so I wanted to continue my campaign, but had an issue where the screen was too big on my 1920x1080 HDTV obscuring the controls around the edge.

after some fumbling around, I solved it by turning GPU SCALING=OFF and PRESERVE ASPECT RATIO=ON

This is with the latest AMD drivers.

I know this is not what the instructions say, but something seems to have been modified in the more recent drivers.

Just posting this as a tip to anyone else who might have the same issue.

so I very much like this mod, however ran into some issues with the campaign gameplay.

late may 1940:

1. ran into an "enemy" convoy off the southern tip of Norway heading east, at a time when there should only be neutral/friendly ships in that area;

2. off the northern tip of Scotland, ran into a totally unprotected 5 ship convoy, no escort and none of the ships were armed, was able to sink 4 with my deck gun;

Does this mod use the SH3 stock campaign? If yes, is there a more realistic campaign mod that is available, like RSRDC in SH4?

May 1940 Norway would be classified as an enemy even though it was occupied by Germans.
Cannot answer your question regarding the campaign difficulty.

There was a red box around the contact on the Nav Map, but I did not check the flags.

Hey guys, slowly coming back to career. In the manual LSH3 Team said it was required to have minimum 8 gigs of ram and 2 on GPU to run this puppy smooth. However, is that really enough? Don't forget that there is an entire system that runs in the background + possibly couple of apps.

I guess unless you are running with that type of limited system you will not know.

In the GPU's Control Panel you may well have settings that can lower things like light shafts and shaders which are high end performance users.

You will probably see that Windows selects the default setting to take charge.
You have the option here to make preset changes or you can customize.
Also in the Advanced Tab is the option to run Programs or Background Services.

The game crashes every time I try to open a saved career mission.
I tried loading with only the main mod enabled and I even got into the game, only to crash back to the desktop in one second.
Also, when I try to start a regular mission, there is a very high chance that it will CTB. I had, despite the main mod, a different water mod and sound mod installed. What could cause that problem?

But I think Living Silent Hunter is dead to me.
The game crashes about 60% of the time I try to start a mission and i cannot load saved missions. I created a fresh carrer, saved mid patrol, wanted to load it and I crash to the desktop. But this is something for the Living Silent Hunter thread.

Maybe this is because you have a slow computer ? It happens to me too with supermods. There are so many ships to spawn that my game crashes all the time. I know this is because of too many ships, because when I make a campaign file blank (RND or SCR), the game loads without problem.

Maybe you could change to NYGM. I didn't try it, but I hear good things about it : it would be less eye candy, but more realism (although eyecandy is also realism in a way ! :haha:) . Have a try.

Sounds like you have a Windows OS problem.
SH3 does not like Windows 10 so you need to run in compatibility mode for Windows 7.
You also need to run your SH3.exe, SH3Commander and JSGME.exe in administrator modes.
Look at my tutorials and make sure that you have followed the installing and the advice that I am giving.
At the moment you are not showing me any reason why you cannot play LSH3-2015 successfully with a little help.
It would be useful to see you computer specs.

Nun, ich hatte am Ende keine Lust mehr rumzuspielen.
Ich habe etliches versucht, unter anderem auch verschiedene Kompabilitätsmodi und die Adminsache, verschiedene Mods ausschalten etc.
Ich hab mir am Ende GWX runtergeladen und das läuft ohne Probleme. Ich werde aber nochmal rumprobieren, ich habe mir zum Glück den "sauberen" Ordner kopiert und hab dne in Reserve.

Ins Spiel rein komme ich ja, aber wenn es läft, stürzt es ab.
Edit: GWX stürzt auch in regelmäßigen Abständen ab. Irgendwas stimmt da nicht.

That's what I did. The main mod and widescreen only should be enabled.

Yes, I tested this already with one class and that produces one error message less indeed. But there are so many wrong! Looks like probably all of them. LSH Fullversion mod changes that number as it most likely replaces that file. What's the point of changing all that. Others don't have that problem it seems, so where does it come from?

Yes, that solved it for me. Old GWX didn't unload properly with an older version of JSGME for some reason. Installed it virgin and now it works! Thanks for mentioning "another mod" which made re-think what could be wrong.

Your problem should not be happening in the first place, and so should not need to be fixed.
You have some sort of corruption going on from one or more of the installation files.
It is recommended after downloading to check the file byte sizes before installing.

I've been away from SH III for a long, long time. Back in the day I played it with the GWX mod and some other mods. Reading about the Living Silent Hunter 3 Super Mod has me wanting to give it a go again.

I just want to make sure that I'm installing it correctly before I start. Please let me know if this is the correct process (yes, I've read the manual but it doesn't say anything about getting SH III "prepped" for the installation - unless I missed it, which is possible).

1. Using the JSGME uninstall all active mods.
2. Completely remove any trace of SH Commander from the computer (I thought I saw a thread mentioning this, but will be damned if I can find it again).
3. Install LSH3 as per the instructions in the manual.

Also, do I have to have a fresh installation of SH III or will "unmodding" it suffice?

Best to always start a new mega mod with a fresh install. JSGME sometimes doesn't put back in the stock game files correctly or not at all when you uninstall mods with it. I wouldn't chance it if I where you.

The other day I got a radiomessage saying that I could resupply at certain points on the ocean. How can you resupply while on patrol? Or is that just eyecandy?

