Together with the mod I uploaded all the source files to open access. Anyone can make any changes for himself or use in other mods. The archive contains all the sources of images in the format .psd (Photoshop CS6). Also the original picture and other files that are used in the mod.

How to install:

!!! FIRST MAKE A BACKUP OF SH3.EXE FILE IN THE GAME FOLDER !!!
1. Install TychoSh3Patch_v3:
- Copy files in the folder TychoSh3Patch_v3 into the game folder.
- Run the TychoSh3Patch.bat
2. Install ARB WideGui 1920x1080:
- Copy files in the folder ARB WideGui 1920x1080 into the game folder.
3. Install language:
- Copy the folder with the language you need into the game folder.
TychoSh3Patch - expand Nav and Attack maps render limit from 1024x1024 to 2048x2048.

If there is demand, I can find that and add to my patch.
So, you can move the loading bar where you want on the screen.

I like the mod, i was also using a modified Ahnenerbe GUI mod but the full screen maps from your mod are a huge improvement .
Just a small observation : the night filter only affects the Navigation Map, i tried the old night filter and its the same thing, the Attack Map remains bright during the night, is there any way to change that ?

Do it if you have free time and a desire for it. But I do not consider this very important, necessary. I'll add it as an optional mod. I saw a patch that moves the load bar down. He was with the Ahnenerbe WideGui 1920 x 1080 for CCoM 11.1 (by Wurmonkel) (https://www.designmodproject.de/forum/ccom-captain-s-choice-of-mods/1327215-rel-ahnenerbe-widegui-1920-x-1080-fuer-ccom-11-1). Maybe this will help to find the right value in sh3.exe:

Hi! I'm not sure if it's possible to make a night filter on the attack screen. It can be added, but it will not turn on/off (It will be displayed day and night). I will try to make it in the next versions :Kaleun_Wink:

In the original Ahnenerbe mod, the Attack map has an "evening" look, its not as bright as the day navigation map, i think it will be nice if you can make that change , the Attack map being so bright at night doesnt look good.

Also, i remember trying a red night filter with the original mod and it affected the attack map also albeit not in a desirable way, the map became pink and the 1500m bearing overlay around the uboat was not visible anymore .
Now, with the full screen map the red night filter has no influence over the attack map,if anyone is interested , it looks like this on the nav map :

Awesome GUI, is it somehow possible to scale it down to 1680x1050 since this is the highest resolution my monitor supports? I would do it myself but are there things I have to watch out for?

Later I will change the night filter for the attack map. The night filter no longer affects the attack map because there is another file for it Night_filter_Attack Map.tga
Please send me a red filter. I'll add it as an optional mod:yeah:

This is possible, but requires completely rewriting the entire mod. It will take a very, very long time and effort :k_confused:

This is unfortunate. :(
I guess I could resacle the pictures myself, I guess this is the easiest part. But i know there are also alot of "config" files which place the elements. How could I get the correct position, which I have to enter there? Just set a value and try and if it does not work set another one and try again? So trial and error?

1) I have no idea why, but the weather now is acting extremely changeable: in a patrol lasting from 06 June 1942 - 01 Aug 1942, I experienced "fog sighted" 17 times!
2) On the nav map (F5) the options (lower left) are sometimes difficult to see during the day (see image). Could a dark background be extended for that, as it is for the message display?

1) This is impossible because in ARB WideGui there are no files that affect this :k_confused:
2) I fixed this in version 0.3 :Kaleun_Thumbs_Up:
3) Move files depending on the submarine from SH3 Commander to the game folder. But then there will be distortion on the TDC screen. In the future, I will try to rework it :Kaleun_Salute:

Okay, thanks, I got your message and downloaded the red filter. Later I'll try to make a day/night change on the Attack Map. If it does not work out then maybe I'll make a slightly darkened permanent filter. And also add a red filter to the Nav Map as an optional mod :Kaleun_Thumbs_Up:

Has this feature been eliminated in your GUI or simply disabled. If disabled could your tell me how to activate that feature once again?

Hi! What loading screens did you mean?
If you meant data\Menu\Loading then:
1. First make a picture of 1680x1050.
2. Then change the resolution to 1024x768 and paste it for example in Map.tga at the top (see how done I have).
In the game, the picture will be 1680x1050 resolution, but with poor quality. It is difficult to fix this because it is embedded in the game engine code.

Thanks very much for making a Widescreen mod!
I am impressed by the opening screen which shows a nice video and historical images. I see you have cured the presentation very well. However, please let me mention 2 issues, the 2nd one being more severe and could mean a no-go for many players because of it. So hopefully you're trying to correct.
a) German accents remain in cyrillic in the menu, in messages and screen names in-game.
This is not a big issue. To correct, take the fonts from Ahnenerbe's mod for WAC5.01 and incorportate them.
b) Like in Ahnenerbe's GUI, the mouseclicks are screwed-up meaning you can not reach all compartments of the sub.
E.g. the back area of the command room cannot be reached, neither by shortcut or the mouse; right-clicking on an officer will not always take his place of view. Right-clicking will not always take you back to conning tower like in the stock game. Take a look at the Conus GUI (with GWX3.0) to see how mouseclicks should work. Note that a fast movement within the sub is a big part of game immersion in SH3.
All this is more severe depending on how a simmer wants to play the game (shortcuts or mouse clicks, zooming optics).
Unfortunately I know it's difficult to fix because it clashes with the optics and cameras, so I have no good solution to propose, I can only say that it will be a no-go for many players chosing between zooming optics or moving at ease in the sub by using the mouse.
Your stations and the maps are awesome, the best I have seen in a WS GUI :up:

i have encountered those issues ( icons that dont do anything when clicked ) in some older versions of Ahnenerbe mod that i used in CCoM at some point but they were fixed eventually , the latest improved Ahnenerbe mod ( the one used in WAC) works perfect, all shortcuts work as intended , until this mod showed up i used it a lot with NYGM and it worked perfect .
That being said, i have none of those old issues with this mod, it works perfect also, it might be a conflict with other mods or some things from your supermod .

Thanks, but no, nothing to do with my supermod (GWX3.0), it's the same problem in Ahnenerbe's WS with WAC5.01.

Mouseclick problems all solved...
For the mouseclick problems (see point b in my response above), I have the perfect workaround (at least for me) by replacing the camera.dat taken from the Widescreen mod MaGui Final version (the one before v.3.4 was published).
After that, all mouseclicks work like in the stock game (correctly), now the
observation periscope will zoom at 1.5x-6x, the attack periscope at 1.5x-6x-12x (very good for identifying flags), the UZO will not zoom at x6.
These zoom factors could all be problematic when using Manual TDC with RAOTB disk, that's because AFAIK the zooming is not the right one for it, but it happens that I'm not a fan of high realism, so I will happily play Auto TDC in SH3 (the zoom factor doesn't matter), and Manual TDC in SH5 :)
Listen, will I ever play SH3 again instead of typing in these subsim forums...guess...

I am new to this mod. Just a few questions for clarification:
1. Installation: please correct me if I am wrong. I extract all files in "ARB WideGUI 1920x1080" into the game folder. Extract Tycho files. And run Tycho bat. DO NOT use JSGM mod enabler, correct? The 3.01 hotfix can be applied using JSGM?
2. Based on Tycho's instructions. If we want H.sie patch, we need do that patch first before Tycho's bat file, correct?
3. Is this mod compatible with GWX?
4. Can I still use FM_New Interior mod with this?

Can you fix the broken tube selection dial on the attack periscope and uzo?
On the Attack Map screen, toggling the salvo selector between T and S changes the tube dial from single tubes to salvo modes. This is good.
However, on the uzo and attack periscope, this doesn't happen, and the tube dial is not functional. This is bad.
This is particularly important since changing tubes with that dial is the only way I know of to keep the tubes from closing themselves.
Can I use this mod with FM interiors? is there a patch I tried it but the periscope lines are messed up

I remember reading someone had similar issue. But it was with another widescreen gui. What he did was he installed FM-interior first and then the new widescreen gui. But that way, you lose the FM's shortcut key commands. Not sure if you would still be able to move around the sub anymore.

it shows the main chronometer , when that one is working the draggable one works too , the idea is to watch the chronometer in other menus also without the need to switch to periscope, for example .

