View Full Version : Spoilt for choice with Mods, but still no Life Boat mod ?

I am one happy player with the current mods on the board here.

One that does spring to mind and still has not materialised is the ability to see floating life boats that would add for me personally those final realistic touches to what is and can be a very open sea.

Thanks to the support of EVERY modder here on the boards perhaps Rubini out there could add these into his mod like he has done with the Dolphins ...

Ok it may be superficial glitter on what is otherwise a phenomenal game now with the mods that are available, still I do recall it did spur up interest once in another post as it does for me to have them in the game.

I second this as it would be great to come accross a boat full of suvivors from previous attacks that are waiting to be rescued.

I also wonder if the Dolphins could ever be duplicated like ships so we one day could maybe also have sword fish etc or even Shark fins :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: .

Now imagine using the dolphin model to make swimmers by coast lines and having them desructible (Gouldjg goes into sick mode)

It would be cool if you could receive renown for pulling up to a life bost and giving them food. Or even threatening a nutral ship so that they pick up the survivors. Now thats true role playing.

But a cool idea.

I brought up the idea about sharks back when the dolphins mod was being discussed. I think it went over like a cement balloon.

The problem with the dolphins is that they don't follow waypoints, don't have AI and don't have that "delete on last waypoints" feature. These lack of good properties just limit their use on the Campaign files. As for sharks or even whales, it's possible to modify the dolphins 3D structure and all will be ok but with the same limitations. :hmm:

It is definitely not okay for whales because they will have dolphin's movements which do not look appropriate for whales.

Yes, it's really true. But perhaps you can do some tweaks on the frequency and amplitude of the dolphins movements if one day somebody here wants the award prettily offered by gouldjg! :D

I also suspect that reference to dolphins is hard-coded and as soon as the files are renamed nothing will work appropriately but I have not tested that. I have not been able to find any section in the files where one could tweak frequency and amplitude of movements, that's why I think it is hard-coded.

I was thinking about this the other day. Would it be possible to modify a ship to the appropriate shape and dimensions of marine life (shark or whale), give it a "neutral" allegiance, and delete the node for smoke?

I guess that is possible. The problem will be the correct whale or shark movement. :hmm:

I remember that some time ago you say something about to put a sunk ship in shallow waters on harbours for example. Do you have some news on this stuff?. I think that this will be a great deal for HT mod.
