I'm not sure, but you've seen how these Germans behave yesterday and this morning. No, I wouldn't have believed they were capable of doing something like this either, and I have no idea what they achieve by it, but it seems to me to be the likeliest explanation.

*turns to Tarrasque*

Yes, Mr. Tarrasque, do it.

Perhaps we should ask for a sit down with Herr HunterIXC to find out what's happened here?

Tarrasque

"Aye Aye Sir!"

*Turns to the men*

"You heard the captain. Dismissed! And if anyone comes across Mr Vendor, I want a word!"

*Turns back to the officers*

"Do you need me for anything else sir?"

The Enigma

knock knock. The Enigma is knocking at the office door of Hauptmann Rear
*waits and knocks again, but got no answer*

Hmmm :hmmm:
Maybe Rear is still at the POW camp.
Scheiße, now I have to go all the way back again.

I suppose we have no other choice...Yes, Mr. Tarrasque, try to get the attention of one of the Germans and ask him if Mr. Mookie and I can meet with their commander. He still hasn't supplied us with an explanation.

Tarrasque
06-25-11, 04:51 PM
"Sir."

*Walks to the fence and spots Gemeiner The Enigma returning*

"Oi! My skipper wants to meet with your boss. Be a good fella and arrange it!"

Reply to Nisgeis:

Indeed...they're far more interesting then we initially thought them to be.
If it where the food I would've killed the cook too for giving me indigestions.

*lits his pipe*

Yes.....Agreed we should eliminate their leadership as soon as possible....but shouldn't we have a bit of fun with the lower ranks first...perhaps we should try and see how much information we can squeeze out of them or perhaps having them doubt their own leadership.

As for shooting the Captain....I would shoot his Sub-Lieutenant first, have the captain's leadership crumble before his fall...he seems to be very hot headed....maybe he'll snap if we shoot his trusty Sub-Lieutenant which could lead to interesting developments dont you agree?

And I think we should get the American first for some ''questions'' he seems way out of place amongst the other crew members. Would you like to do the honor?

I will see to it Tommy, as soon as I have found him.

August

*He heads to the kitchen to get himself some breakfast and some bacon for Harras.*

Where he sees August in the Mess Hall just finishing his breakfast.

August says:
"I see that I am on the duty roster as Corporal of the Guard tonight so I should be turning in, but in light of the circumstances I think i'll go around and do an operators maintenance on all the tower machine guns. Before you go off duty bring an extra 100 round can of of belted tracer rounds up to each tower. If something happens tonight I want us to be prepared."

*Sees The Enigma talking to the British Prisoners*

"Gemeiner! What are you doing here? I thought you were patroling the castle grounds?"

*Turns to Rear*

"Sir, would you like me to take over the patrol? The Enigma has been on duty for a while now."

*To Lord Justice*

"Tommie, why are you still here? I told you to leave the mop and join your men... go!"

Tarrasque
06-25-11, 05:02 PM
*Returns to Raptor1 and subtly pulls him to one side.*

"Sir. Have you thought about the other possibilities about that exit? It might be possible for one of us to get out and repay the favour.

Those murdering bastards have it coming and well...Bakkels deserves vengeance.

Certainly if one of us slits that slimy SS scum's throat, he won't be coming back here and killing anymore of us."

He didn't mention when or why, so it seems there is no hurry.

Yes, Mr. Tarrasque, that has most certainly crossed my mind. Speaking of which, would you mind trying to use the breach we found in the fence to scout tonight?

Ah, yes, Mr. Justice, I see what you are referring to. That is indeed rather odd...

Takeda Shingen
06-25-11, 05:21 PM
Takeda sits alone on the bunkhouse stoop. He is deep in thought.

"So a man dies. Dies horribly. And all I can see is callous Germans and the Brits with their stiff upper lip. The way those Krauts pushed us around, we weren't even human. And that guy with the dog; what the hell kind of dog was that. It liked all the blood. Human blood. I think he could have done it. Either him, or that guy that we can't find.....what was his name.......Vendor? Yeah, that's him. Vendor. What the hell, we get captured and he just goes away. Then this happens? I bet it was Vendor. Yes, it was Vendor. In fact, if I had to choose the killer, it would be Vendor."