Unfortunately this is missing all the fixes that Izgud made for the Ahnenerbe gui!
It has doubled TDC dial labels in the attack map, which he had fixed (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2465871&postcount=336).
Crew talks when using pgup or pgdn to adjust periscope, which he had fixed (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2465871&postcount=336).
It lacks the added RPM chart at the hydrophone station.
I haven't checked the RAOBF mark (which was wrong in Ahnenerbe), but I suspect it will be wrong here too.
I also notice that there are two sets of reticles inside the UZO, and that the scale of the reticles in the Obs scope and Attack scope are wildly different.
Impossible to get it working correctly.
GWX3 no mods, installed to the letter, my nav map is screwed up in 2 parts by the middle screen, and my sub is showing even not on sea...

You done something wrong. Try removing the patch with Remove.bat and then again reaplying it. Fixed for me

So I found the attack disk ... but the disk only appear when a targed is locked. Is this intended? I think this is a huge limitation of the disk.

Did you uncomment the lines under the header Expand Nav and Attack maps render limit, from 1024x1024 to 2048x2048.
in the TychoSH3Patch map file as directed in Tycho's readme? If you did not you will get the split screen maps you are experiencing.
Open the map file in Tycho's WorkFolder with notepad and make the following changes. Then run the windows batch file to modify SH3.exe. When you load the mod with JSGME this time the map should look right.

First of all, absolutely fantastic mod! I was posting initially regarding what I thought could have been faulty periscope tick marks but the problem was self correcting when I discovered I was incorrectly classifying the target ship during tests.
I went back to SH3 + GWX + mods recently when I found myself spending more time trying to fix SH5 glitches even with the latest supermods then playing the game! :doh:

I managed to get this GUI working with very little fuss. The wide map looks great!

However... I noticed that this GUI uses ericlea's corrected RAOBF speed indicator on the periscopes. (it's a fix for the incorrectly positioned speed marker in Ahnenerbe WideGui Final).
The fix works, but sort of detracts a bit from the original appearance. So I recently made a version that looks more in style with the original instrument.

first of all, I'm considering the ARB WideGui 1920x1080 mod for my installs. All of which are GWX 3.0. I do have a few questions for you guys.
1. The readme says to place the ARB WideGui v0.3, 1920x1080 directly into the SH III game folder. Can I activate this mod via JSGME instead, just like the ARB WideGui Hotfix v0.3.1 which is activated via JSGME ?
2. What does the optional mod "Adaptation for English & Deutsch" do ? I couldn't find anything on this in the Readme's.
3. I'm pretty bad at ID'ing ships, will I have Weapons Officer assistance for this, or is this 100% manual ?
I will use the TychoSH3Patch v3, I'm good there and understand how to do that.

1) Sorry, I installed mine directly into SH3. Worked fine with GWX. Don't know why it wouldnt work though (except for maybe the resolution fix). Try it.
2) The modder is Russian, so if you play in English or German install those files

Last year I almost finished realistic optics. It is not 100% realistic, but now a realistic viewing angle and a more realistic grid than it was before.
At the moment, completely ready Attack Periscope, OBS Periscope. It remains to make UZO and binoculars. Also in the plans to correct some errors and add innovations that were published in this topic.
I can not say the release date because I haven't done a mod for a long time and I need to remember what was done before. It's been 10 months since I last developed the mod. In the process of creation, I will publish screenshots of the completed stages.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to turn on/off the night filter when changing day and night on the attack map. :k_confused: You can add a filter to the attack map but will not turn on/off when changing day and night. I am thinking of making a little red light on the attack map for 24 hours.
Maybe Tycho (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/member.php?u=250550) can find a way to turn on/off the night filter on the attack map because I think we need to edit the sh3.exe.

Thank you for this superb GUI, I just started approaching the world of SH3 modding a few weeks ago and I wish now I did it years ago :)
I noticed that now I'm getting a weird black layer/tansparent box over the ESB once I open it. Is this "working-as-intented"? Does anyone know what part of the mod could be causing it and how could I remove it?
I've pretty much isolated this issue to the ARBGUI as I'm not getting it with other 1920x1080 wide gui's like Ahnenerbe, I tried reinstalling the game from scratch, reinstalled and tested all the mods one by one, tested with minimal mods configurations etc.. but it comes back once I enable this gui. The rest of the GUI and tools are working flawlessly, using the maps in full screen is the best thing since sliced bread :up:

@RunningDepth: Im pretty sure its a GWX issue. GWX alters the images of the rec. manual to be darker. And if the mod you are using doesnt take this into account, it ends up looking in two tones.
Other than editing the appropiate background images of the GUI to make them darker as GWX (or editing all the rec manual files of GWX to make them lighter), i dont think there is much that can be done.

Thank you Benzin, I tried enabling High Contrast, and editing the backgroud .tga files, makes it better but the box was still there.
I fixed it by copying entirely the "Large JonZ Rec Manual and JIRM Inside Pages" settings from the menu_1024_768.ini of the Anhnenerbe Final (which was working fine for me) and replacing the one inside ARB's menu ini file, then enabled ARB again, it works perfectly :)

@ RunningDepth I think that background was intended, some of the ship pictures from different mods have a very bright white background and i guess that grey filter was supposed to reduce that brightness . I have it also, i'm using ARB with NYGM, it didnt bothered me too much , i tried your solution and it works, copying those lines from the original menu.ini removes it .:up:

Weird. I've been running this mod successfully with GWX since it came out. I haven't played for a couple of months but today I did and now I've got this double map issue too. In that time I never touched anything with my SH3 setup, mod lists etc.
Update: Problem solved. In my case I was just using the wrong SH3.exe.

Currently running just this mod, GWX, and SH3C but also used the SH3_XPSP2_Res_Fix_for_1.4b mod. I removed the Res Fix mod and applied this mod but now, SH3 won't load into the world. Installing this mod, JSGME told me this mod conflicts with 3 of the GWX mods.
Is there a specific install order for this with GWX mods?

Thank you for this superb GUI, I just started approaching the world of SH3 modding a few weeks ago and I wish now I did it years ago :)
I noticed that now I'm getting a weird black layer/tansparent box over the ESB once I open it. Is this "working-as-intented"? Does anyone know what part of the mod could be causing it and how could I remove it?
I've pretty much isolated this issue to the ARBGUI as I'm not getting it with other 1920x1080 wide gui's like Ahnenerbe, I tried reinstalling the game from scratch, reinstalled and tested all the mods one by one, tested with minimal mods configurations etc.. but it comes back once I enable this gui. The rest of the GUI and tools are working flawlessly, using the maps in full screen is the best thing since sliced bread :up:

Did you uncomment the lines under the header Expand Nav and Attack maps render limit, from 1024x1024 to 2048x2048.
in the TychoSH3Patch map file as directed in Tycho's readme? If you did not you will get the split screen maps you are experiencing.
Open the map file in Tycho's WorkFolder with notepad and make the following changes. Then run the windows batch file to modify SH3.exe. When you load the mod with JSGME this time the map should look right.

That doesn't work for me, I'm not even able to patch the sh3.exe. I use steam version, hence I have to pre-patch it with H.sie, but I'm not able to do that either. I'm literally stuck.

idk if anybody still uses sh3speech but, does anybody have an SH3speech profile that works with this hud mod?
Just got back to SHIII and got ARB WideGui .3.1 and Tycho's patch installed. What a difference. Should have done this awhile ago. No issues and looking good. Great Job !

