What I did:

First I have chosen a MegaModpack that is as close as possible to my likings.
I chose The Wolves of Steel (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=210703) by vdr1981 (Vecko).
He managed to merge many awesome mods together to a stunning MegaModpack.
Then I started to add mods I missed in The Wolves of Steel and changed the default settings of The Wolves of Steel.
For this I took care to only add sound files and texture files so no config gets exchanged or overwritten.
Sadly for some settings it was not possible to avoid exchanging config files. In this case I took the original files from The Wolves of Steel and edited them.
This way I ensured that the stability of The Wolves of Steel will stay the same.


The mods I added:

- Monochrome Pictures for Loading Screens - taken from Schleichfahrt Modpack (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1861119&postcount=812)
- DynEnv v2.9 - 3.a Enhanced Visibility (medium) (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=202520) - for a better visibility under water
- Naights Submaine Textures v1.2 (PUV) (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=171658) - I do not like the red textures in SteelViking's Interior, I like it dirty and dark
- MightyFine Crew Mod 1.2.1 Alternate heads with beards (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=163591)
- Mixture of DBSM (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=163390) and SDBSM (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=164552) - The best of both "Das Boot Sound Mod"
- MadMax SubDiesel (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=185665)
- Rongels Lifeboats (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=183381) - No way playing without that
- Critical Hits Torpedo (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=163930)
- Critical Hits Deck gun (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=163930)
- Pascal-VIIC-correct periscope in tube (http://www.gamefront.com/files/24336776/SH5_Pascal_VIIC_correct_periscope_in_tube_zip)
- sobers NO ship bow wave mod SH5 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=4454)

The WoS files I edited:

- Officer Command „Identify Target“ activated (Page layout.ini)
- Damaging of KDB Hydrophon at 120m changed to ca. 190m (Zones.cfg)
- Adjusted wave type to wind speed (SeaParameters.cfg)

The settings I did in TDW Generic Patcher: (Snapshot)

- Removed independent engine control - it was bugged and useless
- Removed coercion of dud torpedoes - I hate dud torpedos even if it is realistic
- Added automatically switch to battery recharge mode when surfaced - Every time I surfaced I forgot to switch it on
- Reduced maximum wind speed - Sobers Smoke screen looked horrible with high wind speed
- Added colors to the MapTools - for better visibility

The settings I did in OptionsFileEditorViewer:

- Minimum Dails for all TDCs - I did'n need more dails
- Activated automatically switch to battery recharge mode when surfaced - additionally to the setting in the Patcher
- Removed time delay and teleport for CrashDive - I first thought CrashDive is bugged
- Added TAI Map, resized it and did some settings - This was my main isue with WoS
- Enabled graphical Tools for NavMap and did some settings - looking awesome
- Added the Officers Icon in TDC and activated the option to turn off TDC - Now you can use the 1-2-3 alignment
- Locked the Officers Icons on the bottom of the screen. - I did not like the scrolling because it was the only GUI part scrolling

Optional german patch:

Sadly all the mods change the ingame-texts to english.
If you are a german dude like me you do like to have german texts in the game.
Raven Corax did a very good job to translate all the files back to german.

If i have already installed "Wolves of steel" ,can i just install ur files (just the addons) , or do i have to install "Wolves of steel" from your download?

If you have WoS installed then you just need my "Dragons WoS Addon" folder.
I did not change anything on the "The Wolves of Steel" folders, they are like the original one. I just want to provide a full package so you don't need to search for several parts.
But you have to load the snapshot for TDW Generic Patcher and check the settings in the OptionsFileEditorViewer (I edited the TheDarkWraithUserOptions.py) after you installed my Addon.

If i can make a sugestion , u should put a second download link only with your Wolves of Steel Addon.I think there are others like me that have already installed Wolves of Steel.

It's always the best to start from scratch and reinstall SH5 instead of useing a already moded installation. It's done in a few minutes and you can be sure that everything is fine.

I assume you have a legal copy of the game? Otherwise try this.

In order for your tonnage to be added to the mission objective you firstly have to be sinking ships in the patrol area indicated by the yellow icon (not the cross)

You can not go too far off the English coast or your tonnage will not count.

I would like to see the mark color green changed in red or something. The green mark for me is barely visible .

Hm.. it's always a looong way to the area and then you have to find a enemy.
Do you have a special campaign to test this or do you just shoot at the first ship in the starting port to see the time stamp 0000.00.00 in the log book?

Maybe it is easier to find out what file is dealing with this time stamp and what mod is using this file... but I'm not a moder/coder.

i think it might be ubisoft blocking it for all the other mods work, but as soon as you put the mega mod on it tosses you out of the game,i have tried it just now with all the mods not enabled just mega mod and same problem again disabled it and game works anybody any ideas how to get mega mod working , it was okay till ubisoft updated there u play, cant even play of line now:/\\!!

