Twas the day after the the Barakolypse,
all the subsimmers were stirring
for something different to fight about.
That ol McBee, up to no good,
created the annual football thread.
Tis that time again for a grand route.
Neal wears his Silver and Black
but has the "Texans" on his back.:o
Prediction; the Raiders will cause gout.
The vikes, hit the goodwill to find a QB
and that really pisses off Mr Mcbee
another year with a bop on the snout.
Then there's those damn cheezeheadz,
with their green and gold mullets.
But those wisconsin riots, they'll be 0-18, then out.
AVG's nemisis, those big bad Steelers
will probably dominate those old Ravens;
And AVG still says "That Roethesberger is no boy scout."
The dolphins eye the Fav-ray
but will rue the day
Brett flops around like a rainbow trout.
The lions...
nevermind
Bring on the season...

Dont forget the Panthers in Blue, Silver and Black.
After 2-14, they will get no slack,
A new HC, a new QB, but still starting a Pickle?
Still - as a fan we will never be fickle.
We have some talent that could make us a threat
What the record will be, I do not want to bet
TC shows some high draft picks are on the bubble,
But its all good because we will see the return of Double Trouble.
A word about the last original Cat,
When told to pack, his eye didn't bat.
He took it with class and wrote a thank you letter
To all the fans, John Kasey - there never was a better!:salute:

The Texans, as usual, promised much
The offseason brought defensive upgrades and such
I sit here with my fingers crossed,
Hoping John Joseph was worth the cost
And that we find a way to quit losing in the clutch

The Iggles still field Michael Vick.
It must be some sick kind of trick.
How that guy, the clown,
Is still working the town,
While instead, they gave Akers the kick.

I wish that I could,
Write a poem that was good.
About my favorite team,
The Saints of my dreams,
But I'm not really in the mood.

Preseason, week one done. Any thoughts? I watch part of the Seachicken game in a bar at Long beach, WA and missed all of the Viking game. (sounds like I didn't miss much)
I have an opportunity to see the vikes-seachickens game next week. The question is; do I want to pony up ~$300 buck to see the starters for 5 min?:dead: (game ticket, train ticket, hotel) would be fun though.:hmmm:

Going to M&T Stadium tomorrow. Preseason with KS City Chiefs.
Ochocinco is going to be a high maintenance pain in the arse for the Pats.
Well maybe or maybe not. But we've had problem children before. Either he'll get with the program or Belichick will have him warming the pine.
Meanwhile I must say they are looking scary good right now.
AVGWarhawk
08-19-11, 05:57 AM
I don't see Ochocinco getting with the program. The Pats don't play with showboaters. Any who changes their name to a different language to match his jersey number has a problem of being self glorifying. Besides, another player has the #80. I just don't see him making it through the season.

You had me at "Marine museum." That looks like some sort of classic boat. What is it?
AVGWarhawk
08-22-11, 10:14 AM
The Tennison was built in 1899. She was a working boat plying the waters of the Chesapeake looking for oysters. She was also a ferry for awhile.
I also learned about S-49 that was sunk at Solomon Island for use in practicing submarine rescue.
Following repairs, S-49 resumed operations off the New England coast, and in January 1927, moved south, with USS S-50, for exercises and tests off Key West, Florida, the Dry Tortugas, and in Tampa Bay. On 12 March, she returned to New London, whence she completed a run to Portsmouth and back before proceeding to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with S-50, for inactivation. Arriving on 31 March, she was decommissioned on 2 August and berthed with other reserve ships at League Island until struck from the Naval Vessel Register on 21 March 1931 in accordance with the London Naval Treaty. S-49 was sold to the Boston Iron and Metal Company of Baltimore, Maryland, on 25 May 1931. Reduced to a hulk by that company in 1936, but not scrapped, the hulk was apparently reacquired seven years later, "as equipment," for use in experimental work at the Naval Mine Warfare Proving Ground, Solomons, Maryland. Shortly after being towed to Solomons from Baltimore (where the Navy had reacquired the submarine), the former S-49 foundered off Point Patience in the Patuxent River on 16 December 1942 and sank in 102 feet of water at: Position: Latitude 38 Degrees 19' 53.2" North Longitude 76 Degrees 29' 17.2" West or, on a bearing of 318.5 Degrees True, distant 525 yards, from the southern tip of Point Patience. The S-boat has remained on the bottom at that position to the present day...and is visited, on occasion, by Navy and recreational divers. Courtesy of R. S. Rayfield, Jr. Major, USMC (Ret)

FIRST DOWN
All progress in a football game is measured in yards. The offensive team tries to get as much "yardage" as it can to try and move closer to the opponent's end zone. Each time the offense gets the ball, it has four downs, or chances, in which to gain 10 yards. If the offensive team successfully moves the ball 10 or more yards, it earns a first down, and another set of four downs. If the offense fails to gain 10 yards, it loses possession of the ball. The defense tries to prevent the offense not only from scoring, but also from gaining the 10 yards needed for a first down. If the offense reaches fourth down, it usually punts the ball (kicks it away). This forces the other team to begin its drive further down the field.
A 3rd and 5 means it is the team's 3rd attempt to advance the ball 10 yards. So far, they have advanced it 5 yards.