A little help with the installation.
So, I enable ARB WideGui .30 (do I need to install the language pack?) and then 0.31 patch, but in ARB WideGui there is a folder named SH3 commander, this one have to be enable via jgme in SH3 commander, correct?
This is what I have :

Open the SH3 Commander folder. What do you see there? I think U-boats and salvo Selector inside. Just install the mod through JSGME as a whole.
I did. The interface of the perioscopes is quite similar to MaGui F. However 3 things: the numbers of torpedo tubes/salvos do not appear in the dial, so it may have to do with commander folder (i only run the game directly, just to test and see, do I have to run it again via commander adn see if there is difference).
I had the return of the orange arrow marker in the external camera???:hmmm: Didn't remember that, so many years without it.
And I lost a few of the charts from

Optional - Charts Addon 1.4 GWX_MFM ships
But this should be do to the ARB 0.3.0 WideGui 1920x1080 being enable after h.sie and stiebler patchs.

so when i get the the "preparing supplement mod" part of the installation it says "Extract the Supplement to V16 Mod archive" i have no idea what your talking about, and then can you help me figure out what they say after that please, its "Put the patched sh3.exe into that mod (into the same folder where the 4 DLLs are

I've been out of the loop for years and came back two weeks ago when I saw a video on Youtube of a guy attacking a convoy in SH3. It blew me away the improved graphics and widescreen.
I dug out my old SH3 game and installed it only to have my Windows 7 tell me it cannot run the game. We've all seen the error, about how the game only works in XP etc etc...
I poured through forums and despite my many tries I could not get the game to load. Fortunately for me there was STEAM and $3.95 later I was ready.
Of course when I started the game I got the "Cannot Initialize 3D".
I remembered long ago that I had to drop my desktop resolution and the game would start. This I did, The max resolution I can get and still have the game start is 1600 x 900.
So, 1st hurdle down, the game was running.
With the widescreen monitor it looked squashed. I could adjust the monitor and set my display to 4:3 but I HAD to have that pretty widescreen.
I am a reasonably intelligent, bi-pedal, carbon based unit with opposing thumbs so I thought "How hard can this be?"
I downloaded ARB WideGui 1920x1080 with associated files (I thought) and I did get the game to look great but my navigational map was messed up. I had two maps side by side and neither was accurate.
I held my nose and dove back in the forums and tried everything I could find.
Talk about confusing.
I was searching through threads that were many years old.
Threads with links to other posts,, what this guy tried and that guy tried and where this file was needed but the other guy said he got it to work by doing this or that with a link to yet another forum thread with links to even more files. Many of the links to get files to "fix" the problem were no longer valid.
If I had a dollar for every Error #404 "file not found" I'd have enough money to hire some dude from the Best Buy's "Geek Squad" to fix problem.
I was ready to go all "Elvis Presley" on my computer. (Elvis Presley, an American Rock and Roll singer from back in the 1950's who shot his TV, am I dating myself? )
It took a few days and lots of beer (for nerves)but FINALLY, it was working.
Problem is, when I was done I had been through so many forums, been on many tangents that I could not for the life of me remember how I got where I was with a working game. If my computer were to crash and I wanted to set up SH3 I'd be up the proverbial effluent estuary without a means of locomotion. I needed to duplicate my success and write it all down.
There was no easy VERY BASIC step by step guide. so I thought I'd write one.
So here we go.
FOUR THINGS FIRST....
ONE: My rig is an Intel i7 4790K, 4.00 GHz processor with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit running 16 Gig of RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti video with a Sound Blaster Z card.
TWO: This will ONLY work with a clean fresh version of the STEAM installed Silent Hunter 3.
C: PLEASE take your time and follow each step VERY carefully. Don't try to jump ahead.
And SIX: We have some downloading to do. I have made sure that the files you are going to download are the ones that will WORK. Please do not think that you already have that file in your library and skip over. I can't tell you the nightmare that was finding a TychoSh3patch, and when I did that link all of a sudden died so I uploaded the one I have THAT WORKS on Mediafire.
EDIT: If at some point some of these links don't work send me a PM and I will upload the files I downloaded from these links to MediaFire. All of the links works as of the date of this post.
You need five things to make this work.
Six, if you want to use Grey Wolves. (optional NOT REQUIRED)
We are going to need a way to keep all of this organized so first things first.
Create a folder on your desktop called TOOLS to put the following files in so they are easy to find later.

The file you want is called "V16B1-Patch-installed.7z"
I know ,, I know.... Every thread I found referred to the patch as the HSIE patch. That caused a lot of confusion. Want to spend an hour or two with your eyeballs melting in your sockets? Do a Google search for the HSIE patch. You will never see "V16B1" anywhere....
FUN!!!!
It is the file you want. Trust me, I mean,, hey,,, would I lie to you?
2. The 4GB patch that lets SH3 access more of your computers' memory.

Ok we now have everything we need, ,, except more beer.
So here we go ,, Buckle up and lets "kick this pig"
STEP ONE : Pry open your wallet and spend the $3.95 to purchase and then install Silent Hunter 3 from Steam.
STEP TWO: Go into your Steam Silent Hunter 3 game folder, and copy SH3.exe (application file) to a safe place on your desktop. This is a precaution to save a lot of time if you make a mistake.
You can find it here..
(DRIVE WHATEVER you installed steam into):\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Silent Hunter 3\
STEP THREE: Adjust your windows desktop resolution to 1600x900 (or lower) so the game will start.
Test your game by starting it to make sure it runs. If it does (and it will) shut down the game and you can return your desktop resolution back to its normal setting.
STEP FOUR: Create a folder on your desktop called WORKING.
STEP FIVE: READ ALL OF STEP 5 BEFORE CLICKING ANYTHING!!!
In your TOOLS folder that you created extract the files from "V16B1-Patch-installed" into your "WORKING" folder. This will create a folder in "WORKING" called "V16B1-Patch-installed".
Go into that folder and CUT and PASTE all of the files (including the "tool" folder) into the Silent Hunter 3 game folder in STEAM..... BUT WAIT!!!!
THERE IS A TRAP!!!!!
When you paste / copy them to the SH3 game folder a window will pop up asking you if you want to "Copy and Replace" the SH3.exe.
DO NOT REPLACE THE FILE. Got that? DO NOT REPLACE THE SH3.exe file.
If you do the patch will not work.
If for some reason you did not read all of STEP 5 before clicking and did replace the SH3.exe don't worry.. Just copy and paste the SH3.exe file that you saved in STEP TWO above and do STEP FIVE again.
If you did not do STEP TWO then uninstall Silent Hunter 3 from your STEAM be sure the folder is deleted and install from STEAM again and start over.
STEP SIX: Go into your Steam Silent Hunter 3 game folder and look for a file called PATCH_SH3.
Double Click on it, A DOS window will open asking you to press any key. Do this a couple of times and the patch will make adjustments to your Steam SH3.EXE file.
STEP SEVEN: You can delete (if any) the files in the WORKING folder.
STEP EIGHT: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file 4gb_patch " into your "WORKING" folder.
Go into your "WORKING" folder CUT and PASTE the file " 4gb_patch " to your STEAM Silent Hunter 3 Folder.
STEP NINE: Go into your Silent Hunter 3 folder and double-click on the 4gb_patch. It will open a window listing all of the files in your game directory. Look for the SH3 application its a RED icon called SH3 and click on it one time to highlight it, then click "open" in the bottom right of the window. A new window will pop up saying "Executable successfully patched". Click "OK".
STEP TEN: Delete any files in the "WORKING" Folder. (There should not be any if you CUT and PASTED.)
STEP ELEVEN: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file " Tychos Patch (that works)" to your "WORKING" folder. CUT and PASTE the five files in the "WORKING" to your Silent Hunter 3 game.
STEP TWELVE: Go into your Silent Hunter 3 game folder and look for a batch file called "Tychosh3patch"
There are two files with the same name. You want the batch file that has little gears in the icon.
Double click.. A DOS window opens , "Press any key to continue..."
The window goes away.
STEP THIRTEEN: Delete all the files in your "WORKING FOLDER" (should be empty if you CUT and PASTED)
STEP FOURTEEN: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file from " jsgme_2.6.0" into your "WORKING" folder.
STEP FIFTEEN: In your "WORKING" folder run the program "jsgme_setup". The install program will ask you to select a destination folder. Click browse and direct the program to your Silent Hunter 3 folder in STEAM.
(DRIVE WHATEVER you installed steam into):\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Silent Hunter 3\
Make sure to check the box to create a Desktop Icon
STEP SIXTEEN: Delete the files in your "WORKING" folder.
STEP SEVENTEEN: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file ARB WideGui 1920x1080 v0.3 into your "WORKING" folder.
STEP EIGHTEEN: In your "WORKING" folder cut and paste the folder "ARB WideGui 1920x1080" and put it in the 'MODS" folder found inside the "Silent Hunter 3" game folder.
STEP NINETEEN: Delete all of the files in your "WORKING" folder you don't need them unless you want to apply some of the other options. But they are not needed to get the game to run in widescreen.
I don't know if you noticed but there was a folder called " TychoSh3Patch_v3", you don't need it. The one you already installed in STEP TWELVE works. The one you just deleted does not. Go figure....
STEP TWENTY: In your "WORKING" folder create a folder called "ARB WideGui Fix"
STEP TWENTY-ONE: Go into your "TOOLS" folder and extract the file " ARB WideGui 1920x1080 v0.3.1" into the folder you just created in your "WORKING" folder called " ARB WideGui Fix".
After you put the files in " ARB WideGui Fix " go in that folder and delete the "changes" and "how to install" text files.
STEP TWENTY-TWO: In your "WORKING" folder CUT and PASTE the folder "ARB WideGui Fix" to the "MODS" folder in Silent Hunter 3.
STEP TWENTY-THREE: On your Desktop you should have an Icon to starts the JSGME Mod loader program.
It looks like a big yellow "G".
Run that program. A window will pop up. showing the name of you MODS folder. in this case it says MODS Click "ok"
In the left side of the window you will see the available MODS. The two ARB WideGui mods you just put in should be listed.
Click on "ARB WideGUI 1920x1080" to highlight it then click on the little ">" to load the mod. It should move to the right.
Now Click on the mod "ARB WideGui Fix" Click the ">" and load that mod. A warning message will pop up.
It's ok, Click "Yes". This will grey out the first mod you loaded. That is normal.
CLOSE the JSGME Program.
STEP TWENTY-FOUR: Delete (if any) files in your "WORKING" folder.
STEP TWENTY-FIVE: Change your Desktop Resolution to 1600x900 or lower and start the game.
The game will come up in widescreen and your navigation map will look correct.
CONGRATS!
At this point if you want you can install Grey Wolves GOLD 3.0.
Before you do make sure you first start JSGME and unload all mods. After Grey Wolves is finished installing start up JSGME and load the ARB WideGui file and fix and your all set.

