Please, keep the discussion at minimum here, use TWoS main thread (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=210703) for chitchatting instead. The idea is to have only clear reports and solution for problems in this thread.
When reporting a problem/bug/CTD, please make sure to provide answers to following questions:
1. Version of the game ? (DVD, Uplay/UConnect download, Steam, other) TWoS version?
2. Confirm that your game is updated to official v1.2.0 version and that the vanilla game works without problems
3. If you use any non-TWoS custom mods, remove them, reinstall your game/TWoS completely according to install instruction, start new campaign and make sure that the issue still persist!
4. Confirm that the Generic Patcher is correctly activated and the snapshot is successfully restored (Install instructions, step 2) Upload screenshot of opened Generic Patcher window and it's patches (Silent Hunter 5\TDW_GenericPatcher_v_1_0_168_0/GenericPatcher.exe)
5. Provide a screenshot of your main Silent Hunter 5 installation folder and it's content!
6. JSGME screenshot!
7. Make sure to provide as much details as possible when describing situation where problem/bug/CTD can be observed. What should we do in order to reproduce this issue?
8. Upload several screenshots and gamesaves on which problem can be observed.
Any report with less details or cry"HELP MY GAME CTD RANDOMLY ALL THE TIME :/\\!!:timeout::down::hmph: !!!" is not helpful at all and it will only cause confusion.
Be thorough in your bug reports so we can diagnose, fix or discard the issue with less time consuming efforts, otherwise we wont see much use of it .

Hello,
Not sure if this is a bug or not, I have contact reports enabled in the patcher and set to show true course and speed, however, very rarely does this happen.
In the cases it works I get a message in message box with all the corrected info and in the skippers log I get the non filtered data.
Most cases I only get a skippers log entry and no message box data.
I run a fairly high end machine, win10 with steam version. All patches went smooth as well as steam. Everything else runs as it should and I really love the modpack. Been playing off and on for years and everyone here does great work THANK YOU SUBSIM COMMUNITY!!!
Only additional mods I run are sobers no footsteps and change days in bunker.

If I may, I want not to report a bug but a solution. I am running SH5 TWoS on:
1. Windows 10, i5 4670k @3.4Ghz, 8GB RAM DDR3 2133Mhz, Nvidia GeForce 960.
2. Silent Hunter 5 disc version patched and registered on Uplay afterwards.
3. 1.2, and was running without the mod.
I still noticed the game being slightly unstable especially if fulfilling a mission or when a lot of activity was on the screen. So I started using the 4GB RAM Patcher again. This is basically a free tool that updates the Exes of 32bit programs so they are able to use up to 4GB of RAM. Usually 32bit programs are not able to do so because 800MB were reserved for the OS. So if you use this tool, the game is able to use additional 800MB of RAM. According to the experience of at least two friends and myself this greatly increases stability especially close to the coast, when finishing missions and during really big convoy attacks.
THIS WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU ARE ACTUALLY RUNNING THIS GAME ON A 64BIT OS WITH MORE THAN 4GB OF RAM!

Simply download, start the tool up, select the Sh5.exe, done. That's it. By the way, this works with every older game that is rather RAM hungry.

Not sure if this is a bug or not, I have contact reports enabled in the patcher and set to show true course and speed, however, very rarely does this happen. Not a bug.
You will only see this information when you lock onto a ship in range with the space-bar and it is enabled in the OFEV (see picture)
You will this information in the Navigation Map but will only see it in the TAI Map when the map is fully open ( use the TAB key)
You will never see the contacts Speed, this is something you have to do yourself if using manual targeting, not needed for Auto TDC.
Message box entries only come from your crew.
Check TDW's Options File Editor Viewer (OFEV)
Make sure you have radio messages enabled so you can receive them, see picture.

Looks like you have some sort of corruption either when downloading or installing?
Uninstall your game from the Control Panels Program and Features.
Use a Registry cleaner and re-boot before re-installing
Post #70 How To Use The Free Registry Cleaner 'Ccleaner' > Pictorial > Includes Download Link (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2202382&postcount=70)
Update your game to v1.2
Make sure your SH5.exe is set as an administrator.
Start a stock game and see if it loads alright before installing TWoS.

That all for now, not more problems Known by me at the moment.
Got the exact same issues because I didn´t run my Uplay SH5 install before installing WOTS. When reinstalling make sure you delete your complete installation folder and the "SH5" folder in my documents/Dokumente.
I got a problem on my own. When starting a new WOTS campaign everything seems to work fine but in the starting harbour the dialogue options to take a look at my ship upgrades and change the torpedo ordnance is greyed out... What is the matter?
^^^^ when for first time you get into bunker, did you saved then exit and reload your save as required?

1. Operating System, System spec ?
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
2. What is your version of the game ? (DVD, Uplay download, Steam, other ?)
DVD
3. Confirm that your game is updated to official v1.2.0 version and that the vanilla game works without problems.
Installed the game form the DVD, ran the updater to v1.2.0 and tested the vanilla game and all worked good.
4. Provide a screenshot which will show all content and installation path of your main Silent Hunter 5 install folder.
5. Describe briefly your mod installation process and specify any error messages you've got during the installation.
Installed The Wolves of Steel 2.2_SH5 Expansion Pack_v2.2.7_Full exe and fired up SH with admin rights. Game stopped working after few minutes. Bitdefender quarantined sh5 exe and a bunch of other files associated with SH claiming Atc4.Detection threat.
6. Confirm that you have checked for solution in provided install instructions and other documentation?
Searched the forum but did not find any related posts.
7. Specify mods you're using and state your mod order (do not type the list manually, use "Export activated mods list to" JSGME function).