Oberon
06-25-11, 05:22 PM
*Oberon stares after August and shudders involuntarily. Werewolves...nonsense. There is nothing to fear except fear itself...and spiders.*

"Right, I guess I'd better take these belts of ammo up to the towers and then..."

*He yawns*

"Turn in myself...it was a long night."

*He picks up the ammo from the armory and takes them up to the towers as requested by August and then he heads down to the barracks...on the way he pauses by the kennel room.*

"Hmmm..."

*He opens the gates and clicks his fingers. Harras runs out and leaps up at him.*

"Come Harras, you're going to sleep next to me for now I think...just in case..."

*He heads to the barracks and gets into a bunk, Harras lies down on the floor next to him and curls up.*

The Enigma turns back to the castle to report to Hauptmann Rear.
Before reporting in, he decide to have something to eat in the kitchen.
Thinking over what had happened today, Schütze Enigma doesn't feel
comfortable. Even worse, his stomach no longer accepts the food he's trying to
eat.

*sigh*
Ich fühle mich nicht wohl wen ich daran denke was da passiert sein

*Talking to himself*

Who could have done such terrible thing?
Wait, who isn't there right now. Who is keeping low profile??
I can only think of one person. It's one of those English dorks.

Yes, that must be it. It must be that Tommy called Vendor.
If I have it may way, let's lynch that guy.

Task Force
06-25-11, 05:38 PM
Well... (setting in his bunk) Guess ill turn in for the night. Not much i can do.

Atleast from what i can tell. Most of Bakkels remains are gone... from what i can tell atleast.

Well, Im sure this will be just a one time thing... or at least i hope so.

"The Sub-Lieutenant would not have been my choice, but I can see a certain mockery in the plan. Cut off the neck and let the head see the body die. Very amusing."

"I am pleased we are on the same page with the reporter. I had thought of suggesting him, but I dared not. What a perfect cover - asking all sorts of inane questions at all times. He may have picked up on some subtleties of the environment to provide us with information. He may be of use, if he decides to co-operate."

"Above all else, we must protect this savage entitiy, give it safe harbour, so we may learn from it. None must be allowed to harm it!"

"Now, if you will excuse me, I will post up a proposal to the company to execute our friend the Sub-lieutenant."

Nisgeis walked over to the mess and pinned up a note addressed to all Germans that he had already written:

"Dear comrades,

It saddens me to inform you that one of our undercover operatives, whose real name is Bert Straud, active code name of Bakkels, was murdered today by the Britishers in their own camp. The attack came from within their camp as there was no sign of entry or exit, so one of their number must be responsible.

Bakkels had vital information that would have shortened the war by six months, but he was not able to deliver it, due to the savage and inhuman attack upon his person.

Ultimately it is the responsibility of Captain Raptor1 of the Britishers that our man was murdered, but suspicion for the act itself has fallen on Sub-Lieutenant Mookiemookie.

He was seen talking to Bakkels shortly before he was found mutilated and was heard to laugh about the mutilation later to Captain Raptor1. "They'd do the same for me" he was heard to say over our eletrical surveilance system. "Good Work" Captain Raptor1 replied to him.

I am sure we can all agree that such an act of murder against one of our own should not go unpunished and I am therefore calling upon the German contingent to vote for vengance against Sub-Lieutenant Mookiemookie. We must maintain the upperhand and control them."

Nisgeis takes a pen and writes "I Nisgeis, vote for Mookiemookie to be shot".

"Was?! Which idiot left this open? I bet it was that dumkopf Oberon again. Third time this month..."

Rear scrawls a notice in large letters and hammers it onto the door: 'KEEP DOOR SHUT AT ALL TIMES. NO SMOKING.'

"How could a gesture of kindness be taken in such a way? How could you draw such a conclusion? The mind boggles. I fear Captain that your own men are uncontrollable and are about to turn inwards upon themselves. Do not let the crystals of paranoia creep into your vision and affect your judgement."