I've got everything else working but for some reason my attack periscope texts are in German. I have installed the "Adaption for English & Deutsch" folder via JSGME but what ever I do I can't get the texts to be in English. Have I done something wrong or should I change something to get the texts in English? I have installed the adaption pack last.
EDIT: Got it working. Had to mess up with the JSGME order and finally go it right.

Sometimes when I load a mod through JSGME it does not take. I dunno why.
Back up your Data folder then instead of trying to load via JSGME , go into "Adaptation for English & Deutschthe" and click through until you get to the DATA folder and cut and paste that into the DATA folder in the game and see if that works.
Be sure to back up the Data folder first. Since you are not loading the mod through JSGME it will not be possible to reverse the experiment.
I have no saved games . I'm just getting back into this so I don't mind experimenting. I would try it myself for you but my STEAM had a hissy-fit and no longer shows one of my games as installed, It is going to take a 31 gig download with my crappy 3.5meg DSL (yaY!! living in farm country)
One advantage to the steam version of SH3, After you get the game perfect you can copy the SH3 game folder to a safe spot. If your current game gets messed up you can go into STEAM delete all of the files in the SH3 STEAM folder then copy them back from your safe spot.
Only diff is that before when you started SH3 it started STEAM, Now when you click the Icon to start the game it will start steam and tell you it needs to reinstall. Just cancel that message and start the game again after Steam is already running and the game will start. Or I just start Steam first. Then start the game. The only thing Steam would do for you is auto update games. I'm pretty sure there are no "official" updates coming from Ubisoft so steam is irrelevant. Its just a way to get the game to run.
I'm curious to see how it works out.

Oof, when one problems gets solved another arises...
Does anyone know what is the reason that the Attack Course Pointer on the Attack Disk is coupled with the periscope direction or the AOB pointer on the TDC? This makes life really hard when trying to solve the right direction for a 90 degree attack angle, like shown in this video:

You can not move the ACP if the TDC is on. To be able to move it you have to put it off, but then when you move the ACP the AOB changes on the TDC. I would like to use the Attack Disk only as a tool which does not interfere with the TDC or any other thing, just a plain simple tool to check courses etc. without needing to worry about it affecting anything.
Can this be changed somewhere?

Hi, I was having a problem with an LSH3 install. However, the issue seems to NOT be from LSH3 but either of the widescreen mods, whenver they are install no matter what my settings are I always get "Cannot Initialize 3D engine". Anyone have any tips? Thanks.

I've been out of the loop for years and came back two weeks ago when I saw a video on Youtube of a guy attacking a convoy in SH3. It blew me away the improved graphics and widescreen.
I dug out my old SH3 game and installed it only to have my Windows 7 tell me it cannot run the game. We've all seen the error, about how the game only works in XP etc etc...
I poured through forums and despite my many tries I could not get the game to load. Fortunately for me there was STEAM and $3.95 later I was ready.
Of course when I started the game I got the "Cannot Initialize 3D".
I remembered long ago that I had to drop my desktop resolution and the game would start. This I did, The max resolution I can get and still have the game start is 1600 x 900.
So, 1st hurdle down, the game was running.
With the widescreen monitor it looked squashed. I could adjust the monitor and set my display to 4:3 but I HAD to have that pretty widescreen.
I am a reasonably intelligent, bi-pedal, carbon based unit with opposing thumbs so I thought "How hard can this be?"
I downloaded ARB WideGui 1920x1080 with associated files (I thought) and I did get the game to look great but my navigational map was messed up. I had two maps side by side and neither was accurate.
I held my nose and dove back in the forums and tried everything I could find.
Talk about confusing.
I was searching through threads that were many years old.
Threads with links to other posts,, what this guy tried and that guy tried and where this file was needed but the other guy said he got it to work by doing this or that with a link to yet another forum thread with links to even more files. Many of the links to get files to "fix" the problem were no longer valid.
If I had a dollar for every Error #404 "file not found" I'd have enough money to hire some dude from the Best Buy's "Geek Squad" to fix problem.
I was ready to go all "Elvis Presley" on my computer. (Elvis Presley, an American Rock and Roll singer from back in the 1950's who shot his TV, am I dating myself? )
It took a few days and lots of beer (for nerves)but FINALLY, it was working.
Problem is, when I was done I had been through so many forums, been on many tangents that I could not for the life of me remember how I got where I was with a working game. If my computer were to crash and I wanted to set up SH3 I'd be up the proverbial effluent estuary without a means of locomotion. I needed to duplicate my success and write it all down.
There was no easy VERY BASIC step by step guide. so I thought I'd write one.
So here we go.
FOUR THINGS FIRST....
ONE: My rig is an Intel i7 4790K, 4.00 GHz processor with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit running 16 Gig of RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti video with a Sound Blaster Z card.
TWO: This will ONLY work with a clean fresh version of the STEAM installed Silent Hunter 3.
C: PLEASE take your time and follow each step VERY carefully. Don't try to jump ahead.
And SIX: We have some downloading to do. I have made sure that the files you are going to download are the ones that will WORK. Please do not think that you already have that file in your library and skip over. I can't tell you the nightmare that was finding a TychoSh3patch, and when I did that link all of a sudden died so I uploaded the one I have THAT WORKS on Mediafire.
EDIT: If at some point some of these links don't work send me a PM and I will upload the files I downloaded from these links to MediaFire. All of the links works as of the date of this post.
You need five things to make this work.
Six, if you want to use Grey Wolves. (optional NOT REQUIRED)
We are going to need a way to keep all of this organized so first things first.
Create a folder on your desktop called TOOLS to put the following files in so they are easy to find later.

The file you want is called "V16B1-Patch-installed.7z"
I know ,, I know.... Every thread I found referred to the patch as the HSIE patch. That caused a lot of confusion. Want to spend an hour or two with your eyeballs melting in your sockets? Do a Google search for the HSIE patch. You will never see "V16B1" anywhere....

It is the file you want. Trust me, I mean,, hey,,, would I lie to you?
2. The 4GB patch that lets SH3 access more of your computers' memory.