I know the install instructions strongly recommends deactivation during the installation. I did keep Bitdefender running during the installation with no issues. My issue began while running the mod for the first time.

Absolutely false positive.:yep: Probably your AV does not react very well on a "new" SH5 executable which has been modified by TDW Generic Patcher. You should talk with Bitdefender support and submit the files for the analysis so that they can update their database... :yep: Until than, it's up to you will you ignore the warnings and play the game or wait for official bitdefender confirmation about FP detection.:yep:

I have already made a clean installation of the vanilla and excluded the entire Silent Hunter 5 folder from any future AV scans plus fired up the game and started playing the intro campaign.
I have deleted all the quarantined files the AV, so I should be able to restore any files blocked by the AV when I install the The Wolves of Steel mod again.
I assume as the author of the mod that you don't take any responsibility should my rig explode? :subsim:

For some reason I cant install the The Wolves of Steel 2.2. Every time I try to install it says in the end "Windows did not find 'TWoS_JSGME.exe'.
I found the JSGME thing here from this site at http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=156898 thread but when I click download it says: Invalid File ID. If you are trying to download a Bonus Mod, you need to access the SUBSIM SUBscribers Lounge - BONUS MODS forum at the top of the page.

Yesterday i install dvd version of SH5 and try to install WOS mod and it crash game immediately after first loading is done, just before intro. without mod game runs fine. I did fallow all instruction i just don't use steam conversion tool. any advice many thanks

After setting SH5 on the shelf several years ago, I started reading up on TWoS and am giving it a go...so far it has been amazing.
I have encountered one minor glitch so far. When I started my first "practice" Baltic campaign in Memel my boat (a Type VIIB) was sitting with decks awash in the bunker...really "awash"...practically at periscope depth. It slowly surfaces but still only to decks awash. Something amiss there?
I was also wondering if it would still be possible to work on tutorials if I leave the Documents/SH5/data/cfg/CareerHistory tutorial question as "False"? I think I need some practice with all the new stuff before I try to continue on a patrol.

Nothing to fear with your sub being submerged in bunker. We all see that :yep:
Techniciens and engineers are working on few leaks and testing repairs :D
To do some practice before starting patrols, you could launch some single mission instead of tutorial?
Furthermore in single mission parts, there are some torpedo practice etc

Hey all. My UZO all of a sudden has a square view. I am not sure if I changed any settings. It happened in eastern coastal watters during a massive convoy battle. (ctd happened) before I got several white parts in the screen (radio coding icon, battle stations icon, UZO became white square too. When I loaded a savegame the UZO gave image but remained square. I would like the binocular view back but how?...
I suspect my Nvidia and memory had problems. So now will try running it with msi afterburner.

I must ad that I will be going shortly to make a contribution to vdr1981 to support his wonderful work. Having done the real thing many times, I have found it positively "enchanting" to again be able to conn my ship out of port, clear the sea buoys and set course for my Patrol Area...

Assuming you are playing TWOS, why do you have NewUIs 7.4.2 activated??
It’s already included in TWOS, but newer version!
Deactivate this old NewUIs version, and i think you will get out of trouble :yep:
You should not activate others mods than TWOS one...or be 100% sure of compatibility

You are right. Cleaning the system up as we speak and doing a new clean install of the game and 2.2.7.
I wanted the old (UI) with the historic accurate telegraph, depth meter and compass/rudder function.
Probably installed too many old mods and stuff together with newer stuff.

What do you mean by "TWoS game icon" ?:hmm2:
If you have extracted TWoS files at the correct location (main SH5 install directory) there is no way that can still have vanilla loading screen because the files have been replaced...

You are absolutely right. I messed up with the installing.
(about that TWOS icon, I changed the shortcut name so that is why I thought it was an icon inside the mod. Did that years ago though so was so very used to it that I forgot hahaha).
I just hate reinstalling mods. Especially since I was in the middle of attacking this when my problems started (which made me quite cross I might add) :

I want Historically correct dials. Not that modern mumbo jumbo :)
And I do not think there is another mod with those historic dials is there ? (which might not cause UZO problems).

Everything went fine and i get no errors. But now when i start a game i have some message windows in front. There is no chance to close them. And ingame i have a big black quarter in the left front. What can i do to fix this? Thanks for your help.

Everything went fine and i get no errors. But now when i start a game i have some message windows in front. There is no chance to close them. And ingame i have a big black quarter in the left front. Had to disable the interior food stocks mod.
My camera got stuck in the strangest places making the game unplayable.
Now everything works properly again (for now).

Ordered directly my watch officer to man the Flak, but strangely the Flak was moving without the guy...
I had the little icon top right though.
2 swordfish attacked me, and the Flak was ineffective !
Not to say the result...
I had the correct flak icons enabled for fire frei and attack all aircrafts.
Also from some time now, when i can see the Flak man, he is standing crouched with the gun aiming vertically :o even with no contacts.
It’s a new sub VIIB, with stock Flak (not the twin) at the rear of conning tower.

