Cool

Those extra files, assuming you are using GWX, don’t need to be dropped in JSGME. They have their own exe you have to double click to automatically install :yep: —-> Called GWX3 SH3Cmdr3.2

Now you need to get the TKSS18 German U-Boat Compilation mods to be fully amazed!
(You can ask on dedicated thread, there is also a special order of activation for those mods - i have done a sensor adaptation to be fully GWX compatible)

Fifi,I think we are talking about 2 different things here.
I know that I must run the GWX3 SH3Cmdr3.2 for those files. I was talking about the 2 files inside the SH3 Commander folder that comes with the ARB Wide Gui 1920x1080 V03 mod, I was asking if they had to be enabled via JSGME inside the SH3 Commander installation directory.
My other question was regarding the "Adaptation for English & Deutch" folder, also enclosed in the mod... :hmmm:
Those 2 folders are still making me scratch my head...

The 2 TGA coming with ARB for Commander, you just copy and paste into your Commander appropriate folder. It’s a fix for the salvo marks.
The adaptation for english and Deutch, i don’t use them...so dunno.

As far as I can tell the "The adaptation for English and Deutch" Fixes the positions of the base locations in the mini map @ Flotilla Selection Screen.

Fifi:
With your clarification and RickStar's reply, everything is clear now. Thank you very much for your help and feedback. Just in case, this is the content of the mod after unpacking the RAR:

As you can see there is the folder named "Adaptation for English and Deutsch", but RickStar explained what it is for.

Without the files from > Adaptation for English & Deutsch, you will notice the locations are all out of position due to the map being extended to fit 1920x1080 the mod corrects the said locations as in the screenshot in above link. Compare to before fix below

Hello everyone. I have a problem with this mod. Map is divided into two parts as you can see in picture attachments and I can't fix it no matter what I do.

I installed mod into MODS dir and activated it in JSGME. Then patched sh3.exe with Tychosh3Patch.

My installation of ARB created a problem with the 3D view in that the clickable stations no longer worked consistently. I saw in another post that replacing the cameras.dat file resolved the issue.

I used the file from the MaGui final version. All the 3D views work now, but I notice that in my attack periscope (F3), the reticle is now shifted to the right and down. As an example, when I lock onto a ship, it is no longer in the center of the periscope.

Any advice or alternate cameras.dat to try?

Thanks!

First timer using ARB Widescreen, last night I stalked a merchant gather all my data on him by speed matching and slowly steering till I matched his course. I set up a great 90° shot and when I go to press the unlock tdc button on the tdc and set all my values for my eel it wont let me switch it to red so I can manually adjust the values. It wants you to id the ship with the rec manual and wants you to use the little clipboard menu to gather all data. Do you have to set up the tdc like this? Seems kind of gamey, I want to manually set up my tdc. Am I missing something or is this by design? I'm running NYGM super mod, I downloaded ThePrody's version of ARB for NYGM from his mediafire. I love this gui but if I cant unlock the tdc and manually set up my torpedoes by eyeing it I can't get into this gui.

Yes, that button is not working. Was wondering if there's something I need to do first to be able to press it. I know with the attack disc you need to click on the weapons officer tab and then hover over the top of the screen and then it will show up. Was wondering if there was something, similar with that tdc button

Try Ctrl+T

Hello guys! I keep getting the problem that the navigation map is split down the middle, and I have done everything that I could find in order to fix this. I do believe the problem is that I can't run the .batch file when I'm trying to patch the game. Every time i try it says either:

"'binpatch' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

Fail.

Press any key to continue . . ."

or

"Offset out of range: 0xa5dc6

Fail.

Press any key to continue . . ."

This problem goes for every patch of fix that requires me running a batch file
Can anyone help me with this issue?

Hi Niccerman, did you ever manage to solve this? I am running into the same issues.

Nicolai

Has anyone tried installing rudewarrior's Just Follow Orders! mod with this GUI?

Any recommendations on the changes to menu_1024_768.ini regarding the 6 templates added by the JFO Mod? Specifically the entries for x/y position and x/y pixel width/height (Pos=a, b, c, d)?

Hi,

I have been playing with Magui for a while, then came across this gorgeous beast! I absolutely love it but have one slight problem...

In Magui, you can use the arrow keys to move the map when plotting courses etc. This saves from having to zoom out then zoom in again on a guestimated spot. I've tried the arrow keys wit this mod but it doesn't work. Am I missing something or is this not a feature for this mod?

Thanks!

I experience the same when moving the map around with high time compression rates... 256 is fine, but 512 and above cause that problem...

IMHO it’s the processor overcharged by calculating … the more you TC on nav map, the more your processor is stressed, furthermore when action is near by :yep:
Thousands of calculations X 1024 times … just imagine …
Even good I7 latest generation are overcharged (SH3 is not even optimized for those processors due to its age)
Not to say the more you TC, the more SH3 can be unstable and brings sides issues (like time & weather slipping off, planes never showing etc)
To realize the complexity, just open up a career patrol in your mission editor...

I was actually using windows desktop resolution but I also changed gpu software settings like the picture you sent, but there is no change.

However game works properly with high resolution 1920x1080 if I set my desktop to 1024x768 edit main.cfg to fulscreen.

Hi! My first post here.

Having installed SH3 to the letter as prescribed by 4H_Ccrashh, and with Grey Wolves GOLD 3.0 as the main MOD. I am curious about the operation of the
RAOBF, only because no matter where I click it wont appear around the periscope view.

Is this functional with "ARB WideGui 1920x1080" installed by default, or is there another mod to install to make operational?

diego_gut
08-16-20, 02:08 PM
It is included, you have to click on top of the periscope.

Captain Johno

Thanks for reply:
I have checked the cfg of the AOBFButton just to confirm what this button looks like, so I know I'm clicking in the right place! Every other function works including all the attack disks, but after two complete installs to the letter I'm beginning to pull hair. The RAOBF just isn't responding !

