Typhoon SSBN for SH4.
Typhoon SSBN for SH4.
credit goes to Jhapprich, and a dude on sketchup for the model, i converted it to use in the American career,
and to Silverwolf, for the interior and ETR3(SS) for the new campaign option from Bangor, WA.
this adds a new boat starting in 1941 for the USA, the Typhoon SSBN.
this nice sub comes with a complete compliment of SLBMs, torpedoes, and yes, extensible masts.
istallation:
enable with JSGME (Jones Soft Generic Mod Enabler).
use:
tubes 7-14 are the VLS tubes,
1-6 are the torpedo tubes.
NOTE: take caution when within 3,000 meters and using SLBMs!!!
THIS WILL END YOUR CAREER PREMATURELY!

Bugs i have already noticed:
- Game starts with the Golf III loading screen (no i do NOT have the Golf mod enabled as well)
- While selecting the 'Typhoon' in the quick mission menu... it is labled: 'Typoon'

go to: Data/Menu/Loading and delete the contents of that folder.. :yep:
for the text typo, id have to look into that....

Tried nuking a docked freighter... Missiles fired correctly, flew about 300 meters and then detonated. destroying the 'Typoon'

probably hit a dock.... make sure there are no obstructions in your way!
this is a hardcoded issue i cannot fix and noone can.

I have a few problems, firstly the starboard propeller isn't spinning and the interior is all black. I can't see anything. Also, how do you fire the missles?

Yamato,
There is no 'Readme" with this sub. Does it require other MODs to work? I just d/l and enabled with JSGME and it crashes when attempting to go on a mission.

I've just downloaded said file and theres a folder labeled "backup(2)" Is that of any importance?
@peabody My game CTD's aswell so im guessing that it does require other mods,
It also changes my menu from the german carer to soviet, so maybe theres still some dependances somewere?

no other mods are necessary, but i recommend yamato to have his messy filework cleaned up. no crew to the attack center, partially russian signatures, wrong loadscreen and since when does a "Typoon" have 26 missile tubes...and no torpedos in base either. nicht gut. sorry but ill stick to mine . ps CTD at careerstart pearl at me , too.
ps yamato, you need to assign the correct type of missile, use the MK10 instead of the T3 and the MissileSilo,not MissileSilo SU. and check the entry dates for the extensibles, the SJ is missing in `41

Well thank God I got it to work and I must say it's pretty fun to cruise around in.
The Interior looks pretty good,it Feels Russian.But it doesn't look finished,not that It takes away from the mod in itself.
The VLS tubes look great,and the outside is amazing.I'm so happy they work,I can actually SEE the SLBM launched!It was so awesome to see that!And it descends to water level near the water!Man I love these things!
87 Thousand tons on my first war patrol,2 large Convys destroyed!MOH, Jesus this thing is unfair!
Seeing other people having problems with it makes me sad so 7/10 due to the CTD problems others seem to be having.
Just playing this thing and seeing most of the functions of a Nuke sub working right makes me anticipate the Cold War SS mod even more!
Now I wonder if I can find a Batlshipe heavy Taskforce...Maybe a Yamato or two!

you have to acquire one (1) target, open tube (or tubes) 7-14 for missiles,
and 1-6 for torpedoes. and FIRE AWAY!
(and watch the fireworks! :rotfl2:)
or: if you prefer manual TDC, dont use the periscope and use the hydrophone/attack map for a nuke boat feel!
i will release a new file that will allow you to fire missiles at 100 meters down!
Note: the torpedoes the sub gets HAVE NOT been implemented into the US campaign yet... ill work on that later... atleast you get nuke reloads though! :yeah:
Yeah,the best way to use those nukes it to launch em at Hydro contacts.I save torpedos for single contacts since a nuke vs single merchant is more unfair than it already is!:haha:
I really need to find a Taskforce full of Carriers or Battleships,That would really be a kill blow to the Japs!I mean,it's bad enough I'm nuking their convys!:haha:
I kinda feel bad for the fish though,And I think I might have created Godzilla,but it was worth it!