Yes, I'm aware of that. This will happen in general if Battle stations level 2 is enabled. Other alternative is to lose your AA defense every time small wave splashes your deck. :) Not very useful if you're under attack, you'll have to agree. To "holster" your deck/AA guns, enable/disable "BattleStations Level 2" crew state from your watch officer command menu...

Was playing little with damage model and noticed small error in NSS_Uboat7b.upcge.
Type VIIB has crew exposure set to 0. (CrewExposure=0.) in her .upcg file for propulsion room. It should be something like 0.1 or 0.2 and further down, there are two instances(artillery room and flak room) set to value 2, which is to much. Must be between 0 and 1, preferably 0.1(vanilla) or 0.2.
BTW great mod compilation, easy installation, great support, manuals...Really good work.

This is not a bug, this is my problem,I broke the old monitor, this new one has a resolution 1366x768, theoretically 16: 9. The problem is that the images are now a little larger and some overlap.for example if I open the "crew management" screen or I open "enigma" the gray "notepad" at the bottom right now covers part of the screens, it is useless to minimize it, it is a little too long, and it overlaps the screens below. is it possible to move it to another part of the screen? (changing the location from the ".cfg file" for example or make it draggable). alternatively could you explain me how to change the resolution of the Mod to adapt it to 1366x768?.I'm sorry for the length of the explanation, and for my English.

You always match your monitors native resolution to the games graphics whenever possible.
In your case as seen in the picture there should be a preset resolution that you can enable.

The problem is that it is set to native resolution, so I have to find other solutions,
also the monitor has no digital output but only analogical, so I can not take full advantage of the "Catalyst Center" of my graphics card ...

I’m not Vecko :D but have you tried to activate a resolution ratio mod to match yours in TWOS Jsgme?
They are add on mods delivered with TWOS install.
It should solve many trouble IMHO :salute:

Yes, had tried but the result worsens by changing the resolution .. that of the Mod (with Jsgme) that the resolution of the monitor ... the best is with the native 1366x768, if I do not find solutions patience, I go on like this, TWoS is great, great mod do not give up for this problem... But if find solution... Is better! Eheheheh

Just tried to install this and apparently did something wrong since I am still getting put into the tutorial when I start a new campaign.
Dumb initial question, do you still start the game through steam after you've installed the mod? That is what I have been doing and I'm not sure if that is the problem.

Did you install the mod at the required location (main SH5 install dyrectory) ? I guess not...:hmm2:

That was definitely the problem, must've gotten too click happy when installing and forgot to change the path.

Hi … Norton is saying that my sh5.exe file is infected with heur.ADv.ML.C virus. Is this a false positibve. Now I know why I had to reinstall yesterday. It removed my exe file. After reinstalling SH5 along with TWOs it popped up and did it again today. Is this a false positive? Anyone else get this?

ok found another post with a similar issue. I will move forward as if its a false positive. If anyone can confirm that I would appreciate it.

While returning to La Pallice, in grid square BE, I stumble upon a convoy, some 10 or 12 steamers, completely unescorted. It has happened in previous patrols as well. I would imagine that unescorted convoys so late in the war in north atlantic are a bug.

Excellent! :yep: You'll find your gamesave in "C:\Users\[your username]\Documents\SH5\data\cfg\SaveGames" folder. Zip last modified folder named something like "0000000**" and upload it somewhere...

I'm not sure if this is a TWoS bug (I've never played SH5 without TWoS) so excuse me if this has been reported as "vanilla" bug.
When I'm in bunker and choose torpedo loadout, I load a T5 in the aft torpedo tube but when I start the patrol the aft torpedo tube has a T1.
I've seen this behaviour also in previous version of TWoS.

I recently upgraded from v1.06 of TWoS (complete reinstall, not patches), and this is a new problem for me. I'm sure I have missed something on my end, but I have been thorough trying to keep it basic, clean install, cleared registries, followed instructions etc.
1. Operating System, System spec ?
- Win7 pro sp1 64-bit, i7-3770k cpu @ 3.5 GHz, 16Gb ram, GeForce GTX 980
2. What is your version of the game ? (DVD, Uplay download, Steam, other ?)
- Steam
3. Confirm that your game is updated to official v1.2.0 version and that the vanilla game works without problems.
- Confirmed
4. Provide a screenshot which will show all content and installation path of your main Silent Hunter 5 install folder.

- Game closes without any error messages (CTD) within 60 seconds after entering the bunker scene. If I'm quick, I can click the uboat-configurations guy, or the missions guy, but it will crash even if I get their selection windows opened. It will also crash if I just stand still after bunker scene is loaded, and don't do anything.

I thought I was careful when doing this, counted that I had 9 entires after all the OK's in the patcher, but I think I forgot to restore snapshot also. I redid this part, and it works like a charm now

Taken from the installation guide:

Put short, it's nice that the installation guide informs us but it'd be nicer if it also told us how to prevent or revert this change, which is the issue I bring to the thread.
Windows 10, steam install.
I don't believe anything else is relevant, as the mod is working as intended, I just have issue with that xD

I had version 2.2.2. No problems, all mods worked and the game was great. Updated to 2.2.9, and few things have broken.
1) the begin with type 7b Uboat mod shows the flag pole as a gray shader without skin. Looks weird. The type 7a, no problem.
2) The chimney smoke mod, does not work at all.
So far that's it, just aesthetics's but I am curious if there is something I can to fix them. Love. The update. Thanks.

It's probably system related since sub flags work just fine for others...
2) The chimney smoke mod, does not work at all.
Not all ports will have chimney smoke, regardles of TWoS version...