Captain Johno
08-17-20, 12:44 PM
Thought I'd go back to the source and read the release notes for MaGui F "RAOBF wheels", and particular reference to note5:

"At the start options of game ,you must have the ''Manual Targeting System'' CHECKED and the ''No Weapon Officer Assistance'' UNCHECKED."
https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=166320

And that fixed it !!

Because I'm new to SH3, and attempting training missions with mods , I wasn't even aware of these campaign settings. So I've spent this week re-installing because I was sure the chronometer worked independently from the attack periscope (Fixed) and the RAOBF was not functional due to an install problem (Fixed).

So now onto some further training!
Happy Hunting !

Hi all,

I've recently installed this fantastic mod (after a few unsuccessful attempts - I'm very new to Mods) but am having problems getting it to load properly in campaign mode. I've been able to load single missions but whenever I try to start a new campaign from the map board in the Captain's office it loads to around four-fifths full then crashes back to desktop.

I am using it in conjunction with GWX3.0 and SH3 Commander.

Would be really grateful of any help

Sorry, I probably haven't explained myself too well here. I patched my sh3.exe with the .bat file in the main V16B1 patch kit before adding the Supplement mod to JSGME. Do I need to install the 4GB patch separately as well?

diego_gut

You do not need to install the 4Gb patch if you already applied Hsie patch. You do need to enable the 4Gb patch by running the options selector. You also need enough RAM in your computer and a 64 bit OS. I would say at least 8Gb or RAM.

Yes it works with GWX, Ccom12, NYGM etc :yep:
Just unzip and put it to your MODS folder that JSGME should have created...
Make sure of correct folder path in MODS... should be ARB Wide GUI/data etc (cause i remember there are some add-on mods inside too.

I'm having same issue with the tycho bat giving off an error and won't run. Fresh install with windows so I think I'm missing a correct visual c++ package but I don't know which one.

EDIT: I fixed this by installing every visual c++ package i could find 2005-2015. Not sure which one did the trick but it worked...

according to geralt's post that he said text color from orange maybe with hardcoded, it is beyond my ability in programming.

I've tried sometrhing similar using Sober's rig for red mod idea.
I wanted to change color of the main concole text.

Bad news: I haven't found any way to change 'highlighted' text color from orange:damn:...I've looked through the menu_1024_768.ini file... nope... maybe it's hardcoded

Good news: you don't need it I found these things
- you can change color of font*.tga
- you can change the color of frames when select an officer and - other ingame texts in the menu*.ini file

small example what I've learnd:
I wanted the main console text not to be white/ornge
I use the the font 'FPHunt15.tga' so I took this file and change the color for red in any photo/graphical editing software and saved as 'FPHunt16.tga' then I added new font to menu.ini and change the font udes in the main concole

changing color of frames when selecting officers
as you know the color is in hex so it's RRGGBBxx I use orange (D26400AA) and dark red (CC0000AA), the xx also in hex value means (I hope) the opacity of the color

and back again to the main console... I found that the orange 'highlighted' color it's not always orange
It depends on the basic color in font*.tga file
when the default text is e.g. blue then the highlighted is dark grey/black I guess it's the defalt (blue) + highlight (orange) = dark grey

hope this will help I'll add some screens later

You need to change the entire [G17 ] block there are lines responsible for the background, arrows (up and down) and text. Not only in I6!

Hi, guys. I don't think anyone else has expressed an issue with this -- or I just didn't search for it fully enough -- but I just want to confirm that what I'm experiencing is part of the ARB WideGUI 1980x1080 mod. It seems the periscope and free camera blur when cruising at any speed above Ahead Slow / 4 knots?

If possible, what would I edit to remove the blur from the Free Camera?

Hi mate and welcome. This is a feature of the h.sie patch which tries to simulate periscope vibration at higher speeds. You'll read all about it in the h.sie pdf manual. It can be controlled with the Periscopes Fix checkbox found in the h.sie options selector. I'm not sure how to remove it only from the free camera, but there is possibly a way.

As said Stork, it’s coming from Hsie patch and it is tied to free external camera, but with no way to unties it...
You can stop this effect by unchecking the option Periscope Fix in Hsie (via the option selector) If you don’t like it, or adjust the speed of this effect to your liking in Hsie.ini with notepad (the file should be at game root)

Thanks, guys.

Another question:

I would like to try to put the Attack Scope Reticule in makman94's MaGui mod, into the the ARB WideGUI mod. Silly me, I thought it would be just a matter of copying either the manos7 or manos8 .tgas, rename one of them to AttackScopeReticule, and that'd be that.

I'm hoping someone can point me toward any other .tgas and whatever .cfgs I need to edit to make the swap.

So... ähm... looks like I didn't install this mod properly. I simply installed it via JSGME and did not run the batch file instead of the way explained in the first post.

Making it look like this.

I installed it the way I did (except for forgeting the Tycho.bat) because it is the same order as stated by wolfpack 345 in his video descriptions:

*MODS*** (In install order)
**Grey Wolves Expansion
*Sh3 Commander
Thomsen's Sound Pack V3.2cg

Patch Rubini´s Underwater dust&plancton v1
M.E.P v6
Optional - ShipVanishingHull for MEP v6
Optional - FSF for MEP v6
TKSS18 German U-Boats Compilation No Eagle
German U-Boats Compilation 2 (only VIIB & VIIC models by WISE)

M.E.P v6- VisualSensors for GWX3
H.sie Hard-coded fixes.

Can I still fix this, without removing all mods? If not, what would be the proper order of installation to get ARB running correctly?

You have to apply the TychoSh3Patch_v3 that's included with ARB WideGui v0.3.0 - if you try and use the latest Tycho patch it won't work.

Bit of help if poss chaps,
Running this mod i'm all zoomed in, like i'm stuck in the bottom left of the screen at old res size, yet without running this mod i'm working fine at 1920 x 1080.
what am i doing wrong here?

This mod didn't seem to do the res fix direct so I have ran the SP2 rez fix, like i say without this mod enabled everything runs normally, with this mod enabled i'm zoomed in on the bottom left of the screen and missing options on menu screens etc.

i've missed something I know I have but damned if I know what?