Yeah Dragon, you did it!!! Thank you for this Mod, which adds many changes so I dont have to do all the settings manually! Its great that SH5 becomes more and more a real cool subsim!

Hey Dragon,
I want to change the "mighty fine crew faces" to "alt with beards"...the modfolder contains 4 subfolders: Menu, Scripts, Sound and Submarine. Which folder can I copy and overwrite to change only the faces and nothing else?

Well I put the "MFCM alt w beards" between the WoS-Mod and your Adon so that if the MFCM changes something for crashdive-behaviour your Mod will overwrite it...Now I have the faces with beards and everything runs fine...no CTD's...Only the well known problem that the coningtower-crew moves in too late when I order crash-dive...But as far as I read it has something to do with the order in the crash-dive-script...

I disabled it because Sobers Smokescreen was stretched as far as the eyes can look. This looked really unnatural.
On the other side I like to have massive waves when it is stormy.

What is the SeaParameters.cfg doing?

Well as it is there are 4 seatypes defined in seaparameters.cfg:

[SeaType 0]
WindSpeed=0.000000
...
[SeaType 1]
WindSpeed=10.00000
...
[SeaType 2]
WindSpeed=30.000000
...
[SeaType 3]
WindSpeed=60.000000
...

With the patch disabled wind speeds over 15 m/s won't appear in game, so if i understand this right the biggest waves you can encounter will be between seatype 1 and 2 in size. If you edit & divide the above windspeed parameters by 4 you will get heavy seas during storms again:

...
[SeaType 1]
WindSpeed=2.50000
...
[SeaType 2]
WindSpeed=7.500000
...
[SeaType 3]

Q? on WOS 1.02/1.02 patch5, I've got it loaded and working now, started off in Poland, mission intercept and report task force.

Get to the area 2 merchants and 2 Polish destroyers, to cut a long story short, the 2 destroyers are like utter man'd up, I TCx to the area and when the 2 were called out and appeared on my map I went down to TCx1. I measured the distance and it was 16km, they were turning and heading at speed to me. The 2 merchants I to within 1500m of them and popped my PS just, 10 secs and the 2 DD who were at least 6000m away where shelling me and hit me about 3 times and that was that ..

I had saved the game before that encounter and started again, this time I ran time on and the 2 merchants sailed away the 1 of the 2 DD were pinging for me .. the little orange circle mid DD map icon was that size when I was at 0, but putting it to 1 seen that orange listening range open up to a really bit area so I stopped again. Again I ran time on and when thought the were a safe distance away I came up to PS depth and had a look, they were about 6500m away. I decided to see what kind of look area they had "Grey Circle" round the DDs icon, I popped up to decks away and the grey circle got bigger and bigger, I just had enough time to measure from the DD icon out to the edge of this Grey circle around it .. it went out to 10km.


I played Grey Wolfs mod years ago, and didn't see DD this powerful until after the happy times and even then I don't think the lookouts were that powerful on them ...

Is this the way they are supposed to be in this mod ?

Hi walsh.

I did not change the AI of the DDs. Its the same as in TheWolvesOfSteel.
As I know the AI of the DDs is always the same, it doesnt matter what time line you are in.
Sadly this is the way the game is done.

Thanks for the reply , I've not tried your add on yet, it was just I wasn't getting any replies elsewhere.

I just feel from the original game to grey wolves, the early days and what would be in these 2 games/mod was a bedding in period from 1939 up to 1941 where though you couldn't take escape from hunting DDa for granted, but at least you had more than a very good chance against them ... but WOS 1.02 and 1.02 patch 5 seems to have set the DD at 1944/5 levels and theirs little you can do. Even putting the engines from silent to 1 has the listening area of the DD up to a massive level.

There should have been a built in progression of ability with the AI as with the progression of sonar on DD in the war instead of kicking off day 1 of the war with these ubber Polish DD that even the smallest noise has them locked on.

Nice mod, and thank you.

There is his one sound file however that plays whenever the boat dips under for even a split second. It is a sound from Das boot, and sounds like wispering and footsteps. It is extremely repetitive, and it can get very nerve wracking. It seems to be an Og file for the navigator as I cannot find it in the wav files. I am unable to play ogg files on my machine right now. If you could tell me which one it is that plays at these moments (it also plays when the boat is in shallow waters) that would be so awesome. It is an emersion killer for me.

I know what you mean. It seems like that this sound is exchanging the "we are in shallow water" sound which would be much more annoying.

I actually removed the entire navigator speech, and the sound is still there. so it is not the navigator. I will try to find which speech folder it is. Unless somebody else knows what it is.