Got a game crash when trying to edit a Supermark. Basically pushed V (to edit) and every time I typed "V" in the word convoy it would restart the editing process. Then when I had enough of that I moused over the cancel option and the game immediately crashed to windows. I've had a crash trying to re position Supermark once before...but thats it.
I'm still running TWOS 1.06 (due to not playing that much and stilling wanting to continue my current career without starting over to install the newest version.
EDIT: replicated it again though slightly different. Now when I add the text for the original Supermark (vice editing it)....I try and type "convoy"...but when I get to "v" it goes into edit mode and starts over. cancel button causes Crash to Desktop.
EDIT#2: replicated again. It seems the keyboard gets stuck in limbo. It worked fine the first couple of times I did it(meaning I edited it and saved it...I then did it and canceled it). Then for some reason without explanation, I made a new Supermark and it was bugged again...meaning the keyboard was still doing game commands while I was typing....specifically when I hit "V" it would start over the text...because "V" is the edit supermark key. So I don't know what the trigger is...I'll keep digging when I have more time.
EDIT #3: After testing again last night and this morning....I think I've narrowed it down to maybe having a corrupt Journal? I load my Journal when I start up and save when I exit....without journal entries. Long story short, I loaded up one of the wolfpack missions to do a separtate test to see maybe if it was a corrupted save game file from my campaign. Low and behold everything worked great with no issues when making or editing supermarks. Then I decided to load my Journal in this single mission and then it replicated same problem as before. So i'm thinking either the Journal file is corrupted (and not the campaign saved game file)...or maybe there is some sort of operator error in the loading or saving process of the journal. IDK...it seems straight forward.
Next I'll start a new journal for my Career.....make new Supermarks....and then save and exit. I'll start back up and open the journal to see if I can get the problem again...
EDIT #4: The problem definitely has to do with Opening a Saved Journal and specifically editing a Supermark. Started Campaign Save without opening Journal.... no problems making, saving, or editing Super marks. As soon as I opened the New Journal (aka nothing actually saved on it)....I can make new supermarks with any text....but as soon as I edit that text....is when things go bad.....if I hit the v key it erases the text.....and as soon as I try to hit the cancel/save/erase keys it crashes.
Next I will try "other keys" besides the v key to see what happens...
EDIT #5: Back to square one. Did a "Historical Mission" and was able to duplicate the problem without using the Journal Functionality. So its definitely NOT a Journal problem. Isn't Troubleshooting fun?? So ignore my last edits...... (or maybe I shouldn't post my active troubleshooting efforts as to no confuse people). The Problem persists....which is again....I can make a Supermark and type text that includes the letter "v" in the text. But if I edit that supermark it sometimes doesn't lock out the keyboard to use other commands. Namely, if I start typing and hit the letter "v"...it will erase my text as if I'm re-editing the supermark. It will erase the supermark if I hit the "x" key while trying to edit it.
now I need to test whether moving the mouse after actuating the edit function....will keep it from trying to reedit or delete the supermark when trying to edit it....
Edit#6: Sooooo yeah. If you just move the mouse off your supermarks.....you will not have a problem editing them. So...kind of a stupid move on my part, not figuring it out sooner...it's still kind of a bug, but easily avoidable. So, in Closing, If you want to edit a Supermark.....after you mouse over it and hit "v"...make sure to mouse off the supermark...because the X,C,V keys (to delete, move, or edit) are still active. That was a long road to a simple anwser....but sometimes that is the problem....a simple solution.

Only added the antilag mod to fix stuttering....

If I place the flag removal mod, it takes away that flag pole but there is the other flag pole at the stern that stays and is gray with no skin. Might be a conflict between the Uboat skins.

I remember similar problem reports from long time ago but I could never reproduce them. You should try with latest TWoS version but your problem may persist as well. v1.06 is very old and unstable.

Weird thing after testing more is that it only seems to happen with a Second Supermark. The first one works just fine I think.
EDIT: Just mousing off the Supermark solves the "problem". Ugh....Can't believe I didn't figure that out sooner
As soon as I die again....I'll upgrade to the latest. Too much life going on right now to play SH5 a lot.

Hey guys have twos 2.2.9 and I'm using the journal for the first time. When I start up my last save, I go to open the ship journal, select my patrol number, and I just noticed like four repeat entries all over the journal. Like everything repeated 2-3-4 times. What am I doing wrong?

I think I know what is the problem here, too many dialog lines. Try to use keyboard numbers to interact and bypass the problem(press 9 for example). I'll try to fix the issue in the next update but can not say exactly when. I'm very busy these days...
Hi There, im Having Problems installing the mod.
When i start the installer .exe of the mod, at a certain Point a window Pops up wich says that the files are corrupted. I tried downloading the installer .exe again an again but it doesnt do the trick.

This should not happen unless your download has had a problem.
Check that your Anti-virus is not the cause.

Reproduce: Start the game in 3440x1440 resolution.
Description: Map on starting screen (in the boat hangar) is on the top left of the screen. As it's only possible to resize the map to the top and right, there is no way to get the map opened in a reasonable size. I can't move the map as well.
In another thread the same problem is described, but in-game. In-game you have a button to toggle the map (TAI visibility). This toggles the map to the bottom left which means you may resize it as needed. Works as described. But this button is not not be found on the starting screen.
Also this makes navigating the main map (where to pick the missions) pretty hard. As the small map is controlling the main map, navigating in the main map via mouse is not possible. I can use the arrow keys and I finally succeeded in accepting the first mission. But it was not funny...
(I messed with all resolution related settings that I could think of: fullscreen/windowed, VSync on/off, 60/75Hz etc. Issue always the same.)
This behaviour does not occur in game where the main map works as exptected and the mini-map may be toggled with the button, so no issues in-game.

