since you should NEVER leave the Mediterranean if you are in the 29th flotilla... And similarly, you should NEVER enter the Mediterranean if you are based in the Atlantic.

The fix is compatible with all major mods, including RUb, IUB, and Atmosphere mod.

DOWNLOAD the new FIX V2 at terrapin's site, in the mods section:
http://www.u-boot.realsimulation.com/

Since the fix has to do with SH3Cmdr and not actually SH3, you can't use JSGME to install it. NO BIG DEAL, just follow the simple install instructions.

Here are some beautiful screens of the Med. Hopefully, this will entice everyone to try a campaign with the 29th flotilla. :D

Great idea. Simple but effective. :up:

Can Beery and I have your permission to consider including it standard with the next SH3Cmdr?

No. The mediterranean waters are only activated if you play as part of the 29th flotilla.

Great marhkimov,

Do you will do this for Artic sea too?

Rubini.

So far, I haven't seen much reason to implement the arctic waters. I don't even know why they are in the game... How often did u-boats travel to the north pole?

It might be arctic waters in the Black Sea, but other than that, where else could we use it?

BTW - I think it is possible to add more sea types to the three already current seas... Sooo, is the Red Sea really red? LOL :D

You better throw out that atlas you are using... arctic waters is above the polar cicle, not in the black sea.... :88)

And since there were 2 flottilas that aimed at the Murmansk convoys quite a bit in real life, it might not be a bad idea to implement this genial fix there too. :)

Oops, you're right... The atlas in my head is broken... :roll:

I don't know of any other way to implement the Arctic waters...

great Screenshots nice one---here's a possible work round for using the MED and any really sea/sky colours with-out having to start from any given flottilla--

open the ENV.cfg in data/env

and edit the options to use you desired sky/sea colours dat file--

like this

[EnvColors]
SeaType00=EnvColors_Arct.dat
SeaType80=EnvColors_Arct.dat
SeaType150=EnvColors_Arct.dat

[SkyColors]
SeaType00=SkyColors_Med.dat
SeaType80=SkyColors_Med.dat
SeaType150=SkyColors_Med.dat

this could be altered to suit your needs as and when--

i prefer the artic sea colors --dank and grey-- but i like to see those mediterrean sun sets as per the screenies so this is what i use--

You can also change it in the missions too by altering this line:

SeaType=0

Change it to 1 or 2 or use CB's method above which also works very well, notice the line in the ENV file what CB posted, try changing that.

[Environment]
SeaTypeImageDimX=4320
SeaTypeImageDimY=2160
LandIDX=255
DefaultSeaType=0 ***This line
SeaTypesNo=1

Oh yeah, CB.. and Col7777, that's what I do for single missions.

Does the same thing also work for campaigns? If it works, I guess we should tell Jscones about this. It should be easy for SH3 Commander to fix.

Awesome, thanks! I'm happy that a person from La Spezia thinks the colors are correct. :up:

I should release it later... Too tired right now...

I don't know why, but I really like the Med, even though I know nothing about it and have never been there. Anyways, Ciao!

I'm not sure, but I think the default WinRar can unzip it.

You can try googling for it. Search for winrar or 7z

I hear that you need administrative access to use SH3 Commander, but I'm not entirely sure.

Check the FAQ thread: http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=45430