So here we go ,, Buckle up and lets "kick this pig"
STEP ONE : Pry open your wallet and spend the $3.95 to purchase and then install Silent Hunter 3 from Steam.
STEP TWO: Go into your Steam Silent Hunter 3 game folder, and copy SH3.exe (application file) to a safe place on your desktop. This is a precaution to save a lot of time if you make a mistake.
You can find it here..
(DRIVE WHATEVER you installed steam into):\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Silent Hunter 3\
STEP THREE: Adjust your windows desktop resolution to 1600x900 (or lower) so the game will start.
Test your game by starting it to make sure it runs. If it does (and it will) shut down the game and you can return your desktop resolution back to its normal setting.
STEP FOUR: Create a folder on your desktop called WORKING.
STEP FIVE: READ ALL OF STEP 5 BEFORE CLICKING ANYTHING!!!
In your TOOLS folder that you created extract the files from "V16B1-Patch-installed" into your "WORKING" folder. This will create a folder in "WORKING" called "V16B1-Patch-installed".
Go into that folder and CUT and PASTE all of the files (including the "tool" folder) into the Silent Hunter 3 game folder in STEAM..... BUT WAIT!!!!
THERE IS A TRAP!!!!!
When you paste / copy them to the SH3 game folder a window will pop up asking you if you want to "Copy and Replace" the SH3.exe.
DO NOT REPLACE THE FILE. Got that? DO NOT REPLACE THE SH3.exe file.
If you do the patch will not work.
If for some reason you did not read all of STEP 5 before clicking and did replace the SH3.exe don't worry.. Just copy and paste the SH3.exe file that you saved in STEP TWO above and do STEP FIVE again.
If you did not do STEP TWO then uninstall Silent Hunter 3 from your STEAM be sure the folder is deleted and install from STEAM again and start over.
STEP SIX: Go into your Steam Silent Hunter 3 game folder and look for a file called PATCH_SH3.
Double Click on it, A DOS window will open asking you to press any key. Do this a couple of times and the patch will make adjustments to your Steam SH3.EXE file.
STEP SEVEN: You can delete (if any) the files in the WORKING folder.
STEP EIGHT: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file 4gb_patch " into your "WORKING" folder.
Go into your "WORKING" folder CUT and PASTE the file " 4gb_patch " to your STEAM Silent Hunter 3 Folder.
STEP NINE: Go into your Silent Hunter 3 folder and double-click on the 4gb_patch. It will open a window listing all of the files in your game directory. Look for the SH3 application its a RED icon called SH3 and click on it one time to highlight it, then click "open" in the bottom right of the window. A new window will pop up saying "Executable successfully patched". Click "OK".
STEP TEN: Delete any files in the "WORKING" Folder. (There should not be any if you CUT and PASTED.)
STEP ELEVEN: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file " Tychos Patch (that works)" to your "WORKING" folder. CUT and PASTE the five files in the "WORKING" to your Silent Hunter 3 game.
STEP TWELVE: Go into your Silent Hunter 3 game folder and look for a batch file called "Tychosh3patch"
There are two files with the same name. You want the batch file that has little gears in the icon.
Double click.. A DOS window opens , "Press any key to continue..."
The window goes away.
STEP THIRTEEN: Delete all the files in your "WORKING FOLDER" (should be empty if you CUT and PASTED)
STEP FOURTEEN: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file from " jsgme_2.6.0" into your "WORKING" folder.
STEP FIFTEEN: In your "WORKING" folder run the program "jsgme_setup". The install program will ask you to select a destination folder. Click browse and direct the program to your Silent Hunter 3 folder in STEAM.
(DRIVE WHATEVER you installed steam into):\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Silent Hunter 3\
Make sure to check the box to create a Desktop Icon
STEP SIXTEEN: Delete the files in your "WORKING" folder.
STEP SEVENTEEN: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file ARB WideGui 1920x1080 v0.3 into your "WORKING" folder.
STEP EIGHTEEN: In your "WORKING" folder cut and paste the folder "ARB WideGui 1920x1080" and put it in the 'MODS" folder found inside the "Silent Hunter 3" game folder.
STEP NINETEEN: Delete all of the files in your "WORKING" folder you don't need them unless you want to apply some of the other options. But they are not needed to get the game to run in widescreen.
I don't know if you noticed but there was a folder called " TychoSh3Patch_v3", you don't need it. The one you already installed in STEP TWELVE works. The one you just deleted does not. Go figure....
STEP TWENTY: In your "WORKING" folder create a folder called "ARB WideGui Fix"
STEP TWENTY-ONE: Go into your "TOOLS" folder and extract the file " ARB WideGui 1920x1080 v0.3.1" into the folder you just created in your "WORKING" folder called " ARB WideGui Fix".
After you put the files in " ARB WideGui Fix " go in that folder and delete the "changes" and "how to install" text files.
STEP TWENTY-TWO: In your "WORKING" folder CUT and PASTE the folder "ARB WideGui Fix" to the "MODS" folder in Silent Hunter 3.
STEP TWENTY-THREE: On your Desktop you should have an Icon to starts the JSGME Mod loader program.
It looks like a big yellow "G".
Run that program. A window will pop up. showing the name of you MODS folder. in this case it says MODS Click "ok"
In the left side of the window you will see the available MODS. The two ARB WideGui mods you just put in should be listed.
Click on "ARB WideGUI 1920x1080" to highlight it then click on the little ">" to load the mod. It should move to the right.
Now Click on the mod "ARB WideGui Fix" Click the ">" and load that mod. A warning message will pop up.
It's ok, Click "Yes". This will grey out the first mod you loaded. That is normal.
CLOSE the JSGME Program.
STEP TWENTY-FOUR: Delete (if any) files in your "WORKING" folder.
STEP TWENTY-FIVE: Change your Desktop Resolution to 1600x900 or lower and start the game.
The game will come up in widescreen and your navigation map will look correct.
CONGRATS!
At this point if you want you can install Grey Wolves GOLD 3.0.
Before you do make sure you first start JSGME and unload all mods. After Grey Wolves is finished installing start up JSGME and load the ARB WideGui file and fix and your all set.
I will now sit back and bask in your adoration of my brilliance.

Thanks. I made a copy of the whole game file and tried it.
Installed it as per instructions, but somehow I can`t really see a difference.
Guess the Tycho Patcher didn`t work.

The 3 newly added on/off TDC autoupdate button are not interactive with keyboard input.
For example normally red means manual green means auto,then if I press hotkey"Ctrl+T" once the logic is revesed red become auto green become manual.press another it goes back to normal.I tried to mess around with the menu_1024_768.ini dails,cfg and commands_en.cfg but with no luck.anyone have any idea to overcome this issue?

STEP SEVENTEEN: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file ARB WideGui 1920x1080 v0.3 into your "WORKING" folder.

STEP NINETEEN: Delete all of the files in your "WORKING" folder you don't need them unless you want to apply some of the other options. But they are not needed to get the game to run in widescreen.
I don't know if you noticed but there was a folder called " TychoSh3Patch_v3", you don't need it. The one you already installed in STEP TWELVE works. The one you just deleted does not. Go figure....
STEP TWENTY: In your "WORKING" folder create a folder called "ARB WideGui Fix"
STEP TWENTY-ONE: Go into your "TOOLS" folder and extract the file " ARB WideGui 1920x1080 v0.3.1" into the folder you just created in your "WORKING" folder called " ARB WideGui Fix".
After you put the files in " ARB WideGui Fix " go in that folder and delete the "changes" and "how to install" text files.
STEP TWENTY-TWO: In your "WORKING" folder CUT and PASTE the folder "ARB WideGui Fix" to the "MODS" folder in Silent Hunter 3.
STEP TWENTY-THREE: On your Desktop you should have an Icon to starts the JSGME Mod loader program.
It looks like a big yellow "G".
Run that program. A window will pop up. showing the name of you MODS folder. in this case it says MODS Click "ok"
In the left side of the window you will see the available MODS. The two ARB WideGui mods you just put in should be listed.
Click on "ARB WideGUI 1920x1080" to highlight it then click on the little ">" to load the mod. It should move to the right.
Now Click on the mod "ARB WideGui Fix" Click the ">" and load that mod. A warning message will pop up.
It's ok, Click "Yes". This will grey out the first mod you loaded. That is normal.
CLOSE the JSGME Program.
STEP TWENTY-FOUR: Delete (if any) files in your "WORKING" folder.
STEP TWENTY-FIVE: Change your Desktop Resolution to 1600x900 or lower and start the game.
The game will come up in widescreen and your navigation map will look correct.
CONGRATS!
At this point if you want you can install Grey Wolves GOLD 3.0.
Before you do make sure you first start JSGME and unload all mods. After Grey Wolves is finished installing start up JSGME and load the ARB WideGui file and fix and your all set.
I will now sit back and bask in your adoration of my brilliance.