"We have provided you with food, shelter and warmth since you graced us with your presence, but it seems that a growing contingent of your own men seem dissatisfied with your leadership. In fact, and I should not be telling you this, they plot to murder one of your own."

"As much as we have tried to control events, I fear the strength of feeling is so strong that even Oberst HunterIXC is unable to exert influence over even our own men. If you lose control of your men, then there really is very little we can do to protect your men. Internal security among your own men is your own concern, Captain."

Ah the old divide and conquer routine, is it? Straight out of Himmler's playbook, I'd wager. Well, your attempts to sow discontent amongst us will fail, Herr Nisgeis. I doubt any sane man of His Majesty's navy will take counsel on whom to trust from a bloody SS officer. Do as you will. Shoot me, leave me be, it matters not to me. But know this: every Englishman you put down only strengthens the resolve of the rest. Captain......you're the one to talk about discipline...especially after how your beloved cook turned out...well actually inside out from what I saw.
Trouble to control your temper or that of the others? Quite barbaric to do such a thing to your own crew....'tschk...tschk' if we want to get rid of someone we just shoot him...way more civilized don't you think?

anyway Captain you don't mind if we borrow the American do you? Nisgeis and I have some questions for him....don't worry Captain if he doesn't return you won't mind will you now? after all he's just an American....who cares about them!

"I'm sorry... what was that Captain? I couldn't hear your explanation over the sound of the explosives you used in that theory of how the Germans had murdered a man. Oh yes, I heard that conversation. Yourself and Mookiemookie discussing the possibility that the Germans had used explosives to stage the murder."

"How do you explain that no one heard a sound, if explosives were employed? It seems to me like this was a conversation between two conspirators, cooking up a plausible excuse. Now, if either of you have anything... shall we say... definite to tell me, then I will of course defend you to the last. However, if you are merely grasping at straws, then I shall not be interested."

"Do you seriously expect anyone to believe your explosives story, over the far more obvious and demonstrable attacking beast explanation?"

"I expect you two to stick together, as you obvisouly have something more than poor reasoning to hide."

Raptor1
06-25-11, 06:43 PM
Oh, so now you cook up some insane theory based on a piece of overheard conversation? It would not have been hard for a German with an axe or some other piece of heavy equipment to come in here and savage poor Mr. Bakkels even without explosives. Attacking beast? Ha. That would only work if you Jerries had let one in here in the first place. If it's so demonstrable, perhaps you should show us your beast...

From the opposite bunkhouse the comings and going of the Germans have been "watched". The Germans parading about, all entering and leaving the castle from some obscured entry point or gate to the south. Their timings were almost identical, 2 minutes to walk from the East turret, along the wall, before crossing downhill to the compound. Three minutes to walk back. All of them walked the same path.

The activity on the side of the other bunkhouse by the first Jerry - Pioneer had not yet named him - suggested that the fence line may be repaired. But there was still the matter the Captain needed to see. Captain Raptor may be able to shed light.

The Captain was walking through the compound with the Sub Mookie. Now was the time. As they began walking the inside track of the fenceline Pioneer feigned indigent and began walking backwards towards them. They met with a slight touch.

"Begging your pardon Captain," his hand diving into the Captains jacket. "Anyone would think I was reading The Times."

His hand retracted as he smiled, leaving the note for his Captain. He turned and walked off, pacing out the compound again.

"Schutze, you have orders to seal that hole in the fence as best you can before the sun sets. I am going to get some sleep since I had no rest at all last night. I will be in the officer's quarters if you need me, but if I do not answer when you knock on my door it is because I am asleep and you should report directly to the Oberst rather than wake me."

Rear makes sure the armoury is locked up tight and heads off to his bunk.

"You abandon the explosives theory then? It was a weak theory and not worthy of one who wishes to deceive his comrades. How could you have ever convinced them that they had not heard the explosives you claim ripped apart Bakkels' chest. It was an elementary mistake."

