View Full Version : Brilliant Idea. Are Minelaying missions possible?

I was struck by this thought; we can't create all new submarines, but we can probably replace existing submarines....and mine-laying was a big component of the U-Boat War.... So; I wonder if it would be possible to create a Naval mine "torpedo" that we could fire on minelaying missions; tonnage sunk from your mines would be calculated externally by SH3 Commander; many VIIs and IXs were turned into impromptu minelayers by simply placing mines aboard instead of torpedoes.

Thinking ahead even further, I'm wondering if we could create a Type VIID minelayer by simply extending the stock VIIC model in the game; and placing the maximum of four aft torpedo tubes that SH3 allows in a vertical position to simulate the five vertical minelaying tubes on the VIID, and you would launch your naval mines deep inside enemy harbors.

Great Idea  That could be a nice opportunity for those who like to sneak in to harbours and shallow water.
Also put another level of immersion to the game

Good idea.
As I recall something similiar to this was done in SHII.

I've managed to stretch a Type VIIC in Wings-3D...; I think it's possible.

I have also wondered about the possibility of performing such missions.

I wonder if this is theoretically possible within the confines of moddable game files.
