Unfortunately the replies from August and Aktung don't appear to be viewable but the bomb you enquire about (and without going into deeper research on the actual aircraft) is either a Paveway II or a Paveway IV. The RAF use and have used both but taking the year of the aircraft (2003) into consideration my guess would be Paveway II.

Is it okay not to like something? I like the paint scheme on 'Sandman' better than Miss Jolly Roger and the one before it 'Blackburn' was even more off color key.
Jimbuna

Yeah, Corgi have always had historical issues with their colour schemes. The Jaguars for example, were released almost thirteen years apart and the same issues exist today with various other recent releases.

Those tarmac/concrete bases add a nice touch.. great collection.
:hmmm: I have just built a cabinet with glass front and shelves into a wall... i'm tempted .. :hmmm:
The Alouette would make a nice model, but it would be quite difficult to model those fine details and mesh 'birdcage' rear..
OT regarding the Alouette and military help for civilian support this reminds me of L16 supporting civilians with food and fuel, on the island of Juist 1916 to 1917, when it was surrounded by ice.

It's one of my favorite planes along with the F-4 Phantom jets too even though they smoked a lot in Vietnam giving their positions away for ground gunners.
How about models with all of the extra's they can carry on display like this one:

Have a question about the lastest model you are showing us Jim
In the beginning I couldn't get a grip of where I had seen such a plane like this English Electric Lightning model.
Now I have It was the MIG 21-The nose looks a lot like they where a copy of each other- Who was first with this idea of an intake in the nose ?

The first maybe the english Gloster E.28/39?
Or maybe the Messerschmitt P.1101, though i think this was later.

Regarding a British Army Alouette II: The XN132 had a plain tail girder without that radar/radio (???) thingy on. Seems there are a few on Ebay (no decals but they can be made) but they all have pig ugly fat girders. Guess 1/72 is a bit small for proper girders. DIY tail and decals seems to be the thing for such a project. Some inspiration here perhaps? http://www.arcair.com/Gal14/13201-13300/gal13235-Alouette-Sousa/00.shtm

Looking at your model plane collection brings the thought to mind that almost all planes are built to be obsolete, except for the B-52 that just keeps on serving the USAF with the first flight being 15 April 1952 and of course the Tupolev Tu-95 with the first flight being 12 November 1952
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tupolev_Tu-95
(Few would have believed it would still be on the front-line nearly 60 years later, serving as a strategic bomber, maritime patrol aircraft – and the world’s noisiest spy plane.)
Anyway back to your beautiful collection, a collection you can surely be proud of ... but still a thought is a thought and I had to add mine that almost all planes are built to become obsolete. :yep:

Yes, MIG 15 indeed was equipped with copied Rolls-Royce Nene engine. British were quite friendly to their archenemy, by giving soviets such advanced technology. Had they not give that engine to russians, the formidable MIG 15 would have been grounded for a long time and maybe north Korea where they fought succesfully never had become reality.:hmmm:

An english friend (Andrew Brodie) who recently died, unfortunately, is said to have brought one Lightning over to the US for restoration.
He said that with a private pilot licence you are allowed to fly the Lightning only up to Mach 1 in Europe, which would make no sense with this bird. They seem to be less prohibitive in the US.. :D
It is an entirely voluntary project with a lot of supporters, and i heard it is finished to almost 90 percent now.

The Lightning was developed to intercept increasingly capable bomber aircraft (Tupolev Tu-16, Tupolev Tu-22, Tupolev Tu-95), and thus has exceptional rate of climb, ceiling, and speed. This performance made the Lightning a "fuel-critical" aircraft, meaning that its missions were dictated to a high degree by its limited range, hence the overwing tanks for extending said range.