It's a feature called "U-Tanker". You can dock on the "U-Tanker" and take supplies over.
But you need a bugfix for it.

I made a mistake and posted in the general SH3 forum so I am reposting here after being told this is the correct place for this subject. My computer quit on me so I bought a new computer and it has windows 10 like my old one did. I had zero troubles loading the game and lots of mods on the old one, with this one I am having trouble just getting the game installed. I went through the tutorials step by step and here is my problem. On Post #5 of the tutorials I have named my folder SilentHunterIII. In your picture of your SHIII folder you show subfolders of data, documentation and support. My SilentHunterIII folder has none of those sub folders. But I choose my SilentHunterIII folder and click "ok", this is at picture 5 in the installation tutorial. Immediately I get an this error message

You have selected this path
D:\SilentHunterIII\
No valid SH3.EXE found in this folder.

Can someone please guide me to where I am making my mistake.
I have tried using the free download manager to speed things up and then move SH3 to my folder, and I have tried downloading straight to my folder. Neither way makes any difference, I always get this same error message at this stage of the installation. I'm at a loss as to where my SH3.EXE is located.

I can't get this to work with the Uplay version of SH3. I've made the folder named to SH3LSH15 and it's located in G:\Ubisoft\SH3LSH15

On running the LSH15 installer it tells me "No valid SH3.EXE found!"

I've followed every tutorial I can find but haven't had any luck.

LSH3 Installation with Uplay, Amazon and Steam

1. Create a new folder. Example: G:\Games.

2. Search the original SH3 Game. Normally you can find it in a subfolder of Uplay, Amazon or Steam. The SH3 original game folder is usually "Silent Hunter 3" (or "Silent Hunter III", depending on the provider). In this folder must be a file called sh3.exe.

3. Copy the complete folder into G:\Games. The SH3-copy is then under G:\Game\Silent Hunter 3 or Silent Hunter III.

4. Remove the spaces in the folder name "Silent Hunter 3" or "Silent Hunter III". The location is then G:\Game\SilentHunter3 or SilentHunterIII.

5. Now you can install LSH3 Edition 2015.

If you do not have any subfolder in the SH3 folder you have not properly installed the game....LSH3 not install ...any mod none can be installed because there is not the game

After spending 2 frustrating evenings trying to get this MegaMod to install, I decided to reach out for some help.

My system is running Windows 10 Professional 64 bit. Meets all the requirements for the game and then some.

I was playing SHIII with the GWX Gold Megamod (modded) a few years ago but ended up moving on to some other simming. After reading about LSH 2015 I decided it was time to revisit this sim that I had enjoyed so much in the past.

I am installing the original game from a non-StarForce Dvd that also has the 1.4b patch. When installing from the Dvd the only thing I did not allow to be installed was the "Game Shadow" feature. Just seemed to be silly to me to allow that feature to be installed on a sim/game that in its original form is pretty long in the tooth, so to speak.

I have the location that I re-installed SHIII to and the folders that I downloaded the multi-part files to on the same drive, in this case D.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

It is important that all the files are in a new folder before starting the LSH3-2015 installation.
In the tutorial it is called LSH3Split.
It is also important to uninstall your previous SH3 installation and then use a registry cleaner before re-booting and re-installing.
It is a good idea to make at least 1 game copy from the installation so you do not need to use the dvd again.
You can run 1 other SH3 game without using multi SH3 as LSH3 does not use the SH3 saved games folder.

IIRC there must not be any spaces in the installation path but there is one -> New Volume :timeout:

It seems that the InstallShieldWizard installed only the files from Data1.cab which is on the DVD. The files from Data11.cab are possibly missing.

Rename 'New Volume' to something without spaces; run the setup.exe on DVD directly as admin.

"New Volume" is what the PC calls my D drive for some reason. Came that way from the manufacturer. Not sure if I should mess with that. I had only created the"SilentHunterIIILSH" folder prior to installation.

I'll have a go at reinstalling making sure to run the installer as an administrator.

Yes, I have run CC Cleaner a few time before I did my installation attempts.

I have tons of space on my D drive, 664 GB free.

I have Windows Explorer set to show hidden files.

Thanks for the graphics - I renamed that drive using a single name without any spaces.

OK, for the umpteenth time today I tried to install - no luck. As one of the posters noted, for some reason the install program is not copying over the files from CAB 11 file. Any ideas?

I even went to the drive the SHIII DVD was in and changed the compatibility of the install exe to Win 7 with Administrator rights. That made no difference whatsoever.

Also when trying to launch the game before attempting to mod it - just to see what happens, I get an error message about missing the "Movietex.act" file. I suppose that is part of the Cab 11?

I suppose another option might be to buy the game on Steam and see if I can get it run and then mod it...

Another attempt was to install it to C:\SilentHunterIII by using the 'change installation folder' option during installation.

If that should work you can move the whole installation folder whereever you want after setup is completed; renaming that folder is possible, too.

OK, gave it one more shot at installing the game to the newly renamed drive. It installed and I can launch the game.

However (seems there is always a "however"), I'm back to square one as far as installing LSH goes, I run the exe as administrator, click on English for my language and then click OK. I then get a box with an error message that says:

"Unable to locate packed archive".

The LSH files and SHIII are on the same drive.