I've been out of the loop for years and came back two weeks ago when I saw a video on Youtube of a guy attacking a convoy in SH3. It blew me away the improved graphics and widescreen.

I dug out my old SH3 game and installed it only to have my Windows 7 tell me it cannot run the game. We've all seen the error, about how the game only works in XP etc etc...

I poured through forums and despite my many tries I could not get the game to load. Fortunately for me there was STEAM and $3.95 later I was ready.

Of course when I started the game I got the "Cannot Initialize 3D".

I remembered long ago that I had to drop my desktop resolution and the game would start. This I did, The max resolution I can get and still have the game start is 1600 x 900.

So, 1st hurdle down, the game was running.

With the widescreen monitor it looked squashed. I could adjust the monitor and set my display to 4:3 but I HAD to have that pretty widescreen.

I am a reasonably intelligent, bi-pedal, carbon based unit with opposing thumbs so I thought "How hard can this be?"

I downloaded ARB WideGui 1920x1080 with associated files (I thought) and I did get the game to look great but my navigational map was messed up. I had two maps side by side and neither was accurate.

I held my nose and dove back in the forums and tried everything I could find.
Talk about confusing.

I was searching through threads that were many years old.
Threads with links to other posts,, what this guy tried and that guy tried and where this file was needed but the other guy said he got it to work by doing this or that with a link to yet another forum thread with links to even more files. Many of the links to get files to "fix" the problem were no longer valid.
If I had a dollar for every Error #404 "file not found" I'd have enough money to hire some dude from the Best Buy's "Geek Squad" to fix problem.

I was ready to go all "Elvis Presley" on my computer. (Elvis Presley, an American Rock and Roll singer from back in the 1950's who shot his TV, am I dating myself? )

It took a few days and lots of beer (for nerves)but FINALLY, it was working.
Problem is, when I was done I had been through so many forums, been on many tangents that I could not for the life of me remember how I got where I was with a working game. If my computer were to crash and I wanted to set up SH3 I'd be up the proverbial effluent estuary without a means of locomotion. I needed to duplicate my success and write it all down.

There was no easy VERY BASIC step by step guide. so I thought I'd write one. I hope this helps........

Thank you SO much for your installation guide, 4H_Ccrashh.

My story is almost identical to your own, from playing SH3 many years ago, watching Wolfpack345 videos on YouTube and frantically searching the web for the files and instructions. I had tried several times to get it working until I found your guide on page 11.

Now, I can begin my hunting once again

FYI: I have SH3 installed from disc, not Steam, and your instructions still work fine. The only differences being that I skipped steps 5 and 6 (despite your warning) as I didn't require the V16B1-Patch (HSIE) - I know what you mean about trying to find that one!

Also, I installed GWX 3.0 afterwards and all I had to do was follow the instructions given in the GWX install about rolling back (removing) all mods using JSGME before installing GWX. This only involved the two ARB WideGui mods and putting them back in the same order as originaly instructed, once GWX had finished installing.

So, many thanks for your help and, if I may point out an irony, your instructions were also difficult to find. I only came across them by reading through all the pages in this thread. I am sure others would be grateful if they were made easier to find.

:Kaleun_Salute:
Commence basking!!!

OK, Perhaps I spoke too soon. The 1920x1080 mod worked but, like many others, I am still not able to replicate the quality of the image seen in Wolpack345's YouTube vid's. I have rebuilt SH3 many times (with and without GWX and/or Commander) but cannot get close. I have tried the same mod's as WP345 and this is as close as I can get:
Mine3683 WP3453684 Mine3685 WP3453686

Mods list:
3687

I get the feeling that I am missing something obvious but can't see the woods for the trees :hmmm:. Unfortunatly, I don't get an awful lot of time to chase this up (too many papers to grade/mark) so i would appreciate some help.

If you think this would be better as a new post I can do that.

Many thanks in advance.

Prof.

:D Happy Days! In the hour since I wrote the above plea I found the problem. It was an un-zipping mess-up. Two of my folders were un-zipped incorrectly (my fault). Both TKSS18 German U-Boats Compilation folders had another folder within them of the same name. The data folders were in the second level folder . A stupid fumble when I switched from BreeZip to WinRar for un-zipping.

I will leave this up in case someone else finds it useful.

Now I have to do a final, clean install and then I have some beans to serve.

Very impressive :Kaleun_Thumbs_Up: I will follow the development with interest. Any chance that it will be able to be used with auto' targeting at some point in the future? I like my crew to manage some of the tasks because there would be no need for them otherwise.

Also, I am particularly keen to see how compatible it is with other mods such as the German U-Boats Compilation.

Well done, Kaleun.

That's good to hear. Yes, that is a good idea as it gave the impression that it wouldn't work on auto'.

Do you happen to know if anyone is working on an update to the German U-Boats Compilation? I have both versions (I am only aware of two) and, although they are fantastic, they don't appear to cover all WW2 U-Boats, yet.

That is understandable. Worthwhile installing, if you get a chance or need a break. If you don't have much time, Wolpack345 does a quick 15 min' video demo'ing the German U-Boat Compilation, on YouTube, that you can view here (http://https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrsRozRos8I).

There was no easy VERY BASIC step by step guide. so I thought I'd write one.

So here we go.

FOUR THINGS FIRST....
ONE: My rig is an Intel i7 4790K, 4.00 GHz processor with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit running 16 Gig of RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti video with a Sound Blaster Z card.

TWO: This will ONLY work with a clean fresh version of the STEAM installed Silent Hunter 3.

C: PLEASE take your time and follow each step VERY carefully. Don't try to jump ahead.

And SIX: We have some downloading to do. I have made sure that the files you are going to download are the ones that will WORK. Please do not think that you already have that file in your library and skip over. I can't tell you the nightmare that was finding a TychoSh3patch, and when I did that link all of a sudden died so I uploaded the one I have THAT WORKS on Mediafire.

EDIT: If at some point some of these links don't work send me a PM and I will upload the files I downloaded from these links to MediaFire. All of the links works as of the date of this post.

You need five things to make this work.

