Tory MPs issue plan for Rishi Sunak to slash migration
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-66084962
Red Wall Tories have officially gone into panic mode, it's all too little and too late you bloody idiots, you Tories promised the nation you'd get a grip on Migration, instead you've increased it by tens of thousands month in month out.
Those Red Wall voters and all those other northern voters will not forget the constant attacks by the Tories upon their living standards either, all this levelling up bollocks which never materialised has had the opposite effect, none of them voted for this state of affairs and you as their MP are firmly in their sights.
The days are gone where voters would just blindly vote for their preferred party, well not anymore you muppets, those days won't be coming back anytime soon.
A political storm is on the way next year and you Red Wall Tories or any other Tories have done nothing to stop it, it's no use demanding Sunak does something about it now as it's too late in the day, Sunak is probably going down next year with "HMS Screw Up" and you and a lot more besides you might be going down with him.

Looks like Rishi has once again been found to be out of his depth.
Sir Lindsay Hoyle has once again blasted the Government for making a big police announcement to the media before doing so in the House of Commons.
Rishi Sunak unveiled a major new NHS workforce plan, with a new 15 year drive to recruit an additional 300,000 NHS staff on Friday.
The Government trailed the big announcement to the media on Thursday night, with a televised press conference from Downing Street on Friday.
However, Parliamentary rules dictate big announcements must be made to MPs first.
Taking to the Speaker's chair today, a furious Sir Lindsay Hoyle blasted Rishi Sunak for once again sidelining Parliament.
In an angry rant, he said: "I thank the Secretary of State for coming here to make a statement, it's a pity the Prime Minister hadn't done so on Friday where the world was meant to hear it before we do".
"The Prime Minister is a member of Parliament, he is answerable to members of parliament from all political parties, and I've got to say it is not acceptable.
"He may well be the Prime Minister, but the members of Parliament should hear it first, so I'm very pleased the Secretary of State is doing it the right way."
It wasn't the first time Rishi Sunak has been at the receiving end of Lindsay Hoyle's wrath.

Deputy PM Oliver Dowden and Labour's Angela Rayner have been arguing about government action on rising rents and mortgages at Prime Minister's Questions.
The pair stepped in for PM Rishi Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer, who are at an event celebrating the 75th anniversary of the NHS
They began by thanking NHS staff on its 75th anniversary and then went head-to-head on home ownership and interest rate rises.
Dowden was challenged over NHS waiting lists and staffing - and hailed the government's recently published workforce plan for the NHS, which he called a "treasured institution"
It was the fourth time Sunak has missed PMQs since taking over as PM - he will also miss next week because of a Nato summit.
Asked about his absences at a committee hearing yesterday, Sunak said he had no control over the timings of events.

Well, that could be rid of another disgraceful undesirable if even for just a short while.
MP Chris Pincher is facing an eight-week Commons suspension after an inquiry found he groped two men at a London club last year.
Parliament's standards committee said his "completely inappropriate" behaviour was an "abuse of power".
The recommended sanction will need to be endorsed by the whole House of Commons.
That would trigger a recall petition in his Tamworth constituency, potentially leading to a by-election.
In a statement, Mr Pincher said he wanted to "reflect" on the report's conclusions, but he did not intend to comment further "at this time".
He said he wanted to "apologise sincerely" for his conduct, adding that he had sought professional medical help, which is "ongoing".
Labour would need a swing of just over 21% to take his Tamworth seat in Staffordshire, where he had a 19,000 majority at the last election.
Mr Pincher is already due to stand down as an MP at the next general election, which is expected next year.

Boris and Carrie Johnson have announced the birth of a son, their third child together and first since he stood down as prime minister.
Frank Alfred Odysseus Johnson was born on 5 July, according to a social media post by Mrs Johnson.
The new baby joins son Wilfred and daughter Romy, both born during Mr Johnson term in office.
On Instagram, Mrs Johnson said the family was "all very smitten".

More hypocrisy from the poison dwarf.
Nicola Sturgeon splurged £1,200 of taxpayers’ cash on business class flights and a luxury hotel during her farewell tour of London TV studios.
The former SNP leader spent one of her final days as First Minister giving interviews on shows including ITV’s Loose Women.
She snubbed a request from Westminster’s Scottish affairs committee to give evidence about her time in office and instead embarked on a round of media appearances.
Ministerial expenses show she contradicted her supposed eco- credentials by shunning train travel, despite it being one-tenth of the cost.
Her two-day trip cost the public purse a total of £1,230.02, including £515 spent on one night in a London hotel – which government officials are refusing to name.
Criticising the expense, Tory MSP Annie Wells yesterday said that Ms Sturgeon should have ‘set an example’ and kept costs to a minimum.

The UK is trillions in debt and this government borrow money each year to give away 14 billion pounds of it to foreign countries, idiots.
It's because I was a 9-year-old refugee that I have such contempt for those unelected buffoons in the Lords trying to sabotage the Bill to stop small boats, writes PROFESSOR FRANK FUREDI
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-12297233/PROFESSOR-FRANK-FUREDI-contempt-unelected-buffoons-House-Lords.html
There are no refugees like PROFESSOR FRANK FUREDI anymore and, if there is, why aren't they standing up and defending this migration bill?.
Instead we've got these Lords wringing their hands in consternation at the cruelty of this bill, I'd show you pillocks what cruelty is if you need an example you ******* idiots. Why don't they take a long hard look at what a refugee actually is and, compare it to these economic migrants paying thousands of pounds to cross the English Channel in small boats are. Then, they'd have to come to the right decision and pass the bill, but, no, they keep their rose tinted specs on and denounce it outright as cruel.
As we've known for 50 years or more, these unelected morons would close their eyes before scrutinising the difference between a proper refugee and an economic migrant, the whole lot of these Lords are a bleeding disgrace and the death penalty should be brought back to reign in these bleeding muppets.
The house of parliament has caused every problem we've ever had in the UK since its inception and it needs tearing down now. A new beginning is required and everyone who works there must not be able to apply for any available positions, hell yes, right on baby, oh bugger, Nurse, I've forgot to take my medication again, Nurse.

The Covid public inquiry could finally gain access to Boris Johnson's WhatsApps from the first year of the pandemic, following a delay.
Technicians have been reluctant to turn on the old phone storing messages before May 2021, as the former PM was not sure about the passcode.
There were fears that getting it wrong could lead to the data being wiped.
But the government has now found a record of his Pin code, paving the way for it to be accessed.

Looks like the rats are starting to jump ship.
With a general election approaching, some Conservative ministers fear they won’t just be out of government in 18 months’ time but ejected from the House of Commons altogether.
With that in mind, and talk of a reshuffle next Friday growing, some admit privately they have signalled a desire to move to the backbenches. Doing so allows them to start running down the clock on the up-to-two-year ban that can be imposed on taking up a private sector job after leaving Whitehall.

I'm struggling to keep an open mind regarding this story because my instincts are telling me there could be some merit in the subject matter....I sincerely hope those instincts are mistaken though.
Joe Biden has been warned the "damage" he has done to the 'special relationship' between the UK and US now "cannot be undone while he is still president".
The US president, unlike his predecessor Donald Trump, has shown little interest in progressing a post-Brexit trade deal with the UK. He had publicly voiced his displeasure at the Government's stance on the Northern Ireland Protocol.
Last month, he skipped the Coronation of King Charles III and is reportedly pushing for European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to be the next head of NATO - weeks after UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace's candidacy was blocked by the White House.
The 80-year-old visited Britain earlier this week but he was in the country for less than a full day and spent less than an hour with Rishi Sunak at 10 Downing Street - a move that has angered many.
Nile Gardiner, a foreign policy expert and former aide to Lady Margaret Thatcher, told Daily Express US: "The trip was pointless. It was a brief stop on the way to the NATO summit and there was nothing of any substance from it.
"It just encapsulates Biden's overall approach to the UK, which is dismissive and a further illustration that he is no friend of Britain.
"He has been the most anti-Briitish president in the modern era. He's knifed Britain in the back on multiple occasions, from sinking a US-UK trade deal to most recently destroying the candidacy of Ben Wallace to be the next NATO Secretary-General.
"Biden has behaved in an appalling fashion and his visit to London - spending less than an hour with the Prime Minister and only a couple of hours with King Charles III at Windsor Castle.
Mr Biden has had to fend off fierce accusations over recent weeks that the US president is "anti-British", a claim the White House has publicly denied.
During talks with Mr Sunak on Monday, he insisted the 'special relationship' between the US and UK is "rock solid".
But in the eyes of Mr Gardiner, the US president's visit did absolutely nothing to silence the accusations he is "anti-British".
The foreign policy expert continued: "This wasn't even a minion state visit - it was just a brief stopover and Biden has done a great deal of damage to the 'special relationship' with the UK.
"I don't think that can be undone, at least while he is still president but it can be reversed when we have a new Conservative president who actually believes in the alliance with Britain, and Biden clearly doesn't.
"Nothing can be done to repair the damage that has been done while Biden is still president."
Mr Biden flew into London on Sunday evening before traveling to 10 Downing Street for talks with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
The two leaders sipped tea in the garden in front of the media, with a number of topics on the table in the short meeting, including support for Ukraine during the war with Russia.
The US President insisted the relationship between the US and the UK is "rock solid" while Mr Sunak said it was "great for us to carry on our conversation" following a string of meetings this year, including last month's visit to Washington.
The Prime Minister added: "We stand as two of the firmest allies in that alliance and I know we'll want to do everything we can to strengthen Euro-Atlantic security."
Mr Biden later tweeted a photo of him shaking hands with Mr Sunak on the steps of 10 Downing Street.
He wrote alongside the picture: "From 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to 10 Downing Street - our two nations couldn't have a closer friend, nor a greater ally, than one another. United."
Downing Street later issued a statement announcing the two leaders had "agreed to hold the first high-level meeting between Number 10 and White House representatives in October to drive progress under the Atlantic Declaration".

The Kremlin has branded Boris Johnson an "idiot" who should be "admitted to a psychiatric hospital" over his views on admitting Ukraine to NATO.

On Biden'S stance on the UK, it is known since long that he favours a Brexit arrangement not leaving Ireland at risk to fall back to not so good times. After all, he has Irish ancestors.
Nothing of this can be of a surprise for the UK.
And the special relationship? Already back at the war of 2003 I argued that the British side reads much more into it than the US. The US made pragmatic use of the UK, this, and nothing else. The gain for the UK? The sentimental memory of being a great and indispensable empire again.

He told the Sunday Times he would not stand at the next general election, but ruled out leaving "prematurely" and triggering a by-election.
Mr Wallace has served as defence secretary under three prime ministers and has played a high-profile role in the UK's response to the Ukraine war.

One way or the other can we just get this thing settled.
Probably the only topic Rishi can count on having a majority of public opinion in his favour.
Rishi Sunak faces a crucial day of Parliamentary scrutiny over his plans to crack down Channel crossings of asylum seekers as his controversial “stop the boats” Bill returns to the Commons.
The Prime Minister has pegged his premiership on his promise to end the dangerous boat crossings – one of his oft-repeated five pledges – but he and Home Secretary Suella Braverman have hit hurdle after hurdle.
Today, the legislation returns to MPs after the Lords forced through a raft of amendments on issues such as child detention and trafficking.
Government insiders have briefed that they are confident the bill will be passed this week after a couple of days of back and forth between the Lords and Commons – with their hope that it will be signed off by Wednesday, before Parliament breaks for its summer holiday.

More financial madness from the UK government.
Britain is set to hand India more foreign aid, it has emerged, just days after the country launched a rocket into space.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) sent New Delhi £33.4 million in overseas aid in 2022/23.
Its annual report reveals that the handouts are set to jump by 70 percent to £57 million in 2024/25.
John O'Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, told The Telegraph: "The foreign aid debacle has been allowed to carry on for far too long.
"Arbitrary spending targets have seen untold millions sent abroad to fund spurious projects in countries with larger economies than our own.
"To create a fairer deal for taxpayers, ministers should scrap the target and make aid available when truly needed."
Details of the growing overseas aid to India come days after the country launched its third Moon mission.
If the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft lands it will make New Delhi only the fourth country to do so - along with the US, the former Soviet Union and China.
China spent £200bn on arms last year. India launched a moon rocket recently. Do either of those sound like "developing nations" in need of British charity, asks Robert Taylor.

Labour and Lib Dems are celebrating big by-election wins in two safe Conservative seats.
Labour overturns a Tory majority of 20,137 in the North Yorkshire seat of Selby and Ainsty.
Keir Mather becomes the youngest MP currently in the House of Commons, at 25 years old.
And the Lib Dems' Sarah Dyke overturns a Conservative majority of 19,000 in Somerton and Frome.
Party leader Sir Ed Davey, standing in front of a cartoon cannon, says the victory shows that voters are uniting to defeat the Conservatives.
But Rishi Sunak says the next general election is "not a done deal" after the Tories narrowly hold the London seat of Uxbridge and South Ruislip.

Nothing beats a good dose of 'sour grapes'.....or a by-election defeat.
Johnny Mercer has come under fire for launching a scathing attack on Labour’s newest MP. The Tory minister took aim at Keir Mather, comparing him to a character from the popular sitcom, Inbetweeners.
Mercer’s comments were made on Sky News, where he also suggested that MPs should have raised a family before standing for parliament. Mather, who is just 25, overturned a 20,000 Tory majority in the seat to pull off an historic win in Selby and Ainsty.
Despite his triumph, Mercer claimed that Mather is ‘too inexperienced’ to become an MP and accused him of robotically “parroting” Labour lines because he does not have enough ‘life experience’
Mercer said: “I think it’s always good to get new people in politics. I think we mustn’t become a repeat of the Inbetweeners. You’ve got to have people who have actually done stuff.
“This guy has been at Oxford University more than he’s been in a job. You put a chip in him there and he just repeats Labour lines.
“The problem is people have had enough of that, right? They want people who are authentic, people who have worked in that constituency, who understand what life is like - to live, work and raise a family in communities like theirs.
“I’m afraid I don’t agree with this style of politics. It’s exactly why people like me couldn’t vote in the 2015 election, because you’ve got people with nothing to do with the constituency just dropped in, put a chip in them and they’ll start parroting Labour Party politics.”

