Hell the interior, the moder's can't even get the exterior of a 688 right. Very few have even seen the inside of a "modern" sub and the kneeknocker AFT is classified (ie engine room) no way of getting around that.

well i think its more of a question of the effort. its a lot of work to do an accurate interior (ask Tomi) and you need a lot of skill to do so.i dont blame them for not making and "accurate interior" they have other things to be doing other than their hobby sometimes.

May I ask you what is incorrect about the exterior of the 688 mod?

I think the trouble with building modern subs for Silent Hunter is that you really need a whole game to use it in; for me, tearing around the ocean at 30+ kts blowing up everything in sight would only be fun for a few minutes.
However, I do think it would be cool if someone (or a group of someones) put together one or two modern boats. Hell, how about some early Cold War boats like the Nautilus or Skate? There's plenty of photos of those, and the tech wasn't drastically different from WWII yet, either.

Yes, And the problem is simulate modern weapons and ASW , for example guided torpedos, active sonars and detectors , towed array sonar, missiles...
Is the same if i use bismark or yamato against old wooden battleships :haha:

Well yeah... That's why I suggested early cold war subs, before the technology soared way beyond the WWII standard.
If we can tweak the crew abilities then we'd be set for relatively realistic noise levels, unlimited oxygen, propulsion (especially if the walter turbine still works in SH5) and the sonarman's Total Revealing skill could be adapted to represent target motion analysis. Then after you got the target's info you can plug it in to the Nav Map TDC if you're using TDW's UI mod. The torpedoes could use the stock sound homing logic as sort of a band-aid solution and ranges/speeds are easy to tweak.
So basically it all comes down to building, texturing, animating and scripting the boats and their controls, etc. Which is obviously a huge undertakining, and would probably require a decent size team to accomplish in a reasonable time frame.
Then again, think of it... Silent Hunter goes nuclear!

Actually i have yet to see somebody even modify the existing interieur for the u-boats. let alone create a whole new modern one.

What do you mean you have not seen anyone modify the interior, there are a lot of interior mods that change different stuff? I mean, there are no mods that change the 3d modeling yet, but other stuff. I don't like to toot my own horn, but my mod (credit to Conus00, sober, Nauticalwolf, and Naights for their contributions) changes the look of the interior a lot. I don't change any 3d modeling stuff either.......yet:D, it is all done with textures and lights.cfg tweaks.

I am not saying that this mod is what you are looking for by any means, I am just saying if I can make the interior look like this, the interior of the sub could be made to look like anything with enough work by the right people. And, I am saying that you might not need to totally rip the interior apart and reinvent the wheel in Goblin to make it look a little more modern(1950ish).

Well there's very little that would realistically carry over from a Type VII to any first-gen US nuclear sub's interior. The dials are different, the controls are different, the layout is different...
