Sorry I'm not sure if this should go here...

Anyhow, I wondered if its possible to create- while not exactly a historically accurate simpit to scale, at least things like the torpedo launch box or even perhaps a small hooked in monitor in a periscope shaped holding, or torpedo settings box?

Little add on things like that, I know a friend who could make the housings accurately but would a lot of coding need done?

I know to launch a torpedo its just the enter key at least.

Thanks.

That would be very cool. I've seen different Flight Sim "SimPits" and I've even seen a company that makes MechWarrior cockpits.

Submarine stuff..... That has to involve a crazy amount of coding and stuff. I like the idea...but unless you have a programmer, a good amount of time, some money, and you are willing to take on a big work load.....I don't see it happening.

And, here's another thing to consider...

I'm not sure if modifying the game in a way you might need to use all your devices will even be legal. There's that Software Act thingy that prevents some certain things. I'm not well versed in Piracy/Modification Laws.

I'd go do some research if I was you. :timeout:

Very cool idea though! I discovered "Simpits" a few months back when somebody brought up the idea of a USB Whiz Wheel for SH3. I spent a while on different flight cockpit sites looking at costs and requirements. It's no small project if you want a decent one.

For my flight sims? I usually lay down leaning up against something with speakers behind my head. One time, I was incredibly bored at home....So I built a Simpit out of blankets and pillows...put on some Turtle Beach headphones and turned them all the way up...then.....I had some fun with IL-2

(You are never too old for a pillow fort)

What's a simpit?

The coding (not even sure it would require any yet) wouldn't edit any of Silent Hunters.

As I say the torpedo launch key is enter, so there would be an equivalent keyboard part in the red launch button in the housing.

To click torpedo 1 - 2 - 3 and so on, requires a click of the mouse (or is there a keyboard shortcut, i've not checked yet) but at the same time the clicking of the mouse activates code in Silent Hunter that selects it, it's all about macroing a shortcut on top, but not changing anything to do with SH.

This is my understanding anyway, I could be wrong.

I see what you are saying here. Just take a keyboard and set it up differently.

I thought you were going to make submarine parts and map them into the game.

That's right, just spoke to my friend about it today too.

Would anyone be interested in something like this?

If we can figure out a macro for selecting which torpedo in particular you want to fire, apposed to just toggling through from one to the next (1 > 2 > 3 > 4 etc) then we will definitely have a go at the torpedo launch box first.

Should be easy to have them light up too.

I assume the TM version is more faithful?

-edit- just had a thought though, if there's problems with the macro, can at the very least have the lights toggle through also instead.

Sounds like a great idea. I'd be interested in seeing something like this done.

It would be awesome.

Righto, well is the Trigger Maru version the more authentic?

Would there be a problem copying their box in physical form?

I only really want to try and make it authentic, so if we were striving for what it actually looked like then I guess that's what everyone's been doing anyway.

From what i've seen the launch stations for torpedos are way bigger, I suspect (as many of you will already know) Silent Hunter just created a mock up?

Silent Hunter created their own little 3D control room. I don't know how authentic they are....

Trigger Maru is a gameplay mod. Real Fleet Boat makes it historically accurate by the detail...but Trigger Maru ramps up the A.I. to give it an authentic feel.

RFB looked good...but I wanted to "feel" the combat....So I chose TMO and RSRD Campaign Mod.

I'd visit a fleet boat if you could and get some dimensions and details for your little project. If not, I'm sure there are tons of pictures online for you.