Six, if you want to use Grey Wolves. (optional NOT REQUIRED)

We are going to need a way to keep all of this organized so first things first.

Create a folder on your desktop called TOOLS to put the following files in so they are easy to find later.

1. The HSIE Patch: https://www.sendspace.com/file/57cxse
The file you want is called "V16B1-Patch-installed.7z"
I know ,, I know.... Every thread I found referred to the patch as the HSIE patch. That caused a lot of confusion. Want to spend an hour or two with your eyeballs melting in your sockets? Do a Google search for the HSIE patch. You will never see "V16B1" anywhere....
FUN!!!!
It is the file you want. Trust me, I mean,, hey,,, would I lie to you?

2. The 4GB patch that lets SH3 access more of your computers' memory.
https://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/4GB-Patch.shtml

3. ARB WideGui 1920X1080
https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=232178
make sure to get both files, the 3.0 and the 3.1 Hotfix

4. Tycho Sh3 Patch
Now I know there are a lot of links for this file. None of them worked. THIS ONE DOES!!
http://www.mediafire.com/file/rjr3crrwxetevpc/Tychos_Patch_%2528that_works%2529.rar/file

5. JSGME MOD Loader
https://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/Miscellaneous/Generic-Mod-Enabler.shtml

6. OPTIONAL Download Grey Wolves Gold : http://www.thegreywolves.com/

Ok we now have everything we need, ,, except more beer.

So here we go ,, Buckle up and lets "kick this pig"

STEP ONE : Pry open your wallet and spend the $3.95 to purchase and then install Silent Hunter 3 from Steam.

STEP TWO: Go into your Steam Silent Hunter 3 game folder, and copy SH3.exe (application file) to a safe place on your desktop. This is a precaution to save a lot of time if you make a mistake.

You can find it here..
(DRIVE WHATEVER you installed steam into):\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Silent Hunter 3\

STEP THREE: Adjust your windows desktop resolution to 1600x900 (or lower) so the game will start.

Test your game by starting it to make sure it runs. If it does (and it will) shut down the game and you can return your desktop resolution back to its normal setting.

STEP FOUR: Create a folder on your desktop called WORKING.

STEP FIVE: READ ALL OF STEP 5 BEFORE CLICKING ANYTHING!!!
In your TOOLS folder that you created extract the files from "V16B1-Patch-installed" into your "WORKING" folder. This will create a folder in "WORKING" called "V16B1-Patch-installed".

Go into that folder and CUT and PASTE all of the files (including the "tool" folder) into the Silent Hunter 3 game folder in STEAM..... BUT WAIT!!!!

THERE IS A TRAP!!!!!

When you paste / copy them to the SH3 game folder a window will pop up asking you if you want to "Copy and Replace" the SH3.exe.

DO NOT REPLACE THE FILE. Got that? DO NOT REPLACE THE SH3.exe file.

If you do the patch will not work.

If for some reason you did not read all of STEP 5 before clicking and did replace the SH3.exe don't worry.. Just copy and paste the SH3.exe file that you saved in STEP TWO above and do STEP FIVE again.

If you did not do STEP TWO then uninstall Silent Hunter 3 from your STEAM be sure the folder is deleted and install from STEAM again and start over.

STEP SIX: Go into your Steam Silent Hunter 3 game folder and look for a file called PATCH_SH3.

Double Click on it, A DOS window will open asking you to press any key. Do this a couple of times and the patch will make adjustments to your Steam SH3.EXE file.

STEP SEVEN: You can delete (if any) the files in the WORKING folder.

STEP EIGHT: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file 4gb_patch " into your "WORKING" folder.

Go into your "WORKING" folder CUT and PASTE the file " 4gb_patch " to your STEAM Silent Hunter 3 Folder.

STEP NINE: Go into your Silent Hunter 3 folder and double-click on the 4gb_patch. It will open a window listing all of the files in your game directory. Look for the SH3 application its a RED icon called SH3 and click on it one time to highlight it, then click "open" in the bottom right of the window. A new window will pop up saying "Executable successfully patched". Click "OK".

STEP TEN: Delete any files in the "WORKING" Folder. (There should not be any if you CUT and PASTED.)

STEP ELEVEN: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file " Tychos Patch (that works)" to your "WORKING" folder. CUT and PASTE the five files in the "WORKING" to your Silent Hunter 3 game.

STEP TWELVE: Go into your Silent Hunter 3 game folder and look for a batch file called "Tychosh3patch"

There are two files with the same name. You want the batch file that has little gears in the icon.

Double click.. A DOS window opens , "Press any key to continue..."
The window goes away.

STEP THIRTEEN: Delete all the files in your "WORKING FOLDER" (should be empty if you CUT and PASTED)

STEP FOURTEEN: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file from " jsgme_2.6.0" into your "WORKING" folder.

STEP FIFTEEN: In your "WORKING" folder run the program "jsgme_setup". The install program will ask you to select a destination folder. Click browse and direct the program to your Silent Hunter 3 folder in STEAM.

(DRIVE WHATEVER you installed steam into):\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Silent Hunter 3\
Make sure to check the box to create a Desktop Icon

STEP SIXTEEN: Delete the files in your "WORKING" folder.

STEP SEVENTEEN: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file ARB WideGui 1920x1080 v0.3 into your "WORKING" folder.

STEP EIGHTEEN: In your "WORKING" folder cut and paste the folder "ARB WideGui 1920x1080" and put it in the 'MODS" folder found inside the "Silent Hunter 3" game folder.

STEP NINETEEN: Delete all of the files in your "WORKING" folder you don't need them unless you want to apply some of the other options. But they are not needed to get the game to run in widescreen.

I don't know if you noticed but there was a folder called " TychoSh3Patch_v3", you don't need it. The one you already installed in STEP TWELVE works. The one you just deleted does not. Go figure....

STEP TWENTY: In your "WORKING" folder create a folder called "ARB WideGui Fix"

STEP TWENTY-ONE: Go into your "TOOLS" folder and extract the file " ARB WideGui 1920x1080 v0.3.1" into the folder you just created in your "WORKING" folder called " ARB WideGui Fix".