I'm back to square one as far as install LSH goes. This is the problem I've had ever since trying to install LSH. I have deleted and downloaded the files several times and have checked that they are the right size.

Any ideas?

That was going to be my next step. However (there's that word again), I had initially tried that but the LSH server timed out after 1 hr so the download wouldn't complete.

I had made that attempt before I used the file download manager that is recommended on the LSH site. Tonight I'll use the download manager to download the one file installer before turning in to bed and see what has happened when I get up in the morning.

Also check that your files are not read only.
Do not install in the SH3 main game folder.

First post, so first things first -

YIKES! :sunny:

You guys did one tremendous job on this mod, this is a whole new game - and considering the original was fine, your improvements are obviously the stuff of legend! So, heartfelt thanks for your efforts, i'm one happy player! :)

One quick question; which i've so far been so far unable to solve - i'm at St. Nazaire in the 7th with my VIIC, happily amassing Tonnage. I was looking very much forward to transfer over to the 30th in Konstanza and having another spin in the IID (i've had tremendous fun in the Einbäume :P already).

Only problem is - one can't downgrade from a larger boat ingame it seems. I've played around with my career - .cgf files after backing them up, and dismissed some of my crew to fit them back in the IID; but though i found some mention of SubType=1 and SubVersion=1 (which denotes a VIIC i believe?) i don't seem to be able to change it permamently back to my desired IID! :hmmm:

Any idea how this could be achieved? I'd be very much obliged :) .

If you cannot down grade boat's you can start a new career in the time period of your choice and any available boat that is showing in the SH3Commander's type drop down box.

You cannot take your crew with you but you can adjust your renown if it is important to your new career.

You will need to do the test mission and then you can transfer to any flotilla that is in the time period when your test patrol has ended.

Well, things have not gone well.

I'm done trying to make this work. Spent several hours on it today, again.

I have been able to install SHIII (repeatedly). Have also been able to get LSH 2015 to install.

Prior to the install of LSH 2015 I could launch SHIII. After the install of LSH 2015 when I attempt launch SHIII (as per the tutorials from TheBerbster) I get the an error message from Windows saying that the application has encountered a problem. This is after following The Berbster's tutorials exactly (I'm not attaching any blame to him, none whatsoever!).

I thought it might have been AVG causing the problem. During the installations, I had AVG disabled. After the installation, I re-enabled AVG but kept getting warning messages about an LSH exe file. So, I deleted AVG, deleted my SHIII/LSH files and reinstalled all the SHIII/LSH files again.

Same result - the same error message from Windows.

I'm sure this is a wonderful mod and my salute :Kaleun_Salute: to all those who have created it. Also a salute and a pint or three to those who have posted here offering advice :Kaleun_Cheers: :Kaleun_Cheers: :Kaleun_Cheers:

After the install of LSH 2015 when I attempt launch SHIII LSH3 should be launched from SH3Commander not from SHIII.
This is because you need to set up your V15 saved games folder by entering the Naval Academy.
Also this must only be done with 2 mods enabled as per tutorial instructions.

I get the an error message from Windows saying that the application has encountered a problem.
In properties run as administrator and make sure read only is not ticked.
AVG does not like the HSIE application because it contains an .exe and takes it as a threat and blocks it.
This can be overcome by setting the SH3.exe and HSIE.exe as exceptions.

I still think you are missing something easy that is causing you this frustration.
Can' see the woods for the trees, lol.

I am running Windows 10 64bit and have tried launching without a compatibility box checked and with Win 7 compatibility checked - no luck.

I am running SH3, SH3 Commander and JSGME as administrator.

I unchecked the "read only" box in SH3.EXE and that didn't make any difference, either.

AVG is gone from my system, should have removed it long ago. Too many false-positives. Replaced it with Avast.

LSH3 should be launched from SH3Commander not from SHIII.


This has me confused because in TheBerbsters tutotial it says here:

There it looks like a person is supposed to launch the game with the SH3.exe that is in the main game folder in order to get to the Naval Academy.

This afternoon I thought I would give it another shot. However, for some reason the setup.exe on my original non-starforce dvd is not copying over the CAB 11 file again.

Looked on Steam, and SHIII is on sale for only $5.00. I think I'll just buy it there and be done with it.

I have a question about installing LSH 2015 into the Steam version. When I read the tutorial from TheBerbster about installing LSH into the Steam version, there isn't any mention of first launching the game via the SH3.exe file and going through the Naval Academy.

Steam Installation Instructions.

1) Install silent hunter 3 via Steam.

2) Find the copy of SH3 inside your steam folder like D: \ Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ steamapps \ common \ Silent Hunter 3.

3) Now paste the entire Silent Hunter 3 folder somewhere on your hard disk like D: \ Games \ Silent Hunter 3

4) Rename your Silent Hunter 3 folder to "SilentHunter3". It is important that the name has no spaces.

5) You should now be able to install LSH 2015. Once you have started the installer the only thing you have to do is finding and selecting your "SilentHunter3" folder.

6) Make sure you activate at least the mods called "_LSH3-2015___FULLVERSION" and "_LSH3-2015___Patch_HSIE-V16B1" with JSGME.EXE

7) Run "HsieOptionsSelector.exe" and select the options you like, then confirm.

8) Run "SH3Cmdr.EXE". Select what you like and click on the check mark box in the bottom right corner of the program to start the game!

