Ok boys,
Now the list of available mods is enormous and I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times but I can't find it in a sticky...
I loved SH3 and SH4, but sh5 is like pulling teeth.
So what I'd like is a list of mods that you guys thinks give the best experience you can with SH5. I'd like to use the TDC if I want too, I'd also like to be able to set the WO to do it.
Before in SH4 I would use auto targeting, and merely set the depth of the torpedo and let the comp work out the angle on bow, target speed etc. But now it seems I must use the full tdc if I want to access the recognition manual?
So which mods would bring me closest to a more traditional silent hunter experience?
Also I have a reasonable gc card, Radeon HD 5770 1 gb, but the graphics 'stutter' and walking about is very slow, should I just drop the resolution or will some of the graphics mods help this out?
Also while I love being able to run into any port I feel like and sinking the ship, I really think the destroyers should come looking for me, and not simply start toward me and then stop and never move again as I go about slowly sinking each of them! At the same time I do NOT want an AI mod that makes them as difficult to evade as they were in real life!
Anyway any advice would be awesome, I'm sure with a few mods I should back to enjoying Silent hunter... Or maybe I should break out the old SH4 u-boat missions...

I've just picked up 5 after a good while playing SH4 and I have the same video card as you (with the same stutter problem).
I got rid of most of the stutter by dropping 'particles' in the gfx options down to the lowest setting, then applying the antilag DX9 fix:

Drop it into the game folder and follow the instructions in the readme.
Can't offer you much advice with mods as I seem to still be getting CTDs and other errors. There's currently nothing as 'complete' as Trigger Maru 2.2 for SH4, but a good starting point would be Magnum Opus:

Which has new UI's, new TDC and several environmental upgrades. Make sure you apply the latest FX Update directly after OM.
The best campaign mod is currently Open Horizons II:

The full version (even with reduced mines/port ships) clunks like hell for me so I'd try the Lite version first.
And finally torpedo critical hits, to randomize your damage a little and allow the odd one-hit kill (works best with ship damage bars turned off for immersion):

I left off the 16 by 9 fix as i'm playing in 1600x1200 and twd's patcher as I'm running the steam version.
Any ideas on where I can find the rest/Missing ones? Really worried about the depth keeping and water disturbances both by TDW...

Ok it all looks great...
but oh gosh.. no sub marked on the nav map.. I guess that is the real navigation stuff? I'd best look through all the options etc and see what to do with it.. I love how realistic that could feel, but I'd want it to atleast show my sub even if it is the nav officers guess, the realism would be awesome.. but alas, I dont' have time to play a game where even arriving at the mission site is a challenge...

If you follow the instructions to install real navigation you get a cross to mark where your navigator plots your position on the navmap . I use Trevally Automated Scripts v0.6 , real nav script and the navigator plots a position on the navmap every 2 hours . It doesnt make it that hard to navigate , just way more fun .

Well real navigation may make it's way back in shortly, though I think I prefer an experience that is slightly more gamey than realistic!
When I had it on I was too scared to even try to get out of kiel... withotu a sub there's no way points and I really like to set up a route and move up to tc x2048 or some such.. I think i'd find sailing around Denmark a real bore without way points...
But I'm still not sure I've got everything installed right, I noticed a few problems in my test patrol last night.
Firstly the watch officer was incorrectly giving me a bearing. He was telling me (repreatedly) that there was smoke on the horizon bearing 20 degrees when the only ship I could find with the external camera was on a bearing of around 350.
A little while later the problem cleared up, I'm not sure but I think the watch officer was seeing one ship but reporting the presence of another?
There were some errors I noticed in the message box, one was to do with a radio contact reporting error. The other was that when I sunk a ship the message box had no tonnage in it. This worried me so much I quit out and on the quit screen the tonnage was there.
Other than that all things look good. I've not tried a torpedo attack yet, will need to spend some time on the TDC tutorials.
Also is there anyway to get the Compass mod to disappear when I'm not hovering on it? It lurks in the way of the TAI map.
I love the environment mods, but I may need to find a less realistic under the sea one... I used to love watching the ships sink on the event cam, especially if it's a large warship :D... Can't see 2 ft in front of me with this current mod (which is as it would be!)
Anyway everything is a great improvement over stock! I just need to find a list of controls and then assign some keys for automation scripts and teleporting my captain (I hate ordering periscope depth just to be reminded I'm on deck...)
I'm still not sure I'm ever going to get used to s not being surface and p not being periscope depth but I'm sure it will come with time!!
I wish I did not have the steam version, I'd really like to have a hydrophone that worked properly!
EDIT: also what is the FX_update_0_0_16_2_UHS_fix mod?

I had the tdc off and set the nav and tai to draw the solution, numbers and cone...
The game did not draw the numbers and then crashed a bit later... :(
Am i best to give up and learn the tdc method now?

Is there a list of controls for the attack disk? I've no idea how to turn the dials rather than the pointers, or even turn it over!! :S
