A french submariner who make a long visit of a Kilo recently told me that the Kilo have a retractable auxillary propulsion unit under the torpedo tubes and a pumpjet near the stern so it can make it a 360° turn almost in place at slow speed.
I didn't know if it just for manouevring near port or if it can be use in combat but it could be a 'good' surpise for an ennemy sub behind him.

Yeah, I read that somewhere also. Would be cool if implemented in DW!
That is why Kilo should be next to impossible to detect passively..especially in litoral regions. :know:

This is really interesting, I'm assuming its an electric motor that drives it? By slow speed I'm guessing that we're talking like 2+ minutes for a complete 360 degree turn in calm seas?
Sounds somewhat similar to what is mounted on cruise ships for docking procedures, allows very co-ordinated movement.

I think the Seawolf has it also-for docking, SEAL/litorial action etc. But would suspect very noisey. Much like DWs OHP I would think. Leads me to thinking-have any of the multiplayers tried to see how loud the OHP is when using its APUs in DW?
Must make a racket I would think. :hmm:

If it's a real thing (I don't doubt on you my friend Galileo ... I'm always suspicious, as you know ...), I suspect you are right Pigfish.
I hardly conceive APU are used in a stealth configuration IMHO.

For Perry APU base noise was same as primary propulsion, but raised very quickly with speed to reach +20 at max. So both in stock DW and in the mod APU is effectively more noisy than primary propulsion.