I started yesterday (Feb 9) with the vanilla game completing the first (tutorial mission) and stopped in the first official mission. Today (Feb 10) I installed WoS mod and started new campaign. I saved this new campaign right at the very start using "WoS1" as file name.

It's good thing that you don't gave any problems in normal gameplay. It's a resolution problem. I don't think there is a fix for it...SH5 is an old game, not very well optimized for new hi-res monitors...

Unfortunately, on the main menu, there is a window in the middle of the screen that I can not manage to close.

If you are using the XO especially with assistance off, he will still calculate numbers but will have errors. If you don’t set the TDC manually, he will give strange numbers like that. If I choose to use his menu to calculate a target, then I only use his menu. The numbers are never that bad. If I don’t want to use him, then I only use TDC, and ignore anything he says.

I was previously playing the game with and without real navigation making the change when in the bunker.
I noticed that when real navigation was enabled apart from the initial plot on the map by the navigator I did not get any further position map updates.
I have re-installed SH5 with v2.2.9 no navigator updates and added the v2.2.10 update with the same outcome no map updates.
The OFEV is automatically set to true for plotting.
The Real Navigation mod is last in my mod list.

I'm not sure Peter what is going on. In my game, map plotting, with or without real navigation and the navigator work exactly the same like with previous versions. I haven't made any changes there recently...:hmmm:

I do not have my glasses on, is that a Steam install Admiral Lutjens? You have to start the game in Stock once so that you can input the license key, then you can do TWoS, but be sure and use the Steam conversion when you get to it... :salute:

as vecko told you AV or a crap Firewall if u have windows defender disable it for 5 min and try it like that do not forgot to disable that crap firewall too...
In first mission, TWoS 2.2.9 with Real Nav enabled - it's 8:30, Sept. 01 1939 and the war has not started... or at least my sub didn't get the radio message about start of hostilities.
While I am happy for the world to avoid all this unnecessary bloodshed, I suspect there might be something wrong with my radio settings. Haven't really changed anything except for disabling the checkbox in Journal for crew messages appearing (to avoid cluttering my KTB with 99 reports of sighting the same fishing vessel and STILL being in shallow waters).
EDIT: Re-enabled the checkbox and it seems fixed - next radio message from BdU has appeared.

Did you match script time index with your current in-game time? :hmmm:
Just tested Real nav "Position on patrol" scripts in my and game and everything was working fine...:yep:

I actually declined to run the steam conversion tool since my game is non-steam

I think I've found a little bug in radiomessages.txt for month 08.1939:
The "to" field in all messages in this file is left blank, and it seems to cause them not reaching the player. Since we start campaign on 31.08 only the last message from this file (Instructing German forces to start operations against Poland at 4:45) would ever be received, but it's kinda important one :)
I changed the "to" field to "player" and the message now appears at correct time when I start a campaign.

hey, I do have a question, the game started out fine, running the disc version, all updated and started a game with 2.2.9 and updated about early 1940(in-game)
now I got the message to not dock,(base change till June 7th, 1940) game seem to crash whenever I look at the captain's hat (right top menu) so I avoided it and made a few saved games along the way, now I can't even reload saved games, only from between dates, I can go back farther, and its ok
any ideas? maybe an issue with 2.2.9 going to 2.2.10?
running windows 10 and a computer i built, no issues any other place.

Using TWoS 2.2.9 on Win7 laptop, Steam version of the game (used Steam conversion tool as instructed during installation). From optional mods, enabled Real Navigation, Food Stacks, Reduced Explosions, Remove Flags and Encrypted BdU Orders.
I'm having following issues while saving / reloading game:
1) Destroyed marks/supermarks:
Destroyed marks do not show up when I use "Continue Campaign" option from main menu, but do show up when I use "Load Game" on the very same saved game.
Supermarks / Navigation fixes are the opposite - they only show up when game is loaded via "Continue Campaign" and not when I use "Load Game".
This happens 100% of the time I tried both these options.
2) Radio Messages:
Several issues here:
Issue 1: When I save game between the date/time a radio message starts and date/time it ends and I haven't received it yet, it will not be received at all upon loading the game and continuing. I ran DebugView and it seems radio message engine only loads messages which have not started their time yet.
So, for example, if a message is broadcasted from 05:00 to 15:00 and I have been underwater between 04:00 and 06:00, then surfaced, saved game and exited before message was received, upon loading the game the message will not be added as available even though theoretically it should still be broadcasted for 9 hours.
Issue 2: If I save game at, say, 05:00 game time, then continue playing, receive a bunch of messages save again (different save file) at 16:00 and then reload a save from 05:00, messages from between 05:00 and 16:00 are gone from the "later" save. EDIT: looking at Debug, the script deletes messages later than current date upon loading the game. The problem is that there's only one file with saved career messages per career, regardless of how many savegame files exist for this career.
Issue 3 (or 2A...possibly related to the above) - when playing (without any reverting to older saves) and continuing campaign through the "Continue Campaign" option, I've seen radio messages I have received earlier disappear upon loading game. Still unsure at which point exactly does this happen, hard to reproduce because they do not always disappear. It seems "Sub sighted", "Report status" and such disappear more often than campaign immersion messages, and only ones that never disappeared on me were Enigma coded messages.
I'll try to narrow down what causes all this but would appreciate if anyone could confirm if this would happen to others as well or it's something specific to my installation?