What am i doing wrong ?
i go to my periscope, lock on a target with that "s" button. en hit the big red button. no response at all. same if i use the attack map or the observation scope.
I' m using it on the quick mission battle for midway. in campaign it wont fire to...

wait no weapons?Do you have 1.4 or 1.5/U-boat Missions?
you need 1.5/U-Boat Missions to play this Mod as the weapons are covered under the German Torpedo data.That's also why I think it changed "German Campaign" to "Soviet Campaign"

1.5v u-boat missions did 2 re- installs today..
ps: tubes are all armed. but the just wont fire.

i might also rename the Typhoon to "Red October" :rock: for the Tom Clancy fans out there.
i might also increase the Nuke blast power to "real" levels... once i find the value.... :doh:

P.S. yes, ze mizziles need the doors OPEN to fire!:rotfl2:
I am also debating releasing an Ultra Quiet, Super stealthly version for the evil ones out there! (more nuke reloads, sonar that can detect a DD at Ahead Flank @ 60 NM, more torp reloads, 50 RPM engines, making you virtually undetectible, and a bunch of other things.)

I never thought of that.Seeing as most of the people who have played this and SH3 for a long time,wouldn't run into this probelm.:)
I'll test that right now. Await for an Edit soon.
EDIT: Damn Yamato beat me to it!:DL But yeah,then doors will not automatically open when you hit the fire button.no need to strenthen the Nukes,I just One Shot a Yamato with one!Mabye increase the blast radius from 3,000 to 5,000 meters?
On the Super Red October: Just make it Fly and turn invisible when you Rig it for Silent Running!:haha:

I know this is a stupid question but how do you raise the masts? I've tried the conventional shift+X and nothing happens...
Also this boat takes ages to dive, my current record is 30 ingame mins. Any idea how to increase the diving speed?

im not sure, i used "SH4 keymapper" to re map that key to Shift+X.
ill include the commands_en.cfg file in the 0.2 release....

@CJ, i have not included the commands_en.cfg
in the release, i will make an upload of it once i get home... :up:
P.S. the key is Shift+X with the .cfg
alternatively, use the SH Keymapper program, it is a powerful tool that allows you to map keys... but i will upload the commands_en.cfg to my mediafire....

Must say my sub dive as fast as he want. some times its under a min and sometimes it takes 6 min.

My sub in the career does sometimes just dive to the bottom of the sea..
and does not come back up.

But if you through it in all astern flank you should* be able to reverse out to the surface.

I think its because your going that fast when you dive the game can't adjust the planes/ballast etc in time for the sub to level off. Its also why the boat will overshoot your target depth if your going any faster than say 20 knots

And don't blame the PC for the lag,Blame FRAPS.I hate that thing with a passion due to the lag on activation and only 30 second window,it leads to ---- like that.
Anyone got a good Free Video Capture Program that they use.I'd rather not use FRAPS again.

Fraps actually does a better job than camstudio as far as quality. What are your video settings? I set mine to half frame at 29.97fps and my computer is borderline on the video card for SH4 and I don't have problems with Fraps. Fraps is limited to 30 sec on the free version.
With Camstudio I have had it stop recording after a certain amount of time, but it never tells me it stopped. I never measured the amount of time, but I never get "the whole thing" when I record with it.

But i made tons of movies for rome total war so i know how the drill go's haha.
But my sub is lagging.. wont dive good any more with 5 knots i hit the ocean floor..
Does i need the u-boat mission expansion or im supposed to be ok with the 1.4v because when im trying to opening the game it's crash because it say that some files are missing

I used up all the non-nuclear torpedos in a single patrol, headed back to Pearl Harbor, docked, and when I was in the Captain's office checking the upgrades and stuff for my sub, I noticed that the sub was loaded up with the standard MK 14 torpedos, instead of the special green ones that the mod comes with. And when I go to try to buy torps, the only one that comes up is the nuke. Any idea on how to get the green torps back?

That is an issue that happens to me sometimes. I am far from the enemy ships, I launch, and yet still blow up. I found out while I was wating the patch of the missle, that the targeting system occasionally screws up, and has the nuke lad around 500, to 1000 feet in front of you, instead of near the enemy ships

First of all, I want to say that this sub looks amazing! Keep up the great work! However, after I put it in my mods folder and activated it, whenever I launch the program it freezes after the main load screen right after the load bar goes across and then when I alt-tab out of the program I get a ton of error messages saying that files are missing. Can anyone help me with this please?