Is the Naval Academy no longer necessary when adding LSH to the Steam version?

Just want to make sure that I'm doing this correctly.

Alright, have the game up and running. Bought the Steam version and installed it as per the instructions from TheBerbster :)

New problem, I'm attempting the Navigation turtorial/exam in the Naval Academy. I remember on my previous install of SHIII/GWX there was a set of dials on the lower screen that I could use to select my heading, speed and depth. In the Naval Academy navigation mission the briefing states:

The speed of your boat can be controlled with the engine order telegraph of the left side of the three controls of the bottom right of the user interface.

Those user interfaces are not showing up in LSH.

How do I get them to show? Pretty difficult to control the boat otherwise...

I think LSH uses slideout dials -> move the cursor to screen sides at several positions.

Another possibility:
During installation the InstallShieldWizard temporarily extracts these .cab files to the system's TMP folder which is usually on C: drive/partition. After extraction they're moved to the installation folder.
Maybe your C: drive/partition is out of enough disk space?

The Naval Academy tutorials are only optional and not compulsory.
The Naval Academy's purpose in LSH3 is to build the V15 save games folder.
Your interface should look like this when the game loads to the Command Room.
There is also a slide out set of commands on the left side which you can just see the edge of.

Looks like the stock game without the 2 LSH3 mods enabled?
The blank part of the picture looks like a classic Direct X problem.
I take it your GPU settings are correct as per tutorial.
It could be a corruption from your game installation.
All SH games have to use the Direct X that comes with the game.
DirectX 9.0C (http://filehippo.com/download_directx/)

My advice would be to make a clean installation of SH5 making sure that you do a complete uninstall from the Control Panel's Program and Features.
Delete your SH3 game folder that contains JSGME.
Example C:\Games\SilentHunter3
Delete the SilentHunter3 folder leaving you with the Games folder.
Check that the V15 games folder in C:\Documents has also been uninstalled.
Run Ccleaner and reboot your system.

Install your game in lets say C:\Games\SilentHunter3 again.
Make a copy or more of SilentHunter3 giving each copy a new name and paste it or them to a safe place..
In C:\Games\SilentHunter3 go to the SH3.exe and Run administrator and if Windows 10 change to Windows 7.
Start the new stock game from the SH3.exe and go to the Naval Academy.
Choose the Navigation Tutorial.
If all is well here then you know that your SH3 installation is okay and you now have a backup copy or copies of it.
Entering the Naval Academy will create a SH3 saved games folder in your documents that you can delete.

Go to your copy and rename it to SilentHunter3.
Copy and paste it in the Games folder so it overwrites the existing Silent Hunter3 stock game that you have just used.
Install LSH3-2015 as per instructions and you should be ok.

The blank/black portion you are seeing in that screenshot is due to my taking a picture of it with my cell phone. When I run the game it is in full screen and everything looks fine. I would like to get those dials to show up like in your screenshot, but if I can't, I can live without them as I can access them from the left side of the screen.

I used the cell phone method since I was in a hurry to post before I left for work. It's been so long since I've played SHIII I can't remember how to take a screenshot while in the sim :hmmm:

After looking at screenshots that others have posted, I must be missing a mod for the attack computer/Weapons officer. I cannot get the Weapon's officer to assist in torpedo targeting and seem to be missing some dials/icons. Please see the screenshots of the attack periscope position and the UZO.

The interface you are showing in your picture is not _LSH3-2015_GUI__WIDESCREEN mod.

I did not write the Steam tutorial but this mod information is incorrect.
6) Make sure you activate at least the mods called "_LSH3-2015___FULLVERSION" and "_LSH3-2015___Patch_HSIE-V16B1" with JSGME.EXE Only 2 mods should be enabled.

_LSH3-2015_GUI__WIDESCREEN

Starting the game through the SH3.exe and going to the Naval academy builds the V15 save game folder.
It is not compulsory to take any exams or even load a tutorial.
You can earn you an extra 1000 renown if you complete an exam.

Maybe you could post your mod list might show where things are going wrong.

Looking at my mods, I seem (for reasons unknown) to have enabled one that I shouldn't have. After I get to port I'll remove the _LSH3-2015_GUI_OLC_Widescreen mod and see if that fixes the issue.

I can see your problem
You have 2 GUI mods enabled.
The default WIDESCREEN and OLC.

Your picture shows the OLC mod overwriting the default WIDESCREEN mod.
Need to make a choice one or the other but not both.

The OLC GUI is designed to work with the RAOBF wheel.

Incidentally although the Steam tutorial is not my work I have re-written it to take out the errors.

Still managed to sink all 4 ships in the Rockall convoy despite not having any help from the WO :D (Not saying some torpedoes didn't miss though!)

I have searched the downloads section and tried to search the forums but I'm not having much luck. Is there a mod that can be used with JSGME that will install medals for the Kriegsmarine that are historically correct? I'm talking about the Iron Cross, KC, Uboat badge, etc...

I am not aware of any medal mods.
There are mods that contain medals like the KM ones found in downloads.
These will have tga file containing medals.
Whether these are accurate or not I do not know?
You would need to investigate and see if they are usable.
Back up any game file first in case the replacement does not work.

After longer time i’m glad to give some news/technical preview about LSH3 Edition 2017.