"But, you know... if you do want to tell me something... then I am listening. If you are a certain type, then, we should come to an arrangement. No one need know, but really you must stop with the unbelievable scenarios before you are discovered. I can help you, if you wish it."

"Mr. Bakkels was one of our operatives and would not have been attacked by one of his countrymen. His loss will be felt deeply by the whole of Germany."

Nisgeis turns and walks back to his quarters.

"There's something very wrong about this place sir. We may be in Finland, but how many castles are built on a sandy base? Gefreiter Tinman casually walks into the kitchen... empty, good... now where are you hiding... ah! there, a nice big bottle of Schnaps, perfect for what I have in mind.
Hiding the bottle inside his coat he heads out into the courtyard, past the armorey. "The Oberst told me to check in my weapon before I leave camp. But I really would feel much better with it at my side.. besides, who would unlock the door for me now? I bet the Herr Rear has already turned in anyway."
As he passes through the gate house he sees Gemeiner AVGWarhawk in the garden, tending to his crops.

"Good evening, Herr AWGWarhawk! I look forward to another meal with your fine vegetables!"

Following the path toward the dock, the guard tower quickly comes into view.

"Hello up there!" No answer. "Hello?" Still nothing

Muttering under his breath Tinman climbs the steps into the tower, "if your asleep in here, so help me..." It's empty, nobody is guarding the submarine.
"So much for needing the Schaps!" It's too awkward to carry any further, so he leaves the bottle in the observation deck of the guard tower. "Whoever is up here next will have a nice surprise." He climbs down and boards the British submarine through one of the open aft hatches.

"Come now, Lieutenant, you are aware of my position. I will not tolerate your insolence for a second. Now, find your captain and let him know I'm not a man to trifle with."

The British stood, frustrated. "First Mr. Takeda, now poor Vendor," said Chief Tarrasque.

Hmphhh, do this, do that. Why didn't I keep my big mouth shot.

I wonder if one of my comrades needed a huge nightcap.

There were log books next to the maps, Tinman opened one and begin to read.

"Day 105.
The forward pumps are no longer serviceable. The forward torpedo room is taking on water and as many people as possible have been moved to the aft section to try and balance the boat.
After council with the Sub-lieutenant, the decision has been made to attempt to save the crew by surfacing and making for land. The boat will be scuttled once the crew is safely ashore. I don't mind saying that I will be having a bloody stern chat with those fellows in SOE once we are rescued!"

Tinman looked up from the book, "SOE? Who are they? Herr Nisgeis will want to see this and I have run out of spare pockets. I should have brought a sack!" Tinman cursed his lack of preparation. "I should go back to the castle and get some sleep."

*Climbs out of the submarine and heads back to the castle and to the dorms to sleep*

Nisgeis walks into the interrogation cell and sits down opposite the American war correspondent.

“You look sad Herr Takeda Shingen. Is something troubling you? Ah, but of course you are imprisioned in a fortified camp, with desolate surroundings in a foreign land, with a foreign crew you hardly know, with no hope of escape. How silly of me to forget such a detail.”

“Cigarette?” he said as he offered an open packet to the reporter. “They are American.” He smiled "A taste of home."

“I suppose you’d expected a different outcome from your jaunt in that little boat? You only wanted a tale to tell, that would enthral the reader. Perhaps gain some prestigious writing award?”

Nisgeis drummed his finger on the table for several moments. “Why yes! Perhaps I can help you after all. What better story for your readers than an exciting sea battle, followed by capture and then… escape!”

“We can transport you for ‘special interrogation’. The plane would take a flight path that would follow the border. Perhaps it would develop engine trouble and be forced to land at, let us say, a small field barely a mile from the border, with barely any facilities – certainly no brig or secure facilities of any kind. The pilot would request the guard’s help to fix the engine, so he would be distracted. Perhaps then a messenger arrives to deliver a message and carelessly leaves his motorcycle with the engine running – what a chance to escape that would be. Your guard would of course fire at you, but would be disappointed to find that the ammunition he had been issued with had defective powder.”

