Hi to you - I'm no modder, not skilled or clever enough but thoise who are seem to be making some progress with turning SH5 into a vialble game - despite the best efforts of Ubisoft I may add
Any way I remeber in SH3 there was a mod that accurately portrayed the twisty loop thingy round the length of perescopes which were used to disperse the tell-tale perescope bow-wave when submerged - is any one able to confirm if this can be done in SH5
And while we are about it - so much effort was spent on getting the Radio Loop to raise in SH3 - is any one looking into repeating this in SH5 - not to mention radar when or if we ever get one -
By the way I'm playing arounf mid 1941 - I have a heap of points but have not seen any new subs or upgrades for a while - I know the game centres on the Type 7 - are there any other upgrades to look forward to apart from a single conning tower upgrade and some new AA guns - or is that all you get
Regards
R

i believe the obs scope has one twisty tethered around it you can see in the control room. but thats it.

Attack scope was the one that had the disruption wire around it.
I'd like to see the round antenna working again a' la' GWX too.

What are you talking about? It should only be visable on the outside.

Once more for the slow ones - On my game there is no disrupter coil, you cannot see it on either scope inside or out. OK
SO the question remains is there a way to get these in the game FOR THOSE OF US WHO DONT HAVE THEM IN THE GAME and while were about it has any one worked out how to raise the radio loop arial

Bump once for a must have feature. You would think that they would at least have the radio loop up and turning after all.
I mean geeb-us, I can not mod anything like that and get tired of asking others to do it.
I appreciate everything, but after a while I feel guilty for all the hard work you guys put in fixing stuff, that in my mind should be in the game not as extras but as must have inorder for it to even be considered realistic.
Imagine a train sim being released and the locomotives don't puff smoke, or have a whistle ?
So once again Hats off to you guys. ( insert a serious salute here )
Also, a side note, where's the Biscay Cross ? I have seen some posted pics with it, but have not found the mod for it, is it actually in game ?

This is very simple to mod. First, open up the SNS file in each submarine's folder (/Data/Submarine/NSS_***). You will see two lines in there for the periscopes:
LinkName=atack_periscop,data\Objects\Sensors\UBoot _Sensors
and
LinkName=obs_periscop,data\Objects\Sensors\UBoot_S ensors
Change atack_periscop to atack_periscop_wire and obs_periscop to obs_periscop_wire. That's all there is to it.

Was it only the attack scope that had this feature or did the obs too? I took a quick peek online and in my VII sub book, and only found pictures of attack scopes with it.
I made up a real quick mod with all the attack scopes changed, but if the obs scopes should have it I can add that too. All thanks to RFB's find of course. :)

Yes, this is something I'm not sure about. I have seen one photo in which the caption claims the periscope pictured with the wires is the observation one, but the angle at which the shot was taken makes this conclusion a shaky one. I'm going to keep looking to see if I can find more conclusive evidence.

Why thank you have added the required editing will see if this works
Interesting to note there is also an entry for the radio direction ariel, see below so does this mean there is a way to activate it or raise and lower it or have it raise and lower automatically when surfaced or submerged - any one know the answer

is it possible that this was not left out of the game
but is a upgrade you get later, and it will make the
scope harder to spot....does anyone know for sure?
i really wouldn't want to mod something that is a game
feature.....but if it was left out.....thanks

Err - well as I started the thread I thought I might have some leeway to stray from topic - and seeing as you've very cleverly discovered a way to solve the issue - I did the required edits last night and they work!
So the issue with the wires is kind of solved so I thought it would be good to move on to the next obious question ie the radio direction loop
Do you know if there would be a simple solution re the direction loop

I think the question is can you "deploy" or "raise" it, as in here:
http://www.uboat.net/photos/u67.jpg
Should it rotate too? This pic seems to indicate that:

Yes, it should rotate.
They managed it in SH3 to have it up and rotating... a super cool detail.
I'm sure it's possible in SH5, just no idea how.
Getting the DF loop to animate shouldn't be hard to do, in theory. If someone else doesn't take a stab at it I'll take a look (after the patch is released).

Its only the attack scope that had the twisted thingy. Just read u-boat war patrol. It features a page that cleary shows (and also writen) That only the attack scope featured this to reduce the periscope wake by sucking the wake into the water a bit . But since the observation scope was only used in bad weather or night-time and thus the wake would make no differance it would not need the thingy.

You should be able to add the Watchman controller or maybe the
GenericAxisRotation Controller with Goblin.
You'll also need to add the obj_extensible controller.
Only the square Radars have this in the sim.

Here's a picture that clearly shows the Twisty on both scopes.

I thought someone would actually have to make it for a mod. If it's already there but turned off I'm guessing that the first boats didn't have them, and it was a later addition.
If that's true then we need to find out exactly when they were installed, so we can put them in at the right time.
Great fix for the "twisty-turny-thing". I'm about to edit and try it for myself.
BTW, according to one of my books (U-Boats Under the Swastika - Showell, p32) "The wires around the periscope were supposed to have added additional stability by spiralling the flow of water around it".
Thanks for the headsup!
Installed on my attack scope.
Looks good
Thanks
:yeah:
It seems that at least it wasn't in the observation scope of the Type VIIC, but as Privateer showed, it certainly was in the XXI. Probably it simply depended on the model of periscope installed, or was later added as general feature.

I've also got a picture of an IXB showing the observation scope with this.
This is the U-106, Type IXB
Picture was taken sometime between September 1940-October 1941
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n12/privateer_2006/U-106.jpg
U-875 and U-805 which were both Type IX D2 also show this on both scopes at wars end.
A picture of U-79, a Type VIIC, may have this on both scopes also.
But it's not a good enuff picture to say for sure as the top of the scope is cut off.
And the picture is taken from the front looking back at the Turm.
So even it's postion in the Turm is uncertain.

Negative. You are misinformed . What it shows (in the pictue) is the attack scope extened. The the obs scope is always to the front in u-boats. It seems to me that judging from the tower it actually is a type VIIC.

You better check Blueprints for the type IX boats.
:03:
The Observation scope is NOT at the front of the Turm.
:DL
And if you check the Emblem?
That's a dead giveaway of which U-Boat it is.

The wired observation periscope is lower than the normal one. That results in seeing underwater at maximum height...Tried on my VIIA boat:D

I cant understand why they just didnt put this into the game, But then I'm only a simple soldier and cant fathom vastness of the marketing mind.
I also heard that UBI got slated for this carry on, Having all this stuff in game then realsing it as "Downloadable content"..............No proof, So I might be wrong.
