TMO 1.9/2.0 Interior 3d Overhaul

all edgy brass gauges smoothed out to a much rounder shape.
machines with black holes and no gauges brought back to life.
maps clickable, 3d torpedo launcher clickable (open tubes), periscope
more interactive (click shaft/handles to raise/lower),
crew more interactive, click planesmen to dive/surface, emergency orders, click 2nd sonar operator to follow nearest contact (which was his
job anyways)

Now that is a pretty sweet looking Xmas tree. Overall your doing one heck of a job. Im Jealous! :O: I have one question. Are you really using interiors from 1.9 as a base? I'm curious because the before screenshots don't look like it at all. I know what i did for the interiors wasn't the greatest but it looked better then those before pics! :rotfl2:

i had already built it in and had no more before backups.
i'm changing the pics out, your work on the lights deserve a better comparison!

the overhaul is meant to be a base for a future TMO 2.0, if you like:hmmm:

they shouldn't be open while surfaced??:D

Heck yeah i like. What is there not to like? Frankly im REALLY REALLY impressed. (did i mention i was jealous? :O: )

just a question about flood&vent valves,

You mean the levers the crewman is supposed to pull under the xmas tree? The levers are all independant and not tied to the model. So they could be animated. I've thought of experimenting in trying to do that, but never got around to it. offhand i don't think they remain in an open or closed state. At least, altough im not entirely sure about that. I know the main induction valve handle would be either open or shut. The main ballast tank vents i don't know. Id suspect they are moved only long enough to let in so much water and then closed again. I really don't know.

vickers03
12-05-09, 09:29 AM
You mean the levers the crewman is supposed to pull under the xmas tree?...good idea with the animated levers but i forgot
to say that i meant the flood&vent valve lights
on the right panel (indicator for m.b.t.),
currently they indicate all open when on surface.

JREX53
12-05-09, 11:16 AM
Vent valve lights should indicate closed when on the surface and after the sub has reached its operating depth. They should only be open during the dive process.

We could be limited by the controller. I haven't looked at this in awhile, but as i recall the controller was limited in scope. If i remember correctly, its surfaced or submerged, with nothing in between. So it's either Open, or closed. Go go gadget boolean values eh?

I just want to say, thank you for working on this. I started mucking about with interiors trying to isloate the cause of the "black crew bug" and while i think i almost have it nailed down (i have an idea whats causing it, i just have to repoduce it), i think i'll push that off on a back burner. If your working on this stuff, that free's me to look at some other things ive been putting off.

We could be limited by the controller.
it may work with the state machine, hide/show
a different set of lights under certain conditions

Also, just tried to download this at filefront and it says file is not available..crap

Hi, folks !

@ Vickers : Approximatively 4 hours of "instensive" searchs about S-Class Xmas tree provides no results...I'm so astonished as S-Class "technolgy" couldn't be always classified today...So i found it's very curious that there are such poorly materials about S-Class Xmas tree. But I will try others searchs.
Maybe CIA prevents me to do such searchs, as i live near Paris, France... :O::O:

Vent valve lights should indicate closed when on the surface and after the sub has reached its operating depth. They should only be open during the dive process.

Unless you are on Dick O'Kanes boat who liked leaving them open. I've read that the Squadron Commander ordered them closed during a ride and O'Kane ordered them reopened and made it quite clear that Tang was his boat and he would choose how it operates.

That is the type of Captain I would like to be!

Yes, i read it yesterday, and send you a message in return.

Two days after downloded the file you linked me by PM, i don't notice something wrong yet.

Maybe, as i saw in a pre-WWII control room, periscope are raised or lowered by chains (as a bicycle, i don't know the proper american word). Later periscopes are moved by ropes. But as i said before, i'm not sure.:hmmm:

Beautiful work again Vickers.
Early war if I don't start in an S Boat I'll pick a porpoise. I like starting in the least capable boat then working my way up, so this mod is very much appreciated.
One question, if I have read this correctly the interior is for stock. Is there a TMO version planned?

Great work on the Porpoise! I had been awaken several times during the night and couldn't go back to sleep, so I checked into the community to do some reading in hopes that it would help me get back to sleep. Boy was that a mistake! I just had to D/L and install this to see for myself.