“Events such as this have happened before and I’m sure will happen again. All I need from you, is to, as you say ‘use your nose’. Find out all you can and report back to me. I wish to find the creature that attacked our man Bakkels. The creature has nothing to fear from me, I only wish to learn from it. Report anything you find to me and I will see to it you return to your country a hero.”

Dawn, and the alarm goes out.

The British run pell-mell from the bunkhouse to stare through the fence at the castle. "What's Jerry on about now?" asked Sailor Lord Justice.

"No idea," replied Petty Officer Jumbuna. "But those Krauts better not have shot our Yank. He owes me 10 quid."

Inside Castle Collinswood, Oberfeldwebel Ducimus ran into Oberst HunterICX's bed chamber. "Sir! Come quickly, you need to see this!"

HunterICX threw off the leather coverlet and hopped one-legged, pulling on his boots. "Mein gott, not again."

He ran down the stairs, following Ducimus. At the foot of the chapel was a mass of bloody flesh. A pale and visibly shaken Gefreiter August stood stood, steadying a trembling Schuetze AVGWarhawk.

Obert Hunter choked back a cry. This was bad, this was very, very bad.

06-26-11, 10:41 AM
Making his hourly rounds of the guard posts Corporal August pauses along the castle parapet above the dormitory and looks out toward the POW cage. The bright moon light glinted off the helmets of the sentries as they marched along the fence.

Suddenly in the distance he could hear the mournful howl of a wolf and the sentries all stopped in their tracks. Their Alsatians, normally straining at their leashes, instead huddled against their legs, whimpering and whining, with tails tucked between their legs. Only for a moment though, before German discipline reasserted itself and both beast and master continued on their patrol.

August shuddered. Whether it was from the icy winds blowing off the sea or from half remembered childhood nightmares, he could not, or would not, say but he turned up the collar of his Great Coat and continued his rounds, wondering what the daylight would bring.

Hauptmann Rear inspects the vicinity of the attack.

"Nothing of much use to us Sir. The guard tower by the boat was unguarded when I reach it. Clearly they must not man it all the time.

The Jerry bastards have ransacked the boat it self. There's not much left there. I did find this however..."

They were not guarding the sub? That's interesting, they must be more overstretched than we thought. Did you see anything else there? Small watercraft or docking facilities? I'd still like to know how the Jerries are getting supplied...

Good find. I don't want the crew to get too drunk, but that can certainly help to boost morale. We should probably ratio...Wait, are we sure it's not planted there by the Germans? Could be poisoned. Have we any way to test it?

“My word! Three in one go? That is an amazing achievement. A clumsy arrangement of the remains… lacking in style… no sense of aesthetics. But what power! Three in one go, or perhaps… not…”

Nisgeis knelt by the mass of bloody mess and started to separate the chunks of flesh turning the pile of flesh into three neat rows, each with the former contents of each victim.

“Now Gentleman, for the examination! By careful application of science, we should be able to determine whether this is the work of one magnificient beast, or the work of two or more. The distance between the claw marks etcetera should be able to tell us some information about numbers. No two beasts will have identical claws and therefore would leave dissimilar claw marks, likewise with their teeth, just like a human.”

Nisgeis took out a small pair of callipers and a rule and proceeded to measure the width between the claw and teeth marks, the depth of the puncture wounds and the spacing between them, in order to determine whether this was the work of one beast of more.

“There are a lot of wounds, so this may take some time. When finished I will compare my findings here with that of Bakkels’ wounds.”

Nisgeis proceeded to work on the remains, looking forward to the results of his examination.

Jimbuna scratched his head deep in thought then winced as he inadvertantly touched the spot that was sore.

The pain brought with it the sudden realisation that he still had the lucky talisman given to him at the end of his last shore leave by his mother, a six inch long paper knift crafted from pure silver.

The paper knife was held by a couple of stitches behind the lapel of his tunic, it was extremely sharp and had a wicked bayonet-like point at it's end and had obviously been overlooked by the guards, probably because he had been knocked unconscious almost at the first point of contact with the Germans and therefore not deemed to be that much of a threat to his captors.

