When you get report of a convoy will AI boats appear sometimes? Do the AI boats follow random patrol routes? Thanks for the cool mod.

To let them cruising, you have to place them with the mission editor in the campaign_scr.mis and/or campaign_rnd.mis.

It is a static crew on the conning tower which is quite good solution for the harbor traffic, in particular. For the combat situation, one would also want to have crew for the deck and AA guns.

What about using the "20mmGBDouble" or "20mmGBSingle" guns with crew already included? For the deck gun, maybe the 3InchSingle, but - hmmm - with that gun, they would also fire at aircraft :roll:

As anything else, they would need to be scripted in RND or SCR layers for that.

Do the AI boats follow random patrol routes?

As any AI ship, they will follow defined waypoints. There seems to be no travelling degree of freedom for AI ships in SH3 except when DDs are hunting a sub.

Yes, I thought about it but did not have time to test that yet. Unfortunately, there are no other guns available in SH3 which look like 88mm deck gun of U-boats.

this could be nice because could simulate wolfpacks,

doing a radio repport and after that appears some subs attaking the convoy...

i don´t know if this could be done without the sdk pack

Nobody has experimented with Airbases spawning ships yet. Maybe, it is possible to get it work.

@Serg... some feedback... the new AI subs w/crew look great in the Harbor mod... just one minor flaw... the bow wave on the AI Type VIIC/41 is a little bit messed up... but, the bow wave on the AI Type IIB looks great...

Hello sergbuto....thank you VERY MUCH for this mod...I'm looking forward to it! I was talking with some of the other people over at the SH3 boards, and some said that this, your creation, wasn't possible....

I now wonder, will you be adding AI to any more subs? Did you basically paste a sub skin on a pre-existing ship like a Flower Corvette, or did you basically do it from scratch?

I read the entire cloning object thread, and I'm interested in learning more....I don't know all that much about hex id editing, but I'm a fast learner!

They are prepared for a suddenly coming tsunami. :D

Seriously, you can always change the corresponding texture if you do not like them. I just used the stock texture plate. The texture is embedded in the conning tower file.

They were stock skins. But texture plates are independent on those for player subs and one can always repaint AI boats separately.

What do you mean by Orzels hex-string editing? As far as I know Orzel have asked me in the past how to clone the model and I am not aware of any other method than changing object's binary IDs to make them unique.

yes, i meant that method of cloning (as explained in his thread), "hex-string editing" is the wrong term ;) Puuuhh, that is a lot of work, when doing this to Southampton for making an unique Karlsruhe.... :roll: :)

Since the deck gun, firing by itself without crew, looks a bit odd, I have also tested the usage of the SH3 3-inch gun and 20mm AA-gun to get them manned, thanks to reminder by Commander1980. Below is a screenie

Why not? I've heard about the case when the aircraft was shut down by the U-boat's deck gun.

You need to place them on your SCR file or use the Harbour Traffic mod. ;)