I must say your instructions were amazing, because you left nothing for us to guess. Very thorough instructions. However, I am still getting 3D engine crash, and I'm thinking it must be my video card. I have a HP Pavilion 17 laptop from year 2013 with AMD Radeon HD 8600M Series and AMD Radeon HD 8650G + 8600M Dual Graphics, if that says anything to anyone.
I have also tried Ahnenerbe WideGui mod, but that doesn't work either. Vanilla does work with Full Screen, but 1920x1080 mods don't, for some reason...

I've been out of the loop for years and came back two weeks ago when I saw a video on Youtube of a guy attacking a convoy in SH3. It blew me away the improved graphics and widescreen.
I dug out my old SH3 game and installed it only to have my Windows 7 tell me it cannot run the game. We've all seen the error, about how the game only works in XP etc etc...
I poured through forums and despite my many tries I could not get the game to load. Fortunately for me there was STEAM and $3.95 later I was ready.
Of course when I started the game I got the "Cannot Initialize 3D".
I remembered long ago that I had to drop my desktop resolution and the game would start. This I did, The max resolution I can get and still have the game start is 1600 x 900.
So, 1st hurdle down, the game was running.
With the widescreen monitor it looked squashed. I could adjust the monitor and set my display to 4:3 but I HAD to have that pretty widescreen.
I am a reasonably intelligent, bi-pedal, carbon based unit with opposing thumbs so I thought "How hard can this be?"
I downloaded ARB WideGui 1920x1080 with associated files (I thought) and I did get the game to look great but my navigational map was messed up. I had two maps side by side and neither was accurate.
I held my nose and dove back in the forums and tried everything I could find.
Talk about confusing.
I was searching through threads that were many years old.
Threads with links to other posts,, what this guy tried and that guy tried and where this file was needed but the other guy said he got it to work by doing this or that with a link to yet another forum thread with links to even more files. Many of the links to get files to "fix" the problem were no longer valid.
If I had a dollar for every Error #404 "file not found" I'd have enough money to hire some dude from the Best Buy's "Geek Squad" to fix problem.
I was ready to go all "Elvis Presley" on my computer. (Elvis Presley, an American Rock and Roll singer from back in the 1950's who shot his TV, am I dating myself? )
It took a few days and lots of beer (for nerves)but FINALLY, it was working.
Problem is, when I was done I had been through so many forums, been on many tangents that I could not for the life of me remember how I got where I was with a working game. If my computer were to crash and I wanted to set up SH3 I'd be up the proverbial effluent estuary without a means of locomotion. I needed to duplicate my success and write it all down.
There was no easy VERY BASIC step by step guide. so I thought I'd write one.
So here we go.
FOUR THINGS FIRST....
ONE: My rig is an Intel i7 4790K, 4.00 GHz processor with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit running 16 Gig of RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti video with a Sound Blaster Z card.
TWO: This will ONLY work with a clean fresh version of the STEAM installed Silent Hunter 3.
C: PLEASE take your time and follow each step VERY carefully. Don't try to jump ahead.
And SIX: We have some downloading to do. I have made sure that the files you are going to download are the ones that will WORK. Please do not think that you already have that file in your library and skip over. I can't tell you the nightmare that was finding a TychoSh3patch, and when I did that link all of a sudden died so I uploaded the one I have THAT WORKS on Mediafire.
EDIT: If at some point some of these links don't work send me a PM and I will upload the files I downloaded from these links to MediaFire. All of the links works as of the date of this post.
You need five things to make this work.
Six, if you want to use Grey Wolves. (optional NOT REQUIRED)
We are going to need a way to keep all of this organized so first things first.
Create a folder on your desktop called TOOLS to put the following files in so they are easy to find later.

I know ,, I know.... Every thread I found referred to the patch as the HSIE patch. That caused a lot of confusion. Want to spend an hour or two with your eyeballs melting in your sockets? Do a Google search for the HSIE patch. You will never see "V16B1" anywhere....

2. The 4GB patch that lets SH3 access more of your computers' memory.

So here we go ,, Buckle up and lets "kick this pig"
STEP ONE : Pry open your wallet and spend the $3.95 to purchase and then install Silent Hunter 3 from Steam.
STEP TWO: Go into your Steam Silent Hunter 3 game folder, and copy SH3.exe (application file) to a safe place on your desktop. This is a precaution to save a lot of time if you make a mistake.
You can find it here..
(DRIVE WHATEVER you installed steam into):\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Silent Hunter 3\
STEP THREE: Adjust your windows desktop resolution to 1600x900 (or lower) so the game will start.
Test your game by starting it to make sure it runs. If it does (and it will) shut down the game and you can return your desktop resolution back to its normal setting.
STEP FOUR: Create a folder on your desktop called WORKING.
STEP FIVE: READ ALL OF STEP 5 BEFORE CLICKING ANYTHING!!!
In your TOOLS folder that you created extract the files from "V16B1-Patch-installed" into your "WORKING" folder. This will create a folder in "WORKING" called "V16B1-Patch-installed".
Go into that folder and CUT and PASTE all of the files (including the "tool" folder) into the Silent Hunter 3 game folder in STEAM..... BUT WAIT!!!!
THERE IS A TRAP!!!!!
When you paste / copy them to the SH3 game folder a window will pop up asking you if you want to "Copy and Replace" the SH3.exe.
DO NOT REPLACE THE FILE. Got that? DO NOT REPLACE THE SH3.exe file.
If you do the patch will not work.
If for some reason you did not read all of STEP 5 before clicking and did replace the SH3.exe don't worry.. Just copy and paste the SH3.exe file that you saved in STEP TWO above and do STEP FIVE again.
If you did not do STEP TWO then uninstall Silent Hunter 3 from your STEAM be sure the folder is deleted and install from STEAM again and start over.
STEP SIX: Go into your Steam Silent Hunter 3 game folder and look for a file called PATCH_SH3.
Double Click on it, A DOS window will open asking you to press any key. Do this a couple of times and the patch will make adjustments to your Steam SH3.EXE file.
STEP SEVEN: You can delete (if any) the files in the WORKING folder.
STEP EIGHT: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file 4gb_patch " into your "WORKING" folder.
Go into your "WORKING" folder CUT and PASTE the file " 4gb_patch " to your STEAM Silent Hunter 3 Folder.
STEP NINE: Go into your Silent Hunter 3 folder and double-click on the 4gb_patch. It will open a window listing all of the files in your game directory. Look for the SH3 application its a RED icon called SH3 and click on it one time to highlight it, then click "open" in the bottom right of the window. A new window will pop up saying "Executable successfully patched". Click "OK".
STEP TEN: Delete any files in the "WORKING" Folder. (There should not be any if you CUT and PASTED.)
STEP ELEVEN: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file " Tychos Patch (that works)" to your "WORKING" folder. CUT and PASTE the five files in the "WORKING" to your Silent Hunter 3 game.
STEP TWELVE: Go into your Silent Hunter 3 game folder and look for a batch file called "Tychosh3patch"
There are two files with the same name. You want the batch file that has little gears in the icon.
Double click.. A DOS window opens , "Press any key to continue..."
The window goes away.
STEP THIRTEEN: Delete all the files in your "WORKING FOLDER" (should be empty if you CUT and PASTED)
STEP FOURTEEN: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file from " jsgme_2.6.0" into your "WORKING" folder.
STEP FIFTEEN: In your "WORKING" folder run the program "jsgme_setup". The install program will ask you to select a destination folder. Click browse and direct the program to your Silent Hunter 3 folder in STEAM.

I'd recommend not editing the tycho .map-file yourself but using the tycho-files (including the map-file) that come with the ARB wideGui instead.