'I may have a need for my talisman after all' he thought to himself.

Jimbuna turns to LJ and says "Well, whatever the commotion is should make another interesting day of things. Got any fags (cigarettes) on ya"?

The late arrival in the morning hours of the bunkhouse has seen Pioneer blissfully ignorant of the overnight events. He rises, finds the bunkhouse deserted except for another sleeping soul, and begins to move out. From the conversation he rationalizes something has happened at the Castle.

He wanders the perimeter fence, this time watching the walls of the Castle like a hawk and not like his previous quick glances. There are still no guards about, like there were last night.

The fence winds around and he finds himself at the hastily repaired breach point. The craftsmanship is present, but the earth has not assisted. There is still the trench, and with the soft soil, a little digging could enlarge the gap for one or two men to get through.

It may be time to discover where the water stream behind the privy flows to, and discover if there is something beyond the compound.

*** OFFICIAL DISCOVERY ***

“Gentlemen, I have completed my analysis of the remains. I must tell you that each of last night’s victims were attacked by a different assailant. What is more, none of these assailants matched the attacker of Bakkels.”

Nisgeis looked around. “I’m sure you can appreciate that this means that there are at least four creatures that have attacked so far.”

*** END OFFICIAL DISCOVERY ***

“I have no idea where the creatures are, but I do know that the creature that attacked the first night did not attack the second night and as we all know, Takeda Shingen was in the interrogation room and was not allowed out all night, so it is possible that he is responsible for the first attack, but then again, perhaps not. I simply do not have enough evidence to say either way. It is merely a hypothesis.”

Nisgeis smiled and strolled out of the room, in the direction of the Obert’s office. He knocked and entered when bid and announced “I believe we may have a slight situation.” and went on to explain his results, afterwards he went to repeat his speech to the Britishers in the camp to inform them of the situation at hand.

Stupid stairs, they look all the same to me. Nothing unusual to see.

Let's take a closer look to that window.
Funny, I overlooked this on my previous round.

Gefreiter August may have been guarding that English Petty Officer in the infirmary when the Terrific first came ashore, but Rear could not say where that soldier was until recently. It seemed odd that the amount of attacks increased after August reported for duty once more.

Ya know, when we came here, I thought the Germans where gonna be our biggest problem. Hell, i originally though they where all going to kill us. Though it would appear now, that they are the least of our problems.

The search for the Captain proves fruitless, and a dank thought begins to grow. The Captain's movements last night and the night before are really unaccounted for...by witnesses. Who would dispute the Captain of the boat when captured by the enemy, perhaps he may be a werewolf. Could there be others?

There were three bodies last night, one the night before. Is it the work of a pack of four, or is the work of one. Until we receive further information, as a sailor, I can only assume it is the work of one, who savaged three last night. How many more may be savaged tonight.

There may be little sleep tonight. The bunkhouse feels colder and the flimsy blanket supplied does little to keep the sharp claws of an animal out. I shall lay awake for a few hours on my bunk listening to the sounds of the night, before fatigue will eventually get me.

And if it should be me, then my duty to England is done.

Except for Nisgeis, he's the SS here. He needs to be lynched, werewolf or not. He is the enemy.

Vote for Nisgeis to be lynched.

Night begins

*Thanks....I was starting to get confusede in all of the thread soup LOL*

Jimbuna set off toward the north turret looking for a breach or anything that would aid him in getting into the castle.

He looked up into the cloudy sky and could see the bright moon poking its light intermittently downwards between the passing clouds.

Jimbuna grinned at himself thinking this was just like his younger days when he would act like this during game playing with his friends, games such as 'hide and seek' or 'japs and commandos'....but this time it was not for fun and entertainment, this time it was serious, a matter of life and death even.

Moving from shadow to shadow in a crawl/crouched position and regularly stopping to listen for any sounds he would gaze into the night in every direction looking for any sign of movement but first he needed to find a way in.