About new Installer:


- All Windows Version considered (include Windows 10)
- All SH3 Version considered (include all SH3 online buy versions Uplay, Steam, Amazon)
- Hardware check
- All (today) SH3.EXE versions considered (no care about SH3 Patch version and/or Starforce stuff)
- Original game SH3 will copy first
- Installation process works by "one klick"

Timeline to release:

- Supermod content finished December 2016
- These days we finish the new LSH3 Installer and Launcher App
- Rewright 30 Information documents (PDF) and some instructions videos - in german and english
- Beta Tests need (+/-) 60 days.

All in all i count August or September to release final Edition 2017.

Hi there,

Sorry to bother you. First of all thank you very much for all the great work you have done in keeping SH3 alive. I had quit playing GWX some years ago and now decided to try LSH3-2015. What I have seen so far looks great and I'm looking forward to LSH3-2017 in summer.

There's one little catch however:
I cannot seem to get any widescreen mod to work with my setup. First of all I naturally went to my graphics settings to activate "GPU scaling" and set it to "maintain aspect ratio".

Nevertheless I always get the "cannot initialze 3D engine" message as soon as I activate one of the Widescreen Mods. I tried using only the _LSH3-2015__FULLVERSION and _LSH3-2015_GUI__WIDESCREEN mods in JSGME. As soon as I deactivate the widescreen mod, SH3 starts in 4:3 mode with two black bars left and right.

Am I doing something wrong? Any ideas?

I still had Windows 7 64 bit installed on a different partition as well and installed SH3 and LSH3-2015 there with an older Catalyst Pack from 2015. THAT works quite well. Will now try with an older Catalyst version on Windows 10 as well.

On Windows 10 I used the older version I once downloaded via amazon.

What you need to is get a clean un-modded installation of SH3 and make a copy of it.
You now have a backup copy which you never add anything to it.
At this point there is no saved game folder until you go to the Naval Academy which is fine as you do not need to do that with this backup copy.
Making a backup copy means you will never need to do another installation download.
You always have the backup copy to take another copy from it, as and when, you want to use it for whatever purpose.

SH3 does not like Windows 10
Run all your applications JSGME, SH3Comander as administrators including the SH3.exe in the HSIE mods folder along with HSIE application.
Both of the SH3.exe should be run in compatibility mode for Windows 7.

Thanks for your patience. Many years ago I did some modding for SH2 and later in the beginning with SH3 before the supermods came along and I was completely out of my league. :-)

However, since then I had always used a fresh clean installation of SH3, and I have had a pretty good idea what to expect, and how to treat mods with or without JSGME. That's why I was so puzzled that I couldn't get it to work.
But if you say Windows 10 an SH3 don't get along too well, I will stick with Windows 7. That's no problem at all. I always keep an extra partition with the older OS for cases such as these.

As I said: LSH3 works flawlessly with my Windows 7. :salute:

As far as JFO is concerned there is only one way to find out.

Long time no see. Just got a new rig and here I am playing SH3. Anyway trying to get LSH working properly. It works but cannot get the widescreen to work. I have read, followed re-read, followed the instructions. I have a Nividia 1070a win 10. I noticed there is no d3d9.cfg file. I tried adding this then enabling the mode via Jsgme. That did not work either.
So when I enable LSH full version, then try to enable widescreen I get a lot of warnings. Seems as though the wide screen mods, I've tried them all (that are included with dl) and all I get is a black screen.
I have gone into the Nividia control panel and did what the instructions said, yadda yadda yadda.
Any suggestions? What am I missing?

As far as i know there is a problem with the last Win 10 update (Creaters Update) with the Wide Screen mod of LSH3 V15

There are problems with the widescreen GUI at LSH3. Whether it is related to the creators update is not safe.
The Creators Update does not actually contain anything that could cause these problems.
CCoM works with Ahnenerbes Widescreen GUI and Widescreen MaGui and LSH3 is based on CCoM.

The default LSH3 widescreen mod works with no problems at all.
I have just had a Windows 10 update to v1603 and it is working fine.

I have had an email from LSH3 support that the latest Windows update Creator v1703 has caused a problem with the widescreen mod.
Until this is fixed it will delay LSH3-2017 being released.

LSH3 support do not have Windows 10 and I cannot presently help them until my system updates to Creator.

Microsoft is I believe currently updating those who purchased Windows 10 on systems and dvd with those who updated from Windows 7 to Windows 10 to be updated later.

with v1603 the widescreen GUI works, with v1703 not.

You can download and install v1703, when you go to settings/update and security and signing on for the creators update. Click on the blue writing.
After confirming the privacy policy, you will receive the creators update.

As I said, Ahnenerbe's widescreen and MaGui work with CCoM under v1703. LSH3 V15 is based on CCoM.

Interestingly, I found Ahnenerbe's wide screen mod never was fully wide screen with LSH3-2015, there was always a gap down the sides even though it was 1920 x 1080.

unfortunately I do not know it. My Lenovo T520 has only a resolution of 1600x900 and the creators update can not be installed, the installation breaks with an error message. Ahnenerbes widescreen can be installed, but the compass is only a quarter on the screen.

But there is good news. Hauptmann from the LSH3 team has found a solution.

