Update 6

Campaign update

Missions re-arranged. ASUW_Reinforce and SSN_Reinforce merged into ASUW_strike, SSN_Wolfpack and SSBN_Wolfpack. Sub_resupply merged into Ship_resupply. So adding the custom SSBN_wolfpack it’s still 10 mission categories. Main reason of change is seems like the campaign engine doesn’t quite like 0.05 mission frequencies.

PLAN ship types reduced to only 3: Luhu, Luda3 and Jiangwei. Integrated into normal missions and form the “medium” level in the hi-lo ASW mix. No more PLAN freighters. Main reason of change: target sorting list is getting “long and distinguished”…

Added Be-12 Mail, Mi-14 Haze and Y-8 to MPA list. They can actually show up in combat.

More force composition adjustments. No more Riga, replaced by Jiangwei. No more Akula2 – not enough difference from Akula1.

Vessel upgrade

Weapons:

Added UUM-125 ASW missile, Mk-50 torpedo.

Cavitation particle added for SS-N-15/16. They at least can be heard when launched.

Sensors:

PLAN sonars in use in campaign slightly bumped – at least closer to their original copies or stated comparable counterparts.

Added BQQ-5E and BQQ-10.

Shark Nose hull mounted sonar. MGK-400 “Rubikon”. NATO naming calls MGK-400/500/520/540 all “Shark Gill” so used Shark Nose to differentiate.

Shark Rib hull mounted sonar. Shark Gill plus hull mounted flank array, +1 sensitivity in passive mode.

Salmon Beak hull mounted sonar, Salmon Tail towed array. MGK-540M “Kizhuch”. Kizhuch – Coho Salmon - “They also develop a large kype (hooked beak) during spawning.” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coho_salmon) So Salmon and beak it is O.O

Vessels:

All subs active sonar reflection calculated – the default values I find a bit coarse and sometimes off.

Subs’ surface and submerged speeds changed iaw www.russianships.info (http://www.russianships.info)

Subs’ missile load dialed back a bit – basically 1 missile per tube and no weapon if it’s 650mm tubes without supporting RPK-7 Veter.

All subs tube reload time bumped to 120 seconds.

All Soviet SSN/GN/BNs have SS-N-16 and USET-80. (The Alfa is back to AI config. AI cannot use missile in torpedo tubes.)

Sierra: Sonar Shark Gill -> Shark Rib.

Akula: Cavitation param: 19,-90. Sonar Shark Gill -> Salmon Beak. Shark Tail -> Salmon Tail.

Charlie2: Sonar Shark Gill -> Shark Nose.

Oscar: Self noise 132 -> 127. (949A/AM)

Deltal3: Sonar Shark Gill -> Shark Nose. Towed array deleted.

Kilo imp: + SS-N-15 missile x2. Cavitation param: 36,-340. Self-noise 120->110. Sonar: Shark Gill -> Shark Nose.

Kilo: + SS-N-15 missile x2. Torpedo TEST-71M->TEST-71MK. Cavitation param: 40,-340. Self noise 125->120. Sonar: Shark Gill -> Shark Nose.

Song: Cavitation param: 36,-340.

Ming: Cavitation param: 40,-340. Self noise 125->118.

Tango: Cavitation param: 40,-340. Torpedo TEST-71->TEST-71MK.

Poti: Sonar Wolf Paw -> Bull Nose. Torpedo SET-40 -> UMGT-1.

Update 5

Campaign update:

Adds ASUW_Reinforce and SSN_Reinforce to simulate China sending ships/subs to help Russia. Made Hofn and Torshavn into airbases for maritime search in the Atlantic.

Readjusted force composition in many missions, mainly due to an original game bug. Yasens no longer acts as attack boats – delegated to new class Akula2 instead.

Sub_resupply_1 divided to 2 missions. The one in Barents Sea resupplies both SSN and SSBN/SSGNs so the latter can get caught. Adds a couple more SSN_wolfpack/ASUW_strike missions.

Changed some mission debrief and campaign event art pics.

Vessels upgrade:

Updated Russian subs tube count, original game often omitted 2 tubes. (info mostly russianships.info/eng/)

Updated Russian surface combatants to modern day configs in order to bridge the gap between modern day subs and cold war era surface ships. List of ship changes:

New weapon: SET-65K torpedo, 3k yds seeker range, 42kt speed, 18k yds range. Basically used by all Russian surface ships in the mod except Grisha3. Apparently the USET-80 is never used on surface ships but submarine only.
CIWS: original CIWS angles way too simplied. Front/rear 60deg arc has no coverage for any of the ships. It’s not like the AI is intelligent enough to turn when missile comes.
Bull Horn sonar: Should be MGK-335 Platina and better than Bull Nose ala MG-312/322/332. In game sensor value sets Bull Horn worse so adjusted.

Ships changed:

Kiev: Adds SS-N-15 missile (what-if the FRAS-1 nuclear ASW missiles were changed to conventional ones). Horse Jaw/Horse Tail sonar.

Moskva: Adds the torpedo setup from the 68 version. Adds CIWS missile defense. Adds SS-N-15 missile same as Kiev.
Video of Moskva in action:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMiIo44yRGM

Kirov: SS-N-14 -> SS-N-16.

Udaloy: name change to Udaloy II. New Ox Yoke/Ox Tail sonar. SS-N-14 -> SS-N-16.