Your going to need a full scale (to match the planes that is) aircraft carrier display case someday ... make it low enough that you can cover the top with removable glass and use it for a desk at the same time to save space.
Now just talk your wife into it while on a shopping trip or something :yep:

Do they have a larger model than this one Jim?
http://www.newsbiscuit.com/2014/07/06/airfix-criticised-for-not-including-any-aircraft-with-scale-model-of-hms-queen-elizabeth/
http://www.newsbiscuit.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/350-hmsqe.jpg
Upset parents have been calling for a boycott of Airfix after their new 1:350 scale, self-assembly model of the Royal Navy’s HMS Queen Elizabeth was launched without any tiny replica aircraft in the box.
‘It’s very detailed and they seem to have spent a great deal of time getting everything just right, from the chain guns on the back to the lifts on the side which go up and down, which we’re very impressed with, I must say. But it’s an aircraft carrier,’ said one angry parent, ‘d’er… planes? Helloooo!’
A spokesman for the model maker said they hadn’t actually overlooked the demand for aircraft, but had had a bit of trouble deciding which to use. ‘Should it be the ones which you flick along the deck and hope they fly off the end, or would it be best to adapt them to fit a little spring mechanism which allowed for vertical take off and landing? That was the dilemma,’ he said. ‘In the end we decided on both, but because that’s all getting quite complicated our American suppliers say they won’t be ready until 2020.’
I did find a 1:44th size, but it is for test tanks only:
https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/-/media/royal-navy-responsive/images/news/ships/queen-elizabeth/130315-navys-new-carrier-practises-crucial-refuelling-using-scale-models/01372013_mars_cvf_ras.jpg?mh=447&mw=980&thn=0&hash=94982730A7D5AB67093F7824EB70B6BA9B19B418
Two 1:44 scale models – the 37,000-tonne 200m-long (659ft) tanker has been reduced to 4.5m (15ft) in length, while the 65,000-tonne HMS Queen Elizabeth has been shrunk from 284m (931ft) in length to 6.45m (21ft) – were built and taken to the enormous ‘ocean basin’ test tank, owned by defence research firm QinetiQ.

I've not seen anything bigger and in all honesty I wasn't aware the 1/350 had been released but I have just found this and notice there are aircraft in the pictures:
https://www.airfix.com/us-en/news/airfix-unveil-specially-commissioned-queen-elizabeth-aircraft-carrier-model
Mr Quatro
03-06-18, 01:52 PM
that information was 3 1/2 years ago ... so I'm glad they came out with planes for it finally.
Now about that 1:44th size desk at only 6.45m (21ft) long in glass or plexiglass ... you got what it takes to build one, especially with a bridge building son-in-law and lots of paint and pictures and time on your hands. Take a year and build a model desk to display your other model planes, except they probably aren't 1:44th size though, uh?
I still think it would make a great hobby ... build two at the same time and sell one to pay for the first one.
Details would take most of the time ... do a good job and make some money too :yep:

^ Awesome. :Kaleun_Thumbs_Up: I always thought the Avro Vulcan was ahead of it's time. Then again, so were the Horton brothers from Germany who proved the feasibility of the flying wing and whose work inspired the construction of the Vulcan and B-2. In service from 1956 until 1984, it flew without benefit of fly by wire systems and modern computers. Incredible piece of engineering.

First F-35B in the collection and I'm not overly impressed with the panel lines etc. so it could be the last.

I was always a fan of the Bae Hawk. It has been utilized as an advanced trainer T-45 Goshawk for the U.S Navy enjoying an excellent reputation.

Yep, love the Hawk. Below is a picture of a group of mine but sadly, I've yet to take a picture of them all together.

Jim,
I've been somewhat of a lurker in this thread for years now. I was wondering if you might be able to point me towards a source of some nicer Die-Cast aircraft. It seems there's so many different places that sell them. I'm not sure what to look for.
But, I'm on the eve of my military pilot selection board (less than three weeks :yeah:) and if I get selected I'm going to get myself a nice model of a couple of my favorite aircraft for my shelf.
Nothing too big, but detailed would be nice. I'm not sure if you're able to help out much, but if anybody has any recommendations of where to start looking that would be much appreciated.
Cheers!

