Thought it was about time we had a SH5 version of a old favourite SH3 thread.

 Will try to remember to resize in future.

Photoshop can get that down to 700k or so by dropping to Medium Quality, you'll only lose a small amount of detail and color surprisingly. Resizing to 1024 can get you down to 300k. Personally I like the high rez shots. :)

SabreHawk
03-31-10, 05:15 PM
I use photobucket for all my online posted pics, and it has it's own editing function as well as a host of other things.
Resizing is a 5 second operation once the shot is uploaded and I always resize to 800x600 for posting on forums. And in this way it doesn't come out so wide that folks have to scroll left to right and up and down to view the entire image, and even then only seeing a small prtion of it at one time.
In fact it keeps the post to the same width as the rest and fits the screen.
Luckily on this forum a large image doesn't force all the post's on that same page to go that wide, only the post with the image gets stretched unlike some other forums which would cause the entire page to stretch and then one has to scroll left to right to read others posts untill the next page.

What did you use to get the streaks/creases on your photo? I've been looking for a good filter or something to do that.

Yea it a Hawker in front of a B-24. Both Hawker and B-24 Cockpit come from real photos across Internet and both planes still fly (that what they ve been doing in the original photos) :)

That shot is especially beautiful to me, for a couple of reasons.

1. Not all actual WW2 photos are grainy and scratched-looking. Some of them are exceptionally crisp and clear, and yours looks very real in that respect.

2. That doesn't work so well with SH3, since the clearer it is the more obvious that it's from a game. SH5 is so much better in that respect that your shot really does look like an original photograph.

I love it!

Here is one that I did just using a screen-shot by Kylania from the regualr photo thread. I don't have the game, YET!, but the graphics and photos are making my try my hand with the microsoft photo-album, picture marker, wish-I-was-photoshop.

All I did was place it in black and white, and threw the contrast way up. This was originally a twilight pic.

I've been having fun asking friends to date this photo. They are baffled when I tell them it wasn't taken in 1942.Page of the original pic.

Which app is the best to use? And user-friendly?

Nice screen Gunfighter :yeah: , Silent Hunter 5 is the first of the Silent Hunter serie with the water weaves in three dimension , and this is NOT the only improvement over the older versions of this serie , walking all along the interior " and the exterior " of the sub , Full Dynamic Shadows, animated water flooding inside the compartements ,working engine arms ,etc etc etc and even the hot soup inside the kitchen, yes I know SH5 is not yet perfect but for 20 bucks we cannot get the Whole Earth and also the Moon

Hans, those look great. I like in the second one that you can make out the silhouette of your sub and the periscope just barely above the water.

Because we already have a picture and video thread stickied. If we stickied every thread that someone suggested, the forum would be nothing but stickies.

First thank You for reply I am aware you cannot sticky every Thread but it is very popular and has had over 20,000 hits alot more than some threads that are stickied and I think a Relistic Photo Thread is completly different to Photo N Video Thread besides that they dont like us posting Edited photos or screenShots in that thread. so I ask again please could we have Relistic Photo Thread stickied.I am sure the rest of the Guys that post here would want it.Or could you have a word with Neil:06:

I think I pointed out many pages earlier that the SH3 Realistic Photo thread has never been stickied, and yet manages to hold its own. As long as people keep posting here the thread should be fine. :sunny:

That's true Gunfighter....if the thread remains popular it'll maintain its prominence on merit just like that of the SH3 thread.

@mr chris glad to see you back in UK as you can see I've been tring to get this thread stickied but the guys recon it should be OK if we keep posting to it.

[501]Otto, your pics are awesome. The textures you used to make your screenshots look aged/scratched/worn are just amazing. Do you just photoshop it or is there another program you use?

mr chris

I have to agree with Steve and Jim.
The SH3 thread was always on the front page. If this thread continues to be as popular as it has been you will be able to find it easy enough without a sticky.

Keep up the great shots guys.

Nice, although it's sad to see they haven't really bothered with historical accuracy.

The first production Spit with a bubble-canopy, a MK XIV, was delivered in December 1944. The first prototype with this feature, a MK VIII, flew in September 1943. The squadron most likely to carry the id-letters VZ during the SH5 timeframe, No. 412 squadron of the RCAF (http://rcaf.com/Squadrons/squadronDetail.php?No.-412-Squadron-71), probably received it's first bubble-canopy Spits when they received MK XVIs in May 1945.

Thx.... and, yes, it is a mixture of Photoshop and another program, one quite simple to use. It´s called PhotoScape, once you have your pic "modified" with photoshop, use the other program; under filters you can find one that makes your pics look old (at different degrees). IMO it is better to apply low degrees several times than using a higher one once, makes it more realistic and clear.

I thought this as well but assumed that the Spit had been shopped on. Is it an in game shot then?