As far as the first issue, if I remember correctly, you can’t load from “continue” you are supposed from “load” screen for stability issues.
Although as long as you delete the auto-save before exiting the game and then start your game from “continue” i dont see an issue. Maybe someone can chime in.

Load your saved journal file when you load the gamesave. This feature (journal entries, navmarks, supermarks) works as intended, I never noticed any problems with it. Destroyed marks are bugged, yes.

Ok, here's what I do:
- Launch the game
- after "saved games were synchronized from the server" prompt, main menu appears.
- In the "ship's journal" section my saved journal file is selected by default
- I select "Load game", select my savegame and "load", then the game loads with destroyed marks but without supermarks and nav fixes. Journal itself does load just fine though.
- If I select "continue campaign" (I only currently have one save file so it uses the same), upon loading there are all supermarks and nav fixes I made but no destroyed marks...
I tried reselecting my journal from the "Ship Journal" in main menu before loading game, it made no difference.

I just updated TWoS mod to is current new state and i have two glitches that I've noticed right in the beginning. One is minor and the other is game breaking for me. The small issue is a ui box that says "User charts (scrollable)" but there is nothing in them and it doesn't go away nor is there any option i see to make it disappear. The other issue that is more game braking is when i talk to the man where he briefs me on missions and i select the mission, I can escape after that and i'm stuck in that map. There is no X mark to click, ESC button is not doing anything. Nothing. I have to shut down the game because im stuck in that view. If anyone knows a fix to any of these; most important the latter of the two, Id be very grateful. :Kaleun_Salute:

Actually I did find an X to exit out of that map view, it was just extremely hard to see but that black ya box is still there and also I noticed that the Automation UI Scrips are missing! Nothing under the categories section. I thought TWoS added this in there mod pack. I’m pretty sure I installed everything correctly. Spent a few hours of reading and looking at bugs other people had to make sure I was doing everything right

I've always used escape in that captains mission map. Where is the X at?
The little X box to escape the mission request map is completely hidden by the plastic reflection of the map.
It is located at top right map, just at the angle...
The escape key doesn’t escape the map at all. So better find this little X :03:
Would be cool to change this X stuff by a better one visible!

Hi Guys
Turned off destroyed marks in the OFEV which has allowed me to save games close to where ships are sunk without any save games loading problems.

Not sure if this a bug or not.I started in 1944 and very quickly after start and reloaded save my Radio men told me there is an important message for me.I take this but I can not find it anywhere.Also in the Log (key k) is nothing.Whats wrong with this?I am new at the game so perhaps I overlook something.

@vdr.... you are right and I did for awhile, but my issue is by doing that, I get 4,5,6 time repeat log entries ogpf the same thing. So I stopped uploading the journal. I play my game, don't upload journal, save the game, and when I continue my game, everything comes back without repeat entries... I just make sure I delete the auto save so I don't continue from there.

Ouch. Somehow missed that, thanks.
Seems to work for me, I didn't notice any duplicate entries yet and the marks are loading fine.

Yeah each time I upload and then save it rewrites everything over again. If I continue game, it’s as if the journal uploads itself, all marks and everything. It’s actually pretty cool. Oh well, weird right?

I'm going to say that he does not hear the whole file play for the explosion, only the initial sound, the crescendo, and then as it starts to fade out, it quits playing about 5 seconds too soon.
Belmondo, the game uses different files when your submarine is under water, and they would sound slightly muted, and quit sooner than the sound you hear when on the surface. Also, the audio in the game is generally a 44.1kHz, the same as CD audio. If you've been watching movies on your computer, the Windows audio stream might be set to 48kHz, and Windows might not be re-setting it, so check that first. You might also have a memory issue, or something playing in the background on your computer that is interfering with the game. Also, do not shell-out to Windows with the <Alt><Tab> key combination while the game is running.
The game is more than capable of playing multiple audio files, of varied types at one time, so you shouldn't have audio cutting off, unless it was edited that way. If it is one particular file that does the same thing every time, then find the file in the Sounds folder, and play it directly from there, and see if maybe it is the file itself that is messed-up. You would look for a file like "P06_#Splinter_explosion_hyd.wav" - that "hyd" is the underwater stuff. :salute:

Depends upon your Windows OS, but on my Win 8.1 laptop with Classic Shell Start Menu, I do Start, Control Panel, Sound, and click on the "Playback" tab (it should open to that), then on the "Speakers" in the list, which then activates the "Properties" button, which I click. From that, click the "Advanced" tab, and you'll see the "Default Format" listed, which in my case says "16-bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality)" in the drop-down box. Below that section is two tick-boxes for "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" and "Give exclusive mode application priority", both of which should be ticked, which is by default also. However, generally speaking, if that is set to "16-bit 48000 Hz", it would usually end up in an audio file that plays at a higher pitch, but does complete, unlike what you are getting. You might find something else amiss. If you by chance have used the 4 gig patch on SH5, remove that, since SH5 is already built to use the additional memory.
Windows used to be capable of on-the-fly sample rate changes from 44.1k to 48k and back, but since the last days of WinXP and the introduction of audio DRM with Vista, it no longer does that. For me, doing multi-track semi-professional audio on my computer in Windows 7 64-bit, I am constantly having to change sample rates when moving from mixing audio / video files, and then to take a break and play the game, and back again, etc. Even the bit-depth setting makes a difference. :salute:

seems that I get crew injured and damaged hull and other modal damage when I dive near the see floor in the north sea.
also seems to be that seabed varies a lot in death regards hit box or what the death under keel says
eg at 25 meters. depth under keel 75m so max is 100m but get the close to seabed warning at say 75 and lose 4 crew and half my modules at same time with still reporting 25m under keel.