First, keep in mind Windows Creators is still in beta/Developer preview. So your graphic driver is not probably up-to-date... at least from a Microsoft Point-of-view... Yet, some Manufacturers may provide an update for that upcoming upgrade. But given such updates from the manufacturer may not be fully certified/tested for build 1703, It should be best (for the time being) to rely on Microsoft graphic driver instead of the one from the manufacturer. Here how:

Procedure to upgrade manually the graphic driver issued by Microsoft:

2- right-click on "Computer Management" and select "Run as Administrator"
3- You will see in the tree-view "Device Manager", click on it

I have two (2) machines: First machine (ALPHA) with an AMD Radeon 290 R2 Graphic card, the second machine (BRAVO) has an Nvidia 750i graphic card + embedded Intel graphics card 4006.

RESULTS:
Both machines are running LSH3 V15 in WIDESCREEN (both WS-GUI and WS-OLC Flavours tested )

I got the blackScreen with the Nvidia card, which I solved with the procedure outlined before. Unlike many I'm also always going through "New Career", which write fresh config files under "My Documents" folder.

Note: d3d9.dll and d3d9.ini files are OK. They are not the cause of the black screen.

Thank you for your im portant information to the new Windows Updates (includig the new Grafik-Driver updates from Nvidia/Amd).

In fact: Since Microsoft release first (beta) Creators Update for W10 lots of players have problem now to start LSH3 with additional WS-GUI (Game load, sounds well but only black screen).
Since a view weeks i know also about problem by W7(!) in combination newest Grafik-Drivers as well!

the great widescreen GUI-Mods "Ahnenerbe" and "MaGUI" ar NOT comparable with the LSH3 widescreen GUI conception.

Both use other (older) d3d9.dll and both use differen d3d9.ini settings as LSH3. Only Ahnenerbe use the real HD res 1920x1080, great work but the one and important real scalling problem in game (Maps/Grids and stuff) still not solved yet.

Our goal is to mod the "whole" SH3 game conten "full scalable" up to 1920x1080! Hauptman works on it.

Another hot hint is to change the (width) resollution from 1360px up to 1366px! Try this - change the:

3. Save and reactivate the WS Mod

Right now we know that this works by some of our tester!

Try to run the game in compilation mode "Win7"

For the Problem with Win 10 with the Creator Update and the AMD driver for your graphiccard. Perhaps you try an older driver befor May 2017.
I can give you no better solution because i own a nvidia graphic card.

I would suggest you have a look at my tutorials as suggested by Harm.
LSH3-2015 is different to GWX as your game is controlled to some extent by the test flotilla Eprobungstelle.
Unlike GWX things have to be done in a certain way.

My questions are:

1. Is there any difference between the main LSH/SH3 install and the second install that was created?

Do I install LSH in both versions with JSGME? I did.

Do you always start both versions with the SH3 Commander exe?

Is there a command to stop the boat from rocking? It affects my vertigo.

Not something I am familiar with I am afraid.

Multiple SH3 installations: If you want to play single missions or in online multiplayer mode in addition to a career, you should use a separate SH3 installation for each mode. During installation of LSH3 Edition 2015 you have the option to create an additional second installation. Further copies can be created with SH3-MULTICOPY at any time. This appears in the installation instructions.

There is no difference between the two versions. But it makes sense to use several installations, one like Theberbester said for the career, the other for singlemissions for example

You will get two Copys from SH3. LSH will not work until you enable it via JSGME. Otherwise you have only one basic version

Yes you do. You use JSGME to activate the mods. You can use different Mods for each of your copys.

You can start the versions via the SH3Commander, but you need a separate one for each.

Hello to all When installing LSH gives you the option to put the same game twice. The two facilities are the same but one is only for the race and the other is for the missions only. You should not use a game installation for both. I think it can be so that it works better and the load times of the game are not very long. Personally I do not mind having twice the game nor the GB that occupy me because for my LSH V15 is the best.

hey everyone. have a problem loading save game after sinking ships in my patrol. beginning my patrol before war breaks out with poland going to grid AO83 and saving during that patrol and when loading that save game is no problem. When after war is declared on poland and i start my patrol and sink polish ships and save my progress. i quit for the day and on returning the next day to continue my patrol, i can not load my save game. I try loading previous saves of that same patrol and no go. Although before sinking ships of that same patrol i can load with no problem. Any ideas why?

I think it would be a good idea for you to run through my tutorials.
I do not think this is a compatibility issue although I have entered some dialogue below for you to look at.

LSH3 and SH3 in general do not like Windows 10 so you should run your game in Windows 7 compatibility mode.
It is also important to run your applications (.exe) as administrators.
If your system has recently updated to Windows 10 Creator version 1703 you also might need to tick the box to 'Override High DPI scaling,' this also can be found by opening the compatibility tab.

I think your problem is something you have either done, or not done that is the issue here.
When starting LSH3-2015 for the first time, Naval Academy, and then the Eprobungstelle test mission, and then transferring it has a set set of procedures that must be carried out in the right order, something you do not find with other SH3 variants.

With Windows 7 you should not need to run in a compatibility mode, just make sure you have enabled administrators as this makes a big difference to your access rights.

You could try to run the game in XP Mode if you still face the problem.
Another thing is not so save games near to konvois, or sunk ships or dived.

If I create another game installation for single player missions will the in-game world still have living ports, ships, convoys etc spawning or will it only load units which are directly placed in the mission editor?