I originally bought SH4 (Gold Edition) as a xmas gift for a colleague at work & decided to get one for myself since it was only $6 at Big Lots. I enjoyed the game in its stock version, but this community & those of you whom I will refer to as "The Mod Squad", contribute to my current addiction of scouring the forums for the mods and tutorials that continously elevate this sim from one level to the next. Thanks for all of your efforts! :salute:

Since he had been away during the holiday break, my colleague had not yet loaded SH4. I informed him of the community and all of the great mods that you all have contributed and it was all I could do to keep him at work the entire day. He can't wait to immerse himself! :o

I just tried the updated porpoise interior. Great Job! It just keeps getting better! Maybe its just me, but the little details really mean alot. The text on the dive station, the dive angle indicators and the animated coffee cup and clipboard blew me away. You are really improving this game for alot of people, Thank You! :salute:

i do have a few minor requests, could you work your magic on the captains cabin and radio room? I would like to see the captains logbook in the captains cabin actually bring up the log and in the radio room could you make it so when you click the gramophone it brings it up?

In any case, Thanks Again, can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Outstanding work Vickers, USS Drum is only about an hour from where I live, nice touch.

Something I have been wondering, is the placement of the ladder in the Gato control room incorrect in the game? I noticed on my visits and in the pictures that the ladder is not behind the chart/compass table as is in the game, but to the side. Was this true for all Gato boats or perhaps since the Drum had a Balao conning tower installed after a severe depth charging wrecked the other, its ladder is placed differently than other Gatos?

Just wondering if the devs decided to put the Gato's ladder in wrong place or if they were just following the historical plans.

Anyone?

Dunno Vickers for Neither 7z nor WinnRAR would open it up.

Below is a Readme for WinnRAR and if you will read four features down ( Read down four * ) and at the very end of this feature you will see that WinnRAR will open up 7Z packs. But I tried it your way and 7Z would not open it either. I ran an antivirus on it but all was clear.

This archive contains the WinRAR multifunctional integrated archive manager.
WinRAR features:
* WinRAR introduces an original compression algorithm. It allows
higher compression ratios than other PC archiving tools, especially

* WinRAR offers an optional compression algorithm highly optimized
for multimedia data.
* WinRAR supports files and archives up to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807

for all practical purposes.
* WinRAR provides complete support for RAR and ZIP 2.0 archives

ISO, Z, 7Z archives.
* WinRAR supports NTFS file security and data streams.
* WinRAR offers both a classic interactive Windows interface

* WinRAR provides functionality for creating a 'solid' archive,
which can raise the compression ratio by 10% - 50% over more common
methods, particularly when packing large numbers of small files.
* WinRAR offers the ability to create and change SFX archives using

* WinRAR offers the ability to create a multi-volume archive as SFX.
* WinRAR offers a number of service functions, such as setting a

damaged archives may be repaired and an archive may be locked
to prevent further changes. Authenticity information may be
added for additional security and WinRAR will store information
on the last update and name of the archive.Unquote

AH take a good look at that sub on my desktop ( USS Gudgeon ) which is a GAR series and one I have now in Jan.1942.
Don't think mod will work on this beast. So I was thinking it had to be installed at port, but maybe not. Anyway I want it already installed in JSGME for when I do have the GATO series. Or do you have to install/uninstall at each type series providing you have the interior mods for each series that Vickers has made?

Q3ark

The mod will work fine with the Gar. All the big boats, by this I mean the boats with six tubes at the front, use the same controll room and conning tower sets. So if you enable this mod it will show up in your Tambor, Gar, Balao etc.

Porpoise classes had riveted hulls actually.I learned this when I read the book "Luck of the Draw" by Captain Kenneth Ruiz.Ruiz served aboard the aging USS Pollack in 1943.Thinking Sargo and Salmons were prob riveted also because I believe Ruiz said the Gato's were the first fleetboats to have welded hulls, thus the reason their test depths were 300 feet instead of 250 feet like previous classes.

I'm sure there were still some rivets however a quick Google search shows many sources to back up welded construction for the P-class - and at the top of my "personal list" is Hondo's "Valor At Sea" website that jumped out at me (who I consider a well researched and reliable source)

From: http://www.valoratsea.com/boats2.htm
.... The P-Class submarines, first commissioned in 1933, marked a tremendous improvement over the previous candidates. With a forward speed of 19 knots and a range of 10,000 miles. it was not nearly perfect, but it was very close. The technique of welded construction, first seen to a lesser degree in the C's, was now to be fully implemented in the P-Class.....

Happy Hunting!

