I just stumbled across the following info which could be of serious interest to any WinXP users in regard to the memory allocation switch:
Service Pack 3 is required to utilise it, and that IF YOU USE AN AMD PROCESSOR IT MAY CAUSE YOUR SYSTEM TO FAIL TO BOOT UNLESS A HOTFIX IS INSTALLED FIRST
See http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/windows-xp-sp3-amd-stop-0x0000007E.html for details.
cheers,

Ed, just to be clear on this... It's for AMD processors only?

Hi
I am running Win7 32bit 3.5GB ram GTX 560 , I am still thinking on buying SH5.
I did read the SH5 Mod Guide for Beginners and I did 3GB switch yesterday but then today I ran across sites that were in detail
about " Patch Pae" and sites on the windows 7 32bit 4GB Patch. Here is the link on the 4GB limit patch wtih pros and cons.
http://www.howorks.com/2011/02/24/ho...-memory-limit/ (http://www.howorks.com/2011/02/24/how-to-remove-windows-7-32bit-4gb-memory-limit/)

Also I found this patch called "PatchPae" here is a short video I found on youtube.

Aslo a MUST READ LINK that is over my head maybe somone can check it out here it is.

So I know that I cannot have all of them so I am stuck on which method to use. 3gb switch is a small cmd method.
But the 4GB patch has pros and cons.
the PatchPae sounds good cuz it is a patch and also a few cmd types to make but I dont know which to use.

Hi their , You mods creators should not worry about putting our computers through some heavier duty graphics work. Anyone worth their salt will have gotten themselves fitted with the most cutting edge computer. I have upgraded to an Intel i7 with 8 core, 64bit Windows 7, 16Gb onboard memory plus 24Gb RAM installed. Therefore adding up to an incredible insane total of 40Gb of RAM. GTX560 graphics. My computer is not yet being pushed by anything that I have thrown at it. I am not new to subsim but am using a new ID "Kringelborn". I started out some years ago with SilentHunter-2 on my original computer. I really enjoyed SH-2. Then I bought a new computer in 2005 and started using SilentHunter-3. In 11 march 2011 it broke down so to replace it I got my most newest computer just before christmas 2011 ready for working in 2012 onwards and now run SilentHunter-5 on it. The thing about my newest computer is that its high specifications are simply not available on the high street. So I acquired the parts separately from DABS.COM and put it together myself. :arrgh!:

Glad you got such an awesome rig, but sadly, not everyone can afford it. :-?

Be that as it may, welcome to Subsim! :sunny:

I also started with SH-2 and loved it,, less graphics but really good sim. I hope I will enjoy SH5 when I get it after moding. The explosions look fake or arcadey. Here is a youtube clip of nice graphics and realistic explosions at the end of the clip.

I moded SH-3 with M.E.P.v3 also regular cloths, real sounds, two german flags, all the different cammo or regular skins and others I cannot remember.
SH-2 was realistic with sailing, current, ect. Its interesting to study uboat tactics manuals and use them on a good sim, but I think in the future it will be less of a sim and more of a arcade so all the real tactics wont work.
I need to get a new pc as well but I do have mine running smooth with what I got.

I am still lost on which to use,, 4GB patch // PatchPae // 3GB switch //
Yesterday I did the 3gb switch method