Its a 1/18th scale 2017 Porsche 911 GT3 in Lava Orange, or as I call it Jagermeister Orange from AutoArt. :yeah:
Note that this example is made from diecast and not resin. If its supposed to open and close, it mostly does. Mine arrived with some small hassles (its from AutoArt) which I was able to deal with. The door for the gas cap had way too much paint which required some careful re-scribing, polishing, and buffing. I also added some detail to the door by thinning down some dark brown paint and flowing it into the gas door panel lines. The wheels were sold as "silver" but are actually more like a primer gray (this would be correct for a real car equipped with ceramic brake pads but I don't like ceramic brakes).
Having a choice for the wheels turned into a bit of a headache (chrome, chrome and gold, gun metal, steel, what???) and after a couple of days I settled on painting the wheels in steel with a slightly brite-er aluminium inner cap while keeping the black hub. Its subtle and it looks good.
The AutoArt diecast (probably the same for Minichamps) came with a Rube Goldberg-esque spring and plunger to open the boot in front. This was quickly dealt with after removing all of the screws and separating the floor pan from the body. The plunger went back into the box and now I can just slide a toothpick or small plastic dowel into the plunger's hole if I want to open the boot. BTW, door and panel lines on this 'cast are VERY tight and look correct for this scale. Where the engine cover meets the rear panels, it can look slightly "gappy" but this is correct for the real car.
Since I already had everything un-assembled, I did some quick paint work in the engine compartment. :D Since opening the engine cover will only show you the factory installed "shelf", detail painting is limited to the bottom of the car. I left the actual engine alone and painted the exhaust in "titanium gold" followed up with dark brown panel liner. The exhaust tips were painted "NATO Black" to give a slightly "run in" look. Do some checking on YT and you'll find vids of the real car, factory exhaust, and "tuner" exhausts to give you ideas. With the engine deck cover, you could go crazy with some carbon fiber decals but note this model is a GT3 and not a GT3R or RS. Black plastic is what the factory uses.
Going crazy on the brake rotors and calipers is not a waste of time. A little effort in this area pays off due to the wheel design. I kept the calipers red and used a pin vise to drill into the holes in the rotors slightly, just enough to expose the black plastic of the part. The rotors now look more convincing without having to invest a lot of time.
The interior is mostly good as it is. Note again that this is a model of a GT3 and NOT a GT3R. If too much of everything looks about right, go for the GT3R model, instead. Steering wheel alignment is about as close as it gets with the wheels straight. One thing that's missing on the GT3 are lap and shoulder belts, not a deal breaker but I found an e-tail-er in Italy who sells shoulder belts, decals, and photo etch for 1/18th scale. :hmmm: Maybe black belts or red Sabelt belts are in the future along with a "CH" nationality logo for the rear deck and a printed licence plate and vanity frame? :)
Oh, if anyone's interested, I can post a tutorial on how to make modern licence plates in scale using a printer, photo-grade paper, clear shipping tape, and a basic graphics program.
:Kaleun_Salute:
About the paint, I really like this color and the photo makes it look too orange. The real color is slightly more pastel, kind of like somewhere between bright orange and "cremesickle" orange. Whatever it is, it just looks right on a 911. :D
Let's see.. The only other complaint was the rear wing, which pinged off while I was unscrewing the model from its shipping foam. No big deal, really. I wanted to polish and wax ( I actually use a high gloss detailing spray on my die cast cars unless the paint is screwy) the painted surfaces anyway. So, after getting the painted surfaces done, I cleaned off the old glue residue and used some small drops of "clear parts glue" (acrylic) to re-attach the wing.
I've found that acrylic glue works better than CA or epoxy. Its better to have the glue joint fail before the end plates or detail parts break off and acrylic glue is strong enough to survive 99% of handling accidents.