The one mod you maybe referring to being enabled in JSGME is Real Navigation.
Your problem is not one of compatibility as SH5 will run on Windows 10 without it.
You need to make sure that your gpu is setup correctly as this is important.
Changing The Nvidia GPU Settings > Essential Settings > Pictorial (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2330173&postcount=239)
This option can be added if still a problem and often sorts a problem if your system has been updated by Microsoft.
Override High DPI Scaling Behavior > Pictorial (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2515223&postcount=412)
Another problem can be Direct X 9c an essential application for all SH versions is not installed or not installed correctly.
Do you have more than 1 SH5 installation?
This can be done without problems but has to be done correctly.

You are right. I have disabled all mods in the JSGME, only the main mod is active.

I fallowed the instruction and changed the DPI and Nvidia settings to your recommendation.
Another problem can be Direct X 9c an essential application for all SH versions is not installed or not installed correctly.
I have installed the directX drivers with the setup file in the support folder of the game. Now it takes much longer to start the game... buuut voila... The game responses properly :D

As far as harbour pilot goes I only know of one issue...
If you activate it, then change engine speeds while in the pen, you will get strange occurrences. If you use the pilot let it do it’s own thing until you leave the pen.
That was the only time I had an issue.

Everything works perfect, except tooltips. Tooltips are appearing as hieroglyphs. I have tried to change game language via registry, but nothing changes.

delete all *******_Draggables.TDW files from the SH5 main folder and should solve your problem...

Ok, so I think I found the solution to my problem I've set compatibility with Win XP and I run it as admin. Now Harbour Pilot works, but I don't know if it's bulletproof solution.

Yes, but english localization and speech synthesis for Windows are downloaded as well(used in VoiceAttack).
EDIT: solved this issue by downloading (for informational purposes, of course) english version from torrents. Looks like I won't be able to play the version from my disk (buka), as it missing some english localization or something...

You have "Russian Fonts Patch" in the documentation folder...:yep:
I wasn't able to get the external torpedos to be loaded inside, so I did a refit with U360 in the middle of the Atlantic. I was able to refit everything, then my ship slowed down to zero and the external torpedos were unloaded and loaded back into external slots, which took forever.
Now I can't move anymore.
I can static dive, but no matter what engines I try to use, the ship won't move. The engines run, the props turn, but no movement at all. Wether with or without a given course. Rudders turn as well. LI tells me we're going 10Knots, but we're not.

Using the latest TWOS with some customized textures (my own alberich) and sound files (custom engine sounds & grammophone).

Maybe there is a bug where you are stuck in refit / harbor mode when doing a refit in the open sea? Game probably doesn't set you free.
Or is there something I need to do to be able to move again?

I tried reinstalling the game from scratch. Now I can't even get in-game in vanilla before it crashes. I knew this game was a buggy mess, but I never expected this absolutely hellish experience lol
EDIT: OK, All uninstalled now and gone with the wind. Never touching Ubisoft/UPlay or their games again. Ima wait for UBoat instead for my WWII itch. I'm never touching this disaster area of a game again. Geez!

I'm having an issue where my attack periscope and UZO will not zoom. Attack periscope is stuck in 1.5x zoom and UZO at 7x. Using the mouse wheel does nothing when using either of those two. The mouse wheel zoom works for the observation periscope and binos on the bridge, so I'm unsure why it won't zoom in with the attack scope and UZO. I've searched around and could not seem to find anyone with this issue.
Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Ok, that explains the UZO, user error :haha: But I still have the issue with the attack periscope. I'm still not 100$ familiar with everything TWoS mod changes with regards to UI, but I compared my game with some Youtube videos to try and catch any issues. I noticed my periscope still has those green crosshairs in addition to the black ones. They overlap so I'm assuming they're not supposed to be there which leads me to believe there's an issue there that's causing my problem? I'll post screens of periscope and UI along with my mod list.
Additionally, should I have more depth/control options in the bottom left corner? Currently there's only "decks awash", "snorkle depth", and "dive" as quick options.

Ouch.. Wow ok, well I'm fairly new to modding this game with TWoS mod, so sorry I'm not up to speed with how everything works...
That being said, all I did was load "sobers 1421 23012017" mod profile into JSGME and disabled real nav/map to highlight another issue I was having... So as far as I knew, there was no issue with the mod list.
I'm approaching this with honest ignorance and after trying to research the issue myself decided to reach out to the community, my mistake.........