Now I'm confused. The files that came with the ARB WideGui MOD didn't work "out of the box" for me. I had to go into the .map file and edit it to get it working. What are these other files you speak of? Are there two sets or something?

If you look at the .map file, you will see lines that have a @ in front of them. Example below
@000A8E75: 00 00
@000A8E76: 04 08
@000A8E77: 00 00
@000A8E78: 00 00
The @ "hides" those lines from the program so it doesn't read them. Removing the @ exposes them to be read.

hello,
i know it's in the title (1920x1080) but i was wondering if anyone knows a way to make this mod work on lower resolutions aswell (mi laptop can go only up to 720p and my pc is busted atm) i found a .ini file where i was able to modify the resolution, it got past the start up crash, but the gui is croped.. are there any other files i can mess around with to maybe downscale the mod? thank yooou ^_^

Skinny try redoing the TychoSh3Patch patch. It is steps eleven and twelve of my larger post.
Make sure to download the TychoSh3Patch patch from the link in my post. There are many out there but that one worked for me.

Something must overwrite your ARB Cfg/commands, because they are working fine in ARB :yep:

STEP SIX: Go into your Steam Silent Hunter 3 game folder and look for a file called PATCH_SH3.
Double Click on it, A DOS window will open asking you to press any key. Do this a couple of times and the patch will make adjustments to your Steam SH3.EXE file.
STEP SEVEN: You can delete (if any) the files in the WORKING folder.
STEP EIGHT: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file 4gb_patch " into your "WORKING" folder.
Go into your "WORKING" folder CUT and PASTE the file " 4gb_patch " to your STEAM Silent Hunter 3 Folder.
STEP NINE: Go into your Silent Hunter 3 folder and double-click on the 4gb_patch. It will open a window listing all of the files in your game directory. Look for the SH3 application its a RED icon called SH3 and click on it one time to highlight it, then click "open" in the bottom right of the window. A new window will pop up saying "Executable successfully patched". Click "OK".
STEP TEN: Delete any files in the "WORKING" Folder. (There should not be any if you CUT and PASTED.)
STEP ELEVEN: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file " Tychos Patch (that works)" to your "WORKING" folder. CUT and PASTE the five files in the "WORKING" to your Silent Hunter 3 game.
STEP TWELVE: Go into your Silent Hunter 3 game folder and look for a batch file called "Tychosh3patch"
There are two files with the same name. You want the batch file that has little gears in the icon.
Double click.. A DOS window opens , "Press any key to continue..."
The window goes away.
STEP THIRTEEN: Delete all the files in your "WORKING FOLDER" (should be empty if you CUT and PASTED)
STEP FOURTEEN: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file from " jsgme_2.6.0" into your "WORKING" folder.
STEP FIFTEEN: In your "WORKING" folder run the program "jsgme_setup". The install program will ask you to select a destination folder. Click browse and direct the program to your Silent Hunter 3 folder in STEAM.
(DRIVE WHATEVER you installed steam into):\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Silent Hunter 3\
Make sure to check the box to create a Desktop Icon
STEP SIXTEEN: Delete the files in your "WORKING" folder.
STEP SEVENTEEN: In your "TOOLS" folder extract the file ARB WideGui 1920x1080 v0.3 into your "WORKING" folder.
STEP EIGHTEEN: In your "WORKING" folder cut and paste the folder "ARB WideGui 1920x1080" and put it in the 'MODS" folder found inside the "Silent Hunter 3" game folder.
STEP NINETEEN: Delete all of the files in your "WORKING" folder you don't need them unless you want to apply some of the other options. But they are not needed to get the game to run in widescreen.
I don't know if you noticed but there was a folder called " TychoSh3Patch_v3", you don't need it. The one you already installed in STEP TWELVE works. The one you just deleted does not. Go figure....
STEP TWENTY: In your "WORKING" folder create a folder called "ARB WideGui Fix"
STEP TWENTY-ONE: Go into your "TOOLS" folder and extract the file " ARB WideGui 1920x1080 v0.3.1" into the folder you just created in your "WORKING" folder called " ARB WideGui Fix".
After you put the files in " ARB WideGui Fix " go in that folder and delete the "changes" and "how to install" text files.
STEP TWENTY-TWO: In your "WORKING" folder CUT and PASTE the folder "ARB WideGui Fix" to the "MODS" folder in Silent Hunter 3.
STEP TWENTY-THREE: On your Desktop you should have an Icon to starts the JSGME Mod loader program.
It looks like a big yellow "G".
Run that program. A window will pop up. showing the name of you MODS folder. in this case it says MODS Click "ok"
In the left side of the window you will see the available MODS. The two ARB WideGui mods you just put in should be listed.
Click on "ARB WideGUI 1920x1080" to highlight it then click on the little ">" to load the mod. It should move to the right.
Now Click on the mod "ARB WideGui Fix" Click the ">" and load that mod. A warning message will pop up.
It's ok, Click "Yes". This will grey out the first mod you loaded. That is normal.
CLOSE the JSGME Program.
STEP TWENTY-FOUR: Delete (if any) files in your "WORKING" folder.
STEP TWENTY-FIVE: Change your Desktop Resolution to 1600x900 or lower and start the game.
The game will come up in widescreen and your navigation map will look correct.
CONGRATS!
At this point if you want you can install Grey Wolves GOLD 3.0.
Before you do make sure you first start JSGME and unload all mods. After Grey Wolves is finished installing start up JSGME and load the ARB WideGui file and fix and your all set.
I will now sit back and bask in your adoration of my brilliance.

After reading this post, I quickly checked my game and noticed those buttons do not really function for me either. Occasionally I will hear an audio confirmation from a crew member but no further actions are taken. Any idea where this issue may be stemming from? Or what those buttons are supposed to do in the first place?

The compilation mod is primarily eye candy correct? No major feature changes? I'm just not sure I want to risk my currently working installation to add yet another mod. Especially since this one doesn't seem to have any instructions. Any chance you have a link showing instructions on how to properly install that mod? The only information I have found appeared to be old with bad links and very little explanation of how it worked.

Hi Fifi, I haven't gone farther with the setup for ARB yet, other than to fix the giant split navigation map.
Did the mod builder include a fix for the flotilla choice location map for stating new careers?

Ah, good question...but i don’t think so (anyway nothing mention it in first post) and i don’t remember seeing any campaign file in this mod...
On other hand, i think SH3 Commander do this job :yep: (there are special files for Commander and GWX, from memory again)

I used to have a retail version of SH3 when it was first released some 25 years back, but haven't played it in decades, mainly as when we had a big sort out a few years back I through the DVD away.
I've been following Wolfpack345's videos in which he uses this 1080p patch / mod. So having a steam account I paid my £2.99 and downloaded the game :yeah: which naturally runs in the 768 resolution :wah:
So downloaded this patch having browsed back through his back catalogue of videos, and followed the instructions. It all goes well until I try and run the batch file when I get this error

I spent best part of a day reading through huge long threads on here, most of which originated years back... getting confused as I opened more and more pages from links. From what I can gather, some versions of SH3 have their EXE file modified in some way....

Boy, this is getting frustrating :haha:
I had everything up and running with GWX the other night, and when I started adding in other mods I wound up getting a reference error. Uninstalled, reinstalled.
I've got h.sie and Stiebler patched, Tycho patched, and ARB running (no other mods currently). SH3 starts up with the ARB load screen, but it's locked in 1024x768.
Any thoughts?

Click the 'Change high DPI settings' put a check in the High DPI scaling override box and ok.
Put a check in the Disable full screen optimisations box apply and ok.

So I just tried copying the batch files and the config file, but left the data folder as is. I also used the V16B1 mod to change the SH3 exe from steam to the stock version so the Tycho batch file worked. Through trial and error it patched the exe successfully and the game now runs at 1920 x 1080 resolution :yeah:
Juts got to remember how to play the game now :)

Good shipmate, Windows 10 is a PIG with LIPSTICK! I also feel partly the same about NVIDIA these days.

Did you install the SH3 Commander files for GWX 3.0? If yes, the problem lays with some other modification added to GWX 3.0. The solution for you will be to backtrack and remove modifications until you find the culprit.

Hawkers:k_confused:What is your list of modifications? Did you do the SH Validator check? Most likely you have an error in the cfg unit. There are different types of rosters, campaigns, and units.