After you put the files in " ARB WideGui Fix " go in that folder and delete the "changes" and "how to install" text files.

STEP TWENTY-TWO: In your "WORKING" folder CUT and PASTE the folder "ARB WideGui Fix" to the "MODS" folder in Silent Hunter 3.

STEP TWENTY-THREE: On your Desktop you should have an Icon to starts the JSGME Mod loader program.
It looks like a big yellow "G".

Run that program. A window will pop up. showing the name of you MODS folder. in this case it says MODS Click "ok"

In the left side of the window you will see the available MODS. The two ARB WideGui mods you just put in should be listed.

Click on "ARB WideGUI 1920x1080" to highlight it then click on the little ">" to load the mod. It should move to the right.

Now Click on the mod "ARB WideGui Fix" Click the ">" and load that mod. A warning message will pop up.

It's ok, Click "Yes". This will grey out the first mod you loaded. That is normal.

CLOSE the JSGME Program.

STEP TWENTY-FOUR: Delete (if any) files in your "WORKING" folder.

STEP TWENTY-FIVE: Change your Desktop Resolution to 1600x900 or lower and start the game.
The game will come up in widescreen and your navigation map will look correct.

CONGRATS!

At this point if you want you can install Grey Wolves GOLD 3.0.

Before you do make sure you first start JSGME and unload all mods. After Grey Wolves is finished installing start up JSGME and load the ARB WideGui file and fix and your all set.

I will now sit back and bask in your adoration of my brilliance.

Just kidding.. I hope this helps.

Good Hunting!!

I have followed this strategy step by step and am getting an issue in the Navigation map where I have 2 maps side by side instead of one map covering the entire screen.

I can't imagine I am the first one with this issue. Can anyone point me in the right direction for resolution.

Thanks to all.
Good hunting!

@Professor M

Thank you!

@jdrumsr

TychoSH3Patch does not patch the map by default, ARB comes with a configured TychoSH2Patch.map that you can use or it could be a reference so you know what to modify.

Dude, you can just merge the 'data' folder from the "ARB WideGui Fix" folder into the 'data' folder from the "ARB WideGUI 1920x1080" folder and click yes to overwrite the changes (which is exactly what JSGME is doing) and make one mod out of them. By running the "fix" after the 'ARB WideGUI 1920x1080' JSGME is just overwriting the files anyways.

Long time on and off lurker and player of SH3 and SH5. This ARB WideGui has rekindled my love for SH3. I seem to have an issue with my Attack and Obs Periscope reticles being misaligned. The green and black cross hairs do not line up. When pressing "lock" the green one locks to the ship.

I'm using GWX and a small amount of mods. Attached image shows my mods.

Unless I'm totally ignorant of something, let me know what you think?

Are you trying to set 1920x1080 to a 1280 x 720 screen?

I'm a little puzzled. Not sure why mine would be running at 1280 x 720. I have a 1920 x 1080 monitor and basically installed straight from scratch.

SH3 1.4b
GWX3
then
ARB WideGui
4Gb patch

:k_confused:

Maybe I try again from scratch after messing with some stuff. I am running my rig at 1920x1080, so I'm not sure what's going on.

Also, I did check my menu_1024_768.ini file and it has this on the indicated section, but I would think my resolution is what is messing with it anyway:

Okay, now I got it running at 1920 x 1080. It was a setting in my NVIDIA control panel where I had scaling by "aspect ratio" selected, rather than "full-screen" which I had changed a week or so ago while troubleshooting when I was having loading crashes in SH3 without the 4Gb patch.

The resolution is now changed, but the reticles are still misaligned.

So I started disabling some of my GWX mods. After deleting a batch of them the problem now seems to be fixed. I'll have to narrow it down to the exact one. Don't have time right now, my wife has COVID-19 and I need to attend to her.

Anvar1061, I'll have to figure out the pixel adjustments if I run into it some more. Thanks for your help.

Hello!

I'm experiencing a problem with the ARB WideGui 1920 x 1080. Everything looks just fine and I like it a lot but it looks like my screen is too small to fit the whole thing... The lower left corner is as it is supposed to be (I think :hmmm:) but the top right portion of the screen is somehow cut outside my monitor. It seems like the 1920 x 1080 doesn't actually fit my screen, although that's the resolution I'm using in my monitor.

I followed 4H_Ccrashh's STEP by STEP guide to make ARB WideGui 1920x1080 work in the STEAM version of SH3 by the book (although I replaced the beer portion with some cheap whiskey :o) and I'm not using any other mods at the moment. I figured it would be easier to first get this 1920 x 1080 fix to working order before installing any other of those wonderful mods there are out there.

There are some screenshots below that probably describe the problem better than my commentary.

I appreciate your help with this problem!

diego_gut
12-19-20, 04:48 PM
They both require changes to menu_1024x768.ini, so when you install one you overwrite the other. To fix it, you need to merge the changes into one file. I suggest using notepad++ with a compare plugin to find the differences and coping them into the other file. If you make any changes you have to renumber every item in the group.

You also need to apply TychoSh3Patch if you have not.

Tnx for the reply, yes the TychoSh3Patch is applied and I compared the two files with notepad++ but the arb recon book fix menu_1024x768.ini doesn't have anything extra to copy to the chronometer menu.ini.

First, I'd like to thank 4H_Ccrashh for the work he has put into resolving the map issue. I was having the same problem with the map, but the ARB wide screen was working other than that.

I followed 4H_Ccrashh's instructions to the tee and now the game loads in (in both single missions and career mode) fine - no crashing, but the game starts in pause mode and you cannot get it out of pause (backspace, p, + -, etc.).

Has anyone else seen or heard of that happening? I have played this game off and on since it came out new (I'm old) and I love it.

Thanks guys

TychoSh3Patch.map is already configured for different colors, I have not tried to change them yet. The patch comes with a readme that explains how and the file itself is commented so you know what to change. You need to find out the hex code of the color you want and use it in the file, most graphics programs can give you the code you want.

