Ive noticed sometimes during a mission an escort will appear detected on
hydrophones but out of visual contact and seems to follow my sub.
it seems to remain at a constant distance , if i try to aproach it moves away staying out of visual range and wont go away. Has any one else had this problem , is it a bug ? is there a fix ?
ive listed my current mods in case of a conflict they are listed in order of install.

Yes. It is annoying he keeps spinning round and round following me until he eventually disappears.:o

this makes me wonder....is this a friendly escort or an enemy escort? I ask because I've seen some things in the files that suggest an escort might be assigned to 'protect' you...like a wingman of sorts...:hmmm:

I have had both friendly and enemy do this.

Same here, but mostly enemy DDs.
Enemy for me, exactly as it was before patch 1.2.
I thought IRAI cause that.. I have none of the mod listed by the OP except UHS.

Happened to me in Vanilla, WITHOUT mods. 2 DD's kept following me for 6 days like this.. and then they suddenly came closer and killed me, while i was in 4000x time compression. :nope:

That was corrected in the patch 1.2. Somehow, one of the mods reinvented again that bug :DL
It is always an enemy for me, maybe I wasn't looking for them. I call them "doodle bugs" and I have never gotten them to react to me, even if I head towards them at high speed, they just whirl around and keep thier distance.

Personally, I never noticed such things...I run sh5 1.2.

It is one of bugs the developer did, you can sink the escorts by operating close to the coast and let them run aground:rotfl2:

Anyone know if this ghost thing is persistent or if it goes away by itself afer awhile?
I've never had it before, but all of a sudden on a new patrol I have it picking up via sonarman/hydrophone, but zilch when I listen, but just also had it as reported visual contact ... zilch there.
Any idea as to cause? Corrupted save?
Recommendations to get rid of it? Restart patrol?
Only Save/Load solve the bug. Difference to the old stock bug is that now they will stop near shore. So you cant glue 10 or more DD's and run them ashore.
What I observed so far was that this happens when a convoy or a task force pass at the hydrophone or radar range. Is then when one of the escort ship gets interested in the sub and come to investigate, but near the visual range he loose contact and gets into an endless circling loop. I tend to suspect IRAI doing this as is the only mod that deal with the AI but I cant be 100% sure about that.

I've had this happen a few times with stock version and 1.2 patch, before i had added any mods.
Guessing the patch didn't solve this problem.
Has also happened once since modding.
Don't think its mod related, it's a stock bug lurking in the depth's:o
I've not delved into the files, this is just my own conclusion of what I've experienced during game.:hmmm:

I had this problem before adding any mods - on version 1.2. I've continued to have it after adding mods, but this time the ghost eventually came closer and sank me while my TC was on...