A shame, I know that people like to just place down units and battle against eachother but I see the mission editor as more of a 'custom campaign' rather than single pitched battles; so having the naval traffic spawning within the single mission adds to the freedom of it all. Placing down destroyer patrols represent some hightened security rather than being the sole Allied presence.

Also, I've had trouble loading my career games as it crashes when loading a save.

Your game crashing when loading a game save will be down to a Windows compatibility issue.
If you are running Windows 10 then you need your SH3.exe to run in compatibility mode Windows 7.
All applications should be run as administrators as this will help to stability.

If you have only one SH3 installation and you play the campaign, you can also play the single missions with this installation. But then the loading of the single mission will take a long time.
This is the main reason why there is the Single Mission No Carrer Fastload Mod.
The activation and deactivation of MODs is always a risk to the SH3 installation. The second installation for the single missions is only for security.

In the single missions only the units appear, which the creator of the single missions have inserted. The only exception are aircraft.

In my test mission for the New DC Shake MOD, there are occasional aircraft appearing, which I have never inserted in the mission.

The game is displaying English text and English voices but the gauges in the game and buttons are in German. Is there a way to show them in English? Actually, I reinstalled, and everything now appears to be in English. I also solved a black screen issue when attempting to use the widescreen mods. T-Bear pointed out that your main cfg. must be set to Synchronized=Yes. This fixed my black screen issue immediately. I hope if others are having this issue which I know they are from the forums, this will fix it.

Dear L/SH3 Subsimer

Longer time ago to bring us important good news here.

The problem „L/SH3 show only black screen… but with sound“ (only with Widescreen Mods) is solved.

If you got this problem do this:

1. Deactivate every Widescreen-GUI Mod by JSGME
2. Start SH3 in original display size (Format 4:3)…
3. Go to game options > graphic > and check/change setting “SYNCHRON/V-SYNC” to ACTIV !
4. Save new setting and leave the game
5. Reactivate the Widescreen-GUI Mod in JSGME and start the game again

That should solve the problem, in every Windows version and with every graphic card driver version.

ello folks! After a very long time I have come back to SHIII and gone out on patrol again using LSH2015. One thing I noticed though is that when you pause things, the screen gets fairly obscured with a big black/red bar besides the words game paused.

In my memory vanilla SHIII didn't have that and just said the words. Now I know it is not necessarily 100% realistic to pause and still be able to do things but for example I would like to be able to pause and go through the recognition manual without being too hurried (I like the fact that there are many new ships ad it has expanded a lot though!) :)

I attempted a google and a forum search on how to modify the pause screen but didn't find the answer, hence this post. Is there a easy way for me to edit this or is it "hardcoded" into the LSH mod?

An interesting one:hmmm:
This what I would do if it where me.
Go to C:\Documents\SH3
Make a copy of the SH3 folder.
Uninstall SH3 completely including the same game folder or delete it if still showing.
Use a registry cleaner and then reboot your system.

Install SH3.Installation path examples C:\GWX
As soon as the installation is completed make a copy of it and rename the path to for example and C:\LSH3 make sure the path is different to the other one.
This should work as at this point there are no saved game folders created.

You can make another copy as a back up unmodded if you wish.

If you are running Windows 10 both of your installion SH3.exe will need to be set set to compatibility Windows 7.
Run all applications as administrators.

You now run install 1 GWX and go to the naval academy and it will install your SH3 save game folder.
Go to where you saved your old SH3 folder and copy and paste the data folder to the new SH3 folder.
You can now install GWX and everything else you previously had when you are ready to do so.

Install LSH3-2015 as per my tutorial instructions.
When you go to the naval academy it will create your new V15 save game folder.
You should now have 2 independent games running.

I am not aware of any larger tools available for LSH3-2015.
My suggestion would be to take a copy of the GWX or Magui mouse cfg file and experiment with it in LSH3 after making a back up copy of the mouse cfg file first.
If things do not work out you can always restore the original LSH3 file again.

I am running LSH III from a Steam install on my current machine. Once I have Steam installed on my new rig, can I just copy over from the old machine my LSH III folders to it?

If you are already running a STEAM conversion I can see no reason why you cannot copy everything over.

Second, in LSH3 2015 destroyer behaviour is very passive. I can attack a convoy and reload torpedoes at periscope depth without them noticing me or even actively searching for me, even in calm water and fairly late in the war. Enabling the mod "extended challenge" does not alter that in any apparent way. Is there a mod you know of that can make them more aggressive?

It is not that you are being ignored just no one at present has an answer to your question.
Smoke is in data\Textures\TNormal\tex
And also in Mods\LSH3-2015_FULLVERSION\data\Textures\TNormal\tex
Maybe you can compare the LSH3-2015 files to the stock ones.
If you decide to test with the stock files remember to backup the LSH3-2015 ones first.

2- AI detection parameters can be modified in data/Cfg/Sensors.cfg, data/Cfg/SIM.CFG and in data/Library/AI_Sensors.dat.

I purchased the Ubisoft version of SH3 and seems like there is an issue to install this supermod. Initially was an error for spaces into paths which I manually fixed but then I received another error message that no SH3.exe could be found.

I couldn't find a way around it with Ubisoft's version as I renamed the SH3_g .exe file to SH3.exe so had to find another version. All good and well with installation. However now there appears to be another problem :k_confused::k_confused:

When I try to start the naval academy the game is crashing just before the load is complete. Tried to go directly with campaign and again the same.