Kara: Ox Yoke/Ox Tail sonar. Hormone -> Helix.

Kresta2: Bull Horn/Mare tail sonar. A what-if to make the ship relevant in ASW, seems real ones didn’t get a chance to upgrade before the fall of Soviet Union.

Kashin: Name changed to Kashin Mod. Bull Horn/Horse Tail sonar. Adds CIWS.

Krivak1: name changed to Krivak IV. Moose Jaw/Mare Tail sonar. Torpedo TEST-71->SET-65K.

Grisha3: Torpedo TEST-71M->TEST-71MK. Fix for center screw not rotating.

All other ships in the campaign: Torpedo USET-80/SET-65->SET-65K. CIWS angles adjusted.

______________________________

A campaign to play with the 688i and Seawolf in the cold war setting against the soviet monsters.

The backstory is not changed, 2 or 3 times later I just spacebar thru them anyway. So this is only a txt edit:

1) Adds SSBN_wolfpack missions. Basically they're replicas of the final mission but to make SSBN hunting more common. Also adds the SSBN atlantic breakout mission from the 68 campaign but changes it to SSGNs.

2) More modern soviet subs. Subs in missions are upgraded 1 tier. e.g. Sierra becomes an akula, victor3 becomes an alfa, kilo becomes the kilo improved, whiskey becomes a romeo, and so forth. Plus the Yasen is included in all the SSGN missions and the akula has chance to appear if any capital ship (kiev/moskva/kirov) could. Juliet and november will no longer show up.

3) More chance to encounter capital ships. Kiev/Moskva/Kirov is more likely to appear in missions. Plus the carriers could show up in random asw patrols.

4) Small changes: Strategic map time compression halved. Strategic points and event intervals timed 1.5 to lengthen the campaign. Random patrols gets a small strategic point value.

Statistically, upon a new campaign mission, there is roughly about (calculated using mission chances):
5% chance of encountering the Yasen;
15% chance of encountering the Akula;
10% chance of encountering the Kiev;
10% chance of encountering the Moskva;
12% chance of encountering the Kirov;

If playing an unmodded 688i be prepared to perform some superman style dodging as the Yasen and Akula could get the first shot off with missile torps before they're detected at all.

Actually, the Victor III is a much newer design then the Alfa.

Also more Victor III's in service than Alfa's since most of them had reactor accidents/ issues.

and update...

Sub v sub battles still not hard enough so upgraded 1 more tier. Yasens and Akulas becomes rather common, adds Song as top tier SS. No more victor1s and Romeos.
(Ideally the only SSNs should be victor3s and up but a bit hard to let go of captain tupolev)

Reduced chances of insertion/land strike/ss specops missions, increased chance of SSN wolfpack/SS wolfpack/asuw strike missions.

Target list clean up.

Well, the force with google is pretty strong, despite all of its controversies of late.... it's got noise levels on victor1, charlie1, yankee and delta2. (i see its already been mentioned in one of the threads here!)

https://apps.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/c010105.pdf

Made them into a graph.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/cT7G3Ar4y7ZM1qq3AUJvcseyUYGtTV09dGA-lYjAubrMQChXjNBrShcnMU323GZjCSI01vC9XhE-aaI-LtXTilTyWHeqg7Di_y86zwjCneoA5snIQ8RBf3CzJD9e5NsVkb GPYfvSmFvAorXMiRX5e8v0Hpr-HfVdkwE7WwnBhtiVjR4jPISYpV14wvJz8BMzsxo5QYpd-hLO0MF1OzU0TfyS6BNcgGS0JUWWvEP6jHVuCAtX0yYZf96iiBb uaJAhqKHXD-VegVO5HutHnBtAT0MIOCiWlvbfRdJLsK8GflkTZzjPQPxv_LBa FH-1agQ5AYFX89RmV63CbOmv8tvgha7Og0sO3GDv-WDhxYLXkN8tjMZiaRj3b9W65Io4TEB5tNjhLvWRvjnOfnOfGk4 yniWWEEEm_e18z6xq7fC9r-2sHNZMjH3WviyaY-s010sJzNC6fSkHyCTOoM4n0Ko2UsQtgDEqoYtc_tEOWehQYsuy VGLcLzA3HbtPiLmf_Yb0cLAhHoY3rxiw0tPvUn-RHz_CmdIK2VoZdBc_MFjEiZBnYhb7heiLFsUj592H8_iQJfK77 mnMqnENIiWTA7FcnH1RLkwMz21Ut9TMZ_PcYAIZqzEvGp6EOFg xB4IZpq1_7Hz0U--vsioGMdoC3nALjNG2YYl9IEX4csVanpk8u_VE-vaIvr3umW2r2ZvU61vtsVGx-WlqjL7hCteWQYWinJET=w820-h742-no

The report unfortunately only said victor and charlie submarine, and as of 1977 there're both victor 1 and 2, charlie 1 and 2. Assumed 'twas victor1/charlie1 since their curves are smooth and beautiful, while the newer Deta2/Yankee's curves are a bit rugged, so guessing the victor/charlie had a lot of samples to average out the data.

Anyway the most important thing I learned was one sub could be quieter than the other while slow, but noisier when fast, when comparing yankee v victor/yankee v charlie. Also the victor is just quieter than charlie at all ranges which in CW they have the same noise. hmmm...