Ouch.. Wow ok, well I'm fairly new to modding this game with TWoS mod, so sorry I'm not up to speed with how everything works...
That being said, all I did was load "sobers 1421 23012017" mod profile into JSGME and disabled real nav/map to highlight another issue I was having... So as far as I knew, there was no issue with the mod list.
I'm approaching this with honest ignorance and after trying to research the issue myself decided to reach out to the community, my mistake.........
Download TWoS 2.2.11 FULL VERSION, install on SH5 1.2 via the autoinstaller, use OFEV (Option File Editor Viewer) to adjust your tastes in gameplay, add the included addon mods for TWoS and that is all. If you want to play with TWoS, don´t make your own modlist. TWoS is an independent compilation of mods and tweaks; you can´t mix apples with eggs with SH5 :Kaleun_Wink:

Lucky to say that some of us "oldies" from the DOS era grew up on first reading all the documentation available, or else you would not know what was going on.
VDR your documentation as supplied with TWoS is superb and I can appreciate the time you have dedicated in getting the documentation in sync with the released updates.

Hello, I just did a fresh install of the game + Twos mod 2.2 and I cannot use the hydrophone. At hydrophone station isn't not possible to turn the wheel to listen.
I didn't find any thread on this. Maybe too old.

I could get this to work by altering the menu.text file so that it allowed more than 9000 strings, but I think this error should not be happening and I should not fix it that way.
Any suggestions or ideas as to what might be wrong?

I'd say you've somehow messed up your game or mod installation. Better try again. Game updated to v1.2.0?

I'll try again then. It's probably the update you mentioned, as I assumed the game would be updated by Ubisoft when I reinstalled it. I gather it isn't?

No need to assume anything. Game version is shown in the upper right corner of your main menu...

Also: go to your sh5.exe in the main folder of the game. Right click on sh5.exe. See the "Properties/Details" of the file. You should see "version: 1.2.0.0".

I love this SH5 Add-On but it takes me 20 minutes or so to access the game. I know you have to be patient and there's a warning about getting a blank screen for 5 minutes or so, but 20 minutes!!!! At first I thought the game had crashed but not so and the game interface eventually appears.
I've no idea what TWoS is up to during that time but there's very little HDD activity as far as I can tell.
My PC isn't the latest and greatest but it's a Core I-7 (3.40GHz) with 16GB RAM and an NVidia GTX1070 graphics card.
Is there anything at all that I can do to speed up the TWoS loading time?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks :yeah:

If you really are desperate to speed up load times you can disable SOAN (TWoS ship recognition manual) - this will make game load very quick but you lose all useful info that comes with SOAN. To try this load OFEV application, open TheDarkWraithUserOptions.py, find SOAN and change it from true to false.

Ships Of All Nations aka the recognition handbook as it appears in TWoS though I have no idea if disabling it doesnt also turn off some targeting related functions. I have it off because at the moment I'm modding the game rather than playing it, so it makes no difference to me except for fast load times.
For my game, black screen when loading game is 4 minues with SOAN on, and like 5 seconds with SOAN off.

Polish destroyer ORP Wicher is inaccurately represented in game by Type 34 model, which it didn't resemble at all. Real ORP Wicher was copy of French Bourrasque, which we fortunately also have in game - replacing current model with Bourrasque clone would give Wicher its historical appearance:

After quite a few years I've finally returned to SUBSIM and after installing SH5 and TWOS I must say.....I'm totally dazzled! With so much time away from Uboats the learning curve is pretty steep but I'm loving every second of the challenge.
My one problem, so far, is that I can get almost no markings or Icons to show on either the TAI or Navigator's Map for than seconds.
If I ask the navigator for our present position after a brief wait it will show in the TAI chart. If I have my map tools marker in hand and mark the the small circular blue dot showing my position then that mark will remain; if not it disappears in about 30 seconds.
Can anyone tell me how I can make marks, icons, etc. remain on the map for a usable amount of time? If it might be involved in the problem I'm using Real Navigation

I don't use RN, but saving marks and messages should go this way:
On your main navigation map, in the icon groups on the right, there is your Captain's Log and below the log of all crew messages. In this window, you can 'save journal'. Enter a name and press Continue or OK on the lower right.
All your supermarks and radio messages as well as your destroyed marks (ships sunk) will be saved when you save game. No need to save journal for saving your Captain's Log, this is saved by the game everytime.
Normal marks that you did with protractor, circle, etc. will not be saved and disappear if your reload game.
You will have to reload everytime this journal when you load game. Chose 'Load journal' in the same window and enter the name you've entered before. You also have access to your journal in the main menu.

I've replaced both ships in my copy of the game so if you'd like the modded files I'll upload them for you.
Now that I look at it, ORP Gryf minelayer would also have to be changed - not because of being incorrect (AFAIK there's no ship model in SH5 that looks like original Gryf, this ship had quite a distinctive shape, so any similar size single stack DD would do) but because it currently uses R class model so assigning it to both Gryf and Grom would be confusing. Below is how it really looked - I honestly don't know which SH5 model would fit best.

That object is not to save these position marks, both my own and those of potential targets, for use in some future saved game but rather in the current game I'm playing at that time. I use them for attack plotting in the current game but as I mentioned in my original post they disappear way to fast to be useful, in about one to two minutes.
I'm wide open to any suggestions from anyone!

Reinstalled latest TWOS all is fine but i get alot of CTD in first Baltic Operations mission where i have to intercept Polish Task Force , when i see them i send status and contact report , after a bit of time and some TC i get CTD without any error message :k_confused:

This is mentioned in the WoS doc. You need to save/reload, it's a bug of the stock game that cannot be resolved.