"Adaptation for English and Deutsch" provides a flotillas.cfg file but it will show wrong starting positions. The one in DGUI works for ARB and has the correct positions. This is for GWX, other supermods may make changes to flotillas.cfg that would not be accounted for.

Using ARB now with NYGM.

I am mostly a 1939 to 1942 era player. However sometimes I do venture in to 1943.

In ARB, how do I set the parameters of a ladder capable torpedo like FAT.

There are no extended controls like the stock game or visible graphic in the F6 window.

Do I just set the range and that range setting is where the ladder torpedo starts its' pattern?

Leoz
01-26-21, 11:17 PM
The following can be ignored and/or whatever, it is just a quibble and this after all is a game. :O: I blame Hitman, as his excellent work has turned me into a periscope snob.

On NYGM, ARB shows interesting scope zoom settings. 5x and 10x on the attack scope and 4.5x and 11x on the observation scope.

Around 40-41 they started making scopes a similar specification.
1. No whiz-wheel / stadimeter: visual only
2. 1.5x and 6x zoom on both attack and observation/night scopes. Example below.

https://i.imgur.com/As8eR0r.jpg

3. Trivia, this photo of the observation/nightscope is a monicular eyepiece, the black disk above was an option to fit a binocular eyepiece resulting in an inverted "V" as seen below.

https://i.imgur.com/P23LuG4.jpg

4. I now use silent editor to change both periscopes to 1.5x and 6x zoom settings as this is what I am used to for computing range.
5. With that, I think it is important to add a 3rd zoom setting where you see fit like 15x for the topside binoculars ....just to save your eyesight.....(ARB already has this eyesight saving feature in biono and uzo).

Charts from actual German U-boat procedure that give you a visual picture of what you are seeing to predict range in regard to 1.5x and 6x zoom settings. via Hitman

I still cannot get the TDC Salvo/Single switch markings to work...they only work on the Attack Map. I see the included files in an "SH3Commander" folder (which I assume ARB installed as I have not installed SH3Commander) but what do I do with them to make the tube markings appear?

Never mind...figured it out...finally.

Never mind the "never mind"...the "fix" provided is worse than the problem! The "fix" provided in the ARB mod uses SH3 Commander to add the tube numbers to the selector dial.
1. Why can't the issue be fixed without SH3 Commander? (I don't care as I use it...but others may not?).
2. The "fix" is wrong, anyway...the tube numbers are incorrect for the uboat you are in. I'm in a type IX...and this is what I see after the "fix":
http://users.frii.com/viciii3/selector1.jpgCompletely wrong for a Type IX...and the "T" or "S" switch changes nothing.
This is what it looks looks like without the fix...no tube numbers:
http://users.frii.com/viciii3/selector2.jpg

And this is what it should look like for a Type IX, in "Single" mode...

http://users.frii.com/viciii3/selector3.jpg
and now, Salvo mode...

4H_Ccrashh - this is amazing.

We are entirely similar coming back to SH3, both in (decadal) timing and motivation. You have saved me so much headache. Even though I found this relatively late in my journey back and starting to get this all working, I'm convinced that needing to find the real working Tycho patch elsewhere would have broken me. Not to mention the incredibly valuable (and perfectly working!!! Even on Win 10!) order of operations and clear instructions.

Thanks for this!

LOFL!!! :hmmm::doh::hmmm:

What a waste of time. I have been trying this (and others) for over a month...over and over. Bah!...Humbug. Throw a shovel full of dirt on SH3...say your respects...and find a modern version of a German WW2 sub simulation. If one doesn't exist...Oh well! SH3 USED to be fun...many moons ago. Now, after all the modding and widescreening and exe patching...it's so jacked up that the GWX mod will no longer get you through Kiel Kanal???
PUhlease...I used the GWX3 supermod for years...how did you people jack THAT excellent supermod up so bad????????

I really don't see anyone else having as much trouble as you seem to have modding things.

There are certain truths to having a working SH3 install.

0. Rule Zero: read the mod install instructions completely before installing.
1. Never install to a protected directory.
2. Always run a clean install to initiating setup the save game folder and then never touch the clean install.
3. Use a multicopy for a separate install for each different mod soup or megamod.
4. Apply the 4GB patch.
5. Read the directions for the mod to be installed and ensure separate JSGME installed in each different SH3 install.
6. When activating mods with JSGME, be patient. Some of them take a really long time to backup and then install modded files.
7. Many mods will tell you a mod install order and compatible (or not) mods.
8. GUI mods usually always go as one of the last mods installed, followed by MFM (if using), h.Sie, and then the MFM skins.
9. ARB and Tycho patch have some specific instructions that must be followed to the letter.
10. TKSS / German U-boat compilation has to be on installed in a specific order with a GWX patch involved.
11. Several mods have megamod specific versions or patches.
12. Pay attention to what mod is overwritten by another mod when using JSGME - it provides hints as to conflicts that may cause CTDs or make the game buggy.
13. Some mods simply won't be compatible with others.
14. Some mods will not work with your hardware. I've never gotten the Ahnenerbe or MaGUI widescreen mods to work, but I did with ARB and the Tycho patch.
15. See Rule Zero.

I just downloaded the Mod and I have some questions. I purchased SH3 from UBISOFT 12/11/2020. I found the ARB WIDEGUI MOD on SUBSIM and downloaded it. Following the instructions I started to install the MOD but became confused with the backup step.

Question 1. Being that my copy of SH3 is on UBISOFT Connect does that present any special handling?

Question 2. On my PC the path to the .exe files, I presume is:
Program Files (x86)/Ubisoft/Ubisoft Game Launcher/Games/Silent Hunter 3.
There is a sh3.exe and sh3_g.exe file in this folder. Which one do I backup? Is there any other information I need in light of my setup.

Thank You

Can't help with ubi connect. I have an older digital download from ubi that is standalone.

First - uninstall completely. You need SH3 to be installed in any other directory than the one you installed it in - the Program Files (x86) directory is protected. Something like c:\SilentHunter3 works.