I coudn't help but notice the sub has problems with the compressed air. It does take her more than 3 hours on the surface to slowly start regenerating the air compression level. And one more thing is that I don't understand why with limited batteries option checked, the batteries are still limited even though she's a nuclear submarine (I've played the Ohio and Los Angeles class and even with that option on, the batteries are unlimited). Hope you will get that covered soon yamato_nf!

Hello. No clock counts down the time after firing torpedoes or missiles. Why? I use the mod Typhoon.
Downloaded this mod yesterday and noticed coming out of the game, docked or saved at sea the game crashes on exit! Going back in no problem, I can pick up where I left off.... Well that was yesterday, unfortunately today I can not. I get pass the please wait window and just as the game starts the dreaded CTD happens. I checked the SH4 report which states cause unknown. Shame this has happen and its a good fun mod and I can only hope in time a more stable version comes along.

So far everything works I think, very rarely I crash when the sub takes damage. But for some reason I can't fire my nukes, the regular torpedoes work, just extremely weak(Takes 6-8 to blow a ship up). The nukes just go up maybe 80 ft ig and drop very slowly, they go to about 40 ft underwater and sometimes it says torpedo impact but nothing happened because it disappears no more that a dozen feet away from me

is a 120 m and 32000 tons beast, almost the weight of Titanic, not an attack sub, that is her time to submerge
if you want do it faster go to data/submarine/yoursub/, find the .sim file, open him with sil3nt editor and increase ballast tanks flood speed
Not too much because you will have funny efects like a sub swimming like a dolphin or going down like a rock :D

you have other mods instaled?
some mods modifies commands cfg to work in old style, with f3 for periscope station, but pageup/ctrl + pageup for rise periscope is still the same

If I dock in a harbor and reload the boat i have just the stock mark 13 torpedos loaded.
If i end an patrol and want to reload(buy) torpedos, i can just reload the nuke rockets but no torpedos.

I have been playing with this mod for awhile and I have never had a problem until today. When I looked at the torpedo screen the only one I could choose was the ICBM(That's technically what it is.) Has anyone else ever had this problem and if so is it fixable?

I was lucky and found this awesome game AND this cool mod that would make it perfect. I updated to 1.5 after trying on 1.3. But I have uninstalled 2 times, and I can't seem to find the sub. Fresh game. Started carrer, set it to 1941 and Pearl, but I only get 3 options, none of them the Typhoon. I know this is and old post, but if some1 could help me I would be very greatful.

second: I have been polishing this sub for what seems like 2 1/2 months, and i got as far as to add a whole bunch of content.

got it loaded set sail out of washington, had cruise missile, ad torps, and nukes on board.. all goes well went scope depth, raised scope but once i clicked on it to look thru scope had ctd. grrr. ill run it some more once back home.

Hey brandon it did that to me a few times. uninstall, reinstall.. also clear yoru cache. Also check your vidio card.. i pulled my card and ran it on newer card.. im using windows 8.. hope it helps.. its a fun mod

Not possible. the mod uses alot of assets from 1.5, so a 1.4 release is impossible. unfortunate? yes. But there is nothing I can do.
Trying out the 0.75 version and so far stable game play but there is a weird issue the crew start spouting off numbers and this dose not stop until I come out of the game. Also I have noticed the game will not close properly and I have to result to Ctrl+Altl+Delete option apart from those two strange issues so far no CTD unlike 0.2 version.
Like the arsenal of weapons, those rockets make me laugh flying around a target ship some times three to four time before slamming into them. :har:

if you are firing torps etc while running deep, look at your plot screen, and see if the target line/torp course curves. if i had targeted a ship and submerged my parascope is pointing in that direction and my ordenance will follow that path.. TRY going to your scope and bring its bearing back to 0. then the torp should go straight ahead, or estimate the targets bearing and let her fly. I hope this made sense. sure is easier to do than to write it..

No Klaus it's a lot simpler than that, the issue is he forgot to open the doors before he tried to fire. try selecting the tube or missile you want to fire, then hitting q. wait a couple seconds for the door to open and then fire
i've installed this mod, but it wont fire the torpedos, don't know why, i dont have anything else installed and used JSGME to instal Typhon.
i've the sh4 and u boat mission on steam.
Is there any specification to be able to fire torpedos on this? or what should i do?