After what seemed an eternity but what was probably just ten minutes or so he came across some crumbling stonework at the base of the north turret. He very carefully moved a few of the bricks until there was just enough space for him to squeeze through.

Once inside he saw a door which was open, he crouched as low as he could and using the shadows to his advantage moved to the door. Looking beyond it he could see the courtyard and about ten yards further on a single storey building which had to be the kitchen he thought because of the washing line next to it full of tea towels drying in the cold moonlit night.

He grinned to himself as he thought 'not much chance of them being dry by the morning in these weather conditions'.

Keeping to the shadows he moved across the courtyard to the kitchen window and from the light of the open fires embers he peered through the window looking for any signs of life.

He could see the stove/cooker, an array of pots and pans hanging from an overhead timber, a large preparation bench and a large wooden table and bench seating but no signs of any life.

He crept round to the door and tried the handle, the door was unlocked so he entered, closing the door behind himself.

A careful study of the interior uncovered a cooling cupboard where a large number of carcasses were hanging 'If I wasn't thinking straight some of them could easily be mistaken for human torsos' he thought to himself.

Another cupboard was well stocked with vegetables and tins of food with German labels so he had no way of knowing what the wording meant 'The German language was never one of my strong points but these Jerries certainly eat well' he thought.

On the far side of the preparation bench was a drawer, he opened it and his eyes lit up when he saw the selection of knives and utensils it contained.

'Some of this kit may well come in handy' he thought as he picked up a carving knife and a meat cleaver, carefully putting them inside his tunic.

In the corner of the kitchen on a shelf he noticed a bottle of wine and three bottles of schnapps, he picked up one of the schnapps bottles and put that in his tunic as well 'Jerry won't miss one bottle and my need is greater' he grinned to himself.

He suddenly froze when he heard a noise outside, he peered out of the window and could just make out the shape of what looked like a very tall human at the far end of the courtyard......then a howling noise filled the still night air and jimbuna automatically felt for his talisman and the knife and cleaver as a way of reassuring himself he was well equipped to protect himself from whatever was emitting that terrible sound....but jimbuna hadn't convinced himself at all, he murmured to himself 'frack this for a game of soldiers, it's time I reported back to my shipmates'.

With that one goal in his mind he started the trip back to the compound with the same stealth that had brought him into the castle.

:::The sound of raised voices raises him for what little sleep he has had. What sounded like British accents is now suddenly quiet. He rises and goes outside, the night still hands but the air is crisp, but death still hangs in it like the smell on the battlefield. He hunches his jacket tighter up over his shoulders and plunges his hands into his pockets as he moves around the bunkhouse. His eyes start to focus on the job at hand - survival.:::

"There are no guards still," he mutters to himself. None visable on the castle wall, none visible around the compound. With no guards about there is work to be done in the quiet of the last vestibules of night.

He hurries to the far side of the bunkhouse where the hole int he fence was. Within minutes he has unravel the shoddy workmanship of the wire and salvaged a three foot piece of wire, the perfect length to strangle a guard. Behind him off the old bunkhouse, he spots a plank. The old wooden structure has been here a while - whether by design as the original residency when the castle was being built or perhaps other more sinister reasons, but it is old, and cracked. One plank and two board are warped. Using the wire he is able to lever the plank out far enough to get his fingers behind it. He looks around.

"This is going to make some noise," he thinks to himself.

Crack.

The plank comes off in a four foot section leaving four nails in the end piece. Before anyone knows, he is back in the bunkhouse and has secreted the section of wood under the mattress of a vacant bunk.

Another night on this dreaded wall. Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Oberst HunterIXC ? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You smile for those mauled, and you curse the tommies. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Bakkel's and Vendor's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn about you or the garden. I'm thinking tonight is my last night I'm watching a wall. Something stange is not right here.

PO Jimbuna moved along the tall castle wall, clutching his holy grail of schnapps, heading for the North turret breach, when something brushed his shoulder. He froze. The hair on his neck--literally-- began to stand up and he felt the involuntary sensation of his skin creeping. He fought to turn his head. A shadow appeared from the darkness--it was true!--a creature, a true monstrosity towered over the petty officer, fangs glistening in the moonlight.

