View Full Version : [WIP] S-100 Schnellboot (S-Boot)

Just some WIP shots of my S-100 Schnellboot.

Will take some time before its finished. As stated in another thread, I'm still waiting on some plans I bought.

The whole hull is just a placeholder - I'll replace it once I get my hands on the drawings.

Hm, now that the interior and exterior models in SHV are one, I could really see a very cool playable Schnellboot mod coming down the pipe sometime where you could really play captain on deck. Had a blast with Mikhayl's Schnellboot in SHIII.

Keep at it! :)

Very nice work!

Now to get an importer working!
The Granny files are a PITA to say the very lest!
:nope:

How this Game can be considered very moddable without
an import funtion for new Units is beyound me!

And we all know they have the software!

:yeah:!

We need lots of new ships big and small, from fishing boats and land-based artillery to destroyers, and this is a great first step.

+1 I was kind of disapointed with the lack of craft in this edition.

As I have no idea of how to get this thing into the game, I surely hope someone will have mercy and is going to help me. Although this is still some time away...

Researching all the weapons will be a pain - not to mention the wheelhouse.
Maybe I'm going to pass on this. Should be possible to use speaking tubes only.
Hell - it's even prototypical :D

Some nice ideas for the future (not that I know what I'm talking about):

ability to lay mines (as a mission)
deploy smoke screens (no idea if the AI can be affected by something like this)
command multiple boots via some simple command menu
water bombs for attacking subs (ok, a nice british corvette would come handy here instead of such a vessel)
search and rescue missions of downed pilots
*sigh*

Time will tell...

Cheers

There's only one way to get new Units in Game so far.
And that is if the Dev's do it.

There are a good number of us working at Imports.
But one of the BIGGEST things hindering us?

The Granny files!
Those are and have been a Nightmare to many Game Modders for
quit a long time now.

I understand why Ubi went with Granny.
It's a fantastic Dev and Game system!

But to make a highly Moddable Game,
as was claimed?
Why deny us the ability to import new Units right from the get go?
:hmmm:

Maybe there is a seperate License fee from RAD Games
to give us that feature.

And Ubi wants to make money before releaseing a tool add-on like that?

Of course, how else could they charge us for DLC when great modders can make more and better ones for free.

Looking for "Vosper MTB" in Google gives you a lot of material to work with.

e.g. http://warshipsww2.eu/lode.php?language=E&period=&idtrida=829&tridit=nazev&zobraz=A

Although I don't know if that is the correct MTB you are looking for.

A counterpart for the S-Boot would be awesome! :DL

Speaking of counterparts...

I'd like to do a small British subhunter after finishing the S-Boot. I just don't know, if all this is worth the work. Afterall one will have to add player controlled depth charges et all. I don't think this is possile in SH5. Still an awesome thought...

Cheers

Ding, Ding, Ding!!

BINGO!

...Thus the REAL reason for the DRM/OSP. Ubisoft likely considers any modder who creates free add-on units as a threat to thier income stream, and thus no better to their bottom line (add-on sales) than pirates.

Do not hold your breath for a Granny importer coming from Ubi anytime soon,...if ever.

No thats the Fairmile but an equally important MTB that hasnt been modelled up to now in previous versions
Well worth having ingame

Only the ASW trawer used in that capacity and thats ingame already tho not as a playable unit
Of course other units hunted subs - the usual corvettes\destroyers etc and Frigates after mid 43

Might be worth trying importers/exporters on this page:
http://gr2decode.altervista.org/download.html

They are 3dsmax plugins for custom content in Neverwinter Nights 2.
The file type suffix is gr2, which is what SH5 uses. It's probably a long shot, though.

@OP

I wonder, what is the polygon budget for this modell? Surely you are not making a model with 1.000.000 triangles? :hmmm:

http://www.cs-graphix.de/galleries/s100-06.jpg

Some more work on the bridge section (plus finished the covering of the wheelhouse windows on the front).

Still waiting for my ordered drawings... :-?

Deco, don't worry! The boat, as of yet not optimized, will be far less than 1.000.000 triangles. Most of the detail stuff is in there now.

Remember: The bridge section has to be more detailed because of the player standing there all the time.

I guess the guns will add some more polys though... :D

Lots of research went into this project so far.
Should have started doing some simple bridge for an ingame surface vessel...

Cheers!

if you don't have one already, we must find you a mate, let you reproduce and use your children to pass on your genetic knowledge. wait. let's just clone you. up to five. this will speed up things.

Yeah, the smaller ones were nice, too. But the so-called Kalottenboote had this special look. Sleak and mean, you know? :D

The engine room looks quite spacious. I thought it was more cramped down there.

Hey, I'm currently single - so if you know some girl around this forum... :har:

Back to the topic:
Did some work on the rear deck. Mostly life rafts and small stuff nobody is ever going to notice.
I'm currently trying to get hold of the rear part of the boat, smoke generators et all. I think I added some too simplified cylindrical geometry there.

BTW. Anyone here who has read 'A Prayer for the Ship'? Just found it and started to read. It's about MTBs around GB's east coast (more like a short novell).

Oh, and a pic for being so patient. ;)

im not surprised, ubi claimed this was the most moddable game yet

but you cant even add new units to it so i guess its only moddable for some things because it seams you cant add new ships unless you have the special restricted access needed to do so :damn:

everything about this game has been a let down but the modders will do what they can with the limited moddablity there is

When switching to the Granny System things did not work as planned is my guess.
Even the patch to allow .dats don't work as it was thought they would.
Useing the Type XIV as a prototype I learned alot.
But it was not good enuff at the time.
I have learned abit more that may prove out sooner or later.
And wonders of wonders?
It comes from information on other Games forums!
Games I do not play but use the same Rules in some way.
I'm 80% sure of the issues I'm looking at.