I found it. It is in genderal sounds and the file is called of all things. "HUD_Warning_expired" Have no idea what it actually is for, but I changed the name now to test.

Still trying to sort out the no progress on the tonnage bar bug. While doing this I found that even with a target 1000 meters away from my boat a manned deck gun.....will not fire. I have the binocular on the target, press space and nothing. Not sure what is going on here, this behavior did start after installing the add on.

Hi Dragon......thanks for the quick reply.

Liking your mod so far.....much better with the Das Boot sounds :up:

That interior mod does over write files but just the internal textures I think.....nothing to do with the way the game runs as far as I am aware. Just wasn't sure if it was compatible with Naight's interior mod on your list.

Another quick question.......how do I enable real navigation?

I'm using this great mod pack and have been enjoying a very stable game with it, but I had my first CTD tonight.

In the Western Approaches in bad weather.....thunderstorm......and was submerged. I kept getting a contact report from the sonar guy but when I listened I could hear nothing. Remembering I read a post here on the forums about something similar "ghost convoy's" I listened a little closer and there she blows!..... whale song, very cool touch. Anyway I sat here listening to it way off in the distance just audible above the background noise, and bang! CTD. I didn't select anything or press anything, wasn't even turning the hydrophone wheel at the time.

So I thought I would post here in case anyone else has had a similar issue.

Hey guys,
started playing sh5 WoS with Dragons Addon after a longer break...I still have the problem that the crew on the coningtower moves inside too slow while crashdiving (using the key or the button doesnt matter)...is there a solution for this bug...it happens when Im watching the crashdive with the free camera...the time delay is set at 1 like in dragons addon...

no there is no solution... just a workarround.
In wos there is a time delay between pressing the button and diving.
I removed that delay.

It's not. It only works with WoS 1.02. Though some mods that Dragon added were incorporated into WoS 1.03.

So what I did is to activate Dragons Addon after WoS without using the generic patcher, because WoS 1.03 comes with a patcher version .168...So I use the Addon with the generic patcher from WoS. As far as I can see it works fine, but I wonder if its the right way :hmmm:

I installed TWoS and Dragons Addon like said in the readme, but somehow my HUD do not work correctly and don´t show the actual speed and depth:

In the OptionsFileEditorViewer, what options did you use to:

Re-add the TAI map, and re-add the ability to use the 1-2-3 alignment system?

And in the GenericPatcher, what option did you change to change the colours of the markings and etc on the map to what they were on stock SH5?

Why don't you use TWoS 1.05 ? You can clearly see that Dragon addon is severely old, outdated and not supported anymore by it's developer...:hmm2:
To be honest, this thread only causes confusion...

See what happens with your machine, mate. My PC has lower specifications than yours, and I can run TWoS 1.05 with Patch 12 flawessly. I obtain 60 FPS in open seas, and 40-45 in ports and traffic. I fix 35 FPS with antilag for better flow of images.

Recommended: don´t use the Nvidia control panel or Inspector for better graphics. The in-game controls are sufficient and you will obtain excellent images.

vdr1981's PC has much lower specifications than yours, so if the latest version of TWoS runs smoothtly for him, it should for you as well. No sarcasm meant :03:.

Try following sober's suggestion. If it is still not enough, be aware that 3D sound propagation and antialiasing are other PC resource killers :)

I particularly liked this mod for him to have custom sounds of Das Boot Movie. My installation usually followed as mandated by the author of the mod Dragon81 more in the TDC RAOFB Continual caught, does not rotate and the periscope does not move. I have weird things to this mod and I would love to resolve this issue that caught RAOFB. I really leave this Mod ??

Particularmente eu gostei desse mod por ele ter sons personalizados do Das Boot Filme. Minha instalação seguiu normalmente como manda o autor do mod Dragon81 mais no TDC o RAOFB continual travado, não gira e o periscópio não se desloca. Não tenho problemas de lentidão neste mod e gostaria muito de resolver essa que questão do RAOFB travado. Devo realmente abandonar este Mod??

Ship identification in TWOS can be found in the additional compatible mods download.

TWOS v1.06 Compatible Additional Mods Endorsed By vdr1981 (https://www.mediafire.com/folder/6xdh6g4691e3o/TWoS_2.0_Compatible_Aditional_Mods_and_Addons)

After running the mod installer look for the TWOS UI cmd_Auto Ship Recognition.

The Dragon's addon is no longer compatible with later TWOS versions.

Thank you for warm welcome and quick answer!

You see, the point is that my eyes are not exemplary ones, so I expect the great problems with ship ID, especially during night time. I even had to switch to external view, "fly" to ship, open the book and run identification process. :).
So this mod will be very helpful for me.