You have to open each tube door every time you fire. they don't stay open. default command is Q. Which I explained in the post RIGHT ABOVE yours

Hi, unfortunately I have come across an issue involving a CTD upon loading of the submarine. I have enabled the mod via JSGME. the only other mods that i have activated are for an improved environment. ill see what i can do on my end to fix the issue.

Do you have any firewalls or antivirus installed? Maybe you should shut them down before trying again and re enable them after the download.

Do you have any firewalls or antivirus installed? Maybe you should shut them down before trying again and re enable them after the download.

Nothing, I've installed only this mod... the typhoon sub and then I've noticed why doesn't work and I've review this thread... so I installed the 1.4 patch.. it works fine yeah totally but in the middle of the game I engaged with a merchant and sadly I fire a torpedo at the aft.... without number tube and the game crash..

Well, got the mod working, but, noticed something...Red October sank after fighting in the Battle of Midway and the only two indications of "Oh CRAP!!" was the loss of my periscopes and that the sub headed for the bottom...1460 feet down and emergency surface didn't work. The crew merely accepted their fate and didn't tell Ramius...Eh, me.
No damage indicators either.

Hey guys I need your help in this kind of mod, the command center which is the main center of the submarine is turned to a black... the textures of the said command room has gone, it's already black and ugly :down: and the parameters of the command room is also. but the radar room is fine, the textures were stable but the command center doesn't... So do you have added some modifications here on your sub? It looks like a blade in the deepest seas... :rock: because I've seen your post a while ago, you have so many crews, just like the modern subs now... :)

I'm not sure, to be honest. With my luck, one of the torpedoes looped around and slammed into me. I didn't know at the time that they are acoustic homers. Nice to have, as long as one remembers to hit "all stop", then, loose the torpedo and cross your fingers it hears the enemy boat. Then again, the impact is something to behold as it can throw a destroyer out of the water.
What gets me is I have a mega-mod installed (Fall of the Rising Sun) and there's one freighter there that cannot be hit. Torpedoes go through it like it isn't there and I even rammed it with the Typhoon and...nothing. It can fire and HIT me, but, to my weapons, regardless of ship, it's a ghost ship.
I love those very high speed initial torpedoes, though. I did a single mission with the Bismarck...two of those puppies killed the battleship. Once the engines stopped, my homing torps went over 6000 yards and killed a friendly...Oooops!!!
I'm not complaining, though. Fall of the Rising Sun ruined my other homing torpedoes and turned them into straight line/1500 yard or less solution. The Typhoon at least restored some homing torpedoes :)

Not that funny when you're getting damage reports while your brand new Red October is heading for Davy Jones' Locker.
But, those torps pack a strong punch! One of the "Fall of the Rising Sun" missions has four US flat tops side by side. I backed Red October to a safe distance and fired a single homing torpedo at the bow of the first one (like a SINKEX). All four flat tops exploded violently and sank 10 minutes later. I might have to fire up Fraps and get a movie of that, though.

I tested that earlier. I did not fire the missiles as I was well within the 3000 yard radius. In the scenario, you have four stationary American Carriers side by side. I fired a torp out of tube 3, this is a homing torpedo. Since the ships were at all stop, I knew that to hit the first one, I had to merely back up as I was already at a 90 degree AOA. I went back to about 1400 yards and "Fire tube 3!"
Soon as it smacked the side of the closest flat top, it was "All hands! ABANDON SHIP!!!!" as they were so close that there was a chain reaction. I'll put the video on YT ASAP...
And, yeah, they were the Harpoons out of Tube 3. I have the video rendering now since FRAPS did like 7 "chapters", so, I'm stitching them together. The harpoon destroyed the center section of the flat-top and within 90 seconds or so, the other four were burning.