The Tories got off lightly me thinks, they deserved to lose that bi-election in Selby & Ainsty as no one of importance campaigned on behalf of the Tory candidate, in fact the Tory candidate didn't do much campaigning either. A strange affair me thinks, maybe the voters told them a few home truths in the weeks before the vote and the Tories already knew they were going to lose it, I can't think of anything else as to why they would throw the towel in so easily.
The LibDems won the Somerton & Frome seat and the Tories held Uxbridge & South Ruislip, it's looking grim for Sunak at the moment and his 5 pledges are not being delivered either, if he doesn't deliver on them soon there'll be calls for his head to roll.
When the Labour manifesto is in the public domain then Starmer has to get off that fence he loves so much and try and get the country behind it, that'll be easier said than done, voter rejection at not being able to define what a woman is and Labours support of the Union Barons will cost him dear, then there's the money from the Eco backers he's been getting, tricky ground Starmer, tricky ground. :O:

Speaking during a visit to Shefford in Nadine Dorries' constituency of Mid Bedfordshire, the Labour leader told journalists: "I don't think there is any doubt that Ulez was the reason that we lost the election in Uxbridge."
Sir Keir said he had spoken to the London mayor, adding: "But we're not sitting back, we're not looking over our shoulder. We're pressing forward."
Sources close to Mr Khan told the BBC he was in "constructive listening mode" but added that he had no plans to delay the scheme's expansion at the end of August.
Asked whether Labour needs to rethink its climate polices, Sir Keir said: "When it comes to green commitments, it's not a question of whether they should be done, of course it needs to be done - it's how they're done.
"So there's a discussion to be had about that."
Mr Tuckwell, the winning candidate in Uxbridge, said the "damaging and costly Ulez policy" had cost Labour the chance of winning the seat.
The Ulez is a £12.50 daily charge for driving in London, applicable if the vehicle does not meet certain emission standards. It initially covered the same central area as the congestion charge before widening to the North and South Circular roads in 2021.
A further expansion to cover all London boroughs is due to start on 29 August.
On Friday, Labour's deputy leader Angela Rayner said the Uxbridge result showed that "when you don't listen to voters, you don't win elections".

It is now being suggested there could be a challenge to First Minister Humza Yousaf.
Jimbuna

Humza is a stupid as the person he replaced.
Same old tune just a different musical instrument.
Scotland would adopt a citizenship model similar to that of Ireland if it ever becomes independent, the First Minister will announce on Thursday.
Humza Yousaf will unveil the fifth paper in a series laying out the prospectus for Scotland after separation on Thursday, focusing on immigration and citizenship.
The Scottish Government has long advocated increased immigration to cope with an ageing population, with former first minister Nicola Sturgeon publishing plans for a separate Scottish visa in 2020, which was almost immediately rejected by Westminster.
Speaking at a roundtable event on Thursday in Edinburgh, Mr Yousaf will announce that anyone with a parent born in Scotland will be able to apply for Scottish citizenship if the country leaves the UK.
The paper will also lay out the rights of British nationals to claim dual citizenship, as well as how the process for foreign nationals to apply will be streamlined.
Speaking ahead of the announcement, the First Minister said: “Today I’ll outline the Scottish Government’s proposals for citizenship in an independent Scotland – they are inclusive, bold and they will help boost both our population and economy.
“Scotland’s working population is being hit by a heartless Westminster migration system that isn’t fit for purpose and a hard Brexit that Scotland didn’t vote for, making our population challenges significantly worse.
“I am in no doubt that alongside the climate crisis, the challenges of an ageing population are one of the biggest issues future generations will face in Scotland, unless action is taken today.
“The Scottish Government wants to make it easier for people, including those seeking to reconnect with family roots, to gain citizenship and contribute to our economy, society and public services like the NHS.
“And when we re-join the EU as an independent country, Scottish citizens will be able to enjoy all the benefits of EU citizenship too.
“An independent Scotland will be a welcoming country as part of our ambition to be an inclusive, progressive and prosperous nation. I look forward to the debate about what citizenship will mean in a modern, independent Scotland.”
Scottish Lib Dem MSP Willie Rennie said the paper was “more therapy for Humza Yousaf and the nationalist movement than a serious attempt to persuade people to support their cause”.
“Even if it is just for a few hours, it must be a great relief to be distracted from broken ferries, ever longer waiting lists and a social care backlog that mushrooms,” he added.
“But the SNP shouldn’t be using Government time and money when funds are tight and for something that they know just isn’t going to happen. A majority of people want Government to focus on the day job.”
Scottish Conservative shadow cabinet secretary for the constitution, external affairs and culture Donald Cameron MSP said: “This latest self-indulgent paper touting independence is not just a blatant misuse of public money and resources by the SNP, it demonstrates how out of touch they are with the public.
“It’s a sign of Humza Yousaf’s weakness that he is once again obsessing on breaking up the UK – because it’s the only issue his feuding party can agree on.
“Rather than wasting taxpayers’ money and civil servants’ time on pushing a divisive, party political agenda, a strong leader would be concentrating on the issues that matter to Scots – unacceptable NHS waiting times and the cost-of-living crisis.
“As for tackling population decline, the SNP’s policy of making Scotland the highest taxed part of the UK is an active disincentive to people settling here.
“While the scandal-ridden SNP retreat to their independence comfort blanket, only the Scottish Conservatives are focused on Scotland’s real priorities.”

Rishi Sunak has made stopping small boats arriving in the UK one of his government's main priorities since becoming prime minister last October.
But continued crossings, a large backlog of asylum claims and legal challenges to the government's policies have hampered their efforts.
Nearly 15,000 migrants have crossed the English Channel in boats this year.
Home Secretary Suella Braverman was working on contingency plans to erect the tents in the coming weeks, with a surge of boats expected.
So, fun times ahead I suspect.
From what I understand is that this breach is very serious.
Saw some minutes on Sky News on the topic.
Is it the entire police corp with names addresses who has been breached ?

The Tories have always boasted they are the perty of low taxes but that ic currently clearly not the case.
On a personal note, I am now paying more income tax on my two pensions than what I paid whilst in employment.
Sunak’s stealth tax raid sees burden on British households soar by 40pc
Rishi Sunak’s stealth tax raid has seen payments to the Exchequer surge by 40pc since the pandemic, Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) analysis shows.
Payments of taxes on earnings and wealth – such as income tax and capital gains tax – were up by 39.2pc in the first quarter of this year compared with the final months of 2019, the OECD found.
The tax burden on households has shot up more quickly in the UK than in other big rich economies, analysts said, despite all facing similar blows from Covid-19.
By contrast, Americans are paying just over 30pc more than they did before Covid.
British households paid £84bn in income and wealth taxes to the Exchequer in the first quarter of 2023 compared with £60.6bn in the final three months of 2019, according to the group’s seasonally adjusted data.
Much of the increase reflects freezes to key income tax and capital gains thresholds. Then-chancellor Sunak announced a freeze until 2025-26 in March 2021. His successor at the Treasury, Jeremy Hunt, has since extended it for another two years.
Thresholds have been maintained despite the high rate of inflation, which is pushing more workers into higher tax brackets when they get pay rises.
The frozen thresholds have been dubbed a stealth tax raid by critics who point out that wages are still failing to keep pace with bills and prices.

Is this old chestnut ever going to go away?
Scotland could face eight-year wait to rejoin EU after independence in blow to SNP
Scotland could face waiting almost a decade to rejoin the EU after independence, according to the SNP government's own officials.
Internal analysis by civil servants states that it may take up to eight years for an independent Scotland to become part of the Brussels club.
Under a best-case scenario, the process would take between three and four years.
It also highlighted external warnings that Scotland would be forced to join the Euro and the Schengen area, which would mean passport checks to travel across the border to England.
And it found over 30 new public bodies would have to be set up to meet membership requirements.
The undated analysis, written before the UK left the EU, said: "The best case scenario for Scotland would involve a total timeline of three to four years and the upper limit could be up to eight years, based on Scotland acceding to the EU from third country status."
The devolved administration was forced to release the documents by Scottish Information Commissioner Daren Fitzhenry after initially attempting to keep them secret.
The SNP government said the information "does not reflect current government thinking" and that it would be "inaccurate to suggest that any of the details within reflect past or present government policy".
But Shadow Scotland Secretary Ian Murray said it was a blow to the case for independence.
The Labour frontbencher told The Telegraph: "It's no wonder the SNP wanted to keep this damning analysis from the public.
"This makes abundantly clear that the SNP's independence plans would be Brexit on steroids - years of political upheaval and economic harm justified by a vague promise of jam tomorrow."
A Scottish Government spokesman said some of the advice "pre-dates the pandemic and other significant developments" such as the post-Brexit trade deal.
He added: "To give people the information they need to make an informed choice about Scotland's constitutional future, ministers will shortly publish a paper setting out how an independent Scotland would re-join the EU, in order to escape the damage of Brexit and enjoy the benefits of being back in the EU as a full, equal member."

Is this the sort of action you'd expect from a so-called ally?
French warships spotted 'dropping off' migrants to UK rather than stopping them
The widespread extent to which French warships are failing to intercept migrant boats and instead escorting them across the English Channel has been revealed.
In just a few hours, when we joined a patrol on the Channel yesterday, Express.co.uk witnessed several small boats being guided across the sea by France's coastguard.
These large grey militaristic vessels follow dinghies overflowing with people across vast shipping lanes.
As the boats plotted an unpredictable course the warships were forced to turn in all number of different directions to remain with them, manoeuvres which would normally be in breach of maritime rules.
Once in British waters the small boats are passed over to UK Border Force or the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and rescued from the water.
These trips might appear to contradict the spirit of the Home Office's £62 million deal with France to stop small boat crossings, but they are far from a secret.
Using the app Maritime Traffic anyone can follow the routes taken by the French warships, explained Matt Coker the Chartered Skipper of the fishing boat we travelled on.
The experienced fisherman was able to show Express.co.uk many more examples of these escorts using the app's data.
"The French boat patrols up and down around the coast along the coast of France," he said highlighting one warship's journey.
"Then at some time in the early hours of this morning, it comes round in close to the beach at Sangat and picks up a migrant boat.
"He's then taken that migrant boat and escorted it all the way across the shipping lanes then just across the border into UK waters and he's dropped it off.
"He's gone back into French waters, found another migrant boat and he's escorted that across the border and he's kept that going all the way through up to about three miles off the English coast."
"It's a sizable warship - it shouldn't have any problems stopping a small inflatable dinghy," he added.
Skipper Coker questioned the ethical justification French authorities had for providing this service to migrant boats, arguing that it was essentially facilitating human trafficking.
You can watch the full video of Skipper Coker explaining these French-aided crossings above.

A random musing:
The longer the Tories are in power, the more determined to hang on to that power they are.
In a democracy, the other side are allowed to have a go at governing when they're voted in even if you oppose everything they represent.
Too many Tories seem to have forgotten that, if they believed in democracy at all. Which I think too many of the current crop don't.
That goes for the party's grass roots members as well.

Rishi Sunak is so seriously out of touch I find it extremely worrying.
Rishi Sunak has said it is difficult for people to understand the scale of government support with energy bills, as he defended his record on tackling the cost of living.
The prime minister said halving inflation was a top priority and his plan to ease rising prices was working.
It comes as the latest figures showed inflation slowed last month due to lower energy costs.
But food, restaurants and hotel costs are still rising.
The inflation rate, which measures price changes over time, fell to 6.8% in the year to July, down from 7.9% in June. This means prices are rising less quickly.
Inflation is much lower than it was at its peak of 11.1% in October, but it still remains high compared to historical rates and much higher than the Bank of England's 2% target.

On a rare positive note:
Rishi Sunak has signalled that state pensions could go up next year by almost eight per cent as he committed to maintaining the “triple lock”.
Under the triple lock, the state pension is uprated in April by inflation, wages or 2.5 per cent, whichever is higher.
Wage growth is currently the highest of the three metrics, reaching 7.8 per cent in June compared with the same period 12 months earlier.

We are in the middle of a six year freeze on increases to the personal tax allowance thresholds so because of the above rises, millions are now entering the taxpayer bands.
The Tories are no longer the government of 'low taxes'

The hypocrisy of it all :)
SNP ministers have applauded record North Sea tax revenues despite threatening to block new oil and gas exploration in an independent Scotland.
Neil Gray, the party’s Wellbeing Economy Secretary, said the £9.4 billion of revenues in 2022/23 demonstrated “our vibrant energy sector” and how “the UK continues to benefit from Scotland’s natural wealth”.
But the Tories questioned how that tallied with SNP proposals to create a presumption against new oil and gas exploration, with Humza Yousaf, the First Minister, lambasting Rishi Sunak’s decision to grant 100 new licences last month.

The SNP has appointed its former head of communications Murray Foote as its new chief executive.
Mr Foote resigned from his previous role in March amid a row over the party's membership numbers.

Nadine Dorries' resignation letter in full
Dear Prime Minister,
It has been the greatest honour and privilege of my life to have served the good people of Mid Bedfordshire as their MP for 18 years and I count myself blessed to have worked in Westminster for almost a quarter of a century. Despite what some in the media and you yourself have implied, my team of caseworkers and I have continued to work for my constituents faithfully and diligently to this day.
When I arrived in Mid Bedfordshire in 2005, I inherited a Conservative majority of 8,000. Over five elections this has increased to almost 25,000, making it one of the safest seats in the country. A legacy I am proud of.
During my time as a Member of Parliament, I have served as a back bencher, a bill Committee Chair, a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State before becoming Minister of State in the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) during the Covid crisis, after which I was appointed as Secretary of State at the department of Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS). The offer to continue in my Cabinet role was extended to me by your predecessor, Liz Truss, and I am grateful for your personal phone call on the morning you appointed your cabinet in October, even if I declined to take the call.
As politicians, one of the greatest things we can do is to empower people to have opportunities to achieve their aspirations and to help them to change their lives for the better. In DHSC I championed meaningful improvements to maternity and neonatal safety. I launched the women's health strategy and pushed forward a national evidence-based trial for Group B Strep testing in pregnant women with the aim to reduce infant deaths. When I resigned as Secretary of State for DCMS I was able to thank the professional, dedicated and hard-working civil servants for making our department the highest performing in Whitehall. We worked tirelessly to strengthen the Online Safety Bill to protect young people, froze the BBC licence fee, included the sale of Channel 4 into the Media Bill to protect its long-term future and led the world in imposing cultural sanctions when Putin invaded Ukraine.
I worked with and encouraged the tech sector, to search out untaught talents such as creative and critical thinking in deprived communities offering those who faced a life on low unskilled pay or benefits, access to higher paid employment and social mobility. What many of the CEOs I spoke to in the tech sector and business leaders really wanted was meaningful regulatory reform from you as chancellor to enable companies not only to establish in the UK, but to list on the London Stock Exchange rather than New York. You flashed your gleaming smile in your Prada shoes and Savile Row suit from behind a camera, but you just weren't listening. All they received in return were platitudes and a speech illustrating how wonderful life was in California. London is now losing its appeal as more UK-based companies seek better listing opportunities in the US. That, Prime Minister, is entirely down to you.
Long before my resignation announcement, in July 2022, I had advised the cabinet secretary, Simon Case, of my intention to step down. Senior figures in the party, close allies of yours, have continued to this day to implore me to wait until the next general election rather than inflict yet another damaging by-election on the party at a time when we are consistently twenty points behind in the polls.
Having witnessed first-hand, as Boris Johnson and then Liz Truss were taken down, I decided that the British people had a right to know what was happening in their name. Why is it that we have had five Conservative prime ministers since 2010, with not one of the previous four having left office as the result of losing a general election? That is a democratic deficit which the mother of parliaments should be deeply ashamed of and which, as you and I know, is the result of the machinations of a small group of individuals embedded deep at the centre of the party and Downing Street.
To start with, my investigations focused on the political assassination of Boris Johnson, but as I spoke to more and more people - and I have spoken to a lot of people, from ex-prime ministers, cabinet ministers both ex and current through all levels of government and Westminster and even journalists - a dark story emerged which grew ever more disturbing with each person I spoke to.
It became clear to me as I worked that remaining as a back bencher was incompatible with publishing a book which exposes how the democratic process at the heart of our party has been corrupted. As I uncovered this alarming situation I knew, such were the forces ranged against me, that I was grateful to retain my parliamentary privilege until today. And, as you also know Prime Minister, those forces are today the most powerful figures in the land. The onslaught against me even included the bizarre spectacle of the Cabinet Secretary claiming (without evidence) to a select committee that he had reported me to the Whips and Speakers office (not only have neither office been able to confirm this was true, but they have no power to act, as he well knows). It is surely as clear a breach of Civil Service impartiality as you could wish to see.
But worst of all has been the spectacle of a prime minister demeaning his office by opening the gates to whip up a public frenzy against one of his own MPs. You failed to mention in your public comments that there could be no writ moved for a by-election over summer. And that the earliest any by-election could take place is at the end of September. The clearly orchestrated and almost daily personal attacks demonstrates the pitifully low level your Government has descended to.
It is a modus operandi established by your allies which has targeted Boris Johnson, transferred to Liz Truss and now moved on to me. But I have not been a prime minister. I do not have security or protection. Attacks from people, led by you, declared open season on myself and the past weeks have resulted in the police having to visit my home and contact me on a number of occasions due to threats to my person.
Since you took office a year ago, the country is run by a zombie Parliament where nothing meaningful has happened. What exactly has been done or have you achieved? You hold the office of prime minister unelected, without a single vote, not even from your own MPs. You have no mandate from the people and the government is adrift. You have squandered the goodwill of the nation, for what?
And what a difference it is now since 2019, when Boris Johnson won an eighty-seat majority and a greater percentage of the vote share than Tony Blair in the Labour landslide victory of 1997. We were a mere five points behind on the day he was removed from office. Since you became prime minister, his manifesto has been completely abandoned. We cannot simply disregard the democratic choice of the electorate, remove both the prime minister and the manifesto commitments they voted for and then expect to return to the people in the hope that they will continue to unquestioningly support us. They have agency, they will use it.
Levelling up has been discarded and with it, those deprived communities it sought to serve. Social care, ready to be launched, abandoned along with the hope of all of those who care for the elderly and the vulnerable. The Online Safety Bill has been watered down. BBC funding reform, the clock run down. The Mental Health Act, timed out. Defence spending, reduced. Our commitment to net zero, animal welfare and the green issues so relevant to the planet and voters under 40, squandered. As Lord Goldsmith wrote in his own resignation letter, because you simply do not care about the environment or the natural world. What exactly is it you do stand for?
You have increased Corporation tax to 25%, taking us to the level of the highest tax take since World War Two at 75% of GDP, and you have completely failed in reducing illegal immigration or delivering on the benefits of Brexit. The bonfire of EU legislation, swerved. The Windsor framework agreement, a dead duck, brought into existence by shady promises of future preferment with grubby rewards and potential gongs to MPs. Stormont is still not sitting.
Disregarding your own chancellor, last week you took credit for reducing inflation, citing your "plan". There has been no budget, no new fiscal measures, no debate, there is no plan. Such statements take the British public for fools. The decline in the price of commodities such as oil and gas, the eased pressure on the supply of wheat and the increase in interest rates by the Bank of England are what has taken the heat out of the economy and reduced inflation. For you to personally claim credit for this was disingenuous at the very least.
It is a fact that there is no affection for Keir Starmer out on the doorstep. He does not have the winning X factor qualities of a Thatcher, a Blair, or a Boris Johnson, and sadly, prime minister, neither do you. Your actions have left some 200 or more of my MP colleagues to face an electoral tsunami and the loss of their livelihoods, because in your impatience to become prime minister you put your personal ambition above the stability of the country and our economy. Bewildered, we look in vain for the grand political vision for the people of this great country to hold on to, that would make all this disruption and subsequent inertia worthwhile, and we find absolutely nothing.
I shall take some comfort from explaining to people exactly how you and your allies achieved this undemocratic upheaval in my book. I am a proud working-class Conservative which is why the Levelling Up agenda was so important to me. I know personally how effective a strong and helping hand can be to lift someone out of poverty and how vision, hope and opportunity can change lives. You have abandoned the fundamental principles of Conservatism. History will not judge you kindly.
I shall today inform the chancellor of my intention to take the Chiltern Hundreds, enabling the writ to be moved on 4 September for the by-election you are so desperately seeking to take place.
Yours sincerely,
Nadine Dorries

This isn't just Birmingham, there are other councils in the same boat and it's not just the Labour councils either, there are Tory and LibDems in there as well, and from what I've heard there are a lot more teetering on the edge.
On that basis above, neither the Tory Party or the Labour one should ever have the keys to 10 Downing Street, what about the LibDems then?, they had a share of the keys in the 2010 General Election and they royally screwed that up, no thank you.
That's it then, it's a choice between the screwups and the even bigger screwups, and I don't know which is which. :haha:

Now the armed police are revolting, this wouldn't be happening if that judge knew anything about life on Britain's streets, no, these pillocks sit in their white marble towers and pass judgement on matters that are beyond their comprehension.
My advice to anyone who wants to criticize the armed police is to go and do a fortnights course of their training, me thinks being plunged into life and death situations will give them a different perspective on life and a much greater appreciation of the pressure that these armed officers are under.
Remember, mistakes will always happen no matter what training they've had, and if those officers get it seriously wrong, well, we could be witness to a bloodbath that no politician wants to take the blame for.

No one has ever done a huge poll on this migration problem, it's time they did and, I don't mean plastic migrants either, I mean British White People, 150,000 to 200,000 from each county should give those MP's a clear picture of what people want, and what they don't want.

Migration again Suella, she's making waves again but nothing gets done about it, talk, talk, talk, that's all she does, of course it's not all her fault, it's the bleeding heart numb nuts of the Tory backbenches that are the guilty ones. If the Tories want to stay in power then getting a grip on this Migration invasion is vital for the Tory government, it's too late for this next General Election but not for the one's after it.
The lefty Labour Party pillocks can whine and whinge all day long as usual but those crocodile tears are wearing very thin, whoever stamps their foot down with a firm hand on this problem will win every General Election for the next 30 years or so. Bring back the UK Bill of Rights that Fishy Rishi scrapped and get it implemented immediately.
If only those MP's of long ago had a glimpse of life in 21st century Britain they would never have voted for this unregulated madness, most of them would have voted with Enoch Powell and banned migration for ever. He warned us all then and they didn't listen, and Suella is giving them another warning now and they're still not listening, you bleeding idiots.

Macron humiliated as France isolated over post-Brexit vehicle rules
France is once again finding itself as the isolated black sheep in the EU, opposing the UK in the ongoing negotiations on electric vehicle trade between Brexit Britain and the Brussels bloc.
Reminiscent of Paris's inflexible position during the Brexit negotiations, France is finding itself cornered in its opposition to the UK's stance on electric vehicles.
Emmanuel Macron's EU allies, particularly Germany, are showing support and flexibility towards Britain's proposals.
The issue on the table is the imminent 10 per cent tariff slated for implementation in January, targeting vehicles that fail to meet stringent regulations concerning the sourcing of components for electric vehicle batteries.
This impending tariff has raised alarm bells in the UK, as it threatens to harm automakers on both sides of the English Channel.
The UK has advocated for an extension of the deadline to allow the industry more time to adapt. This plea was officially conveyed during a meeting with EU counterparts on Wednesday.
Notably, the UK has found an unexpected ally in Germany, whose automotive industry is already grappling with challenges. In addition to the post-Brexit tariffs, Brussels has announced plans to initiate an investigation into Chinese subsidies for electric vehicles.
This investigation carries the potential to adversely affect major European carmakers, such as Volkswagen, BMW, and Mercedes, given their extensive exposure to the expansive Chinese market.
During a recent European meeting, several countries with substantial automotive industries, including Sweden, the Czech Republic, Belgium, and Italy, threw their weight behind Germany's position.
Three unnamed EU diplomats told Politico that from the meeting, France emerged as the lone EU member state vehemently opposing the UK's stance.
The division over electric vehicle trade regulations also runs deep within the European Commission itself. While the EU's executive body is ostensibly committed to upholding the terms of the post-Brexit agreement, some members, notably Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton and others, assert that the UK's concessions could jeopardise the European battery industry and the EU's efforts to reduce its dependence on China.
One EU diplomat branded any postponement as a potential "political shock" from the Commission, deeming it an unlikely scenario, particularly as the Commission explores the possibility of imposing additional tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles.
Nonetheless, the Commission remains divided, with EU trade chief Valdis Dombrovskis aligning with London's call for greater flexibility, at least in the short term.
The responsibility for resolving this deadlock now rests with Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

EU fines Britain £28 million as bloc accused of 'punishing' UK for Brexit
Judges in the European Union have fined the UK £28 million (€32 million) as a result of its failure to impose EU rules on diesel.
There are fears in Whitehall the ruling could set a precedent over future post-Brexit dealings with the EU.
The penalty, imposed by the European Court of Justice (ECJ), is almost double what was initially recommended by advisers.
It is thought to be a warning to Northern Ireland in order to clamp down on potential rule breaking in the region.
The fine was relative to the UK's economy as a whole, rather than that of Northern Ireland, explaining that this "would not be sufficiently dissuasive and therefore would not make it possible to achieve the aim of effectively preventing the repetition of similar infringements of EU law in the future".
The ECJ also said the fine was increased because the UK took so long to comply with the 2018 judgment.
Northern Ireland is governed by a number of EU rules for goods in order to prevent a hard border with the Republic of Ireland.
The rules are overseen by the European Commission and enforced by the European Court of Justice.
The fine came as a result of the UK's failure to implement an EU ban on the use of red diesel - which is subject to a five per cent tax rate - in private pleasure craft, such as canal boats or yachts.
The rule is meant to force boat owners to use white diesel, taxed at the full rate of fuel duty and VAT at 20 per cent.
Speaking about the ruling, prominent Brexiteer David Jones said: "The attitude is what it always was.
"The EU has always wanted to punish the UK for daring to exercise its treaty right to leave.
"Northern Ireland is the EU’s continuing leverage over the whole of the UK.
"It is exercising that leverage and will continue to do so until we take steps to break it."
Speaking to the Telegraph, he added: "This simply underlines that the Windsor Framework is a huge ball and chain that prevents the entire UK from diverging from EU regulation.
"It needs to be renegotiated."
The UK Government said: "This is ultimately a historic case which began at a time when the UK was a member of the EU. We have now left.
"Since then, we have negotiated the world’s largest zero tariffs and zero quotas deal with the EU, and are now focused on using our Brexit freedoms to the benefit of the British public."

Rutherglen and Hamilton West By-Election.
The Background to this By-Election.
Ms Ferrier became SNP MP for Rutherglen and Hamilton West in 2015 when she beat the Labour incumbent in the seat, she narrowly lost the seat to Labour at the 2017 general election, but then took it back two years later in 2019.
Earlier this year, the Commons' Committee on Standards recommended Ms Ferrier be suspended from Parliament for 30 days for damaging the reputation of the House.
The length of the suspension led to a recall petition, which was signed by nearly 15 per cent of local voters.
Ms Ferrier broke Covid rules by travelling from England to Scotland while she had been tested positive for Covid, yep, the "Covid Con" put paid to her, the powers that be had to do something about it or it might have affected the "Brown Envelope Scam" that all politicians love so much. As I, and millions of other people now know, it was no worse than the common "Flu Bug" but those in charge saw the chance to make some money out of it, and we all know that politicians love to get their filthy "Snouts in the Trough", that's the background to this story if you didn't already know about it.

Next week's Rutherglen and Hamilton West by-election in Scotland is a must-win contest for the SNP, if they lose it, the Labour Party will almost certainly gain that seat. We'll hear Starmer and the rest of his vegetables crowing over it for months on end, as if they aren't insufferable enough as it is. Will this win or lose seat reflect the whole of the country, probably not, but for Labour, if they win it, it could be the first massive dent in the SNP and Yousaf's impregnable armour, and who would have said that a year ago?.
Where are the LibDems and the Tory Party in this by-election?, me thinks they're as far back as "John the Baptist", whoever is victorious in this contest will breathe a huge sigh of relief, for the vanquished however, there will be the possibility of a knives out campaign against the leadership of all the losing parties, who the hell would want to be a politician eh?, only the greedy bastards who only see the perks of the job, and there's plenty of those about I can tell you.

When Sunak took over No 10 he boasted the Tories 'Were the party of low taxes' but is that actually the case?
Tax levels in the UK are at their highest since records began 70 years ago - and are unlikely to come down, a leading think tank says.
The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) forecasts taxes will amount to about 37% of national income by the next general election, due in 2024.
The IFS report - on the eve of the Conservative conference - has reignited calls for tax cuts from Tory MPs.
The government says taming price rises is its priority.
Next year, the government will collect upwards of £100bn more in tax compared to pre-2019 levels, the IFS says.
This is not a direct consequence of the coronavirus pandemic, when government spending surged to keep the economy afloat, the think tank argues.
Instead, it reflects decisions to increase government spending, the UK's ageing population and pressures on the health service.

You know there's a General Election around the corner when the Tories bring out these boogeyman stories about work shy benefit claimants, apparently, we have the lowest unemployment figures since time began so Mr Hunt's facts don't stand up to the real facts. These typical Tories ignore these real facts as usual, and, might I say that if it has recently become such a big deal, such a pressing issue, then why hasn't he sorted it out already?, a typical Tory bleeding idiot who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.
Here's a radical idea for you Mr Hunt, you can start saving money by sending back the illegal scroungers instead of putting then up in 5* hotels, that'll save upwards of £10 million a day, is that too radical you currant, well, stop the scroungers from claiming benefits and legal aid then, that'll be a big winner, and while you're at it you can cut the "House of Lords" scroungers by 50%, hundreds of millions to be saved there me thinks, I have lots of good ideas like those, so why doesn't he come up with some before spouting his out dated garbage.

Next up is the pension triple-lock. The Tories need the pensioner vote for the upcoming election yet still dither when asked the million dollar question.
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt took a lengthy pause when asked about whether the pensions triple lock will remain in place.
The top Tory was grilled on whether the Government plans to maintain the policy, which puts up the state pension each April in line with whichever measure is highest of inflation, average wage increases or 2.5%. Speculation has been mounting over whether Rishi Sunak will maintain the guarantee for millions of pensioners in its current form as he desperately casts around to save cash.
Asked if he was going to keep the triple lock on Sky News, Mr Hunt paused for a long moment then said: "You'll hear what we are going to do on that in the Autumn Statement. Look at our actions to date. We have always prioritised that group of people... You'll hear in the Autumn Statement."
The PM set hares running last month when he declined to say whether the key policy would be included in the Conservative Party’s manifesto. He told reporters: “We’re not going to speculate on the election manifesto now. I’ve got plenty to get on with between now and then. But the triple lock is the Government’s policy and has been for a long time. I’m not going to get into our manifesto now but the triple lock has been a long-standing policy for us.”
No10 denied last week that Mr Sunak was looking at scrapping the winter fuel allowance for pensioners to maintain the triple lock. “That is not something we are going to do,” a government spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, Mr Hunt resisted calls from Tory colleagues to go on a tax-cutting spree, saying the move would "compromise" the battle against inflation. During a series of interviews he kept his emphasis on "this year", leaving the door open to cutting taxes in the Spring Budget ahead of the next election.

Millionaires in Jeremy Hunt's own area will save £157million from inheritance tax cut.
Millionaires in Jeremy Hunt’s own constituency will be amongst the biggest winners if he axes inheritance tax.
The Chancellor is considering giving the country’s most wealthy families a massive tax break by abolishing the levy. It is only paid by the richest 4% with couples able to hand up to £1million to their children without paying a penny.
Figures show that Kensington, Chelsea and Hammersmith would save three times as much as the whole of the North East of England if it is abolished. The HMRC data shows that households in the London neighbourhoods paid £201million in inheritance tax in the year to March 2020.
This area contains the constituencies of both Conservative Party chairman Greg Hands and Levelling Up Minister Felicity Buchan. The second most affected area is West Surrey, which includes Mr Hunt’s constituency, where £157million was paid. In comparison, across the whole of the North East the bill was just £61million.
The current cost of abolishing inheritance tax would be £7billion. Critics including Gordon Brown have argued that millionaires must not be given the massive tax cut when the NHS is facing such problems. In an interview on LBC last week, Mr Brown said: “I don't think abolishing inheritance tax [is right] at a time when we are facing such huge problems in the National Health Service, social care and right across the board. There's rising poverty in our country. You can't really justify helping a few millionaires by giving them a bonus… When we've got so many problems that we've got to deal with at home.”
Mr Sunak has been silent on whether he is plotting the giveaway for millionaires. "I never would comment on tax speculation, of which there is always plenty," the Prime Minister said last week. Labour has claimed that if Mr Sunak scraps it, he would save himself £300million.
I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if this does actually happen.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak tells the BBC he "won't be forced into a premature decision" on HS2 as he faces pressure to give clarity on its future
It comes after widespread reports that the PM is poised to axe the Birmingham to Manchester leg of the high-speed rail line
Conservative mayor for the West Midlands Andy Street has said ministers must not give up on HS2 but rather "radically" rethink it
Sunak said the government had "absolutely not" given up on HS2 but that "it's not the only thing we're doing"
Questions over the project, hit by delays and ballooning costs, have overshadowed the Conservative Party conference, now in its third day
Andy Burnham, the Labour mayor of Manchester - where the conference is taking place - said the reports were "profoundly depressing"
I am of the opinion that Sunak is a liar and the decision has already been taken but he wants to save himself the embarrassment of making the announcement during the Tory Party Conference which just so happens to being held in the very city (Manchester) it will effect the most.

SAYING SORRY TO INDIA: REPARATIONS OR ATONEMENT?
SHASHI THAROOR
https://journals.law.harvard.edu/ilj/wp-content/uploads/sites/84/Tharoor-Reparations.pdf
The policy of colonialism pursued by the imperial powers of the West destroyed nations and bankrupted civilizations. In their pursuit for wealth and power, the most inhumane acts and atrocities were committed by the colonialists. British rule in India is a stark example of the destructive impact of colonial greed. India was a thriving economy prior to its colonization by Britain, contributing 27% of global GDP in 1700. Post two centuries of exploitation by the British, India’s contribution to the global economy drastically reduced to 3%. 2 India was a great exporter of finished cloth, but with the advent of the British, its textile industry was crushed and it became an importer; India’s share in the global textile trade went from 25 percent to less than 2 percent.3
It is estimated that 35 million Indians died of starvation in British-created and mismanaged famines. 4 The most famous example was, of course, the great Bengal famine during the Second World War when 4 million people died because Winston Churchill deliberately, as a matter of written policy, proceeded to divert essential supplies from civilians in Bengal to Europe as reserve stockpiles to use in the event of a possible future invasion of Greece and Yugoslavia. 5 In the Orissa famine, over a million and a half people starved to death as the British exported 200 million pounds of rice to Britain. 6 William Digby pointed out that in the entire 107 years from 1793 to 1900, only an estimated 5 million people had died in all the wars around the world combined, whereas in just ten years, 1891–1900, 19 million had died in India in famines alone.7
In World War I, one-sixth of all the British forces that fought in the war were Indian. 54,000 of them lost their lives in that war, 65,000 were injured, and another 4,000 remained missing or were imprisoned. Indian taxpayers had to cough up 100 million pounds in that time’s money. India supplied 17 million rounds of ammunition, 600,000 rifles and machine guns, 42 million garments were stitched and sent out of India, and 1.3 million Indian personnel served in this war. India had to supply 173,000 animals, 370 million tons of supplies, and in the end the total value of everything that was taken out of India amounted in today's money to 8 billion pounds sterling. 8 During the same period, India was suffering from recession, rising poverty and hunger. In addition, 2.5 million Indians fought in World War II.

Britain's total war debt to India at the time of Independence was a whopping 3 billion pounds.9
The trauma created by colonialists in Africa, especially through the transatlantic slave trade, is another illustration of the destructive impact of colonialism. Therefore, it is only natural that the former colonies, such as the Caribbean States in exercise of their sovereign powers, have called for reparations for the crimes committed against them. 10 Ironically, when slavery was abolished, the only compensation paid was to slave-owners for the “loss” of their “property,” rather than to the slaves themselves.
The concept of reparations gained relevance post World War II, especially after Germany agreed to provide reparations to the victims of the Holocaust. Reparations is an act of atonement for the atrocities committed, founded on moral as well as legal principles. The obligation to provide reparations arises when a violation of international law takes place and it continues till a substantial step is taken to atone for the violation. It is not an act of charity, rather a principle founded in international customary law, which was eventually codified in Article 75 of the Rome Statute. As early as in 1928, the Permanent Court of International Justice in the landmark The Factory at Chorzów case, held that “reparation must, as far as possible, wipe out all consequences of the illegal act and re-establish the situation which would, in all probability have existed if that act had not been committed.” 11 The Permanent Court held that the obligation to provide reparations for an illegal act is a “general principle of international law.” 12 Principle 8 of the Declaration of Basic Principles of Justice for Victims of Crime and Abuse of Power, 1989, passed by the UN General Assembly, states that offenders should make fair restitution to their victims. 13 It may be argued that the principle of reparations has its roots in the common law principles of restitution and unjust enrichment, even though in essence, reparations goes far beyond mere financial payments. Reparations, in its truest sense, involves the elimination of structures created by the colonial atrocities, as well as the acceptance of the moral responsibility for the crimes committed.
The legal basis of reparations has been reinforced through certain judicial proceedings in the recent past. In 1947, the Dutch massacred the majority of male members in Rawagede, Indonesia during the Indonesian War for Independence. In response to a case initiated by the family members of the victims, The Hague Court of First Instance held that the Government of Netherlands was responsible for the crime and ordered the Government to provide

reparations to the Indonesian victims. 14 The Court dismissed the argument that the cause of action was barred by the statute of limitations, especially due to the gravity of the atrocities committed as well as due to the admission of the crime by the State. Similarly, in Ndiku Mutua & Ors v. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office, 15 a case seeking reparations was brought against the Government of UK for the British atrocities during the Mau Mau Uprising in the 1950s in Kenya. Justice McCombe ruled that there was ample evidence of systematic torture by the British forces, and therefore a substantial case for reparations. Similar to Rawagede case, the judge used his discretion to waive the limitation period, stating that the victims would not have been able to bring the case earlier owing to lack of prior historical scholarship. 16 The British Government eventually agreed to pay £19.9 million in damages.17
Many of the British crimes committed in India, from the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in which over 1,000 innocent people, including women and children, were shot dead by the forces of Col. Reginald Dyer, to the man-made Bengal famine of 1943, can be categorized as crimes against humanity, for which reparations are due. One of the probable arguments against the legal basis to seek reparations for colonial crimes is that the law cannot be applied ex-post facto to criminalize acts which were legal under the colonial regime. It is similar to the arguments of the Nazis during the Nuremburg trials who argued that the Holocaust at the time of its commission, under German law, was legal. However, the Nuremburg Tribunal upheld the position that the maxim nullum crimen sine lege allows for punishment of actions, even though they were not necessarily strictly prohibited under law at the time of commission, if it is shown that it would be unjust if those who committed such actions are allowed to go unscathed. 18 Even if the crimes were not perpetrated by the present Government of the UK, the liabilities of the British Raj very much rests with the UK, in line with the judgment of the ICJ in Bosnia v. Yugoslavia 19 wherein it was held that the democratic governments are responsible for the crimes committed by its undemocratic predecessors.
The very essence of a colonial economy rests on the exploitation of the colony, which is enforced through a greater or lesser degree of brutality, depending on the coloniser. Therefore, all colonial powers are ipso facto liable to provide reparations to the exploited former colonies. However, as a matter of practice to ensure that the ends of justice are met, a

strict positivist application of law should be avoided while adjudicating matters of mass crimes. Legal regimes which sanctioned such crimes lack the inner morality of law; as the maxim lex iniusta non-est lex states, an unjust law is no law at all. The absence of an express prohibition of certain acts also should not be mounted as a defence, as human actions are to be measured by certain universal standards expected of a civilized society, and not merely the text of statute books.
The resistance to the concept of reparations on the ground that it would open a Pandora’s box is belied by the experience in history. The claim for reparations is not a new concept. Germany provided reparations to the victims of the Nazi regime. 20 Reparations were also provided to Japanese Americans who were wrongfully arrested and detained during World War II by the US forces post the passage of the Civil Liberties Act of 1988, and Australia provided reparations to the aborigines for appropriating their land during the 18th century. 21 Italy and Libya also signed an agreement whereby Italy agreed to provide reparations to the tune of $5 billion for the crimes committed during the colonial Italian rule in Libya. 22 By practice, the most successful claims of reparations are ones enforced through mutual agreements, rather than traversing the long judicial line to seek justice. Countries which exploited their former colonies owe a moral responsibility to take the initiative to frame such agreements rather than be forced to do so through the demands of the former or through the writ of a Court.
There is, nonetheless, a different aspect to the question – the practical one. While I am convinced about the wrongs inflicted on colonial subjects by the British empire, I have argued that India should be content with a symbolic reparation of one pound a year, payable for 200 years to atone for 200 years of imperial rule. I have suggested that atonement was the point, rather than cash. Indeed, the attempt by one Indian commentator, Minhaz Merchant, to compute what a fair sum of reparations would amount to, came up with a figure so astronomical – three trillion pounds in today’s money23 — that no one could ever reasonably be expected to pay it. (The sum would be larger than Britain’s entire GDP.) I have gone on to say that atonement should take three forms: teaching unvarnished British colonial history in UK schools, setting up with British tax money a museum to colonialism in the Imperial capital, and above all, expressing an apology to the victims of colonialism. (A suitable opportunity looms on the centenary of the Amritsar Massacre on April 13, 2019).

Reparations are not a substitute for the trauma and the horrors caused by colonialism, because the agony suffered can never truly be removed through damages, nor can the value of the human lives lost because of colonial indifference or brutality be accurately computed. It is rather a moral obligation which the West owes to its colonies as the wealth and the economic success of these former colonial powers were built on the broken backs of their colonies. The payment of reparations offers a semblance of justice as well as expiates a legal and moral obligation which cannot and should not be ignored.

Indians want King Charles III to return Kohinoor, a massive 105-carat diamond worth $591 million
By South Asia correspondent Avani Dias and Som Patidar in New Delhi
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-09-17/indians-want-kohinoor-diamond-back-from-king-charles-iii/101430400?utm_campaign=newsweb-article-new-share-null&utm_content=link&utm_medium=content_shared&utm_source=abc_news_web
As news broke of Queen Elizabeth II's passing, one word started trending on Twitter in India: "Kohinoor".
It is the name of the most expensive diamond in the world and has a long history with the royal family, having been worn on crowns by generations of queens.
Most recently it was just one of 2,800 stones set in the crown made for King Charles III's grandmother, the Queen Mother.
But there is some debate over whether the 105-carat oval-shaped diamond belongs to the House of Windsor.
The precious diamond has been fought over for centuries, so much so that British royal legend says the diamond will bring bad luck to any man who wears it.
Indians believe it came from the south of their country, in what is now modern-day Andhra Pradesh.
Now, with the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, many in the country are ramping up the campaign for the $591 million jewel to be sent back to them.
"On behalf of Indians, we want our Kohinoor back," one Indian Twitter user posted just eight minutes after the official announcement the Queen had died.
As Indian YouTubers, Bollywood stars, the business community, filmmakers, and academics join the online push, it has brought back memories of how the diamond was acquired.
The complicated history of the jewel in the crown
The earliest record of the diamond is believed to date somewhere between the 12th and 14th centuries.
"Probably originating from the Golconda mines in central southern India, the diamond has had a turbulent history," the Historic Royal Palaces, which manages the Tower of London where the Kohinoor lives, says.
The Kohinoor was then claimed by Mughal Islamic emperors, Sikh maharajahs, and emirs of Afghanistan.
By the 1800s, it was in the hands of Sikh maharajah Duleep Singh.
At 11 years old, he was leading modern-day Punjab — one of the last parts of the subcontinent, which had not yet been colonised by the British.
Under Queen Victoria's reign, the British eventually colonised the region in 1849 after two bloody wars, leading to thousands of deaths in the subcontinent.
The Kohinoor was part of the peace deal signed between the infant emperor Singh and the British.
"The gem called the Kohinoor … shall be surrendered by the Maharajah of Lahore to the Queen of England," the third clause of the peace treaty said.
The diamond was presented to Queen Victoria in 1850 and today sits on display as part of the crown jewels in the Tower of London.
The British say the diamond was surrendered, but Indians say it was stolen.
This is not the first time India has asked for the diamond back
In 2000, Indian parliamentarians signed a letter to Britain calling for the Kohinoor to be given back.
"Britain owes us," prominent Indian MP Shashi Tharoor has said.
"But, instead of returning the evidence of their rapacity to their rightful owners, the British are flaunting the Kohinoor on the Queen Mother's crown in the Tower of London.
"It is a stark reminder of what colonialism truly was: shameless subjugation, coercion, and misappropriation."
The campaign for the diamond's return increased again in 2013 when then UK prime minister David Cameron visited India.
"If you say yes to one [request], you suddenly find the British Museum would be empty. I am afraid to say, it is going to have to stay put," he said.
India is not the only country that lays claim to the diamond. Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran all say the Kohinoor should be returned to them.
But the royal family claims it is its property, though it acknowledges the diamond "probably" originated in India.
Britain's colonial past has left 'wounds still in our hearts'
The British ruled India for 200 years, until 1947.
Last month, India celebrated 75 years of independence from British rule.
Jyoti Atwal, a historian at New Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University, says campaigns like this are about reclaiming the country's identity.
"These become symbolic movements to assert that we have been a nation which has owned something," she says.
"And the other nation owes something to us."
Alongside the Kohinoor campaign, calls have also re-emerged for the royal family to apologise for a massacre of pro-independence protesters in Amritsar, on India's north in 1919.
British troops fired on the unarmed and peaceful protesters, in what became a major turning point in India's independence movement, solidifying major public sentiment against the royal family.
Queen Elizabeth II visited India three times during her life, including most recently in 1997 when she went to the massacre memorial.
Mahesh Behal, whose grandfather Lala Hari Ram Behal was killed at Jallianwala Bagh, held a protest during the Queen's visit along with the families of other victims who were calling for an apology.
"We protested when the Queen visited the Jallianwala Bagh memorial, we were holding black flags when she was about to enter the memorial, but police arrested us and then the Queen entered the memorial," he says.
"She did not say a single word to us, nothing at all. Our family members were martyred.
"The wounds are still in our hearts, the wounds remain.
"We wanted the Queen to apologise on the behalf of England."
The Queen's visit was just after Princess Diana's death in October 1997.
She was hoping to improve Britain's reputation in India, while marking the 50th anniversary of the country's independence.
During the visit, she made an unusual acknowledgement of Britain's dark and colonial history.
"It is no secret that there have been some difficult episodes in our past," she said in a banquet address.
"Jallianwala Bagh is a distressing example."
The Queen and Prince Philip also visited the massacre site and laid a wreath at the memorial, but that was not enough for the victim's families.
"It's sad that she died," Mr Behal says.
"Now we demand the new King complete the Queen's unfinished work and apologise to the entire country and the martyrs."
"They must apply ointment on our wounds … Now we hope her successor will understand our pain and apologise."
Will King Charles III address the wrongs of the past?
Queen Consort Camilla will be the next to wear the crown which was worn by Queen Elizabeth and features the Kohinoor diamond.
She will reportedly wear it at her husband's eventual coronation.
"That will again rake up a demand for bringing it back," Professor Atwal says.
"When we visit [the] Tower of London where it is kept, all South Asians who are visitors who come to England have to pay to see the Queen's jewellery, diamond possessions, especially the crown of Queen Elizabeth.
"It's an issue which will keep coming up again, and again."
Academics like Professor Atwal believe King Charles will have no choice but to adapt to the times, confront the past and apologise for Britain's role in historical events.
"I think [the 1997 visit] basically paved the way for another visit later on," she says.
"It has paved the way for something more.
"When King Charles returns to the place he will again have to address that moment which was incomplete at that point.
"King Charles will have to look at this new phase of anti-colonialism because anti-colonialism has changed its face now.
"It brings back new memories, there is a new knowledge that is being imparted to the people so this anti-colonialism will be very different for the British monarchy to face."

Humza Yousaf has been labelled a “national embarrassment” after failing to condemn Hamas for their attack on Israel.
The SNP First Minister was slammed for giving a weak response to the ongoing situation in the Middle East.
Yousaf, who has been a staunch critic of Israel in the past, posted online to say: “My wife Nadia and I spent this morning on the phone to her family in Gaza.
“Many others in Scotland will be deeply worried about their families in Israel and Palestine. My thoughts and prayers are very much with those worried about loved ones caught up in this awful situation.”
The First Minster did repost a tweet from Westminster Foreign Affairs spokesman Brendan O’Hara. Who said: “The scenes we are witnessing from Gaza and Israel are deeply disturbing.
“Along with the rest of the international community, we condemn the actions of Hamas, just as we condemn the killing of all innocent civilians, be they Israeli or Palestinian.”
However, the First Minister was slammed for failing to personally condemn Hamas and for not taking sides in a post considered by many to be too neutral.
A number of Tory MPs called him out for his neutral tweet.
MSP Stephen Kerr said: “Humza Yousaf has failed to call out Hamas for what they are: terrorists. He’s an embarrassment to our great nation. Scotland deserves better!”
Former Scottish Tory leader Jackson Carlaw added: “Ongoing Hamas terrorism tonight in Israel is beyond disgusting. The limp response of Scotland’s FM (it’s not some natural disaster but an act of vicious terror) & the bewildering lack of any response from Kirsten Oswald is a complete abdication of leadership. Shameful.”

Labour's shadow energy secretary Ed Miliband outlines the party's plans for green energy, in a speech to the party's conference in Liverpool
He says Labour will double onshore wind, treble solar power and quadruple offshore wind if it wins power in elections expected next year
Earlier, shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves said the party was "ready to serve" and a Labour government would stick to "iron-clad fiscal rules" and "rebuild Britain"
An overhaul of planning rules would speed up green energy and 5G projects, she said, and would provide thousands of new jobs
She also promised to introduce a "genuine living wage", an inquiry into the aborted HS2 project, and to make private schools pay VAT
But the grassroots left-wing group Momentum called the speech "disappointing", while Chancellor Jeremy Hunt said Labour's plans would fuel inflation
Reeves's plans were endorsed by the former Bank of England governor, Mark Carney, who said it was time to put her ideas into action.

When Corbyn was leader of the Labour Party this idiot was his right hand man so no surprises here.
John McDonnell fails to condemn terror attacks at Palestine campaign rally
John McDonnell failed to condemn Hamas' deadly attacks on Israel as he addressed a Palestine Solidarity Campaign at the Labour Party Conference.
Speaking at a fringe event in Liverpool, the former shadow chancellor said that he was "worried" about the situation unfolding in the Middle East and the impact on civilians.
However, he failed to address the terror attacks launch by Hamas on Israel over the weekend.
The Hayes and Harlington MP said the focus now needed to be on sorting a ceasefire.
He said: "I think our role as individuals and members of the Labour and trade union movement, and every other organisation that we can possibly mobilise as well, is to try and get some acknowledgement that the key factor now must be the protection of civilians.
"I’m so fearful, I’m so worried that what’s happening in Gaza now is that we’re seeing almost an annihilation of civilians.
"Therefore, everything we have to do now is to mobilise both within our own country, but internationally as well, to try and put pressure on the international community now to ensure that the attacks on Gaza end and that a form of dialogue is opened up to secure initially, at least, some form of ceasefire, de-escalation, and then hopefully the first steps to a longer-term solution.
"And I know we’ve been here so often before but I’m not sure we’ve been here on this scale of the potential loss of life, civilian loss of life in particular.

"Humza Useless" :har:
SNP leader Humza Yousaf was visibly embarrassed as he was presented with a word cloud by the BBC revealing that people associate the word "useless" with him.
The Scottish First Minister, who was Nicola Sturgeon's handpicked replacement last year, was shown the word in a word cloud of things associated with him by Victoria Derbyshire who was presenting Laura Kuenssberg's morning political show on BBC.
Even before becoming SNP leader Yousaf has been dogged with the nickname "Humza Useless" after a number of gaffes as a Scottish Government minister - including driving a car without insurance when he was a transport minister.
Ms Derbyshire noted that "independence" and "Scotland" were the main words before adding: "in smaller letters underneath 'useless' but then there is also a fairness as well."
A stunned looking Yousaf had already had a car crash interview trying to justify his party's new policy on independence which would remove the need for more than half of Scotland to support it.
In response to the word cloud, Mr Yousaf said: "When it comes to a word cloud for politicians, I don't think we tend to favour particularly well across political parties.
"But people get our core message about independence is about fairness, I saw the word 'equality' is in there.
"But I'm not pretending to you that things are highly rosy, they clearly aren't there have been six months of a really difficult time for my political party."
His comments came after Labour humiliated the SNP earlier this month in the Rutherglen and Hamilton West by-election and one of his now former MPs Lisa Cameron defected to the Conservatives revealing that SNP bullying had killed her support for independence.
Professor Sir John Curtice has warned the SNP could be wiped out if the Rutherglen and Hamilton West by-election is repeated across Scotland.
There have been reports this weekend that support for the SNP is dropping so much that they are now having to pay people to deliver leaflets.
Mr Yousaf also talked about the new policy on independence he is unveiling at his party's conference in Aberdeen as he desperately tries to revive its flagging fortnes.
Criminal investigations are still ongoing into his predecessor Ms Sturgeon and her husband, the SNP's former chief executive Peter Murrell.
Yousaf claimed that his party has "had repeated mandates for another referendum" which he claims Westminster has ignored even though the one in 2014 was supposed to be a "once in a generation event".
He struggled to justify the new policy of winning a majority of seats in Scotland in a general election as being the mandate for independence.
Ms Derbyshire pressed him: "But that means you won't need 50 percent plus one."
Yousaf tried to swerve and suggested that it would "give a mandate to open negotiations" or for Westminster to give the Scottish Parliament the power to hold a referendum.
In frustration he added: "I would be happy to hold a referndum tomorrow. Bring it on. I guarantee you with would have independence for Scotland sooner rather than later."

If I was Sunak I'd give him that Independence Referendum, No politician in Scotland has ever led the Scottish majority party blindfolded to a bonfire before, the SNP will have crashed and burned in less than a year, a truly remarkable feat, even for him. :haha:
Well Sunak!, are you going to pick that gauntlet up and shove it down his throat, or are you going to cower down in the corner of your Westminster office shaking with fear. Come on man, are you a timid Mouse or a ravenous Wolf, the electorate is waiting with baited breath for the answer. :O:
What will Sunak do?, I can hear the bottles smashing from up here.
Sunak the bottler, yep, even when he has the biggest chance of all to get rid of the Scottish National Party once and for all, he goes and bottles it, this pillock will never get my vote.

Yet another Tory apparently unable to behave himself.
Parliament's behaviour watchdog has recommended Conservative MP Peter Bone be suspended for six weeks for bullying and sexual misconduct.
It follows a complaint made to the body by a former member of staff, over alleged behaviour which took place over 10 years ago.
The suspension will have to be voted on by the House of Commons to be approved.
It would trigger a recall petition that could potentially lead to a by-election in Mr Bone's Wellingborough seat.
In an exclusive statement to the BBC, the former staff member said he felt "a sense of relief and vindication" at the watchdog's findings, adding that his experience "continues to affect my life to this day".
Mr Bone has denied the allegations, calling them "without foundation".
Parliament's Independent Expert Panel (IEP) found Mr Bone broke Parliament's sexual misconduct rules by indecently exposing himself to the staffer during an overseas trip.
It also upheld five allegations of bullying, including "instructing, or physically forcing, the complainant to put his hands in his lap when Mr Bone was unhappy with him or his work".
It also found he "verbally belittled, ridiculed, abused and humiliated" him, and "repeatedly physically struck and threw things" at him, including hitting him with his hand or an object such as a pencil or a rolled-up document.
It also upheld an allegation Mr Bone "repeatedly pressurised" the staffer to give him a massage in the office. It found this was bullying, but not sexual misconduct.
Mr Bone denied the accusations throughout and appealed against its findings, arguing the investigation had been flawed.
However, his appeal was dismissed by a sub-panel, which said the investigation had been carried out correctly.
According to the report, the complainant had kept a detailed log of Mr Bone's behaviour at the time, and had submitted "compelling, nuanced and plausible" evidence.
It also found his account of events was backed up by witnesses at work, and family members with whom he had spoken about his experiences.
In a statement released on Monday after the watchdog released its final report, Mr Bone said the allegations were "false and untrue".

Any additional finance will be expected to come from Westminster despite what they say....it always has been this way.
Humza Yousaf is to pledge an extra £300m to help cut NHS waiting lists by 100,000 patients by 2026.
The first minister will make the announcement during his keynote speech to the SNP conference in Aberdeen.
It comes after delegates agreed a new independence strategy based on winning the majority of Scotland's 57 seats at the next general election.
Mr Yousaf will vow to put the economy at the centre of the party's constitutional campaign.
Mr Yousaf will tell the conference that the Scottish government will invest an extra £100m in each of the next three years to cut waiting lists by an estimated 100,000 patients by 2026, when the next Holyrood election is scheduled to take place.

The simple truth is the SNP is in decline and Humza in no way makes up for the departure of the poison dwarf.
Humza Yousaf has been humiliated at his own party conference, as he was forced to deliver his main stage speech to a half-empty hall.
Despite moving to a venue with a smaller capacity than last year, the event was still significantly undersubscribed.
The capacity of the main conference hall is understood to be around 1,300 seats - but many of them have been left empty, despite Yousaf delivering the keynote speech of the event.
Conference Halls at both Conservative and Labour conferences were packed out for the leaders' speech, with both seeing queues outside the doors.

Two By-Elections tomorrow, we might get 2 Labour wins and we might not, me thinks the Tories will win the Tamworth one but the old Mid Bedfordshire seat once held by Nadine Dorries is up for grabs. Can the Labour Party win it?, it all depends on the Tory voters, will they stay away or will they turn up?, I don't know the answer to that so we'll just have to wait and see, but if they only half turn up the Tories will win it.
This wont help the Tories cause either, a typical foot in mouth moment that they could've done without, where ever there's a politician walking the street an house is missing its idiot. Just one look at the photo tells you everything you need to know, another Tory pig who cannot be trusted.
It seems as though he's spent most of his time attending dinner parties instead of sorting out the increase of crime in his area, as a Tory MP, he will be a bleeding disaster for those constituents.
TORY candidate Festus Akinbusoye is facing questions over whether he has taken any paid leave from his taxpayer funded Police and Crime Commissioner role to campaign to win Thursday’s Mid-Bedfordshire by-election.

CRUNCH BY-ELECTION Inside battle for Tamworth, where voters predicted New Labour, David Cameron and Brexit – but will they kick Tories out?
Tamworth, a Staffordshire commuter town 14 miles north-east of Birmingham, currently has a stonking Tory majority of almost 20,000, won by disgraced MP Chris Pincher.
Tamworth is something of a Petri dish for some of the Tories’ key policies.
Immigration has come under the spotlight, as the town’s Holiday Inn Express is now home to 243 asylum seekers of 13 nationalities, including Afghans, Iraqis, Eritreans and Iranians.
Meanwhile the Government’s levelling-up agenda has seen Tam-worth receive a £22million boost from its regeneration fund to spruce up its main shopping street.
The Tories are fielding Andrew Cooper, a local councillor and former Army sniper in the Staffordshire Regiment.
Chatting in the shadow of Tamworth Castle, Mr Cooper, 41, who served in Kosovo and Iraq, told me he was as “disappointed as anyone else” over the Chris Pincher scandal.
And the dad of four said scrapping the Manchester leg of HS2 would free up cash for local rail improvements and filling potholes in the town.
As for housing asylum seekers locally, he doesn’t believe the Holiday Inn Express is the right place, adding: “It has had an impact on tourism and the economics of the town.
“A lot of people in the summer would have liked to stay at the hotel because it’s opposite the castle grounds, which is our events space, but they couldn’t get a room.”
Labour’s candidate, trade union organiser Sarah Edwards, 35, has campaigned to protect greenfield land, boost public services and tackle the cost-of-living crisis.
Despite repeated requests from The Sun, she wasn’t available for an interview.
By-election handlers sometimes keep their candidate under wraps if they think they are in a winning position.
It ensures their charges don’t come down with a last-minute case of foot in mouth.
Turning around a 20,000 majority would be a resounding achievement.

At the last general election in 2019, the Conservatives won by miles and miles in Mid Bedfordshire. Six-in-ten voters backed the Conservatives.
And by even more in Tamworth. Two-thirds of voters backed the Conservatives.
But with Labour a long way ahead in national opinion polls, when the party fails to win in a spot where it has thrown plenty at winning, the awkward questions follow for them.

Voters are going to the polls to elect new MPs in the constituencies of Mid Bedfordshire and Tamworth in England.
The by-elections will decide who replaces Nadine Dorries in Mid Bedfordshire and Chris Pincher in Tamworth after the Conservative MPs stood down.
Polling stations opened at 07:00 BST and will close at 22:00, with results expected from early on Friday morning.
Constituents in both seats will need photo ID to vote in the by-elections.

Migrants are returning to an accommodation barge amid protests at the port gates.
A coach carrying the migrants arrived at the Bibby Stockholm in Portland, Dorset, shortly before 13:00 BST.
The vessel, which has capacity for up to 500 men awaiting the outcome of asylum applications, was evacuated in August after Legionella bacteria was found in the water supply.
The Home Office said it was now "safe and secure".
The government has said "using vessels as alternative accommodation, like our European neighbours are already doing, will be better value for British taxpayers and more manageable for communities than costly hotels".

Two Nottinghamshire councillors have resigned from the Labour Party over comments leader Sir Keir Starmer made on the Israel-Gaza conflict.
Nottingham city councillor Nadia Farhat and Gedling Borough councillor Russell Whiting will now both represent their wards as independents.
The pair are part of around a dozen Labour councillors who have stood down across the country.
Sir Keir said Israel "has the right to defend herself".
He made the comments during an interview on LBC radio after Palestinian militant group Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on 7 October that killed 1,400 people.
Pressed on whether cutting off water and power supplies into Gaza would be appropriate as part of an Israeli response, he replied: "I think that Israel does have that right, it is an ongoing situation.
"Obviously everything should be done within international law, but I don't want to step away from the core principles that Israel has the right to defend herself and Hamas bears responsibility."

Jeremy Hunt is expected to stand down as an MP before the next election, according to senior Conservatives, who say the chancellor is aware he could suffer a “Michael Portillo” moment on polling day.
Hunt has already put himself forward and been selected for the new Surrey constituency of Godalming and Ash, after his South West Surrey seat was dissolved and split into two under boundary changes.
Rumours have been swirling among Surrey Conservatives and at Westminster to this effect, amid cataclysmic predictions of wipeout for several serving cabinet ministers after more than 13 years in power.

You can almost smell the fear in everything they say in the press now that the electorate are fully aware of the coming election next year.
Rishi Sunak's government will consider tax cuts if it can meet its target of halving inflation by the end of the year, a Tory cabinet minister has said.
Robert Jenrick said the PM had the "right priorities" after his party suffered two heavy by-election losses.
There is disquiet over the results among Tory MPs, with some calling for tax cuts to shore up support.
But Mr Jenrick told discontented MPs in his party they "shouldn't read too much" into the by-election defeats.
When asked if the government was listening to those voices, the immigration minister told the BBC he understood Conservatives and the public "all want to cut taxes".
"But the first task has got to be bearing down on inflation," Mr Jenrick told the Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme.
Describing inflation - the rate at which prices rise - as a "great evil", Mr Jenrick said "if we can get that under control" then "of course we will consider what more we should do" on taxes.
Tax levels in the UK are at their highest since records began 70 years ago and are unlikely to come down soon, a leading think tank, the Institute for Fiscal Studies, said last month.
In January, Mr Sunak said halving inflation by the end of 2023 was one of the government's five key pledges.

Only difference I’ve noted is most immigrants I’ve seen coming to the U.S. are family groups of men women and children arriving. I reckon a five metre concrete wall with an electric fence at the top would be far more appropriate.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak wants a 165ft (50m)-long fence around his North Yorkshire home, documents reveal.
Plans for a "timber post and rail fence" have been submitted to North Yorkshire Council to consider.
The application states it would offer a "simple visual and modest physical barrier to discourage incursion" at the constituency home near Northallerton.
The move follows a rooftop protest in August by Greenpeace, who challenged oil and gas extraction plans.
The application, lodged on 11 October, called for "a prompt decision given the simplicity of the proposals and site circumstances".

Well this should go down a treat with the electorate.
Rishi Sunak is pushing ahead with Liz Truss’s plan to axe the cap on bankers’ bonuses despite warnings that boosting bumper pay-outs for the rich is “obscene”.
Scrapping the limit on multimillion-pound bonuses for high earners is one of the only policies to survive the disastrous “Trussonomics” period last autumn.
Mr Sunak has approved his predecessor’s policy to get rid of the post-Brexit rules around capping bonuses – inherited from the EU from when the UK was still a member.
It comes around a year after former chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng first revealed plans to change the bonus rules as part of the mini-Budget fiasco which sparked market panic.
Even Boris Johnson had reportedly backed away from taking the step because he feared a huge political backlash during the cost of living crisis.
On Tuesday the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and Bank of England’s Prudential Regulatory Authority (PRA) confirmed that the current bonus cap will be lifted on 31 October.
The move – part of a bid to help London’s financial centre fend off competitors after Brexit – was immediately condemned by unions as “an insult to working people”.
TUC general secretary Paul Nowak said it was an “obscene decision”, adding: “City financiers are already enjoying bumper bonuses. They don’t need another helping hand from the Conservatives.”
The TUC boss added: “Rishi Sunak has shown once again that he is more interested in feather-nesting the super-wealthy than helping struggling families.”
Unison’s general secretary Christina McAnea argued that anyone who thinks that making bankers “even richer” will achieve anything positive “is utterly deluded”.
She said: “It’s beyond belief that the disastrous policies of Liz Truss are being reheated. She trashed the economy and everyone else is still paying the price. This won’t win public sympathy for a government in desperate need of it.”
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer previously attacked the plan as amounting to a “pay rises for bankers, pay cuts for district nurses”.

Meanwhile doing this might just win it for you, I did say "Might", you've screwed the country over too many times in the past to say "It Will Do".
I think both the Tory and the Labour Party are misreading the room once again, these Europeans are playing with a different "Rule Book" than the UK government is and, they've finally woken up and realised these Economic Migrants have been taking the piss out of us for far too long, it's took you long enough you pillocks.

I was born in Burford Oxfordshire "The Gateway to the Cotswolds", so everyone keeps bragging about, sigh, the constituency would come under Witney, I've no idea who the MP for it is, I do know he's a typical Tory prat though. :haha:
I'm going to see Aunt Priscilla in December, she still lives in Burford so she'll give me the lowdown on all the local scandal that's happened since I was last down there, it might take a couple of days as there's loads of "Bent Nail" Tories down there, country life eh, nothing is kept secret for long.

Rishi Sunak appeared to drop a major hint on the date of the next general election in a new video.
The Prime Minister shared a video on X, formerly known as Twitter, marking a year in 10 Downing Street.
The 46-second clip listed achievements since Mr Sunak has been in power, as well as his five priorities.
It then added: "So what can a country achieve in 52 weeks? Watch this space."
It suggests Mr Sunak may call a general election in one year's time in autumn 2024.

Labour in meltdown over backing for Israel: Keir Starmer faces anger of Muslim and other pro-Palestine MPs after dodging mentioning Middle East crisis at PMQs - with 150 councillors demanding he calls for ceasefire

A week in Politics is a long time Starmer, how's your day going so far?.
Firstly.
Wow, the Fence Sitting Knee Bender is being told how to run the Labour Party by his own migrant councillors, excuse me Starmer, but just how have you let this happen?. Migrants were brought in to work here, they weren't brought in here to run the bleeding country, these pillocks shouldn't be any where near any kind of governmental position, local or otherwise.
Secondly.
I didn't hear any of these muppets howls of outrage at the senseless killing of innocent Israeli citizens by Hamas, did anyone else?, do they support Hamas?, there's a very high chance of that, but we'll never know for sure. I can tell you this though, when some of these pillocks looked in the mirror on that infamous day there would have been a smiling face staring back at them.

Well, that's another one gone....never to return hopefully.
MPs have voted to suspend Peter Bone from the Commons for six weeks after an investigation found he had bullied and was sexually inappropriate around a former member of staff.
The move is likely to lead to a by-election in his Wellingborough constituency, a former Tory safe seat polling indicates could flip to Labour.
Parliament's behaviour watchdog found Mr Bone had exposed himself to an aide and physically struck him.
Mr Bone denies the charges.
The Conservative Party had already withdrawn the whip from the MP, meaning he will not be able to stand for re-election as a Tory candidate and he currently sits as an independent.

The Tory Party and the Labour Muppets should have a good read of this, and those Migrants who were demonstrating in favour of those Palestinian Hamas Terrorists should take note of it as well.
The British don't want your Terrorist supporting kind here, so it's pretty clear that you should piss off back to a country that has the same views as you and do it quickly. You can take your pick from most of the countries of the Middle East and, quite a few in Africa as well, off you go then and take those Palestinian flags with you too.
If only our Government had someone on the backbenches with some leadership qualities, unfortunately both mainstream parties have a Weasel like Sunak or Starmer leading them.

If true this could turn out to be a night of real horror.
Tory strategists have pencilled in Halloween, October 31, 2024, as the most likely date for the upcoming general election, which is enough time for the economy to pick up, according to advisers.
This comes as speculation has been growing about when the next general election could be. UK general elections have to be held no more than five years apart, with the maximum term of a parliament five years from the day it first met.
The last possible date for an election will be January 28, 2025.
The current parliament first met on 17 December 2019 and will automatically dissolve on 17 December 2024, with polling day expected to take place 25 days later (not counting any bank holidays or weekends).

Martin Reynolds - who headed the private office of the prime minister during the pandemic - has been giving evidence at the Covid inquiry.
The inquiry heard that Reynolds turned on the disappearing messages function in a WhatsApp group of top officials in April 2021
Reynolds said he could not recall why he did so, but that he may have been worried about someone leaking his exchanges to the press.
He admitted a "systemic failure" in government after the virus hit - and acknowledged was an absence of contact with the PM during a 10-day period in February 2020
Also due to give evidence today is Johnson's former director of communications Lee Cain - following a session with Imran Shafi, another private secretary.
This second phase of the inquiry is looking at political governance. No-one will be found guilty or innocent; the purpose is to learn lessons.

From German media: the UK sees the founding of a "Party of Islam", simultaneously to many Muslims turnignt heir back on labouzr because Labour said it supported Israel.
The ghosts that were once called forth are not only impossible to get rid of - they are also becoming stronger and stronger. Anyone who believes that the supposed superiority of the European natives in terms of education or civilization will keep this disastrous development in check is mistaken. This also applies to France. Sweden. Germany. Netherlands. Spain. Rational people have two great weaknesses: they tend to overestimate the power of reason and to underestimate the power of primitive brute force.
Thus already the Romans brought their empire to fall. The fall of contemporary Europe is therefore not the first of its kind.

The problem that exists when migrants do not assimilate into a new country is you become an impotent power. As you become an increasingly multicultural society it becomes more and more difficult to fashion consensus on domestic and foreign policy issues, except in circumstances of truly and widely perceived external threat. Such a consensus generally existed during WWII and even during the Cold War. It was rooted, however, not only in deeply shared democratic values, which the public sensed were being threatened, but also in cultural and ethnic affinity for predominately European victims of hostile totalitarianisms.
In the absence of a comparable external challenge. European society may find it much more difficult if not impossible to reach agreement regarding domestic and foreign policies that cannot be directly related to central beliefs and widely shared cultural-ethnic sympathies. Good luck when those 1.7 million Afghan refugees are herded your way.

Calls for Army to be drafted in for ‘million-strong’ Palestine march on Remembrance Day
EXCLUSIVE: An MP has said the planned mass disruption in central London on November 11 is "completely inappropriate".
https://archive.ph/7vbRq
An MP has called for the military to be drafted in to keep the peace in London after it emerged pro-Palestinian protestors are organising a "million-strong" march on Remembrance Day.
The Palestine Solidarity Campaign has announced it plans to continue protests in response to Israel’s Hamas retaliation.
Coaches are now being organised from northern towns like Dewsbury, Batley and Leicester, with a demand for activists to help “make this the biggest march in history”.
The planned day of the protest, November 11, will clash directly with this year’s Remembrance Day, and come a day before the annual Cenotaph memorial for Remembrance Sunday.
Despite the head of the Met Sir Mark Rowley telling the London Assembly the protestors “will not be allowed near the official events or to disrupt them”, there are serious concerns about how such a large protest can take place while maintaining peace and order.
A Tory MP has now told the Express that the Metropolitan Police and Sadiq Khan must ask for military assistance.
Crawley MP Henry Smith said: “After consecutive weekends of demonstrations where the Cenotaph and other national monuments have been grossly disrespected, it’s completely inappropriate for further protests to be held over Remembrance weekend.
“I don’t have confidence in the Mayor of London or Metropolitan Police under him to properly handle the situation given their past poor record, and call on the Government to consider deploying military assistance.”
Mr Smith added: “The fact that this even needs considering is a sad reflection on the ability so far to appropriately police what have been some appalling scenes.”
Susan Hall, the Tory candidate for Mayor of London, told the Express the planned protest will be “very disruptive to the Remembrance Sunday commemoration”.
She said: “Sadiq Khan needs to get a grip and start taking responsibility for keeping Londoners safe. These protests have already caused a great deal of anxiety, especially amongst the Jewish community, and will likely be very disruptive to the Remembrance Sunday commemoration.
“It is vital that the police have the resources and political backing they need to do their jobs, and when I am Mayor, I will ensure they always do.”
The PSC campaign called on its tens of thousands of followers to use the coming weekend to “prepare” for its Remembrance Day march.
On X, formerly Twitter, they listed dozens of locations for activists to congregate at this weekend’s protest, including eight in London.
The principal location to meet is at Trafalgar Square, just meters away from the Cenotaph where the PM and King will lay wreaths on Remembrance Sunday.
It is unclear where the protest on the 11th will take place.
The Met has caused outrage in recent weeks by defending protestors who climbed up scaffolding, set off flares and even chanted Jihad.
The force’s social media profile claimed that the chant for Jihad in fact “has a number of meanings but we know the public will most commonly associate it with terrorism”.
A post said: “We have specialist counter-terrorism officers here in the operations room who have particular knowledge in this area.”
Earlier this week the force was also filmed tearing down posters of Israeli hostages that had been put up in Edgware, North London.
Adam Ma’anit, whose own cousin is missing, said he feels a “wave of despair” when seeing posters being ripped down.
He said: “Those who tear the posters down, are silencing one of the only ways we’ve been able to keep their plight fresh in the minds of people. They are silencing our suffering and pain. For the police to be party to that is deeply distressing.”

Well done Rishi but I suspect what you may well now have done is alert the far-right of the situation.
PM Rishi Sunak has said that planned protests on Armistice Day would be "provocative and disrespectful".
There is a "clear and present" risk war memorials such as the Cenotaph in London could be "desecrated", he added.
It comes as a pro-Palestinian march is planned in London on Saturday 11 November.
Organisers said they had no plans to be near the Cenotaph and understand the sensitivity of the date.
The Met Police said it was planning a "significant" operation and was in contact with organisers, who said they were "willing to avoid the Whitehall area", where the war memorial is located.
Pro-Palestinian protests have been held in London, and other cities globally, each Saturday since the Israel-Gaza war began.
Mr Sunak said on Friday: "To plan protests on Armistice Day is provocative and disrespectful, and there is a clear and present risk that the Cenotaph and other war memorials could be desecrated, something that would be an affront to the British public and the values we stand for."
He added he had asked the Home Secretary Suella Braverman to support the police in "doing everything necessary to protect the sanctity of Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday".
Ms Braverman said there is an "obvious risk of serious public disorder, violence and damage" if a protest on 11 November goes ahead, describing it as a "hate march through London".
Several events to mark the end of World War One are typically held across the UK on Armistice Day, which is always on 11 November.
This year these include a two-minute silence commemorating the war dead, and the daytime and evening Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London, with the latter performance usually attended by members of the Royal Family.
On Remembrance Sunday, which this year falls on 12 November, thousands of servicemen and women usually march past the Cenotaph war memorial in central London, where military veterans are joined by senior politicians and members of the Royal Family.
The 11 November protest is expected to call for a ceasefire on the Gaza Strip.
Organisers said they were aware of the importance of the date, and their previous demonstrations had been peaceful and orderly.
Ben Jamal, director of Palestine Solidarity Campaign, said it had "made clear that we have no intention of marching anywhere near Whitehall out of respect for events taking place at the Cenotaph".
He added the march will begin almost two hours after the silence of commemoration for the war dead.
"Each of the protests we have called have been peaceful, orderly, and attended by hundreds of thousands of demonstrators from a diverse cross section of British society," he said, adding that "to suggest that undertaking protests well away from Whitehall is a disrespect for the war dead is an insult to those marching for peace".
Ismail Patel, spokesman for Friends of Al-Aqsa, a pro-Palestinian non-governmental organisation, said: "We definitely will not be at the Cenotaph. We understand the sensitivity of the date."
The Met said a "significant policing and security operation" would be conducted on 11 and 12 November, and that it was "absolutely committed to ensuring the safety and security of anyone attending commemorative events".
"We will use all the powers available to us to ensure anyone intent on disrupting it will not succeed," a spokesperson said.
They added that the police were aware of a "significant demonstration" planned for 11 November, but not Remembrance Sunday, and that organisers were "engaging with our officers and have said they are willing to avoid the Whitehall area, recognising the sensitivities around the date".

Met Police adviser led ‘from the river to the sea’ chant
Lawyer Attiq Malik, who chairs official advisory body for Scotland Yard, instigated ‘offensive’ slogan
By

A hard-Left activist who was filmed leading chants of “from the river to the sea” at a pro-Palestinian rally is an adviser to the police on their response to protests over the Israel-Hamas conflict, The Telegraph can disclose.
https://youtu.be/5PHxT-_7qpY?si=86t14pIhwJEQYFAW
Attiq Malik, a solicitor who has also railed against “global censorship by the Zionists”, was present in the police operations room during protests last month.
A video uncovered by The Telegraph shows Mr Malik instigating chants of “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” in 2021, a slogan described by Downing Street as “deeply offensive” to many.
The disclosure of his role is likely to further embarrass the Metropolitan Police after weeks of criticism of the force’s handling of protests at which officers took no action in response to calls for “jihad”.
It comes after The Telegraph revealed last week that Mohammed Kozbar, a prominent mosque chairman who praised the founder of Hamas, has been advising the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) as part of a “scrutiny panel” on hate crime.
The CPS is now understood to be carrying out an urgent review of the panel’s membership.
In other developments:
Ministers have urged regulators to crack down on extremist and hateful remarks by doctors, nurses, charities and academics
The Metropolitan Police said 11 arrests were made at a pro-Palestinian protest in central London on Saturday
Robert Halfon, the universities minister, told The Telegraph of an “invisible ghetto” forming on campuses as a result of Jewish students “feeling afraid to participate in everyday life”
The Metropolitan Police indicated that it could try to ban a protest planned for Armistice Day and will keep the event “under review”
Hamas put wounded terrorists on a list of those trying flee Gaza, delaying the escape of foreigners from the territory.
This newspaper can reveal that Mr Malik is chairman of London Muslim Communities Forum, which is described on a dedicated page of the Metropolitan Police’s website as a “strategic advisory body for the Met”.
Among its formal objectives are to “inform and help shape police policy and procedure at a strategic level”.
In this capacity, Mr Malik was invited to observe the Metropolitan Police’s response to protests from the force’s operations room in Lambeth, south London, last month.
Senior officers in the operations room, overseen by the “gold commander” responsible for policing each march, have been making decisions about whether particular chants or behaviour constitute criminal offences.
Mr Malik’s position as chairman of the body is not publicised by the Metropolitan Police. It is understood that the Metropolitan Police does not routinely vet advisers.
Suella Braverman, the Home Secretary, has warned that the “river to the sea” chant may “be understood as an expression of a violent desire to see Israel erased”.
She has asked police to consider whether its use in certain circumstances may constitute an offence, but the force faced criticism for taking a contrary view.
A senior Tory expressed disbelief at Mr Malik’s role, saying it raised “serious questions”.
The senior Tory said: “Does the Met really want to be seen to be associated with people who are chanting what are demonstrably anti-Semitic slogans?”
Mr Malik is a criminal defence solicitor based in Luton, who has attended previous pro-Palestinian protests as a “legal observer” and has uploaded videos to social media advising thousands of followers of their rights at protests in recent weeks.
He has appeared on the television programme 24 Hours in Police Custody, when he became known for advising clients of their legal right to state “no comment”.
He has been involved in a series of legal cases against police forces, including the Metropolitan Police. He has also repeatedly called for Prevent, the Government’s counter-extremism scheme, to be scrapped.
The Metropolitan Police declined to give details of any advice that Mr Malik might have provided in recent weeks. But his presence in the Lambeth operations room is likely to cause particular concern, given that the Metropolitan Police had said that it was in that room that its officers were making decisions about whether particular behaviour is illegal.
Online profiles state that he is a former chairman of the Luton branch of Momentum, the hard-Left group that propelled Jeremy Corbyn into the Labour leadership.
Luton protest
A video uncovered by this newspaper shows Mr Malik addressing a protest in Luton against an earlier Israeli offensive in Gaza in May 2021.
On the steps of Luton Town Hall, holding a microphone, Mr Malik stated: “We go on BBC, ITV, do we see any of this? No we don’t.
“You watch Sky News, do we see this? No. Even on social media what we’re seeing is the posts are going up on Insta, LinkedIn, Facebook, they’re getting deleted.
“What’s going on is global censorship by the Zionists, global censorship to silence us.”
He ended his address by instigating chants of “from the river to the sea”, encouraging those at the rally to respond with “Palestine will be free”.
His past criticisms of the police include stating “typical despicable behaviour by @metpoliceuk” over its handling of a vigil for the murdered Londoner Sarah Everard in March 2021.
In June 2020, he dismissed concerns about a female mounted police officer who was injured after the horse she was riding bolted and collided with a traffic light during unrest at anti-racism protests in London.
He stated: “Dismay about a police horse bolting and the police rider getting knocked of it by hitting a traffic light, why put police horses in that situation in the first place in the middle of a peaceful protest!”
A dedicated page on the Metropolitan Police website states that: “The London Muslim Communities Forum is a strategic advisory body for the Met; it brings together representatives from London’s diverse Muslim communities and senior police officers with the aim of addressing issues raised by the Muslim community and working together to provide a strategic response.”
None of its members are named.
On Oct 11, a statement by the LMCF, which was tweeted by Mr Kozbar and reposted by Mr Malik, threatened legal action if there was any attempt to ban “pro-Palestinian protests and the use of a Palestinian flag”.
Following arrests ahead of the King’s Coronation, Mr Malik wrote: “Sunak and his cronies are attempting to steamroller through a new phase of state oppression.”
Met Police response
Ade Adelekan, deputy assistant commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, said: “We talk to people from all backgrounds to ensure we understand the effect of policing on their communities.
“As part of this work, the Met supports and works with a number of advisory groups.
“It may be the case that members of these groups have views we do not endorse. Often they are strongly held. They may also be critical of the Met and policing.
“We do not take instructions from advisory groups or anyone else and we will always maintain our operational independence.
“It is right that we listen to those we serve to build a better Met.”
It is understood that representatives of other faiths were present in the operations room at the same time as Mr Malik.
Mr Malik did not respond to questions.

The upcoming King’s Speech will help build a “better future” for Britain for the rest of this century, Rishi Sunak has said.
As he prepares to unveil what is on course to be his last programme for government as prime minister, Mr Sunak said the speech would stimulate the economy and strengthen society, and suggested its legacy would last seven decades.
Mr Sunak also pledged to bring forward bills that help people feel safer “in their own communities” and instil a pride in the “place they call home” on Tuesday.
The King's Speech will be seen as an indication of Mr Sunak's priorities ahead of the general election, which must be held by January 2025.
Although Charles delivered the speech at the last state opening of Parliament last year, he was doing so in place of his mother, the late Queen.
Mr Sunak said: "This will be the first King's Speech in 70 years and the legislation we will bring forward is part of our plan to build a better future for the next 70.”

Rishi Sunak: Armistice Day pro-Palestinian protest should not take place
Story by Will Bolton
The pro-Palestinian rally planned for Armistice Day on Saturday is provocative and should not take place, Rishi Sunak has said.
The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said the Government would “carefully consider” any application submitted by the Metropolitan Police to ban the march.
Organisers say hundreds of thousands of people are expected to attend the demonstration in central London to protest against Israel’s bombardment of Gaza. It is scheduled for the same day veterans plan to gather at the Cenotaph to commemorate Britain’s war dead.
Mr Sunak’s spokesman told reporters: “The Prime Minister himself does not think it’s right for these sorts of protests to be scheduled on Armistice Day. He believes that is provocative and disrespectful.”
Protest organisers met Met Police chiefs on Monday as Sir Mark Rowley, the force’s Commissioner, continued to resist calls to block the rally.
Ade Adelekan, the Deputy Assistant Commissioner, said the force requested that the pro-Palestinian protesters cancel the rally amid a growing threat of “violence and disorder linked to breakaway groups”. However, they have refused to do so, with further talks understood to be taking place later on Tuesday.
It came as former Sir Paul Stephenson, a former Met commissioner who commanded the force from 2009 to 2011, said a final decision on whether to ban the rally “may go to the wire”.
On Tuesday morning, Sir Paul said it was “hugely regrettable that organisations thought it appropriate to march on this particular date on this weekend”, but described the decision on whether to ban it as “delicate and tricky”.
The Met could apply to the Home Secretary for a ban under section 13 of the Public Order Act 1986 on the grounds that there is a risk of serious disorder if they find that their criteria have been met.
Sources within some of the protest groups have indicated that, if the rally is deemed unlawful, they will appeal against the decision.
Sir Paul said on LBC that while he hoped the majority of protesters would comply with a ban and not travel to the capital, he doubted that would be the case.
“And of course, additionally, judgments are going to need to be made regarding the consequences of any ban and the need to police them,” he added. “Overall, these judgments may go to the wire, with responsible police leadership working hard to bring about an appeal for common sense resolution.”
https://youtu.be/-MGQ-Sn-lWE?si=e6KyUKBnZuwGF-_j
He added that the Met would have to make a decision based on the intelligence and information available and ultimately decide if the risk of violence “reaches the high bar required” to cancel the march.
Explaining his own views on whether the protest should go ahead, he said: “[The organisers] can’t really be in any doubt about the significance of the date and the risks involved. At the very least, it would seem to me to be tone deaf and somewhat insensitive.”
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Adelekan said. “Our message to organisers is clear – please, we ask you to urgently reconsider. It is not appropriate to hold any protests in London this weekend.”
The Palestine Solidarity Campaign, one of the main event organisers, said it was “deeply concerned” by the statement, adding: “The idea that it is acceptable for Israel to keep bombing and killing Palestinians in Gaza, including over 4,000 children, but not for people to protest peacefully against these crimes, is grotesque.”
It has now emerged that a number of far-Right football hooligan groups had vowed to hold a counter-demonstration on Saturday, at which clashes were feared.

Put the army on a high state of readiness if it looks like it'll approach anywhere near the level of the Toxteth riots in 81.
Not too much detail but I clearly recall grabbing one guy off the streets and as I marched/dragged him off to a van I said "See those guys up there on the rooftops"? "That gear in their hands is night vision equipment to enable them to assess what countermeasures they'll need should you lot return tomorrow night. Not that you'll be there, you'll be in a cell"
The following night they did return but not in such great numbers and I've always wondered if the guy I'd locked up actually returned himself.