Thanks for the help with the download, But after going through the install following the steps in the ARB Wide GUI post, there is no joy. I ran the bat file as per the post but it failed. I did download and installed JSGME as per the UTube video. I hope that is not the problem. Would somebody be so kind as to forward a detailed instruction sheet with detail on each step. I appreciate your help.

Hey guys. I'm new to submarine simulation games but I'm haing a lot of fun so far with SH3. I saw this mod and have installed it onto my copy of the game (I use LSH3 as my supermod) and everything works EXCEPT on the map screen specific tools are basically "mismatched" as in the protractor and ruler tool graphical elements are not actually on the mouse. It makes it really hard to mark things on the map and get manual targeting info because of this. Does anyone know of a fix or if I've installed something wrong? It would really help me. Thank you so much and keep up the great work on this mod it's amazing!

I also had this problem and found that it was a conflict between this mod and another mod. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the other mod. It may have been called the extended tools mod, but I'm not entirely sure.

I have the UbiSoft digital store version (v1.4 in-game bottom right corner) and also getting an error with step 6...

STEP SIX: Go into your Steam Silent Hunter 3 game folder and look for a file called PATCH_SH3. Double Click on it, A DOS window will open asking you to press any key. Do this a couple of times and the patch will make adjustments to your Steam SH3.EXE file.

The error reads...

"Sorry, no compatible version of sh3.exe found"
"Patching not possible! Exit."

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

OK I think I have most of this problem figured out. I do have a couple of final questions. My config is as follows:

1. New install of stock sh3 in unprotected dir
2. Backed up sh3.exe
3. JSGME installed and working in game dir.
4. SH3 Mod folders installed in JSGME (see below)

Adaptation for English & Deutsch
ARB Wide GUI 1920 x 1080
data
Manos environmental pro v5
optional
Thomsen's sound pack v3.2cg
TKSS18 German U-boats compilation
Tycho Sh3 Patch_v3
(5 Text Files)

My Questions:

1.What order should these mod folders get arranged in the activation column in JSGME?

2. Are the folders ok or do the files need to be removed from folders?

3. Does TychoSh3Patch.BAT get moved to JSGME Activation Colum or is it RUN manually in game folder and does it get RUN as administrator ?

4. Am I missing anything?

Thank You
I do appreciate your help

hello everyone, it has been a really long time since i played sh3 and i'm having a little problem here.

While using the ARB WideGui 1920x1080 or Ahnenerbe WideGui 1920 x 1080
the menu/text/GUI offsets outside the screen.

Like in this screenshot:

My native resolution is 1920x1200, even changing native to 1920x1080 gets the same effect.

I know im doing something wrong, or missing some crucial info to get this right.

I'm rather liking this mod as an upgrade from the old OLC GUI I used when I last played this game. One thing I'm wondering is has there been any progress on implementing the "night mode" or "red light" mode for the attack map? Or is there another mod I can install on top that does it?

Hello I am having very strange problem. When using ARB Widegui or default ahnerbe wide gui Anti aliasing doesint work( changing anti alaising in driver settings doesint do anything). But when using stock resolution I can freely change the anti aliasing and it works.
My graphics card is AMD r9 290x

I have created a threat which describes the problem a bit more in detail.

I may have found a workaround the problem. The anti aliasing works in windowed mode. I have found a program which can turn windowed mode into BORDERLESS windowed mode. The results are that you can play in 1920x1080 with perfect anti aliasing settings in "fullscreen".https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Glossary:Borderless_fullscreen_windowed

Soon I will create a guide in detail how to achieve it.

Hi I'm new to the subsim world, and this is the first mod I've tried for SHIII! So I'm having a problem where both the navigational and attack maps are splitting in half and having scaling issues. Is this a common problem that's been fixed or is something screwy on my end? Any help would be much appreciated!!

Yep. The ideal situation would be to set your monitor to a native 1080x1920 resolution. Both ATI and Nvidia can do this. Additionally, setting the scaling correctly is important.

I followed these instructions to a T and everything works great except my nav map is split in half and its impossible to tell my actual position. Can anyone tell me what i did wrong?

I think this is an issue with the Tycho Sh3 Patch. You can find a lot of them out there but most do not work. Unfortunately some of the files that I linked in my original post come with a version of the Tycho Sh3 Patch that does not work.

If you extracted everything you accidently put in a version that does not work. , It is no big deal to fix.

Try this,

Download this version of the patch here,

http://www.mediafire.com/file/rjr3crrwxetevpc/Tychos_Patch_%2528that_works%2529.rar/file

Extract the files and put them in your SH3 game folder.

Go into your Silent Hunter 3 game folder and look for a batch file called "Tychosh3patch"

There are two files with the same name. You want the batch file that has little gears in the icon.

Double click.. A DOS window opens , "Press any key to continue..."
The window goes away.

That should fix your problem.

Hope this helps.

I downloaded, copied, and ran that file as suggested but the cmd window pops up and reports "fail" before closing with a key press.

The result is the same. Game looks pretty good but the nav map is all out of sorts.

Thanks for your response, perhaps I've erred somewhere and should start over? Its just an annoyingly long install process to which I believed I'd given every attention to detail. Regardless, I appreciate your attempts at making this game accessible on modern operating systems.

Hello guys,

i installed this modpack and the HSI patch to get some good old SH3 feelings back (still own the original hardcopy of this game).

Now im facing an issue that makes the game kind of unplayable. The Watchtower Crew doesnt spot properly. Its a clear sky and daylight and the only time it spots and aircraft is when the spotting indicator turns red and the aircraft are already beginning their attack runs (this happens everytime) i can not let this game run in time compression (it happens during max, 512, and even at 64 TC and lower).

I honestly dont know how to fix it. It even goes as far as im crashing into hostile ships cause the Crew doesnt spot the ship right in front of me......

Would be glad if someone knows or could help me out.

I love the ARB Widegui mod, but I am in the process of setting up a new computer with the Nvidia RTX 3080 graphics card. I can run Silent Hunter III no problem on this new computer, but I cannot get ARB Widegui to work -- the display wants to stay in the original 1024x768 resolution with only the lower left hand portion of the ARB Widegui screens displaying. This is a free standing non-StarForce version of SH3 1.4 w/ GWX. The Nvidia 3080 runs DriectX 12, which is supposed to be backward compatible.