The thing to keep in mind with SH4's Porpoise class is that, in reality, there were three sort of sub-classes in this group:

SS-172 and SS-173, the 'literal' Porpoise class, were an enlargement of the Cachalot class and the last American submarines with a full double hull. Both boats were constructed by Portsmouth. These two were riveted.
SS-174 and SS-175 were the Shark class boats, built by Groton. These boats were all-welded and featured a partial double hull.
SS-176-181, the Perch class, were fiscal year 1935 boats (the above two classes were FY 1934). The three Groton-built boats were all welded, while the others (built by Portsmouth and Mare Island) were partly-riveted. They were also partial double-hulled boats.

Who said US submarine design couldn't be complicated? :D

BTW, the above info comes from Register of Ships of the U.S. Navy, 1775-1990.

Bubblehead1980
02-11-10, 05:03 PM
Well okay I was partially correct about the riveting.Ruiz said the pollack was riveted so figured he would know what he was talking about since he went on many war patrols.Yes sounds like sub construction was complicated.Pollack was SS -180 and built at Portsmouth I believe. Thanks for clearing it up though.

I think the only interior left is the S Class. :hmmm:

I THINK he was having trouble finding good pics for reference on the S Class. :06:

The Gato,Porpoise and Salmon are all amazing, the details are very well done. I couldn't imagine going back to stock, These are so much better! :yep:

They also work with almost any install, which is great.

I hope once the S Class is complete, Vickers brings them all to the same level ( :ping: Phono and Captains Log in Porpoise Please!:salute: ) and releases them as a single megapack. Might be a bigger download, but once you see one of them you will want them all anyway. :rotfl2:

I don't know how much time it takes to do an interior upgrade, but i can tell the accuracy was well researched. The photos i have compaired have been dead on or as close as the game would allow. Alot of homework was done to make these interiors right. Nice Job and...

VICKERS, I installed your new interiors and they look great.

There is however one issue I have. Your mod also adds a new compartment (interior aft, see 1st image), but it is almost completely dark inside, although there seem to be illumination sources (2nd image). Is this normal? Or what did I do wrong?

[ I ran this non SH4 UBM 1.5, NO other mods installed. ]

Door to new interior aft compartment:

unfortunately it's quite dark there:

Is there any actual difference between the Gato, Balao and the Tench?

I realize the game considers them all to use the same interior, but if they're different I could see having an interior we can toggle for each. ;)

Really been loving them thus far.

At one time I thought there was and thought it was important mostly because of the strength of the hull. I thought there should be a separate BALAO class interior with a 600' gauge keeping the 450' gauge for the TAMBOR, GAR, & GATO, classes. However since then I have seen RW pics of a BALAO with a 450' gauge and others with a 600' gauge - also vice-versa with the GATO and a 600' depth gauge.

So, whatever they decide to do - especially Vickers, is outstanding work and I sure do like it.

Happy Hunting!

More like a hack job. For someone with no 3D modeling skills, it half bad. I dare say, creative even. But.. it's a hack job none the less, i admit that willingly. Did the best i could with what skills and resources i have.

Not much is standard on fleet boats, is it? The more one reads up, the more one sees various non standard modifcations introduced on the part of the skipper, crew, or dock yard workers themselves.

edit:

BTW, vickers03,

How's the S boat interior coming? I figure it's quite noticable i put very little previous effort into it. So i imagine thats slowing you down. When working on interiors, i always started with the Gato and worked my way down. By the time i got to the S boat, i ran outta gas.

Just one question, apologies if somebody has already asked this and I’ve missed it - Can multiple interiors be activated simultaneously in JSGME e.g.

TMO19_interior3d_PORPOISE_overhaul and TMO19_interior3d_SCLASS_overhaul,

When I try to do so I always receive to the following: ‘…dds has already been altered by the "TMO19_interior3d_PORPOISE_overhaul" mod.’ – so does activating another a second interior remove the gauges altered by the previous one?

no but could it be that you accidentally clicked the officers quarters next to the sonar station?
that causes a black room in non-TMO setups.

Yes i believe i used the USS drum. As vickers stated, he has a newer version. The version i was using, i had compiled into a build for TMO 2.0 for some time, and i simply didn't think to check for any new versions.

My impression was vickers was working on an Sboat interior, and that was it. Vickers PMed me that he had wrapped it up, So i D/Led it, looked it over really quick, sat there wondering why there was an extra cfg file, (like i said, i looked it over REALLY quick), ran the interiors without the cfg file cause i wasn't sure what it was doing, looked at the sboat interior in game, and it looked fine to me. So i added it to the update, tossed in some last minute patch changes, recompiled, and compressed all 2 Gigs of data, uploaded that puppy, and was damn happy to be rid of it too. :O:
