Ok. just reloaded the game and as always via Commander. Opened correctly back at Lorient. Requested transfer to training base, this time worked properly and am now at Danzig with a new VIIC. Have no idea what I did wrong...if anything. In any case, now seems like things are working properly. So, now underway with a new vessel.

Hi all!
I hope this finds you all safe and well. This is my first post, so I hope I am in the right place.
I have very recently install the brilliant LSH3_2022 Mod, and having completed the Training I was really looking forward to working through the 40 Missions. To my dismay there isn't a Mission to be seen.
As per the Installation Guide, there are two seperate installations of LSH£, one for Careers, and another for Single Missions. The licensed Steam version is located in the 'steam library' folder, whilst both LSH3 iterations are on the same drive, but not in the Steam folder. Te drive is a PCSI SSD, not containing the operating system. LSH3 installed without a hitch, and played flawlessly.
'LSH3-2022_Single-&OnlineMultiMissions_NoCareer' was installed using the included 'LSH3 Mod Archive Manager - and of course activated.
I am at a loss here (not the first time ... probably), so any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi Splug after six year silent run the Steam version of SH3 is ok for stock but if you have other steam games in your steam games folder then it causes problems with SH3 but no worries help is at hand Sir
Your Steam version of SH3 is now longer needed I installed SH3 from dvd then i zipped it up with 7zip and uploaded to my mediafire site

Hi SamJoDo are you playing single missions or the campaign if you playing the campaign are you out on patrol in the Atlantic when you find a ship or convoy press the <> keys to the right of the M key and it should zoom into the ship in gods eye mode then you see the flags on ships also a screenie of your activated mods would be good you should be seeing flags on ships when you get close enough or in god eye mode.

Thank you very much for your reply, and apologies for my slow response - I've been thoroughly engrossed in LSH3 ...
It is apparent that my brain has likely been affected by far too many years at sea, water-logged and damaged by incident to the extent that my retired iteration is little more inspiring than a Seaslug. Certainly not the SAM iteration, leeaning toward the sunk version I guess.
All that in mind; it transpires I firstly named the dual installations, Career and Single Player Missions (a sad loner you understand) in reverse.
Secondly; I failed miserably to follow simple instructions, despite reading them twice, to launch 'LSH3-2022 Mod Archive Manager' before using JSGME.
Once installed properly, as per clear instruction, LSH3 is firing on all cylinders and we are full ahead.

Now, SH4 is a completely different animal. I've tried every combination of compatibility options existing to-date, but she refuses to fire up. Before I climb into the scavenge spaces, I shall seek out the appropriate pages to scribe my woes.

I note that the DF antenna can be raised and lowered using SHFT +V/Ctrl +V keys. I do not notice any change in the sonar signal I hear in the sonar room. That is, it is not stronger with the DF antenna up than it is with the DF antenna down. Perhaps the movement of the antenna is merely a nice graphical feature and is not meant to have a functional impact on the sonar signal. Or maybe it is used in some Wolfpack activity that I do not participate in.

1. Maybe my query re: the Df antenna was poorly worded. It was actually a question - whether the position of the antenna influences the signal strength of the contact. Does it? It seems not to do so in my limited experiments.
2. If one wants to do manual torpedo attacks, the speed of the target is critical to feed into the calculations (distance, AOB). The original SH3 manual says to look up the ship speed in the "Library" of vessels. But the listed speed rarely is congruent with the observed speed - that is, while a Ferry Ship is listed as 15 knots, it usually is observed as moving around 8 kts, when observed in the periscope in the Automatic Attack Mode (or whatever the proper term is). Should we conclude that the listed speed is max speed and not usual and customary speed and therefore is actually useless? That means for manual mode torpedo attack one needs to use the stopwatch and measure distance travelled over, say, 5 minutes then pull down the calculator at the top to read off the speed. Am I right about this?

As I understand in LSH mini manual UZO and Deck Gun should also be not stabilized (if I choose option in game settings "No stabilization view")? But in my games UZO and deck gun are stabilized, is this something wrong? How can I make it work?

I'm not the one to answer your question specifically, but would make this observation - you will always have to stabilize the deck gun if you hope to hit anything. In a real-life situation, the OD on the bridge could carefully change the sub heading to modify wave induced rolling and heaving to assist the deck gun crew - in any simulation that's not really an option. Maybe you are better at this than I, but I cannot hit much of anything - especially farther than maybe 500-600 meters - unless the program stabilizes the image and I time my shots very carefully for that short moment when the gun stops heaving up and down.

Do you use Norton AV? It sounds like you need to clear your browser's history and other cache items, and re-boot the machine. Some other site is tracking you.

So i just installed the lsh 2022HD and am stuck in a violent battle with the RAOFB ring in the olc mod. it is off by a horrible degree. So are there other ways to get the ring with the logarithmic scales to work with the mod? When I last played sh3 like 2 years ago, it was quite fun.

Where do you have SH3 / LSH installed? Did you empty the Save folder after installing / activating the mod? Or use MultiSH3 (https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=5656) to create a new Save folder??

to my knowledge i installed to freash sh3 no saves or mods, the first patrol no problem the second patrol is the problem with radio antenna not going up or down

ok i figured it out. i had to increase the command nb number and the key number in command en.cfg file cause i added some extra commands
Hi all. I just installed LSH2022. Can't seem to get the full screen to work. It opens in 1024x768. My comp is set at 1920x1080. I can't figure any way to change the game resolution. I think the 1024x768 is hiding the options button. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance. :)

Hi Deputy LSH 2020 in Wide Screen ensure your screen resolution is set to 1920 x 1080 right click mouse button and on advanced graphic settings ensure
desktop resolution and Active Singnal resolution are also 1920 x 1080 ive reinstalled LSH2022 and I didnt have to alter resolution settings it did it automaticaly and LSH2022 plays in full screenyou could go into your GPU resolution settings and ensure its set to 1920 X 1080 you could use the CRU Custom Resolution ultility to the your GPU resolution to 1920 X 1080.

Blackswan40: Bad news. When I went to play the sim a second time, it reverted back to the 1024x768 small window. No matter what I change I can't enlarge it back to full screen. :(

Hi Deputy is your GPU AMD or nvidia can you set your resolution through your GPU software.
If your still having issues try this i did this on my old i5 8gig laptop with built in graphics play the video and keep stopping it so you can make notes it works and you get your games working in full screen.

I might have overlooked this, but is there a thread or list indicating exactly what is new in the 2022 version vs the 2020 version.
I have experienced difficulty in the past when updating from older versions, so before I do, it would be nice to know what the main changes are.
Can you direct me to a post or thread where this is listed, or can you list the changes quicly in a reply?

I figured it out by accident! :D I uninstalled and re-installed and this time I put the sim in the SHIII folder as a sub-folder. Works perfect. Before, I had it as a separate folder in the C: drive. Not sure why this matters, but it's fixed. :up:

Hi Deputy if you are playing a campaign activate the built in LSH2022 Commander Mod it asks you where your SH3 LSH2022 Install is once you have pointed your LSH2022 Install is then you can enter your Kapitans name flotilla Patrol Grid and uboat number war year and off you go

I play LSH 2022 and have no problem. But when I find a Convoy the DD-Destroyer behind the Convoy is with his tail half under water. I remember years ago this problem has already been raised once. But I changed from SH.5 back to SH.3 and I don´t find the solution. Can anybody help?

On my last patrol I ran across a Merchant type M12 in an easy position to attack in Quad AN16 on my way back home.
But. After 32 rounds of hi-explosive shells and 6 (yes count them six) torpedo hits it still sat there and sat and sat there...so I left. About 10 (real minutes) later I noted that it finally sank.
Now that cannot be accurate.
Someone has to look into the data for this ship model. I have no idea where that information resides, but it should be changed into something more realistic...no?

2. For no reason I can find I suddenly have no movable attack periscope. The observation scope works fine and I have made a few successful attacks using it but why does my A scope not move - it will raise and lower but not turn R or L?
The scene is set for submerged attack and all officers are at their stations for that setting. Something's amiss.

My best guesses:
1: Historical German invasion of Norway on at this time. Chance of action at Bergen very likely. :up:
2: Maybe a feature of SH-Commander malfunctions and sabotage options? May cure itself after saving and reloading. Check Silent Hunter Commander settings.

Well, but this icon is about 200 Km inside Norway in the mountains. So I doubt anyone put a ship there...maybe a designer fault?
I will look at Commander. But the problem remained after I docked on return and began a new patrol with a presumably refitted sub. I've not had this problem ever in a few decades of SH3 or its expansions.

My apologies. I was wrong. Ship icon is located deep in one of the western Norwegian fjords...not in the mountains. It is not a design error, but mine for not focusing in closely enough to get the details.
And...and...now on this patrol suddenly the attack periscope is functioning perfectly. have no idea what was going wrong, but will accept with gratefulness.
So I will now shut up and sit in the corner for 15 minutes wearing my dunce hat.

Yeah I'm not very familiar with that Commander function as I've never actually used it. But I believe the malfunctions happen at random on starting a new session (i.e starting new patrol or loading save mid-patrol), so could technically occur any time the game is loaded through Commander. Not sure that was the issue here though but good news that it's gone for now.

Its MS Edge that is causing this problem, use Firefox instead.

I want the emblems like the sawfish from das boot but i can only use emblems that are the flottilla emblem in the mod, for example i can only use the white horse emblem when i am part of flotilla at la spezia is there something im missing?

About the emblems and their is glitch where the type 2d conning tower is glitched with the IX conning tower it’s the later version of the type 2d tower the one that has the railing with the flak on top. And I can’t put emblems on the second type 2d tower

You need to add a mod for SH3 Commander with the different salvo numbers. DGUI and ARB have this mod, you need to enable it via JSGME in the SH3 Commander folder. I mean: you need a JSGME app inside the SH3 Commander folder and a mods folder inside SH3 Commander folder. I don´t remember now if LSH3 has it, I don´t have the mod installed now in my PC (I have only OneAlex GWX and NYGM FiFi edition).

During your first weddigen patrol you must not modify anything on the boat..
then you will begin your real career...and there you choose your emblems...
Your tube selector problems pay attention to the HuD chosen via JSGME...
in my memory there are no errors...as you describe...:D

you start with types II or VII okay... read a little of the documentation it will help you greatly... people don't read anything anymore... after a bunch of questions... and they cry that nothing is going well.. .the documentation is not there to look pretty...

The 2022 version is in 1080 1980...
maybe take the 2015 HuD and try...But there will undoubtedly be modifications to be made for it to work...

Currently I no longer have it installed... since the death of the designer Ariel Hurmel who left us recently... it was a shock to lose him... a great modder... who produced fantastic work. ..
But you can contact other members of the team here @blueduck @blackswan40
Remembering the thread here.. reading can also help you see...
First of all, I recommend a clean installation, strictly following the instructions given..start a career without changing anything in weddigen just the options to dificultate..

I would like to add that when we take the time to read or search on the forum we find.... after we ask the questions... thank you for your understanding... there is no point in running, you have to start at the right time.. isn't it...SH3 4 and 5 games are not easy to mod you have to read a lot of documentation before running...what do you want the assembly is cerebral it's like that...otherwise play it console...read the documentation allows you to play these mods and create a functional assembly, that's how it is :yep::yep:

I just watched the videos...during the weddigen patrol don't change anything even the crew...your waypoint all around the island. .. have you read the message of your mission...I'm afraid not!!!..otherwise you would not follow such a complicated path...

according to your request you are good for a clean installation...if you want to take advantage of this mod and don't forget to read the documents provided in the mod...

I have put together a Word document that has all the F1 control commands in an organized manner - so one can print out a document and have it at hand sitting beside the keyboard when wanted. It is handy when you want a command that is not frequently used.
How do I upload that to the community? I know that someone will one to vet it before it is 'published' to everyone. So where and how do I send it?

You could PM a moderator or Onkel Neal and ask for a bit of storage on the server here on SubSim, or upload your doc file to Google Drive, OneDrive, or similar, and then post a link to it in a new thread. The new thread with a good title for it, would better be able to point out your new file. It might be also that since it is LSH-specific, that the team might be interested in your file, and they would host it for you, so you could PM one of them and see if they're interested in what you did. :salute:

Have made some changes to my computer and have had to reload the whole thing. But where does LHS32022 store the sub commanders records? When I now load SH3 of course it defaults to the beginning of the world...er, at the 1939 campaign. Is there a way to recover the amazing records of several Kaleun from earlier hours of play? Or do I just start all over again as a rookie?

If you are referring to the progress you have made in your career, you have to have the game re-installed in the same folder, with the same mods activated, and still have all of the old data available. If you had to install a new hard drive, then on the old hard drive, it would be the old "C:\Users \UserName \Documents \SH3", unless you changed it with MultiSH3 to use a different Save folder. If you have a new "C:" drive installed, and the old drive is still available to use, when you connect it to the computer, it most likely wouldn't be "C:" drive any longer, but maybe D:, or some other letter, depending upon how many other drives you have installed. If the old data is not available, then you would have to start a career all over again, in whatever year you want to. :salute:

Thanks for the reply...am attempting to sort it all out with respect to what was done here with my computer. But to simplify...I know that SH3 used to put cumulative career data for each sub commander in a File in the Documents section of Windows. And that data was reloaded or referenced each time SH3 or Commander was opened or started for an ongoing campaign for a particular experienced sub commander.
I suspect that LSH3 does something similar and stores the same data for each sub commander's career somewhere, to be available each time it or Commander opens. But I do not know where that file is located or what it is labelled or if I can get Commander or LSH3 to open and read it.
Would one of the developers know? Please excuse if you are one of them. I don't know the names of any.
Does this clarify my question? Or just muddy the waters further.

Actually I have found the file that contains the patrol data of all my experienced sub commanders that LSH3 2022 is not finding. It is in C: Documents/V2C - all the sub commanders with their multiple patrols (some up to 20 patrols) are listed in:
C: Documents/V2C/data/cfg/Careers
Now the question is how do I get LSH32022 to find this file and read it?

I had assumed when you used "Commander", you were referring to the boat commander, and not to SH3 Commander - my bad :haha: - sorry about that. How did you fix your LSH issues? Did you do a re-install, or just copy the game files elsewhere? I do not have LSH active on my computer at this time, but if the SH3 Commander is installed with the LSH install, then you might have to copy and paste that "V2C" folder somewhere 'safe' outside of the Documents folder, then re-install LSH or SH3 Commander, then paste the contents of the "Careers" folder into the new folder structure. You might first look and see if there isn't a similarly named folder in the Documents folder that already contains the new data, and you could copy the old info into that new folder. You do have to be careful though when editing Save folders, since that can trash what you already have. Perhaps someone who has the mod installed and active on their computer will come along and offer better advice than my old memory bank... :salute:

You could try doing a PM to members blueduck or blackswan40. They should get an email notification for that. There are also other members around. Look for their "torpedo" logo in their "signature" where they post other replies.

I have installed a new, clean copy of LSH3 2022. And put the four 'veteran' sub commanders records into what appears to be the proper (maybe) C: Documents/Careers folder. And when I click on the new 2022 Commander icon, hooray, it finds them...but...teeth gnash... it then opens the old SH3 program not the desired LSH3 program. So now I ask, where's the LSH3.exe program and why doesn't the Commander program listed in the new LSH3 file find it instead of an old SH3.exe program?
Mysterious ways. I think one of the program designers/programmers could sort this out quickly. I do have a bit of trouble using the PM messaging system. Hard to find PM label/icon/whatever to click on to write a PM, even with the name of a desired recipient. Maybe I just click on the member's Name under the stuff in the Left column?...will see.
Anyway, thanks. Will keep you informed.

Commander will only accept "E:Games/Ubisoft/Silent Hunter III" as an entry and then (of course) it opens SH3 not LSH3 2022.
If I type in "E:Games/LSH3 2022" Commander will not accept that entry - I get the message "Cannot find SH3.exe in that folder" Well, that's true the SH3.exe file is in another folder...the Silent Hunter III folder. I would think that Commander would need to look for something like LSH3.exe, but nowhere do I see that .exe program in the LSH3 2022 listing.
I do not know what I should enter to satisfy Commander - it seems hung up on looking for SH3.exe And I do not remember what I entered before that made it function correctly. Maybe I just drop a copy of the SH3.exe icon into the list of files under LSH3-2022 and Commander will be satisfied and actually open LSH3 2022...but that really doesn't make any sense.
Somehow I managed to do something right earlier that made everything work perfectly for a long time. Sorry, but this aging mariner is floundering.

Hi Archive1 is your stock SH3 install in Program/Files X86 if so thats the problem install Stock SH3 outside Program Files X86 just on drive C:/ and same with LSH2022 and also the LSH2022 Built in commandermod.

So, now what? Now there is no LSH3 2022 at all on my unit and I cannot get the exe file to extract.

I have recovered my previously deleted LSH3 2022 from the recycle site, but it still crashed to DT about 30% along its opening, whether from Commander or directly from LSH3. Although it displays the proper 4 experienced sub commanders with their proper # of missions.
And the download of the new, clean LSH3 2022.exe will not open at all because of some 'password' requirement by either 7zip or Winzip, I suppose - neither of which has any password set up.
An awful start to any new year...but Happy New Year to you anyway.

I presume that means clicking on the LSH3 DOWNLOAD on the far left of your torpedo icon. That is the one I selected and downloaded from the other night. That gave me: LSH3-2022-FULL.EXE. Ok, great. But when I click on it, it demands a password. Huh. Is it compacted in some password protected version of WinZip? I usually use 7-zip and have no password setup. When I clicked again on the same LSH3 DOWNLOAD, it told me it would take 10 hours to download. A non-starter, obviously.
I do have SH3 on the same drive as the older LSH3 download that once worked without fail. And while that program seems to load from Commander or directly from the SH3 exe icon, with the proper veteran sub commanders, it crashes to DT about 30% along the loading strip. I have tried it multiple times.
This is all very frustrating, and I am at a total loss to know what is going on, and why after a very long time of no problems at all. Am a reasonably patient guy, but really!

However, they are in fact all present in the program files of LSH3 2022 that is trying to load and crashes to desktop. Why does this LSH3 2022 not find files that are actually present in its file structure?

You know, I have never seen that screen. the one that I am familiar with merely asks for "English or German"...and then loads directly.
Maybe just delete that download and do another...then see what you get. But be advised, I am not one of the LSH3 programmers or elder statesmen...just an experienced user.

There is a bigger, more serious problem here. I just tried to download LSH3 2022 from multiple LSH3 senior people, ie, Blackswan and others - by clicking on the "torpedo" icon.
And the message I get from Microsoft is: "LSH3 -2022 INSTALLATION.EXE isn't commonly downloaded. Make sure you trust LSH3 2022." and when I look for it in my C:Download folder, it is not there.
Folks we have a serious problem here, and not much activity in addressing the LSH3 website and support problems. My unaddressed difficulties are one thing...I am an old user, but ignoring Newbies will kill the whole program. Maybe that's the goal.

There is usually a "link" in the dialog box that pops up and tells you that, usually to the middle left. But I am at a loss to remember the wording, and I cannot get it to come up on my computer at the moment to refresh my memory. But you click on the link, and it takes you do another dialog, and you tell it to "Download it anyway". You can also go into Windows Defender and put the file name in the "whitelist" section.

I attempted to down load from there and my Antivirus program would not permit a download. That may be what is happening to you.

Ahhh. I thought you were encountering a Windows Defender dialog. Sorry about that... Mine usually tells me there is a potential risk, and does not delete files like that. FUBAR295's suggestion might be a solution, though it is the same file being downloaded. It is a zip file, so I do not understand why it is being deleted, unless your AV is looking inside the archive and seeing the exe file in there?? Do you know how to find the "quarantine" folder for your AV scanner app? You might be able to retrieve it there. btw - the LSH fellows lost Urmel, the former team leader/manager who died unexpectedly a while back, just before 2022 version was going to be released. The rest of the team finished the mod, and its title "The Eternal Patrol" is telling. There are several that will still drop by here, such as blueduck and blackswan40, and those are the best two to PM, especially blackswan40. Just give them a few days to reply. :salute:

If the file was corrupted during download, or restricted by Norton, then that could do your "password protected" issue. Did you try FUBAR295's download link above?

Well, I have now been able to load and run LSH3 2022. After downloading multiple versions from Fubar , most of which failed to actually survive onto my C:/Download...no criticism of Fubar...I finally got one to load and open. And I did get all the preexisting sub commanders to survive Commander's search. (Have saved over 45 patrols/missions.)
But one problem - Now all the Attack scopes raise and lower, switch from 4.5 to 10 magnification, but will not move Right to Left - i.e. no lateral movement at all. I must use the Observation scope.
Any advice why this is true? And it persists for all (repeat, all) sub commander patrols, and for all sub types.
Ok, my frustration has been very high. But I am back...sorta.

Of course is there a password-protection but this is not necessary if you just run the downloaded file!!!

Why do you download files to C:\Download - I am pretty sure a lot of virusscanners will block files which are not downloaded very often.
Go to our website (click my signature) and then open, read and follow the given PDF with installation instructions. Then download the LSH3-2022 by rightclicking the DL-Link and "save as" or "save to" to a new folder within your own documents folder. Start the downloaded EXE and follow the installation instructions given during the process.
Concerning your last problem report please post your actual MOD-List.

I don't either, but the problem persists with all sub versions and all sub commanders. And through all Patrols. The Observation scope works well and properly, so things can continue. I do start each patrol via Commander and have not tried opening one directly through LSH3. May try that and see if somehow Commander is the problem...although, again, I don't know why or how that would be true.
May see if anyone comes out of the woodwork with a suggestion.

... sort of. What I experience, both with LSH-2022, and with OneAlex, is that when launching the game through SH3Commander, my resolution defaults to 1024x768 when my screen is 1920x1080. In addition, the game loads in a window, and I cannot access any of the menu items, meaning I have to Alt-F4 and reinstall the original.
This is specific to SH3Commander (game runs perfectly fine if I do not use SH3Com), and also permanently changes the graphics on startup - hence the need to reinstall from scratch.
I do not understand why this happens as I change nothing in the whole process; looks like SH3Com installs a lower resolution mod of some kind.
Running Win11, and compatibility Win7 plus admin is set.

I just stumbled about the same issue. I installed LSH3 back in 2015 under win7 and now set up silent hunter 3+4 in win10. So i thought i'd just make a backup of the installation and extract lsh3 on top of it. Obviously LSH3-EDITION-2015-FULL.EXE looks like the right (self extracting) archive. Also depending on the content i'd want to extract the right files but i can't open it due to the password protection.
It really surprised me. Why would anyone password protect a free mod? Did i download it from some shady site back then and forgot about it? was this even the version i installed? must be since i have only this 2015 version in my archive.
It took me a while to figure out you probably did this to enforce the use of your installer.
Still i don't know why you are doing this. Should i come back to this point in another 10 years i'm pretty sure i'll go through the same procedure or just give up it. Password protected mods smell fishy. The real ones are free.

Document the password prominently in the install doc and let it be 'you really should use the installer!' to make your point. Then people like me know what they should be doing but can continue to do their own thing. Or just have a look at the archive content.
The good thing: i now know about the 2022 version and will use that :)

It is likely a "licensing" issue with the mod Bigeagle, and is their choice as mod authors to restrict certain uses of the mod, since it is, after all, offered "free"... Reducing support issues is one of several reasons, I'm sure. :salute:

I just stumbled about the same issue. I installed LSH3 back in 2015 under win7 and now set up silent hunter 3+4 in win10. So i thought i'd just make a backup of the installation and extract lsh3 on top of it. Obviously LSH3-EDITION-2015-FULL.EXE looks like the right (self extracting) archive. Also depending on the content i'd want to extract the right files but i can't open it due to the password protection.
It really surprised me. Why would anyone password protect a free mod? Did i download it from some shady site back then and forgot about it? was this even the version i installed? must be since i have only this 2015 version in my archive.
It took me a while to figure out you probably did this to enforce the use of your installer.
Still i don't know why you are doing this. Should i come back to this point in another 10 years i'm pretty sure i'll go through the same procedure or just give up it. Password protected mods smell fishy. The real ones are free.

Yes @propbeanie - you are right! The reason is (was since LSH3 2020) to reduce support issues.

Why don't you just use the installer and let him do his installation to a different directory and then "extract" the files from there?

seems that your Link to SH3-Stuff seems to be down. Do you have a new link to all the great guides you made for SH3? I just donwloaded LSH3 2022 and iam back at Sh3 now.
Looking for big Radio or Grammophon-mods for Sh3 before starting a campaign. Its recommended to not install any mods after starting the campaign in LSH3 2022. In SH5 its not a problem to change any radio or grammo-files while playing a campaing. Is this the same with LSH3 2022 or should i avoid this?

I am assuming the modders at LSH3 told Subsim to remove my LSH3 tutorial thread when they introduced the new LSH3-2022 mega mod without any consultation to me as it all suddenly disappeared, unfortunately not only did all my LSH3 tutorial and information get deleted which was not really a problem as most of it would have been out of date anyway but also all of my SH3 stuff which was in the same tutorail thread was deleted as well.

First time back here in a long, long time! Have used LSH 2015 for years, recently picked it up again and saw there's now the 2022 edition so had to try it.
Installation and everything went fine but I'm having an odd issue with my optics. The periscope and UZO sights are well off and as I play with realistic targeting etc it's going to become a headache really quickly. Don't appear to have any other issues with the resolution so not sure where the issue is or how to solve it.

Now in patrol #17 in Dec 1941. And get an assigned area to patrol as DT81. That makes no sense. It lies way south off the west coast of Africa. We all know the actual war demand action is between England and Scandinavia and on the British west coast to sink British shipping to the UK. So, are these area assignments just randomly generated by the program with no rational underlying their position? If that is the case, we may as well ignore them and hunt on our own...which makes this more of an arcade game than anything near resembling realism. I know it's a game, but then so is Pong. Aren't we supposed to be better?
I was earlier going to ask if anyone could answer if Unterseeboot Command wanted sub commanders to head directly to assigned quadrants and ignore targets enroute, or take advantage of targets as they emerged. But maybe that is just too subtle for the game.
Finally is there a group working on updating LSH3? Or is this it?

There could be a historical basis to it, depends on what Flotilla you're in. In GWX the grids are random, but from a selection of about five which the game has to choose from for a given month and year, which are usually historically plausible for a specific Flotilla. I imagine LSH3 is similar. Whilst the main area of the U-boat war was in the North Atlantic they still operated far and wide: From the Arctic Ocean, Baltic, Caribbean, Mediterranean, Black Sea, South Atlantic, Indian Ocean and even off the coasts of Australia and New Zealand. The more far away places were for the larger Type IX boats. You'll need to be economical with your fuel during transit.
Here's an example of an actual BDU KTB from WW2 showing each U-boat's position for a given day for a selected period:

The lack of proper objectives has always a limitation of SH3. In reality the U-boats were constantly micro-managed by BDU on a daily basis. One thing I like to do is use a random number generator on a separate device (laptop in my case) to help choose what grids I need to patrol next. I won't go into all the details about it but it's a nice way of simulating receiving new orders by being a little creative.
Engaging targets en route to an objective was typical and expected, though there were some occasions when they had orders not to, but those were quite rare and usually limited to special assignments.
Someone from the LSH3 team would have to answer the last question.

Superb answer. And, actually, pretty much what I thought. I generally ignore the assigned quadrants and head for what I historically believe was the most rewarding quadrant with some idea of where the heavy-use lines had to be. And sometimes, feeling like taking a chance, I head for some dangerous, but good target...like a harbor. Dangerous that but gets the juices flowing. And, yes, I play at a very high level of 'reality' - 'course that's not really 'real' since we all go to bed at night heading for a peaceful day, but you know what I mean.

Weather fix does not seem to be working - I have finished 10 patrols, all of them constant wind strength 15. Once it starts (a day out from port) the wind never dies down. Sky and fog varies, but wind (and waves) stay at 15.

Yes, I have noted the same thing. There used to be a mod around that let you set some parameters for weather. I can remember endless almost months of nothing but wild waves, heavy fog, crazy wind in SH3...no, not in LSH3...which seems to generally have a reasonable distribution of "bad" weather and clear skies. But you are right, the wind velocities are pretty uniform...forever. You need one of the developers to answer your question, not just a old hand of an SH3/LSH3 user. Then again, you might accept a good situation and let it go?
Take a look at Commander - I know there are some setting options there, but don't remember how much they influence wind speed/direction.
Dare I say "smooth sailing"?

Your comments are obviously correct, much later in the war, but not at the onset. I think we must accept that patrol assignments in the game are randomly assigned with no focus on accuracy and generally can be ignored without any negatives. Maybe you have some historical reference that makes my position invalid (?) I know of no subs assigned deep into the coast of Africa in 1941, but perhaps you have a reference that corrects me.
BTW - I grew up in Chicago and am very well aware of U-505 and visited it often.

The boat's next sortie was to the West African coast. She laid mines off Lagos and Takoradi and made full use of the failure of the allies to enforce convoy systems.

The sinking of Robin Moor caused President Roosevelt to brand Germany an "international outlaw" and to require Germany and Italy to close all of their consulates in the United States except for their embassies.[7] Before the sinking, Robin Moor's passengers and crew were allowed thirty minutes to board lifeboats, then the submarine torpedoed, shelled and sank the ship. The survivors then drifted without rescue or detection for up to eighteen days. When news of the sinking reached the US, few shipping companies felt truly safe anywhere. As Time magazine noted in June 1941, "if such sinkings continue, US ships bound for other places remote from fighting fronts, will be in danger. Henceforth the US would either have to recall its ships from the ocean or enforce its right to the free use of the seas."[8] In October 1941, federal prosecutors in the espionage case against a group of 33 defendants known as the "Duquesne Spy Ring" adduced testimony that Leo Waalen had submitted the sailing date of Robin Moor for radio transmission to Germany, five days before the ship began her final voyage. Waalen was found guilty and sentenced to 12 years in prison for espionage and a concurrent 2-year term for violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
U-69 also sank Tewkesbury about 540 nautical miles (1,000 km; 620 mi) south of the Cape Verde Islands on the same date (21 May). Her master was awarded the OBE for his actions, but never knew about it; he was lost when Newbury went to the bottom on 15 September.
She then sank Sangara in Accra harbour on 31 May 1941. The ship went down in 33 ft (10 m) of water, her bow was still visible. (The vessel was salvaged in 1943 and her cargo sold, she was broken up in 1947).
Robert Hughes was lost to a mine laid by U-69 on 4 June.
The submarine sank River Lugar 200 nautical miles (370 km; 230 mi) southeast of the Azores on 27 June 1941 and Empire Ability on that same day.
On the return journey, U-69 was engaged in what was an ultimately successful gun-duel with Robert L. Holt southwest of the Canary Islands on 3 July 1941. She fired 102 high explosive and 34 incendiary rounds from her deck gun, 220 rounds from her 20mm anti-aircraft weapon and 400 rounds from her MG 34 machine gun at the merchantman.

<shrug> I too stand by my comment. Including in '41. As to Churchill, taking most anything he said about the Battle of the Atlantic as being accurate is rolling the dice. He had a flair for being melodramatic. I'd suggest Blair's books on the subject for a much more objective view, especially concerning the myth of the u-boat's effectiveness. In short, at no time did they come even close to shutting down the North Atlantic and any boats sent south wouldn't have changed that.
As to why some u-boats were sent south, a large part of that was because the hunting was easier, more successful and less dangerous than in the North Atlantic. A lot of Allied traffic went to west African ports and around the cape of south Africa to supply forces in both North Africa and the Far East. The Mediterranean was rightly considered too dangerous for this traffic.
At times too Doenitz was *told* where u-boats would be sent, regardless of other plans he wanted to do with them. This was especially true regarding the Mediterranean.

I would not pretend to debate your accuracy, but I do think that the material I have read about N. Atlantic tonnage sunk in these earlier years (by both German and British historians) does indeed support Churchill's concerns in his many books and comments on the subject.
But all that is irrelevant.
U-subs did go south.
Some southern station orders from UBoat command would be valid.
Accepted.
But, I'll still hunt effectively in the northern waters. Since Doenitz can't touch me. And I can save fuel for long hunting periods and still get back to Lorient with more than just fumes left in the tank.

I have become tired of having no attack scope (see my earlier comments) and decided to download a fresh version of LSH3-2022 to see if the new download would take care of the problem. But...
The putative English version of the download directions are in German (as, of course, are the German directions.) That is not useful.
But also when I do download the Full.exe code into the C: Download folder. And then drag/drop it into a new E:"LSH3-2022 New" folder to extract, it does what it has done before: it wants to extract via 7-zip with a password. There is no password for 7-zip on my computer. (I have complained about this before.)
I was severely taken to task by one of your major...whatever...for not following directions. A message in all Capital letters, BTW

According to the installation manual (https://www.lsh3.com/v22/dl/LSH3-EDITION-2022-INSTALLATION_EN.pdf) you have to start the LSH3-2022-INSTALLATION.EXE, not the "full.exe"
Also the LSH3-2022-FULL.EXE is not meant to be extractet via 7zip/winrar etc.

There is no "LSH3-2022-Installation.exe" and what files are there for extraction and/or installation are fixed as 7z files. And you tell me that trying to open LSH3-2022-full.exe is not the correct one. OK, but then...?
At no time have I elected, or selected, or desired, or tried to open anything with 7z - the files as they are downloaded and opened are 7z fixed and there is no escape.
I have complained about this before and have been chastised for "trying to open these files in 7zip". That has never been my goal. But, tell me, how do I open files that LSH3 itself downloads as 7z files, especially when they are "password" locked?
I believe that FUBAR (or someone) had a link that did work and did not download a file to me that was 7z. But I no longer have his link.
Sorry for the tone, but my frustration is at a high level.

I'm doing the navigation training and during the exercise it ask to dive at periscope depth and go "ahead flank". When I press the '5' key to go 'ahead flank', the telegraph goes to 'ahead slow'. The command on the screen does state 'ahead flank'. It does appear that I'm going 'ahead slow'. I'm not able to complete the mission.
Any advise?
Figured it out. Before starting the game up I needed to unselect the 'malfunctions' option....doh!

On a routine patrol out of WH I got a "Return to base immediately. You have been chosen for a Special Mission" ...or some such. OK, returned. Nothing. Just the usual assignment to a new quadrant.
Is something mission in the programming code?

I have just downloaded it and it seems okay. But now I have a warning from my Norton that the files are infected and it has quarantined them. So it doesn't work of course. Is it a false positive? of course I don't want my computer infected.

Thank you for a very quick reply. I might download from the working website but Norton will likely find something wrong there as well. Norton can be very strange at times seeing things that aren't there.

Thank you for your reply I appreciate it. As soon as the absent friends message disappears in stead of being in port I am hurtling to the bottom. Over in seconds nothing I can do about it. Then I'm informed I have sunk in a collision. I tried the training missions the navigation one ends with the same result. But the artillery one did start with no collision. But one small problem I am 30 meters under the sea and I can't surface the boat but at least it hasn't sunk. Using the free view is really weird it's like a psychedelic movie from the 60's I felt I was tripping. I hope you can help me but I think something serious is wrong with my game.

Hello, I have the exact same problem - when starting LSH3 2022, the game starts windowed in 1024x768. I followed the installation instructions (rather commands :)) precisely. My setup:
-SH3 from Steam, I selected the steam game folder
-Windows 10
-Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 on an old, but still pretty fast gaming PC
I added two screenshots to illustrate my problem: I can't see the "commanders class" option and can't continue on the "CAPTAINS" screen. I suspect there is a button which is only visible on the higher resolution.
Any help available on this?

im using dgui for lsh3 2020 and was wondering is there a way i can have a slideout or pop up of a big compass on screen, he one now is small and hard to see numbers

I have noticed that many times tubes 2 and 3 only fire slow torpedoes, while 1 and 4 will fire fast tubes. I have wondered why that is? Does it depend upon the situation or when the tubes are opened? Something to do with timing re: the target? Dunno.
Anybody have the same "problem"?

That is influenced by your torpedo load-out prior to departing base on patrol Archive1, but also by the order you shoot the torpedoes, and what you have in reserve for reload. As you shoot torpedoes, the next available is usually loaded when using the auto-load of the game.

1. Initial loadout - I am not aware that we have any control over that. When we depart the base, it is what it is. And where is there any way for us to "set" the speed of the torps as they load? Nada as far as I know.
2.The order they are shot: It does not seem to matter if one selects the #1 tube as first or the #3 tube - always, #1 is fast, #4 is fast, #2 & #3 are slow. Unless, randomly, they are not...sometimes all are fast. Huh! I cannot tell you when that occurs. I certainly cannot tell you why.
3. Reserve - There is no way of knowing the set "torp speed" of anything in reserve, is there? Do they actually come preset when dumped into Reserve when loaded+? Not a great situation if true.
I would actually presume that each torp could be set for the desired speed in the torp room at the command of the Kaleun just before shooting, in real life...which is not where we are (happily enough). That was certainly true in US subs; the torp room could set all kinds of stuff just before shooting.

Hello everyone :Kaleun_Salute:, there is an issue for the observation periscope in my game currently (not sure if it is just me or if it was documented somewhere). The markings, in particular the "10"s are currently out of alignment unlike with the attack periscope.
I've been spending a bit of time fiddling with camera.dat /optics to no avail, since just altering zoom levels seems to not really do the trick. I wouldn't mind knowing a way of having them removed as an alternative, but I'd still prefer a way to fix it properly if anyone can help.

Seems I found the answer I was looking for in the menu_1024_768.ini file!
After tweaking the appropriate degHL, degHR, degVT, degVB values I managed to get them aligned now.
Time to rig for silent running again for the time being. Cheers!

I have been in constant frustration with the UBOAT game (that is sadly a polished crap) and this mod is a relief!

I think you can reduce the file sizes with a trick or 2. Hope you don't mind if I play around a bit?
As an example you have 80 3D meshes with many of those just a copy of each other.
If 5 people have an exact copy of the base meshes? You only need 1 mesh to do it all.
Will add, as Jeff purpose, size of the embedded images … many times, 256x256 is enough instead of 512x512 … saves tons of MO :yep:

Here is a little hint for the users of the AZC ... (Animated Additional Crew) ...
... if you start a single mission “under water”, the TRG's are not on station, there is just no usable status “under/above water” that you could use ....
... just give a “small” depth command, for example 0.5-1m deeper and there it is ...
... reported by the “Röhrenfahrer” ... if you pull up the deck gun crew individually via the crew console, they are not visible, but they all work ... no “Man_on_Deckgun” command is given, ergo no corresponding animation is played, there exactly the same, please just press the key combination Ctrl+D again or call up the crew via the WO, so you have your “favorites” on station (Deckgun)

in the south around gibralter and south towards antartica i discovered ports which id markers dont tell if their axis or allies, in fact i cruised to casablanca port and no activity at all,(dead port). airplanes still come out to attack but no ships found anywhere around these ports. on my way to freeman port, just curious. as far as the atolls between afrika and south america they are id label as allies ( british) but found nix there, so is it just eye candy? i did find a german port just north east of gibralter port i think its calles veronga according to the statement do you want to anlegen in veronga, but again no id on map etc. any thoughts? thanx
btw i figured if im cruising all the way down there i should loof forward to sinking some ships docked in port