Interestingly, I have the exact same setup on a portable with an Nvidia GTX 1050 running DirectX 12 and SH3 with ARB Widegui runs perfectly.

If anyone comes up with a solution to SH3 with ARB Widegui 1920x1080 on the Nvidia 3080 RTX, please post your solution here. Thanks.

This sounds more like a monitor issue. I have an RTX 2070 card and I can run ARB Widescreen without any issues.

Well, that's good to know. I've played SH3+ARB using this monitor with my old W7 computer (now dead) using VGA, as well as plugged my W10 portable through this monitor using DP to HDMI with no problems in the past. For some reason this RTX 3080 using HDMI to HDMI just won't play ball so far.

Thanks for the reply -- I'll keep trying.

RTX 3080 and ARB WIDEGUI ISSUE SOLVED ...

Well, I found that there are no less than 8 variants of "d3d9.dll" on my new RTX 3080 computer ranging in size from 72.1 KB to 1.54 MB. I noted that the newest 1.54 MB version resided in my SH3 directory. My guess here is that if Windows needs but does not find a copy of "d3d9.dll" in your application directory referenced by an .INI file, it will get and use the latest and greatest version.

I noted on my portable computer with working SH3+ARB that the "d3d9.dll" was 190 KB in size -- a version which did not exist on my new machine. So I copied this version over to my new machine with the RTX 3080, replaced the version in my SH3 directory, and now SH3 with ARB Widegui works great on the new machine. WOO HOO!

Excellent work. I'm surprised to see that it works with LSH 2020, although some of my map tools are off center. For example, when you center the rule "circle" and click, your actual pencil marks are a few inches above. Is that something I can fix or because this mod was never really meant to work with LSH??

Just want to say great mod! Wolfpack345 on YouTube recommended this mod in a video but you guys probably already knew that.

I'm trying to get back to SH3. I just want to edit the ARB Gui for myself, so I can somehow get rid of the swastikas and other nasty stuff in it.
I'm trying to do the same thing that Wolfpack did back then in his SH3 campaigns.

Nasty stuff??? you mean beautiful artwork and symbols?

This is a historical game untouched by the silliness of today's politics. I'm glad this game has all the original swastikas and original symbols because if not then its not historical or realistic and just arcadey and censored like all the new sub games that get released. Games these days are ruined all because of social media and people over sensitive about everything weather it be statues, symbols or even building names/street names. Its like they want to erase history never to be told again and forgotten that it actually happened. there i'm done ranting for now

I'm having an issue with the nav map. It appears as if there are two maps side-by-side and they're inaccurate when zooming out. Everything else works just fine though.

I've already seen the detailed instructions on Page 12, but I already have everything I want installed and would rather not do another clean install.

Few months late, but for anyone else looking to keep swastikas to the history books where they belong, it's easy enough to do: the pictures are just .tga files, which any raster-based image program can open and modify. They're located in ...\data\Menu\Gui\. Just go through the pictures and find 'em and erase the middles with a color picked from nearby.

This is a perfectly safe operation: The only thing you could possibly do to hurt your install would be to change the canvas size and/or location on the canvas of the pictures, so don't do that. Back up the originals in case you mess up badly enough that you need to start over.

Done. Should take you an hour or so, max.

I just went ahead and did it myself.

If I missed any, lemme know and I'll re-upload:

https://mega.nz/file/EIVTTYSJ#tfD-fNaV97I48Ptd9c1poGd3tqFQ2Z_HlgkoLyBZJ08

Step 1. Copy <SH3 Base Folder>\data\misc and ...\menu folders so that you have backups.

Step 2. Unzip and toss the two folders into your ...\data\ directory. When asked to overwrite, say yes.

No more swastikas. If you want them back, copy the two folders you backed up back into your data directory and overwrite. p. simple, really.

For ARB you need both 3.0 and 3.1 in order to get the rectile correct.

From the readme :

=================================================
============= Version 0.3.1 HotFix ==============
================ 07.07.2018 ====================
=================================================

Bug fixes:

1. Fixed Scope Reticule on the Attack Periscope
2. Fixed Scope Reticule on the OBS Periscope
3. Fixed Scope Reticule on the UZO

Version for installation on top of version 0.3

Double check to make sure the ARB mod was installed properly by JSGME. If the path is incorrect in the mod, it will not install in the proper places leaving the old interface.

Item 6 in the settings:
6. Expand Nav and Attack maps render limit:
From 1024x1024 to 2048x2048. In disabled form, because it is highly GUI dependant. To activate it, uncomment the addresses lines.
This only expand the limits. For desired resolution you set-up the "maps.cfg" file.

In other words, you need to fix the "maps.cfg" file yourself for your screen resolution, "Tycho Sh3 Patch" does not do this - there are too many other screen resolutions. Full path to the file: sh3\data\menu\cfg\maps. cfg
Or you can find a working file "maps. cfg" for your monitor.

I'm getting a navigation map with a book on the right
And map is not full screen and rather small on the left

Is 3.1 the proper version to have a full map version ?

Ok someone told me to check inside my mod folders
The ARB mod is now active

But my navigation map is split in two and totally wrong.

No idea how to fix that.

In the cfg file I have this :

Resolution=1920,1057

Screen is 1920 x 1080
So the width seems OK

But I get a navigation map split in half on screen.

So you didn't install tychoSh3path correctly, and I already forgot how to install it exactly.

If you are using tychoSh3path version 4 which one tychoSh3path.html:
open or run it tychoSh3path.html in the browser,
you choose sh3.exe which you want to change - click on the top green button,
you choose what you need - "Expand Nav and Attack maps render limit",
next, click on the lower green button, search for the result in в "C:\Users\Gilbou\Downloads" Gilbou - your Windows account.
Here is the file C:\Users\Gilbou\Downloads\sh3.exe copy it to your game.

Something like this, but it's not accurate.