I like Ishockey too. :ping:

One thing is knowing the rules and how the game is played, an another thing is to understandt the psychological part of the game and the ordinary americans. No favorite team but it is fun to try to predict the outcome beforehand.
I like the Skins tonight. Romo is playing with cracked ribs, Witten is playing hurt, Austin is out injured. If Romo gets belted a couple of times he probably won''t last through the game.

Dallas (http://www.belmont.com/sports-news/monday-night-football-washington-vs-dallas-1007167/)
26th September 2011 in NFL Betting (http://www.belmont.com/sports-news/nfl-betting/)
Washington (+3.5) @ Dallas (-3.5); Total set at 45
This week’s MNF game features two historic rivals that really have no love for one another. Dallas and Washington have been playing in heated battles for years, so it is tough to see that tonight’s game will be any different. Washington has been a surprise story this year heading into this one at 2-0 and would love to really take an early upper hand in the NFC East division with a win here. Dallas is hoping that many of their banged up stars (Romo, Bryant, Jones) are able to go well enough to be solid contributors in this game and early information has them all ready for tonight.
Washington (+3.5) @ Dallas (-3.5); Total set at 45
I'm trying to figure out how to read that. It's quit different from our way of betting
Here's an example
Italy-USA(Rugby) 1 x 2
1.85 15.00 1.85
(if you bet 100 bucks and it's a draw you win 100x15=1500 cool cash)
you can also place a bet on the result and so on.
Markus
1.85 (javascript:openGame('/DTCF/games/ODDS/play.do#gameId=LNGN&subMenu=a&coupGameId=LNGN&coupRows=693523,257,LONGLIST,1,0',920,570);)
15.0 (javascript:openGame('/DTCF/games/ODDS/play.do#gameId=LNGN&subMenu=a&coupGameId=LNGN&coupRows=693523,257,LONGLIST,X,0',920,570);)

Washington favored by 3.5 points. So if you bet Washington they need to win by 3.6 or more because you need to cover the spread.
Bet on Dallas and if they lose by 3 you still win your bet.
The 45 it total points by both teams you can simply bet over\under that number.

09-28-11, 03:21 PM
I'm just going to take a wild guess here that Dallas will defeat Washington even though they try to give it away in the first half, but they will win in the end with a defenseive move on Grossman (who is no stranger to dumb plays) that results in a fumbel making it impossible to win or tie in the wanning moments of the monday night game.
It doesn't make any difference that this is two days later however. :salute:

It happens rarely, sometimes strategically it is beneficial, like to force a team to score a touchdown (6pts) rather than a field goal (3pts). Other times it's done to stick it up another teams rectum. Other times it can put your team ahead with a very little time left in the game.
All a 2 point conversion is, is a play from 2 yards out (6 feet, slightly less than 2 meters)
The only reason it is hard is because the defense knows what you are doing and plays you accordingly.
Hard to explain so it makes sense to someone who don't see it alot.

If, after scoring a touchdown you are behind by 5 it would be a time it might be wise to go for 2.
If you don't make it you need a TD to win. If you DO make it you are only behind by 3.....and a field goal can then tie the game for you.
Just kicking the extra point in that situation accomplishes nothing because you still trail by 4, so you still need a TD to win.

True
If I was a coach and my team was 4 point behind ,after our touchdown and only a few minutes remain of the last quarter...why not, my team have nothing to loose.

I disagree. Kick the extra point and pull to within 3. A field goal then ties the score. A field goal is MUCH easier to get than a TD.
If you don't get the 2 point (likely) you would need a TD or you lose.

Net Pts - Simply the difference between the above two
Road - The team's record while playing games on the road, away from their home stadium
conf - The team's record while playing games against other teams in their conference
Non-conf - The team's record while playing games against other teams NOT in their conference

No, it's Reid. Has been Reid for a long time. He's had problems with McNabb. Problems with Vick. Problems with Kolb. Problems with Owens. Problems with Jim Johnson. Problems with Morninweg. And, as they say, if the problem is with everyone then the problem is probably not with everyone.

Sorry. Your right. I was responding to an earlier post. (As with the Hank Williams thing at least) I like Hank ;P
The Eagle players kinda brought in on themselves with the dream team stuff . Being a New York Yankee fan I know about the best team money can buy, and know that said team can be beat by the Anaheim Angels or the Tampa Bay devil Rays...Even the Detroit Tigers.
I have to disagree on Reid. He has kept you competitive every year. He made the best with what he was given, year in and year out, and made a good show of it.
Look at my beloved 49ers if you want to see a franchise that don't care. Until they got Harbaugh it was pandemonium (Like 2 monkeys screwing a football) Although I agree on Mcnabb. He was the greatest QB Philly has seen.