Jimbuna felt his body go limp. Must not pass out, Jim old boy, face it like a man, he thought. He reached for the cleaver, desperate to make an honest stand. The bottle of schnapps slipped to burst on the pavement. The creature raised a hairy claw, then paused. Jim struggled to catch his breath--for a moment he felt a glow, a power sweep over him. The creature recoiled and bolted past him through the breach in the North turret and was gone.

Jimbuna felt life return to his legs and began running in the opposite direction, unconcerned that he was moving away from his only route back to the camp. Then he heard a scream of pain from inside the Great Hall and checked his flight. There was some kind of uproar in the Great Hall. He pressed himself against the kitchen wall as Schütze The Enigma raced past. Steadying his nerve, he turned toward the North turret and made his escape in the growing light, back to the camp.

Schütze The Enigma found Hauptmann Rear at the Oberst's bedside. Their CO was a lifeless corpse, the carefully manicured features torn and shredded. "Mein Gott!" said Enigma, unable to tear his eyes from the scene. "Hauptmann...I guess this means you are in charge now. What are your orders, sir?"

Rear replied, "Check the other men, have someone check Gefreiter August, he was alone in the Dock Guard Post, make sure we are all safe and accounted for." The private snapped to attention and saluted, and ran from the room.

OOC: Another thing to consider is since a werewolf can only take one victim per night the triple murder on the 2nd night that means there are at least three werewolves in the game.

That's right

*cocks weapons. Checks the Howitzer and the hidden MP40. Also pulls Mauser HSC, Gewehr 98, MG 42, Karbiner 98K and a Panserfaust for good measure. Good for tanks and better for werewolves.

That's right

Technically. None of the three killers were the same as killed Bakkels...so there's at least four werewolves...

*Petty Officer L J gets out of bed and goes to the compound* " I wonder what has happened now? must be jerry, not that's important to me any more. Its about survival escape!! " * Glances over to small hole in the fence * "I see you tonight old boy, just stay open. " * remains in compound for information *

there is even more to consider:

Oberfeldwebel Ducimus, lange nicht mehr gesehen (long time no see)
We have a very wide area to cover, The prisoners only the camp (and the privy).
Our SS man loves blood and examining human remains.
August has been accused of being a werewolf.
SS Nisgeis has been accused the same.

OOC: Also:

Given last nights events Jimbuna has been shown to be a human.
You only have my word that Nisgeis accused me of being a werewolf.

How you figure?

The werewolves can take one victim per night. Bakkels was killed on a different night than the other three as was the HunterIXC.

*Jimbuna lying on his bunk recovering from his recent experience*

'How in Gods name do I tell my shipmates what I've seen'?

'Who'd believe me'?

'They'd lock me up for sure thinking I'd gone mad'

He placed the carving knife and cleaver under his mattress then checked he still had the wooden stake and lucky talisman on his person...they were both still there.

'I could do with that schnapps right now' he thought to himself.

Pioneer
06-27-11, 01:59 PM
::::Rises to the commotion and begins to wander about listening intently. The Germans have lost another, that makes the fourth in three nights plus we lost one of our own. The numbers are dwindling. The German can't afford to be guarding anywhere but the castle now, perhaps there may be a way out after all. The need to inspect the perimeter is rising. The stream, the woods, other side of the castle. The Germans are scared, now is the time to disrupt.:::

Pioneer walks toward the compound gate and notes there are still no guards around, and none that he can see. He begins feverishly using the wire form the fence to slot open the padlock on the gate. Within minutes the mechanism releases, and the padlock opens. He pockets the open padlock and closes it within the warmth of his pocket.

"No more tunneling under the wire, we'll just walk out now and wait to see where the challenge comes from."

Pioneer pushes the gate open and waits for the sound of gunfire or shouting. There is none, and he steps through. Nonchalantly he moves around the wire and heads for the stream, unchallenged by werewolf or German.
