Has anyone made a mod that removes awareness zones on the map yet? Seeing a stupid grey circle to indicate view range, or yellow "Pacman" to show hydrophone range for destroyers, is just ridiculous. Correctly judging how close you can sneak up on a ship before she spots you is something you should have to learn from experience, not get spoon-fed to you by the map:-?.

Oh, and awareness zones seem to be way, way too small, but I've downloaded the Harder AI mod now and I'll see if it fixes the problem.

Easy. Turn off the arcade map contacts. :)

Yeah, but that removes icons altogether, does it not?

Yes, it does. :D You don't mean to tell me you want a magic map with real time icons, do you?

(Jus' kidding you. I have been using them in the last two patrols, to test the time compression crashing bug).

Oh how I would dearly love discover how to get rid of that grey shaded zone and the absolutely embarrassing PAC-Man.

I've left map updates on only because without a decent Satdimeter it's a pain in the butt getting dependable ranges to work with. The WO's estimates to target were reasonably accurate but because the Stadimeter is CRAP I'm sticking with updates on for now. Using a mark, time, mark system and an AOB calculator I'm having very, very few misses at all. I tried the "join the dots" system on the tutorial but it's almost as embarrassing as Pac-Man so that was it's one and only time as far as I'm concerned. I guess all those hundreds of hours on SH3 with MaGui weren't wasted at all.

been rooting around a bit and and seen in the script editor one of the globals is a CthreatZone_wrap that seems to be the cuplrit
the bools are on when youre on patrol and looking at the map(actually I have no idea if they do actually update themselves)
doesnt seem to be any way of changing the global and im beginning to grasp at straws, so I better go to bed before i have to copy/paste my backup data folder.....again....today....

bah now i think that has nothing to do with the pacman....

No one's busted a cap in Pacman's ass yet....damn.

Might not be as complicated as scripting, there could be parameters in a .CFG file somewhere.

I had initally thought the quick and dirty solution was to find the offending graphic file and alpha-channel it out of existence, but I believe they're in .SHP files which are 3d editing software files.

How do you the get the WO to estimate range? Do you mean the prepopulated range in the TDC? Because that's always 500m for me.

While we're at it, there really should be a realism option to keep the game from showing where ships are going to be in the future when you draw waypoints, too. I liked it much better when I had to estimate it in GWX.
