Magnum Opus v0.0.1 (BETA version for testing/feedback purposes)
This mod is a compilation of the 'great work' of SH5.
To install:
Unzip to desktop and open folder. Open folder 'MODS'. Copy folder 'Magnum_Opus_vx_x_x' to your \Silent Hunter 5\MODS folder. Enable via JSGME.
NOTE: if you want to install a scope mod then open the folder 'Magnum_Opus_Scopes (do not enable - read)' and read the text file 'How_to_enable_a_scope_mod'
Magnum Opus consists of mods from the following authors:
TheDarkWraith, W_Clear, Sober, Conus00, SteelViking, ddrgn, Arclight, Trevally, Krauter, Abd_von_Mumit, Oby, Vickers03, Heretic, Athlonic, stoianm, thfeu58, avee, Cerberus62, Ailantd, KarlKoch, Heretic, ACSoft, Magnum, Vikinger, Makman94, toniloCoyote, Illyustrator

Realize that I have to edit some of these mods to make them compatible with the others. I also have edited some of them to my liking thus they may appear just slightly different from their stand-alone mod.
For those wanting to increase the difficulty you'll need to enable the add-on mods from my UIs mod (real navigation, no contact colors, no contact tails, etc.). Although it is setup for the complete beginner to use the AI difficulty might be too much for the beginner. You can adjust the AI difficulty by editing the following file \data\Scripts\AI\init.aix.
I find great enjoyment using it as it is now. It's a challenge to play and all the visual enhancements are awesome to look at on screen :D
What other mods do you all recommend I look into for this? :hmmm:
Current bugs/problems:
- Oil slicks might be standing on end for some users. Not sure why this is happening either (from FX Update part of mod)

NOTE: this is a BETA version for testing and feedback purposes!
Patch 2 (EVERYONE needs this patch even those just downloading the mod for the first time!): http://www.filefront.com/17773690/Magnum-Opus-v0-0-1-Patch-2.7z/
Patch 2 is to be installed IN PORT only! To avoid CTDs: after applying the patch start the game and load career. When in bunker save career. Exit game. Restart game. Continue playing :DL
Patch 2 fixes the following bugs/problems and adds the following:
- fixed problem of missing dialog items in crew dialog boxes
- added Heretic's less annoying footsteps
- fixed bug of not being able to move mission map when requesting new mission after returning from previous mission
- fixed bug of timers not working correctly after requesting new mission after returning from previous mission
- fixed some other errors dealing with campaign
- fixed bug of TAI map, heading bar, and messagebox not starting in expanded modes if set in user options in campaign mode
- fixed bug of messagebox not remembering it's status (expanded or collapsed) when TC level causes it to change state
- added the ability for ships to send out radio messages when they have spotted a sub/periscope
- added the ability for ships to send out radio messages when they are destroyed/sinking
- added a new user option that specifies the maximum distance at which a ship can start looking for you for purposes of firing off a radio message. Default value is 8000m (RangeShipSendingSubSightedMessage)
- updated scope mods with information/files from Trevally and toniloCoyote

Note: if you are upgrading from a previous version of the mod or are applying a patch that changes the user options file then don't forget to use the OptionsMigrater app to migrate your old options file to your new options file (\data\Applications)

I just thought i would get in early as this thread will eventually reach over hundreds of pages . Would the mega mod be split into 2 parts . 1 part for data and 1 part for sounds . That way you dont have to download a huge sound file everytime something is changed in the data file .

A note to all: please include the authors name of the mod when recommending a mod of theirs. A link to the mod would be handy also.
I have to verify the mod in question doesn't conflict with anything. If it does then I have to figure out how to make it compatible with everything else.

Stormys DBSM SH5 v1.2 MFCM Basemod is one of the best mods IMHO. Great speech, especially when you give the order to man the guns and when a torp hits a ship.:rock:

Unusual, I have been using ACSoft's tga and TC up to 512 without any problems, not that I've played that often, maybe it's a combo of 2 mods or something?:hmmm:

Great idea DW, I miss a GWX kind of Mega mod for SH5. :up:
There is a HUGE battle over the .sim files in SH5 mods. Every time I make a mod update is a huge pita to install them. Poor UHS is always hit by the most recent mods.. IRAI, Enviro mod then FXupdate will alter one after another these files. Wonder what's so big interest in the .sim file that almost every mod will hit it?
If there would be a mega mod, wish that there would be a common .sim file for all mods. Is the most worked file in SH5 .... I really dont know anymore which mod to install last to have a good .sim file :damn:

I've been compiling a mega-mod for SH5 the last couple of months. Ensuring everything is compatible with everything else has been the hardest challenge so far. Now that it appears the environment 4.0 mod has been fixed by ACSoft's tga fix I can finally 'write' about this.
I don't have a name for it yet - hoping you all can help me 'name' this mega-mod.
May be I could recommend a suitable name for your Mega-Mod: How about

how does installing it by JSGME sound? That's pretty user friendly to me :DL
I might be releasing a beta version of it soon just so it can be tested out for compatibility sake. Everything seems to be 'playing' well for me so far but the more people that use it the more any bugs/incompatibilites can be worked out. Waiting on a couple more permissions before I can do this.

Just updated the mega-mod with Environment 4.1 and found a problem with it. Posted in W_Clear's environment thread. Fell back to using Environment 4.0. Just testing all the newest additions to the mega-mod:

Some facts about the mod as of now:
- the core mod without sound is 1.10GB :o (compressed with 7zip at maximum is 220MB)
- the sound part of it is 886MB (compressed with 7zip at maximum is 536MB)
so total, so far, we're looking at 2GB of changes/fixes/additions :rock:

Due to the amount of changes made to the files I would say yes but I'm not sure. Someone will have to test that out and see what happens.

How do you guys get on with that "bar" style compass?
I find it a little awkward, myself. Takes too many clicks to bring the boat around 180deg.
At least with the dial, it was 1 click, and get on with what you were doing. (although the dial does take up more screen space.)

I can report that I was able to reload and run a career saved after installing the mega mod/ without sound component.
Also:
Deck Officer Dialog Panel (surfaced)
Items 3-5 are blank of text
They work however.
#3 and secondary panel work well.
#4 2nd panel works well
#5 2nd panel items 1 and 2 are blank but work fine.
All secondary commands on these panels work fine.
Note about career loaded, it was saved just after leaving harbour and I had many of the mods included anyway then. It may not load your career or if you had different mods or lots of 'action' in the career. Try it and report.

Wow! That is just fantastic! :salute: So I will give another try when u release your mod! My question for now is: How do you see the chances of a "Full game" with all U-Boats included and a 39-45 campaign!? Is that possible at all!? And how about Ubisoft don't they work on this anymore!?:-? Sry for asking but haven't been following the newest developments for longer time cos I was too disappointed. Working on the blank options dialog problem.
The range at current speed (or the ones) won't work unless you have waypoints on your map. This reminds me that I need to disable them when you have no waypoints on your map. This is something I've been meaning to do in my UIs mod but keep forgetting about it :oops:

The Automation problem is strange. I have no problems with it closing using the X :hmmm:
Try running your game with Admin rights (right click SH5 icon and select RunAs-->Administrator).
I sent you and the other tester patch 1 for FSM :up:
What do you recommend to replace the stock morale scheme?
I'm toying around the idea of removing the speech bubbles and highlight. Reason I haven't done it is because new users of the game will find this very useful until they are familiar with the game.

The automation panel works and the scripts run. It can be closed with the gear icon, but not the little X in the panel.
I suggest the NoMorale mod because I think the way the game uses it is all wrong. No crew member would ever refuse an order from the Captain. I'd rather have no morale than stupid morale problems.
Regarding bubbles and highlights around crew to speak to, I think that by the time a new user gets to your mod, they will have guessed which of the five or six crew can interact. It is just plain silly to the rest of the world.
You could include some optional mods in the mega, for those with different tastes.

After the patch, still able to run campaign without start over.
Automation panel will now close using the X and without admin start.
Blank dialog panel items are now filled in and working.
Depth under keel now includes report of depth.
Ships journal buttons do not function (to enter text load save etc)
Main Menu question about log close when exiting to main menu, clicking on 'Yes' button doesn't work but sounds clicked. Need to use Enter Key
F1 keyboard help display too wide on screen.

Try again from my bridge station using 'T' got Python error. could not capture screen. Write attempt to protected memory involking raise left button mouse StaticBitmapsArray, Leave_Action_station...
Tried again from inside conning tower = works fine.
Inside Bridge station. click on officer standing extreme left (don't know name)
Dialogue panel shows white squares beside top three choices.
Tried to take screen shot of this and game crashed to desktop.