That's one of the effects of that mod. "Realistic damage" and supposed to be realistic sinking, meaning that the incredible damage would sink that one in minutes and leave the other three to sink slower. The actual time of the video was closer to 16 minutes, but, the video render program had some issues and kept crashing. Suffice it to say that all four vessels sank at about the same time.
And the "ghost ship" is in a couple of scenerios. It's a Yama****a Freighter and whatever I try, fails. There's no collision routine for it, apparently since it cannot be hit. Torpodoes to straigh through, shelling has no effect and ramming it also is ignored, so the only option is to flip it the finger, tell it to bite my glorious golden tuchus and leave.
At least that's better then when I try to sink a Fuso battleship...that gives me a Crash to Desktop. Tends to ruin my day. I can sink other battleships without a problem, but, soon as the game knows that a Fuso is supposed to sink, I get the finger and the bite me line. :/\\!! But, that's for another thread, as I do not wish to hijack this one.
(I see the board owners have filters set up...*sigh*)

It's inconsistent. Sometimes I'm well out of range and all of a sudden...BOOM! I'm on the way to the bottom and other times, the targets sink and I'm fine.

I have had that happen, they set off when they hit anything. if there is a half sunken ship they hit it, if there are lifeboats in the way, they hit those, water is too shallow, it hits the bottom. (I know it LOOKS like it's in the air but it's not)

Oh, I know about the lifeboats in the way and the half-sunken ships, especially when the AI puts the target boat behind the ship already sinking. It like "Well, that's ship's lost, might as well fool this inbound torpedo into this other ship and hope the shock wave doesn't get us!"

Hey Guys! First my repect for that awesome Mod Yamato and the rest of the modding team I love to command this sub:yeah: ! But I have some questions: First I have the 0.75 beta version of the sub mod, is there a later one and can someone post a dlink ?
Second, I try to raise the radar masts but I didi't find any key or sign for it, I'd download the commands mod Yamato posted a while ago but I see no difference :hmmm:, can someone post the key or a way to raise them ?

I have had several PM's about my screenshots i posted sometime ago with a different paint scheme. If you guys want i can upload it so you can add it with your existing typhoon.
Also about the crew page it is really bugged since i copied several compartements other then that it looks good i serves no real purpose sadly.
I did edit the periscope so you can zoom 64 times :)

I have been silent for so long because of RL. also, I dropped the project/concept after I encountered several notable depthkeeping problems and different ballast flood speeds did not help. in fact, I remember at one point in order to maintain good depthkeeping I had to make the flood speed lower than it was originally, which made the sub take 1.5 hours to submerge. RL kicked me in the balls also, so i've been on silent running for about a year now. sorry for the confusion.

is it wierd that version 0.1 seems to work better for me than ver 0.75? cause i still run ver 0.1 aaand its still working great. only issue is it wont resupply the guided torps (at least in base).

you do know this thing is (when submerged) roughly the weight of a ww2 aircraft carrier right? it takes about this amount of time to submerge in real life. this thing is absurdly huge.

Sadly this is not an issue within the mod but how the engine handles it.
Most likely you were submerged when you saved the game.
A solution is surfacing, saving then loading it again.
And the dive planes work again. :up:

I'm sorry for digging this up but when I took the range when using this submarine mod, the game crashed. here is further information:
- Silent Hunter 4 V1.2
- Windows 8.1 Pro x64, running the game in Windows XP SP2 compatibility, administrator privilege
- System specs: Core i7 4720HQ, Nvidia GTX 970M 3GB GDDR5, 8GB DDR3 RAM

Just about all mods are for v1.5. If you're running v1.2 just about every mod you load will crash your game. You need to update badly!

quick question...i see in some youtube videos, people going from the watch tower on the sail of the typhoon down a few step to where the windows are. are they using a free cam mod or am i missing something here? Thanks for your awesome work JH.

you have to acquire one (1) target, open tube (or tubes) 7-14 for missiles,
and 1-6 for torpedoes. and FIRE AWAY!
(and watch the fireworks! :rotfl2:)
or: if you prefer manual TDC, dont use the periscope and use the hydrophone/attack map for a nuke boat feel!
i will release a new file that will allow you to fire missiles at 100 meters down!
Note: the torpedoes the sub gets HAVE NOT been implemented into the US campaign yet... ill work on that later... atleast you get nuke reloads though! :yeah:
when i installed it i didnt get the russian fish or the nukes but the sub works fine but i also cant fire the default fish from the game is there somthing im missing?

You gotta be on 1.5 and have Uboat missions. to fire the ICBMs you have to open the tubes and wait for them to be fully open before you can fire, default key is Q. Asfor the career, make sure no other mods are active and its under the 1941 start year and you have to select ComsubGuru as your starting location.