The frustrating thing is that they're a good team, but never a great team. They have lots of great players. Andre Johnson, Owen Daniels, Arian Foster and Mario Williams are some of the best in the league, but they just seem to have a mental block. I usually hate Dan Dierdorf, but he said something I totally agree with today: "If NFL games lasted 45 minutes, the Texans would be undefeated." It's so true. And I don't know if it's coaching or what, but these guys just seem to collapse under pressure and give up the big plays in the 4th quarter.

Ah well. I'll drink to that.
Texans have nothing to be ashamed about with yesterdays performance. Our defense is one of the best in the league. Let's face it, when the word "physical" is looked up in the dictionary it states, "See Raven's Defense." Furthermore, the Texans offense is very good. Our defense was having trouble standing them up off the line. I think one of the best receivers on the Texans team was not playing yesterday. It was a damn battle from start to finish. We had two chances to score 7 but settled for 2. This means the Texans defense is damn good. With that said, the Ravens since the Super Bowl have been a good team. This year, as Flacco comes into his own and a few more receiving threats, is a great team. Texans are certainly a team to watch this year and the upcoming seasons. :yep:

This man is just unreal.
I never thought anyone would be able to overcome the greats. Steve Young, Troy Aikman, Joe Montana, Bart Starr, Roger Staubach etc...
But Tom Brady is a monster. I read a stat saying they never won until he showed up..Forget Bill Bellichek.. It's all about Brady..
Love the team or hate the team, just enjoy every throw the man makes. You are looking at historical greatness.
I think my niners play them this year...Way to ruin a good season for us:D

I understand your thinking, but it should be noted they didn't let Brees continue his NFL record streak of 350+ passing yard games, pulling him 25 yards short of 350. By not letting him get another such game when he easily could have shows some class.

\hat Sunday night game was a laugher. I was in a shovel and only had the radio.
I heard them take Brees out so not to seem as if they are "pouring it on" (which is bad NFL etiquette)
Then first pass the Colts threw the next drive was picked off and ran back for a Touchdown...
Plus the announcers were bagging the colts so bad, hilarous.
I been on the bad end of blowouts before, and it is rage inducing for fans. Peyton is still better than his brother... But not nearly as lucky.

From Yahoo:
The creator of Tebowing did say that Tebowing was (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Introducing-Tebowing-It-8217-s-like-planking-?urn=nfl-wp10549) "for people of all types." In the truest spirit of brotherhood, that must includes even players who sack Tim Tebow (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/24000/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/24000/news).
After Detroit Lions (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/det/) linebacker Stephen Tulloch (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7865/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7865/news) dragged Tim Tebow for a loss, he put his own spin on Tebowing.

Water rises to its own level. Flacco is Kyle Orten. They are pretty much interchangeable. You will see that with Matt Ryan soon enough. He has a wealth of targets, yet is inconsistent. Tony Romo is the great Houdini, pulled the wool out from the entire league. There was a reason he went to Eastern Illinois. Shucks, Jay Cutler, my beloved Bears savior, might just be the 2nd coming of Jeff George.

I always had a softspot for the Panthers. If George Siefert thought they were good enough to coach, then they are OK. (even if he was fired after a 1-15 season, it wasn't all his fault)
The Panthers just seem lost, I am honestly thinking it may be a GM/ownership issue. I seen it with my team. Too cheap, and not football savvy.

“Can you believe ’15’?” one Detroit Lions defender asked after his team’s 45-10 immolation of Tebow and the Denver Broncos. “Come on – that’s embarrassing. I mean, it’s a joke. We knew all week that if we brought any kind of defensive pressure, he couldn’t do anything. In the second half it got boring out there. We were like, ‘Come on – that’s your quarterback? Seriously?’

All Tebow bashing aside.:)
Steve Young sat backup to Joe Montana for years. He learned alot from him, then when it was his turn he became a hall of famer in his own right, even surpassed his mentor.
Same with the NY Giants, Simms mentored Hostetler, both won rings.
Tebow could benefit from an older veteran quarterback leading the way. Even if Denver stinks for another year or two, it can pay off, and at least keep the team "interesting" for fans.
The talent is there, the QB sense is there, he just needs a little extra training.
Look at baseball. Double a , triple a levels. Even Hockey has a minor league to hone your skills in. The NFL is like the NBA..Sink or swim league.

Minnesota better get their act together. They are getting dangerously close to losing the Vikings to California. I am old enough to remember losing the Lakers to California in '58. It was sad.
They have been trying for several years to get a new stadium deal but all attempts to fund it have been failures. The Gophers and Twins both got new stadiums and no longer play at the dome. The Vikes have refused to renew their lease saying the dome is too old and is unprofitable compared to other NFL stadiums.