The patch info mentioned fatigue, how implemented? How tested?
'Z' key caused both Silent Running and then Secure from it immediately.
'Z' key not shown on F1 keyboard image
Shallow water report is too frequent, roughly every 90 seconds.
Crash dive button (left panel) flashes and teleport happens but no dive.
Crash dive works if use 'V' key but speed doesn't rise to max.
Current depth does not hold depth but slowly rises.
Emerg Surface causes planesmen to run up conning tower immediately and
they are on bridge when sub reaches surface. (early)
(all in career mode)

Some facts about the mod as of now:
- the core mod without sound is 1.10GB :o (compressed with 7zip at maximum is 220MB)
- the sound part of it is 886MB (compressed with 7zip at maximum is 536MB)
so total, so far, we're looking at 2GB of changes/fixes/additions :rock:

Ahh..damn, and I just spent 2 hours of removing all of my mods, a fresh re-install of sh5 and re-install pretty much all of the mods included in this mega mod..haha, ah well I keep getting my mod soup order incorrect or overwriting files etc, so hopefully when this is released I can just install this mod and that's it, nice and simple..
Will this be simple to install? Or will there be a bit of modifying to aswell?

To be fair, the world "wolf", either in singular, or plural form, has become a bit too cliche nowadays. For example, "SH4: Wolves of the pacific". Really? My point is, the word has become overused. So i can understand the want to avoid that word. The rest of it, i'll stay out of.
Now, my honest suggestion to TDW, is to find a name that fits the theme of the mod. Whatever that theme may be. Only you, the compiling author, really knows what it is.
It's my belief that all super mods have a theme. Even if its to fix just broken items and nothing more, because even just fixes only, is a theme in and of itself.

Not very good I know but maybe there is some inspiration to be found there. I bought SH5 yesterday after holding out for a long while, and looking at the lists of mods people have enabled is a little daunting to say the least. I am very much looking forward to the release of this mod, all the best to TheDarkWraith and to everybody else who is contributing. :salute:

SH5 Finally Made Playable or just SH5 FMP.
I like the non-roleplaying names more, as they are more straightforward and descriptive. Names like "Wolves of the Whatever" or "Whatever of the Atlantik" don't say anything about what this mega-mod is or what it does. German translations would be even worse. None of them would also be much searchable on SubSim.
I also like these suggestions:

For Darkwraith
I'm getting crashes when using obs scope only when running a mission (pq17) but not in campaign.
Cannot get screen shot as game is hung. Screen isn't blank but all panels are solid colours and interior of sub goes black. When I alt-tab out, it crashes.
This has happened six times but only in missions,never in campaign.
Also
Obs Scope (in campaign) Shift-pgDn = sound only scope doesn't move
just PgDn is the same, sound and no movement.
Using the lower scope button on extreme upper left of screen works, but no sound effect of scope moving.
Same effect surfaced or submerged.
Attk scope:
Don't know if intended but clicking on scope doesn't raise it. You have to use buttons to raise it. Shift-insert and insert work fine. Shift-Del and Del key works fine, You have to hit Esc key to exit periscope views.
I never got to use scope in the missions, it crashed upon up scope.

My request is that the mega mod not contain any user interface changes. I have gotten so used to the original UI, that I have found it difficult to move to UI boat mod, and keep reverting back.

the base of the mega-mod is my UIs mod. Using SH5Enhanced style will keep your familiarity with the stock UI.
will there be a possibility to disable mods you do not need? ... flag mod, uis?
You can also use the ui mod boot, without having to sacrifice the rest of mods?
It would be a shame so much work only for its own claim to mod ...
Do not get me wrong, but now there are several things in it which I need not personally ... my computer and my monitor shakes unfortunately this seems overloaded completely ... I think less is more ..:cry:

Really looking forward to this mod - seems there are so many mods required just to make the game playable its almost like you need pot luck to get the mods in the right order to get the affect the modder was trying for
I'm still finding the enemy surface and aircraft AI is no challenge, I have never experienced a prolonged depth charge attack - invariably the escorts seem to go somewhere a little way off, usually where my sub is not, they sail around for a while occasionally dripping a depth charge, they never seem to get a wiff of me, and if they do the loose it right away - Most times I usually go deep, speed up the game and bugger off in a streight line.
All of this is starting to get a bit boring, or as I have said already perhaps I've simply got some of my mods in the wrong order so I am not actually seeing what other folks are seeing. I've copied my activated mods below and indicated where there is a clash in Red