Greetings.
I've been playing LSH3 2015 edition for many years and was hesitant to switch to newer versions due to additional mods that I use. However now that I've seen how good it looks in HD (without the need to bother with extra gui mods) I think it is the time to upgrade. One of the mods I was using was the M.E.P. with some addons for vanishing hulls etc.. Is it expected for the mod to work properly with the new version by your experience? I'm asking that because I noticed it is no longer included in the mod library with which the new version comes (2015 version came with MEP and MEP sensors for LSH3 mods).
An issue is with the hydrophone view where the notepad appears in the middle of the screen making it difficult to use, is there any known fix for that?
Thanks for your continued work on a mod that I've always found to be my best overall gameplay choice.

After some work I managed to adjust the MEP and other mods I was using to the new version of LSH3. Issues I have now are the following:
- "Fog sighted" message doesn't appear at all, neither does time compression adjust accordingly.
- "Radio message received" message does not affect time compression at all, which is another big problem.
HSIE patch is enabled as is the HSIE mod, options in HSIE selector are enabled accordingly. Other functions such as torpedo reload, diesel damage and even wolfpacks do work ingame.
Any information on the matter will be appreciated.

I have a commander in Patrol 19 with a good record (Dec 1940), but I cannot get him a type VIIC - he is still locked into a type VIIB.
I have others who have fewer missions and at earlier dates that have transitioned. But I cannot figure out how to upgrade him.
I may have the same question about upgrading some other commanders to the Type IX, who have 25 patrols at later dates. But dates when the earlier type IXs were available and newer models were appearing.
I have had times before when a msg was received on patrol to a commander that upgrades were available, but how to acquire these is obscure.
Any help?

Second prob:
After a successful patrol docked at Versogel 'Bessel' in Portugal expecting to get torpedo, artillery rounds, fuel upgrade. Got none of them. What, just a wurst and a shower?
Is anyone monitoring this program anymore?
Any plans on upgrading it - since it is getting rather old and fusty?
Been around here for a long time, now, but things at LSH3 are getting a bit rusty...fusty...debilitated. Hate to see that happen after a fine few years.

Really wanted to try this mod but alas the install process decided it doesn't like my installation from the original dvd :(
For those not using win 11 (or maybe "only" because of Starforce Rootkit):
The Original DVD installer will install files then open gameshadow install, after that the installer claims to be finished but remains open.
Then you have missing files from .cab files, you can then open these cab files in windows explorer and can manually copy them over into your install (.exe .dll .act) to get a working copy off of your boxed version if you use a crack.
Anyway I have a "vanilla as per above notes" install aka patched up to 1.4b without modified exe or dll files (no crack) and LSH3 hates me (no original/unmodified Ubi found)
Would like some help, here are the checksums of my files maybe someone can tell me which ones the installer of LSh3 does not like and provide alternatives for them if they need to be replaced as I have no way of getting these files without paying for a digital distribution: https://www.mediafire.com/file/77z0ita16qn9otg/checksums.7z/file

Ahoy I figured it out the installer dislikes any folder name besides: SilentHunter3, SilentHunterIII, Silent Hunter III. At least it worked after I renamed mine from sh3 to SilentHunter3.

Greetings to all commanders.
I have two questions about a) a historical aspect of the game and b) a graphical change.
In order:
I wanted to change the neutrality status of Belgium which, to tell the truth, was not neutral, except in a very early stage of the war. After being invaded by Germany, the Belgian government in exile collaborated extensively with the Allies, the Belgian merchant navy participated with its ships in the formation of convoys, and even the colonial possessions of Belgium (Belgian Congo) remained faithful to the government in exile. Would it be possible to change the neutrality status of Belgium by incorporating it into the Allies from May 10, 1940 until the end of the war?
Second question: I noticed that, after sinking a ship, the wreckage and the shipwrecked remain a bit too much on the surface and seem to float unrealistically in mid-air. How can I change the dive parameters to "lower" them just enough to make them more realistic?

When starting a new career in Commander (selecting Erprobungsstelle of course), type VII is not available until March of 1941. Going ingame the same is true, only the types IIA, IID and IXB are available to buy in Erprobungsstelle until then, not to mention that VIIC appears even before VIIB on the list. When starting the game without using Commander, U-boats are available as per default. Why is that so?

... The behavior of the Animated Crew on Deck has been changed so that the full animation is no longer played when the A-CoD is below deck (stop all animations).
... because all animations were running permanently.
... these only start when the A-CoD is called on deck and end again when it is transported below deck.
This update replaces Version 1.0

I want to use some code downloaded to me on Mediafire...but I have never used that program.
How do I convert the information received in the MediaFire format (some Data/Air code) into a text file that I can use to modify - that is actually put into the Data file of the version of the program I wish to modify?

All: As long as I am asking for help, I'd like to get rid of the Yellow/Orange surface icon that floats above the submerged sub's position. At least I want to try surviving a destroyer attack without the surface icon.
But where in the code does that icon reside? Can anybody tell me how to find it?

one in GWX3 or GWX KC thats invisible

Hi together,
i enabled the _LSH3-2022_GUI_OLC-FHD in LSH3-2022. While the "RAOBF" is working, I can't find the Attack-Disc. However, if I look at the contents of the Mod it should be "somewhere".
Maybe I miss something for activation (like the "WO" in ARB Mod)?
Running SH3 with wine on Linux.