1. How much zoom is the attack scope supposed to go to? I have 1.5x and 6x. Is there a 12x? Should I be able to CTRL-mousewheel to zoom or just normal mousewheel and two zoom levels?
2. I assume the observation scope has the same zoom levels?
3. When using the RAOBF wheel, I'm consistently getting incorrect ranges and AOBs. What zoom level should I be using? How many horizontal tick marks should I be counting when determining AOB (i.e. do I need to double the count or not)?
4. When opening up the RAOBF, it defaults to selecting an AOB on the scratchpad. Is the RAOBF in this mod designed to *just* do AOBs? Or can I line up the quantity of vertical ticks to 90 degrees and read off the range at the point where it lines up with the mast height? I see no other way of entering a range into the scratchpad other than using the stadimeter.
5. An ideas if using Tribute to Manual targeting followed by the MFM and Izgud's new silhouettes could be throwing off my measurements? I note that most of the silhouettes are missing reference marks to indicate whether the mast or the funnel is the intended reference height.
6. What's the division of the tick marks on the UZO to determine range? Likewise on the scopes? Does it work out to be H * 50/ticks (x1.5) or H * 200/ticks (6x) to give a rough estimate of range?

When you click on an officer Chief engineer, Navigator, Weapons, there;s a small set of order that pop up over the top of them. using 1024 768 ini is it possible to edit those graphics\orders making them larger. say the same size as the second set of commands ie, Depth under keel, Range to cores end...
I'm looking to make them larger and easier to see.
but before I start tinkering with it I wanted to ask if im looking in the right place.

Nevermind, found out what to do.
I tried installing this mod but when i run the TychoSh3Patch.bat it says that it failed.
I was able to get the SH3.exe to patch but now when I launch the game it says "cannot initialize 3D engine."
I decided to go back to subsims during the lockdown, and since my PC won't run SH5, I decided to try out SH3 with the 1920x1080 GUI. All I can say is WOW and a big thank you to the many modders who contributed.
I know many people aren't into sims from 2005, but the HD GUI is amazing. I'm two missions in to a new career and loving it. It's like finding an old friend.

Welcome back! I think you'd be surprised how strong both SH3 and SH4 are going these days. Just look at the number of people viewing each forum compared to SH5 at any given time.
In my opinion, the toughest part is dealing with Windows 10 quirks and adjusting NVIDIA gfx settings. Once that's sorted.... splish-splash, a hunting we will go!

Windows 10 hasn't been a problem (so far) after I fixed my shortcut properties for the desktop icon. Unfortunately that took me a while to sort out.
Compatibility mode (Windows 7)
Run this program as an administrator
Start in: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII"
The last one was causing it to crash after the startup splash screen. I figured that out by accident when I realized that it ran when I started from the sh3.exe file, but not from the start menu shortcut.
I'm running an AMD Radeon HD 7700 graphics card. After I turned on GPU scaling it worked fine.
I love this mod but me creen resolution its not 1920x1080 so i cant use it. can i do something about it or i need only that screen resolution. PLS help

No Dopen, you have to use JSGME and drop the mod + fix into the created MOD folder! Then activate it via JSGME.
On side note, i think without JSGME and dropping files directly into your Game/data should work too...but not very reversible.
Ok i will try it out to install them into the mod folder, but whats about the 3 "source files". And what does this files do? I cant find a instruction about them.
What do you call source files exactly?
The first Page shows 3 downloads, ARB, ARB Hotfix and Source. There are 3 files on mediafire to download when i use the source link.
You only need ARB & ARB Fix.
The source download is usually for modders to get the source for tweaks.
On side note you will find additional mods inside the ARB main download.
(Changing dials looking to your liking etc)

The ARB gui is a great piece of work, and really brings this 15 year old game to the present day. I have been trying to make a few tweaks since the last official update, particularly with the TDC salvo/single selector dials. I could use some help from someone who knows the dials.cfg and menu_1024_768.ini files.
What I have found is that for the TDC menu screen (F6) which works correctly, there are entries in dials.cfg for the Salvo_mode [Dial7], Tube_Salvo_Sel [Dial9], and Tube_Single_Sel [Dial8]. The dial hex address matches the corresponding entries in menu_1024_768.ini.
When I look at the entries for the attack periscope (F3), UZO (U), and observation periscope (O), the Tube_Single_Sel dial is missing. I'm guessing that this explains why in those screens, the selector dial is non-functional when in single mode.
Dial Name, TDC, Attack, Obs, UZO
Salvo_mode, [Dial7], [Dial62], [Dial68], [Dial82]
Tube_Salvo_Sel, [Dial9], [Dial57], [Dial63], [Dial77]
Tube_Single_Sel, [Dial8], none, none, none
Can someone take a look and suggest what to do to fix it? I don't want to rebuild and renumber the whole file if I'm on the wrong track. I also don't know how to tell what hex address to use in the definition.

Thanks. I had read that Commander solves part of the issue, but I'm not using it. The original gui appeared to hard code the salvo/single selector labels so that they would change with each class of boat. The commander files just change the background, but it doesn't seem to fix the selector dial itself.

Hello guys! I keep getting the problem that the navigation map is split down the middle, and I have done everything that I could find in order to fix this. I do believe the problem is that I can't run the .batch file when I'm trying to patch the game. Every time i try it says either:
"'binpatch' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Fail.
Press any key to continue . . ."
or
"Offset out of range: 0xa5dc6
Fail.
Press any key to continue . . ."
This problem goes for every patch of fix that requires me running a batch file

I have not had this problem, so I am not sure I can help, but I will try. Here is how I do it, using the Tychos patch as an example.
1) unzip the mod into a folder (such as Tychos Patch)
2) Inside the folder should be the TychoSh3Patch.bat file along with TychoSh3Patch.map, binpatch.exe, and Remove.bat
3) I copied the sh3.exe from the game folder (which had already been patched with the official game patches, followed by Hsie V16B1 which includes the 4GB patch) and placed the copy in the Tychos Patch folder.
4) Now I ran TychoSh3Patch.bat which gave me a new updated copy of sh3.exe
5) Then I created a folder called Tychos Patch in the /SilentHunterIII/MODS folder and copied the new sh3.exe inside it.
6) Finally I activated the Patch using JGSME
I hope that is helpful and apologize if it isn't.

If you're still having problems, follow the guide by 4HCcrashh on page 11 of this thread. He gives detailed step-by-step instructions that worked for me regarding the same issue.

Please forgive the silly question.... Is it necessary to run the d3d9 fix to set the game's res at 1920x1080 or the mod itself does it?
At the beginning, the installation of this mod seems to be very tricky, but perhaps the process is more simple..

Nope, you don’t have to run the d3d9 dll. 1920X1080 should render by activating the mod.
The only thing you have to run would be the Tycho patch to get the full map rendering, and the Tycho chrono patch to get the additional chrono working itself (if needed - not mandatory)

Slowly I am getting things clear so I don't f... up the installation process. The only thing to clear is if I MUST use SH3 Commander with this mod.

I just signed in to ask about that, but I assume those files are to be enabled via JSGME in the SH3 Commander directory, right?
Now, I see there is file that says: "Adaptation for English & Deutsch", I was wondering what is this for.... I compared the flotillas.cfg file in there with the same file in GWX and they totally different.
What is the purpose of this "Adaptation for English & Deutsch"? If I enable this, will it somehow cause malfunctions since it's altering the original GWX file?

WHAT A FANTASTIC MOD THIS IS!!!!
Just finished installing it with GWX and my jaw just dropped to the floor!!!!
Of course, it took my 3 attempts to do the whole process right, it's a bit tricky as I imagined, but in the end I managed to do it right.
It really rises this game to a new whole level, and if combined with GWX it's really fantastic!!!

Those extra files, assuming you are using GWX, don’t need to be dropped in JSGME. They have their own exe you have to double click to automatically install :yep: —-> Called GWX3 SH3Cmdr3.2
Now you need to get the TKSS18 German U-Boat Compilation mods to be fully amazed!
(You can ask on dedicated thread, there is also a special order of activation for those mods - i have done a sensor adaptation to be fully GWX compatible)