No grounds to ban pro-Palestinian march, says Met chief.
A pro-Palestinian march due to take place on Armistice Day would only be banned as a "last resort", the Metropolitan Police Commissioner said.
Sir Mark Rowley vowed officers would do all they could to protect remembrance activities and Jewish communities.
While he said police could not ban static protests under UK law, they can request the power to stop a march if a threat of serious disorder emerges.
But he said the "very high" threshold had not yet been reached.
Sir Mark added that use of the power was "incredibly rare" and there must be no other way for police to manage the event.
Speaking to the BBC, the Met chief said: "At the moment, the organisers are still putting the final stages to their plans - which, to be fair to them, are some way away from the ceremonial footprint in Whitehall.
"They're putting the final touches to those, we're looking alongside that at what conditions we might need to do to reinforce the protection of critical events and of Jewish communities and the like.
"If over the next few days the intelligence evolves further and we get to such a high threshold - and it's only been done once in a decade where we need to say to the home secretary 'we think we need to ban the march element' - then of course we will do."
"But that's a last resort that we haven't reached yet. People should be very reassured that we are going to keep this all away from the remembrance and Armistice events."
He added: "There will be a protest this weekend - the law provides no mechanism to ban a gathering, a static protest, a rally, anything like that... if the organisers want that, then it will happen."
On Monday, the force publicly urged organisers to postpone the event, which is due to take place in central London, saying it would not be "appropriate".
Both Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Home Secretary Suella Braverman have criticised the timing of the march on 11 November, which thousands are expected to attend.

Me thinks he'll just have a quiet word with her to not be so outspoken in future, and there will be your answer to, has Sunak got any cojones or not. If he fires her he'll show that he has some cojones "small that they might be" a quiet word in her shell like and some Tory propaganda to go with it will show that he's bereft of any.
A win win for Suella me thinks.

This was as far as the head of the Met could probably go under the current circumstances so the weekend may yet turn out to be most entertaining but hopefully not on the Sunday.
On a personal level I'm well happy to be retired but if the far-right turn up I'll probably be regretting the fact.
The Metropolitan Police has imposed an exclusion zone around the Cenotaph ahead of planned demonstrations in London this weekend.
The force said any Pro-Palestinian protesters who try to assemble close to the war memorial would be arrested.
Rishi Sunak has urged protesters to be "mindful of the fear and distress in Jewish and Muslim communities" when they gather on Saturday.
He repeated his view the timing of the Armistice Day march is "disrespectful".
Tens of thousands are expected to take part in a pro-Palestinian demonstration in London on Saturday, which coincides with Remembrance events.
There are concerns about pro-Palestinian splinter groups that the Met says have caused violence and disorder on previous demonstrations, as well as the potential for clashes with far-right counter-protests.
The Met has set out how it intends to police demonstrations across the weekend, and will deploy 1,850 public order officers on duty on Saturday, and another 1,375 on Sunday.
An exclusion zone will be in place around the Cenotaph and a large swathe of Whitehall, which the Met says will "in effect" ban protesters from these locations and goes further than the security measures usually deployed around the key Remembrance site.

It was always going to happen, if those Hamas supporting demonstrators had been banned this weekend it wouldn't have been an issue. Soft touch policing by Mark Rowley and a Prime Minister second to everyone must be held responsible for it.
Rishi Sunak had the power to stop the demonstrations but allowed them to go ahead, you are reaping what you sow, this lot in charge have turned this country into a basket case, Well Done.

The Met Police has condemned "extreme violence from right-wing protesters" who it says set out to confront Saturday's pro-Palestinian march.
Nine officers were injured and 145 people arrested - the "vast majority" of whom were counter-protesters.
Police added while the march itself did not see such physical violence, serious offences relating to antisemitic hate crimes were being investigated.

You really couldn't make this up :)
David Cameron appointed foreign secretary and made peer in shock cabinet reshuffle move.
David Cameron has been appointed as foreign secretary as a cabinet reshuffle kicks off in Downing Street.
The former prime minister was seen entering Number 10 this morning, shortly after Rishi Sunak began changing his top team.
Mr Cameron is no longer an elected politician as he stood down as an MP in 2016, having called the Brexit referendum and his campaign to Remain losing the vote.
But the government has confirmed he will now enter the House of Lords as a life peer, giving him the opportunity to serve as a minister once more.
The shock announcement came after the sacking of Home Secretary Suella Braverman, who provoked widespread condemnation for an article she wrote in The Times, accusing the police of "playing favourites" with left-wing groups over right-wing and national activists.
It was the latest in a string of controversial remarks by the Tory MP, who is a popular member on the right of the party, including her claiming being homeless was a "lifestyle choice".

I think the Red Wall seats are going to take a battering next year, Cameron is a step backwards and Cleverly as Home Secretary makes it two, Sunak has made some poor decisions recently, but the biggest one of all is the sideways step to the left by the Tories, it's not what the Tory voters wanted Sunak.
Cameron gave the rich a 5p in the £1 tax reduction but gained it back by bringing in the Bedroom Tax, people have long memories Sunak and they'll remember Cameron throwing his Teddy out of the pram when he lost the Brexit referendum too.
Sunak only needs to bring back George Osbourne and we're right back to the days of the Tory Toffs of 2010, the Tories screwed up everything they got their hands on then and they're still screwing up today.
Don't you just want to kick them in the head?, me first, I choose Cameron. :haha:

Well, Suella certainly didn't pull any punches in her letter to Rishi.
Dear Prime Minister
Thank you for your phone call yesterday morning in which you asked me to leave government. While disappointing, this is for the best.
It has been my privilege to serve as home secretary and deliver on what the British people have sent us to Westminster to do.
I want to thank all of those civil servants, police, Border Force officers and security professionals with whom I have worked and whose dedication to public safety is exemplary.
I am proud of what we achieved together: delivering on our manifesto pledge to recruit 20,000 new police officers and enacting new laws such as the Public Order Act 2023 and the National Security Act 2023.
I also led a programme of reform: on anti-social behaviour, police dismissals and standards, reasonable lines of enquiry, grooming gangs, knife crime, non-crime hate incidents and rape and serious sexual offences.
And I am proud of the strategic changes that I was delivering to Prevent, Contest, serious organised crime and fraud. I am sure that this work will continue with the new ministerial team.
As you know, I accepted your offer to serve as home secretary in October 2022 on certain conditions.
Despite you having been rejected by a majority of party members during the summer leadership contest and thus having no personal mandate to be prime minister, I agreed to support you because of the firm assurances you gave me on key policy priorities. These were, among other things:
This was a document with clear terms to which you agreed in October 2022 during your second leadership campaign. I trusted you. It is generally agreed that my support was a pivotal factor in winning the leadership contest and thus enabling you to become prime minister.
For a year, as home secretary I have sent numerous letters to you on the key subjects contained in our agreement, made requests to discuss them with you and your team, and put forward proposals on how we might deliver these goals.
I worked up the legal advice, policy detail and action to take on these issues. This was often met with equivocation, disregard and a lack of interest.
You have manifestly and repeatedly failed to deliver on every single one of these key policies. Either your distinctive style of government means you are incapable of doing so. Or, as I must surely conclude now, you never had any intention of keeping your promises.
These are not just pet interests of mine. They are what we promised the British people in our 2019 manifesto which led to a landslide victory. They are what people voted for in the 2016 Brexit Referendum.
Our deal was no mere promise over dinner, to be discarded when convenient and denied when challenged.
I was clear from day one that if you did not wish to leave the ECHR, the way to securely and swiftly deliver our Rwanda partnership would be to block off the ECHR, the HRA and any other obligations which inhibit our ability to remove those with no right to be in the UK. Our deal expressly referenced "notwithstanding clauses" to that effect.
Your rejection of this path was not merely a betrayal of our agreement, but a betrayal of your promise to the nation that you would do "whatever it takes" to stop the boats.
At every stage of litigation I cautioned you and your team against assuming we would win. I repeatedly urged you to take legislative measures that would better secure us against the possibility of defeat. You ignored these arguments. You opted instead for wishful thinking as a comfort blanket to avoid having to make hard choices. This irresponsibility has wasted time and left the country in an impossible position.
If we lose in the Supreme Court, an outcome that I have consistently argued we must he prepared for, you will have wasted a year and an Act of Parliament, only to arrive back at square one.
Worse than this, your magical thinking - believing that you can will your way through this without upsetting polite opinion - has meant you have failed to prepare any sort of credible Plan B.
I wrote to you on multiple occasions setting out what a credible Plan B would entail, and making clear that unless you pursue these proposals, in the event of defeat, there is no hope of flights this side of an election. I received no reply from you.
I can only surmise that this is because you have no appetite for doing what is necessary, and therefore no real intention of fulfilling your pledge to the British people.
If, on the other hand, we win in the Supreme Court, because of the compromises that you insisted on in the Illegal Migration Act, the government will struggle to deliver our Rwanda partnership in the way that the public expects.
The Act is far from secure against legal challenge. People will not be removed as swiftly as I originally proposed. The average claimant will be entitled to months of process, challenge, and appeal. Your insistence that Rule 39 indications are binding in international law - against the views of leading lawyers, as set out in the House of Lords - will leave us vulnerable to being thwarted yet again by the Strasbourg Court.
Another cause for disappointment - and the context for my recent article in The Times - has been your failure to rise to the challenge posed by the increasingly vicious antisemitism and extremism displayed on our streets since Hamas's terrorist atrocities of 7 October.
I have become hoarse urging you to consider legislation to ban the hate marches and help stem the rising tide of racism, intimidation and terrorist glorification threatening community cohesion.
Britain is at a turning point in our history and faces a threat of radicalisation and extremism in a way not seen for 20 years.
I regret to say that your response has been uncertain, weak, and lacking in the qualities of leadership that this country needs. Rather than fully acknowledge the severity of this threat, your team disagreed with me for weeks that the law needed changing.
As on so many other issues, you sought to put off tough decisions in order to minimise political risk to yourself. In doing so, you have increased the very real risk these marches present to everyone else.
In October of last year you were given an opportunity to lead our country. It is a privilege to serve and one we should not take for granted. Service requires bravery and thinking of the common good.
It is not about occupying the office as an end in itself.
Someone needs to be honest: your plan is not working, we have endured record election defeats, your resets have failed and we are running out of time. You need to change course urgently.
I may not have always found the right words, but I have always striven to give voice to the quiet majority that supported us in 2019. I have endeavoured to be honest and true to the people who put us in these privileged positions.
I will, of course, continue to support the government in pursuit of policies which align with an authentic conservative agenda.
Sincerely
Suella Braverman

So what are you going to do now Rishi after the Supreme Court have ruled your asylum seeker plan is unlawful?
Rishi Sunak says the government is working on a new treaty with Rwanda, after the government's asylum seeker plan was ruled unlawful.
Sunak also says he is "prepared to change our laws" if necessary.
He was speaking after the Supreme Court rule against the plan to send asylum seekers to Rwanda, saying it's unlawful.
The government had said the plan would deter people crossing in small boats across the Channel.
Once in Rwanda, people could claim asylum there, return home, or seek asylum in a third country - but not the UK
But Lord Reed, president of the Supreme Court, said there was a "real risk" asylum seekers could be sent from Rwanda to the places they fled from.
Labour's Keir Starmer says the Rwanda proposals have been a "ridiculous, pathetic spectacle"

Rishi Sunak says he will introduce emergency legislation on the Rwanda asylum plan, after the Supreme Court ruled the scheme was unlawful.
The prime minister says the legislation will "confirm Rwanda is safe", after the court said there was a "real risk" people could be sent back to places they fled from.
Sunak says change is needed to prevent the "merry-go-round" of legal challenges the government has faced over their flagship policy.
Earlier, Sunak said the government was already working on a new treaty with Rwanda.

Rishi Sunak gloats about inflation fall that's nothing to do with him as millions suffer.
Rishi Sunak crowed over inflation falling, even though it had nothing to do with him and millions still struggle with the cost of living.
The PM gloated “we’ve done it” after the consumer prices index dropped sharply last month, from 6.7% to 4.6%. Mega-rich Mr Sunak pledged in January – when inflation was 10.7% – the Government would halve it this year. But the Office of National Statistics said the main reasons were a drop in energy prices and Bank of England rate hikes – both outside Government control.
Paul Johnson, director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, said: “The job of cutting inflation is for the Bank of England.” He branded the PM’s January pledge “opportunistic” given inflation was expected to fall anyway. Others said the cost of living misery is far from over for very many families.
While inflation has fallen year-on-year, it is still 16% higher than two years ago. Energy bills are nearly 50% above where the were before Russia ’s invasion of Ukraine. Food and drink price inflation has ease, but still stood at 10.1% last month. Grocery prices remain a budget-busting 30% higher than in 2021.
Inflation is still 16% higher than two years ago. Energy bills are nearly 50% up and groceries 30% more expensive than in 2021. Paul Carberry, chief executive at Action for Children, said: “It may be mission accomplished for Government but prices continue to rise and the choice of what to go without becomes more brutal.”
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation said in October, 5.9million households went hungry and a quarter borrowed money. JRF chief analyst Peter Matejic said: “The people who had to take on debt in order to eat, or the people who took something they cherished to a pawnbroker just to buy warm clothes for their children, are not feeling the financial security Rishi Sunak promises.
“They live in a world where their income, in many cases, simply doesn’t cover costs while the Government talks about cutting their support further.” Labour’s shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves said now was not the time for Conservative ministers to be “popping champagne corks and patting themselves on the back”.
The ONS said “core” inflation - which strips out volatile factors and is closely watched by the Bank of England - eased to 5.7% With wage growth slowing, economists believe the Bank will start cutting interest rates by the middle of next year.

Sir Keir Starmer said Jeremy Corbyn’s “days as a Labour MP are over” as he condemned the former leader’s repeated refused to call Hamas a terrorist organisation in an interview.
The Labour leader said his predecessor – stripped of the party whip in 2020 – “won’t stand as a Labour MP at the next election or any election”.
Mr Corbyn had been repeatedly asked on Talk TV’s Piers Morgan Uncensored programme this week if he thought Hamas was a terror group.
But the independent Islington North MP, an outspoken critic of Israel, continually avoided the question and attempted to move the conversation on.
Mr Corbyn later told Times Radio: “Of course it [7 October] was a terror attack and it was an awful attack.”
Sir Keir – who served in Mr Corbyn’s shadow cabinet – said he was “taken aback and shocked” by the left-wing stalwart’s refusal to describe Hamas as a terror outfit in the TalkTV interview.
“It reaffirmed in me why it is so important to me and to this changed Labour party that Jeremy Corbyn does not sit as a Labour MP and will not be a candidate at the next election for the Labour party,” he continued. “That is how far we have changed as the Labour party.”
Asked whether Mr Corbyn’s interview with Morgan would preclude him from standing for Labour again, Sir Keir: “He won’t stand as a Labour MP at the next election or any election. His days as a Labour MP are over. We have a changed party.”
