Within the U-boot sensors GR2 there is a Searchlight that looks like it could be an upgrade, and there is also files relating to it in the games files, It would be cool to have a searchlight when attacking merchants that are un-armed, to help with identification.
Also within the GR2 is this strange T shaped Apparatus.
I'm not sure what it does or what it is.
I would really like to have a searchlight on my U-boat :D

It would be great at night entering a harbor . Only if it was spottable by the enemy though .

Indeed, it made you as visible as in broad daylight, maybe even more to enemies.
And If it an AI controller option so it could track aircraft, but that's asking a bit much, I would be more that happy to have a Player controllable searchlight.

Player controled is the only way to go. If not.... Yer dead meat.

It would also help when attacking un-armed merchants, at night, and spotting aircraft, this would be a very fun mod, had it existed.:D

:hmmm: To more accurately denote your location for they?

It was only a Suggestion, that I didn't think too much the aircraft part.

But what if you used it as a reply to ship recognition signals(concept in itself to id other ships in the game),or as a reply to those dam Tommie's Leigh lights? Spotlight in their face might throw their aim off a bit. :hmmm:

Thank you for your response, we need more posts to get this thread noticed, and we might end up getting ourselves a searchlight :D

The stuff is already in the game, why not use it? If you could set it up to be movable like your guns are, it would be great to check ships and lifeboats at night. I always play the game where I check the lifeboats if possible. Or to be able to use it as an Aldis lamp. You already have the AI mods for subs, so why not a little ship to ship talk? I think a little back and forth blinking (if you are already getting messages from other subs convert a few to morse code) would really set off a wolfpack attack. :|\\

In the GR2, there is nothing connecting to it, so I don't think it was finished by the Devs.:shifty:
But I'm new the Goblin editor, so I am not sure if anything else i connected to it.
I only merged the .SIM to it, if there is more, please tell me.

There are a bunch of people playing with the program editors. Just check over the posts and see who is heading that direction. They would have a way better idea on what to do. Me, I just get a bigger hammer.

As spydar said, it would be cool if you could use it to throw off the enemies aim when they are firing at you.:hmm2:

Exactly. It's an old naval dictum that a searchlight might light up your target, but now everyone else knows exactly where you are. Battleships use them to spot destroyers, destroyers use them to spot PT boats, but not the other way around. An airplane is a special case. It's very fast and usually coming right at a u-boat. you can shoot at it or dive, but shining your own light at it is a waste of time.

U-boats didn't have permanent searchlights. They carried portable units, mostly signal lamps.

:hmmm: But still, just to have one for GP would be a nice addition. We all know we got shorted big time by the dev's. So if it is in there, setting it up as an option or mod would be a great little add-on. :yeah:

It would also be nice to use it in addition of the Navigation lights, if they existed.

And using it to spot lifeboats would be a nice aesthetic feature.

Here is a picture of it in the GR2.

It seems of low detail, the Developers probably axed it before they created code for it.

I was digging in the files again, but I cannot seem to find anything relating to the U-Boat searchlight, but it might be possible to mod the regular searchlights beam to fit to it, but making it controllable might be difficult.

impossible is the word you're looking for unless you are good with assembly and have lots of time to kill.