Tried everything from the Q&A regarding compatibility but is not working. The patch appears to be installed correctly. Is it possible to be the order of the loaded mods?

Also one more thing, the Commander JSGME can't find any mods. Checked the mods folder and nothing is there. Is this something to expect?

Just found a non Ubisoft version of the game and everything works like a charm. Ubisoft.........no words to describe them mate. I paid a bit extra as I could have save my self from buying their version but I am happy. Playing all day now :Kaleun_Cheers:

I was wondering is someone would be so kind as to share their video card settings with me. I have a new gaming rig that has a Nvidia GTX 1070. The game loads fine and all that, but I have a bad case of the jagged edges on objects. I've been using the settings I had in my old card, a GTX 670, but can't seem to get rid of them.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I do not have SweetFX installed (didn't use it on my previous gaming rig, either, and didn't have the jagged problem. The graphics were great!). Also the SweetFX info in those posts is very old, some of it from 2012.

Edit: Got it sorted! Played with the FXAA setting in the Nvidia Display panel - works now :-)

Hello everybody

I have installed the steam version of the game and the LSH 2015 edition. but for godsake i cannot change the resolution to Full HD. it stays at 1024 and the game really looks not good


i have tried every trick i could found on forums, ini editing etc.

also i was not able to found an explanaition how the included high res mod in LSH is used ?


every time i choose an Widescreen UI in the mod manager my game crash at the beginning (black screen, sound playing)


i hope somebody has some advice

I wanted to install LSH on my current pc.
So I reinstalled SH3 on my D: drive
D:\SilentHunterIII except it didn't put it there - it ended up in VTRoot the hidden folder on drive C:. After about 3 attempts (yep I turned off my virus checker) I finally got SH3 to install & run perfectly in the D:\SilentHunterIII folder.
Then I went to install LSH3 2015 and it can't see the D:\SilentHunterIII folder when it comes to searching for the game folder. Every other folder in D: is listed except the one I want!

Can anyone shed some light on this please?
Running Core i5 quad 3.4 Ghz quad with 20Gb RAM and Win 7 64bit.

I moved a copy of my steam SH3 to desktop (would that suffice to above?)

it had the correct memory patch etc already. And did everything advised in patiently setup and LSH website.

Sadly it takes so long to load i wouldn't mind waiting if it was stable but then after all that wait it crashes or freezes for me!

Wish there were more realistic mods like GWX LSH that were much more stable.

It was supposed to be released in 2016 but never happened.
It was then set, and ready for release in 2017 until the Microsoft Creator problems with the black screen has put the release date back yet again.

Hello people.

I've admitted defeat in getting LSHIII running, after a day of attempting various fixes I've seen on the multitude of pages. I'm sure it's something stupid I've neglected. But I need help from others now :oops:

My OS is W10 home, x64, 1709 creators update.

The problem is launching the game, either from the SH3 exe or LSH through Commander - I initially get a black screen, which after about 2 seconds minimises to a corner of the display and I get a "can not initialize 3D engine" prompt.

I believe I've followed Berbsters installation instructions correctly, after converting my steam version.

I tried the newest nvidia driver 388.43 with no luck. Then I tried one recommended to be compatible - 387.92.

I also tried W7 compatibility mode, enabling override high DPI scaling behaviour, scaling is set to aspect ratio, perform scaling on GPU.

Refresh rate 30Hz, only other options are 25 and 29.

I've probably tried other things which escape me for the moment.

I'd be glad of any help folks.

EDIT: 1. I'm wondering if it's Directx related and I need to install 9.0c?? 2. I tried letting windows troubleshoot compatibility with no success - it tried Windows XP sp3.

You have most likely diagnosed your trouble there with your last sentences. "Yes Nerazzurri, you do need to install DirectX v9.0C" when you install the game, ~then~ do all the pre-setup work for LSH...

There are "compatibility" files in v9.0C that are NOT in the later versions of DirectX, for whatever Microsoft reason (perpetual update / spend money company)...

That's a strange one - I went into JSGME to disable that mod and there was no mods at all showing.

I have deleted the intro video.

Although this install was from Steam and I converted it, I'm actually waiting on a DVD version which is due any day. So I'm going to uninstall this attempt and clean up. Then I'll re-install from the disc, paying attention to installing the correct DirectX (how did I miss that?!). From memory, I think the DVD has the correct DX on it for installation too?

Thanks to both of you for replying. I'll re-visit those posts once I get the DVD.

EDIT: Oh! I tried another 2 older nvidia drivers too. I've kept them as they may come in useful.

OK, I'm good now.

Seeing as I was idle today I had another go at installing.

I uninstalled and cleaned up. And tried again, with particular attention to instructions. I just had the same result as before.

Uninstalled and cleaned up again. I rolled back Windows to before the Creator Update. This time, after installation I got a black screen with sound.

At this moment my DVD arrived in the mail.

Uninstalled and cleaned up again! Still black screen with sound.

This resolved the issue.

Maybe this would have worked with the steam install and/or without rolling back the Creators Update - I don't know. For the moment I have a working installation after many many hours of trying, so I'm leaving it alone. If it breaks in future I'll experiment more, now I know how to ultimately get it working.

I'm currently on 388.43 with nvidia. The same results were noted with 387.92.

I hope posting my experience helps someone.
