re-usable parts.

Just curious, Tomi, if you will be taking part at the subsim meet in September? On the 16th of September, there will be made a one day trip to Laboe, so it will be possible to make some photos there too, I guess.
I still presume, I'll make it, and then I will make sure to bring my camera and make some photos from bow to stern, inside and outside. I mention it, just in case you would be interested... :03:

I'm better with hydraulic drives
(I rebuild all our Construction equipment)
but,
the part you point to seems to be the Armature.
Which spins.
The parts with wires attached would be the brushes.
Which provide the power the Armature uses to spin.

But the size of the unit appears to small to be the main electric motor?
Not haveing good info that's just a thought on my part.

It does rotate, exactly as privateer described. Very nice work from today also! It's always amazing to see what you can do.

It is a small boat, and that is just the Starboard side, not a "main motor".

Considering what Tomi gives us with his skills (or is going to give us.. someday :O:) maybe a couple people should get him a copy of this DVD I was looking at for his work on the VII..

Some features that would pertain to his endeavor:

View over 600 color photographs detailing every nook and cranny of U-995. Photos are narrated and compiled by sections within the U-boat leading you on a virtual tour of the inside.

Examine large, high resolution photographs. These 3072 x 2048 pixel images are taken directly from a Canon EOS Digital SLR camera. This ensures the photos are of super-high quality. They can be enlarged without losing picture quality. Perfect for viewing minute technical details.

Experience videos shot inside the U-boat providing a virtual walk around tour - section by section. Included are video of the Control Room, Sound Room, G7a torpedo, and all sections within the U-boat. Absolutely nothing has been left out in over 10 minutes of total footage!

Inspect Schematic Plans illustrating an accurately scaled top and side drawing of the U-boat. Plans are big and crisp, at 3000 pixels wide, suitable for modelers and graphic artists.

Step inside the U-boat with the Virtual Guided Tour as it guides you through every compartment in the U-boat. Imagine Oberleutnant zur See (First Lieutenant) Hans-Georg Hess proudly showing you around his boat! In English, he guides you through section by section, demystifying all the dials, hatches, hand-wheels, and equipment.

It only costs $27.99.. what do you guys think?

Hello,
I'm very happy if the teem gets help from my images.

But there were mistakes in the names of last three photos from stern ratings quarters (bottle, shaft and bunk)!!!!
I wrote that they were taken starboard. That’s not true!
All three are port side!!!!

Please inform the other guys.

does GWX have plans for Fleet boats?

I saw you ask that in the Type II thread as well. I don't speak for the GWX team but I am going to go out on a limb here..

They have never mentioned Fleet Boats.. a couple of members have stated that they have little interest in the Pacific theatre in other, unofficial threads. The name of the mod and team, The Grey Wolves, would indicate they are 100% focused on German U-Boats.

This kind of work is a labor of love, Tomi being from Germany can be expected to have this passion for Type IIs and Type VIIs.. To get the same thing on the Fleet Boat side you will need to find someone with the skills, and of course the same passion for Porpoises and Gatos.

I would dearly love this kinda workover for my beloved S-27, but I doubt it will ever happen, and even if it does I highly doubt it would be GWX doing it.

I don't speak for GWX modders either, but probably we'll see them concentrate on the Atlantic theater. Personally I'm more interested in U-Boats; in fact I didn't buy SH4 until the German add-on was available. While I'm sure that there are great Pacific mods out there, GWX remains an Atlantic mod. If their work in SH3 is anything to go by, then we have every reason to be hyped for their next release.

pitty about the fleet boats...

Rockin Robbins
07-28-09, 07:07 AM
Folks, I don't speak for GWX either. Mostly they cuss at me, or at least their fearless leader does:haha:.

It's still unknown to us what impact this level of detail in a torpedo room and engine room will have in the game. I have to think that there is a reason for the level of detail in the stock game and that is a necessary balance between the clock cycle sucking needs of gameplay vs. the clock cycle sucking needs of eyecandy. Our computers can only do so much, so hard choices have to be made.

Even the environmental mods have had to be ratcheted back once in awhile because they were killing frame rates. This isn't the fault of the effects that were being attempted, but the result of the slowness of our computers. Our mod wizards are making mods that will run on the next generation of graphics cards and computers. If you have $5,000 to sink into Silent Hunter IV, you might get there now.

Tomi's work is astoundingly good. If it kills the game, it will still be something we're all interested in as a standalone U-Boat walkthrough museum. I could even see it as a commercial product or shareware app. It's that good. I can imagine it being used at U-Boat museums. In any event, Tomi's work is much bigger than Silent Hunter can control. If SH4 has a cow his work will still be appreciated for many years. (what will that sentence look like translated into German?http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/RockinRobbins13/smileys/icy_lol_flag.gif)

Right now on the fleet boat side the "gameplay is king" guys are ascendent. Their philosophy is to keep the graphics side of the game relatively simple and emphasize gameplay. If a graphics tweak doesn't improve gameplay or at least has NO EFFECT on gameplay then it's considered. Otherwise, no matter how nice it is, it walks the plank.

The exception to that is the AOTD guys making Fall of the Rising Sun. They are HEAVILY into eyecandy and have a great balance of gameplay and graphics. Check them out. They don't get enough respect. They are the closest fleet boat analog to the GW.

We are aware of all of those things and have been for some time.

Appropriate decisions will be made.

I trust this thing will be given the highest level promotion, whether in game or outside. Every addition is nothing but U-Boat pornography. This sub guy just foams at the mouth as each time Tomi posts his work seems to double in quality! And yes, I realize and appreciate that the Wolves have been a part of his increased skill, as have other people, such as skwasjer.

I encourage you to think about a separate commercial product, even if it IS able to be incorporated in the game. This quality work deserves a monetary reward and there is no way anyone will ever view it without gaining a new appreciation for the beauty and complexity of U-Boats.

@moderators, I wish to register a complaint. This thread is inappropriately not stickied. It contains the highest quality work ever performed for the Silent Hunter Series.

@gimpy: it's a good thing that we have divergent modder groups with different modding philosophies. Very often one will prove that a sacred cow of the other is just a misconception. For instance, if Tomi's engine room sits in SH4 or SH3 without impacting game performance, that would alter the mindset of the "gameplay is king" contingent in RFB, making it easier for eyecandy to qualify. Such a discovery is very unlikely in a climate where all modders have the same philosophy and preconceptions. They would be inclined to just reject the eyecandy out of hand. Differences in opinion are good!

The SHV devs are professionals; there time is limited and they have no special

I beg to differ. Many people will die for a job in the gaming industry. I am pretty sure the fellows at Ubi Romania have a passion for their work. The difference is, they have to do 100x as much work in half the time. I can speak from personal experience that dev projects usually get cut off just to make the deadline. In fact, I'm right in the middle of one at work. I don't like it, but it's not my call...

Sure, but however passionate a dev is about his/her work, they are limited
by professionalism. Generally, professionals can't devote more time to their
work than they are paid for. Doing so in a formal employer/employee
relationship is usually unprofessional and can lead to all kinds of problems.
Then when I am working I have to use my time efficiently. A professional
makes the work fit in to the time; an amateur makes the time to fit the
work in.

It's the reason great artists, as a rule, are self-employed.

I slightly disagree here, in the sence that most likely the reason for fewer details of the SH5 interiors ain't limitation of time or passion, but a demand to have the game meeting some criteria of mid-level pc spec's, so that the game reaches out for the widest possible customer mass.

EDIT:
But it shall be interesting to see, if not Tomi's work can be ported over to SH5, if necessary. Since we still don't know how the final product looks like....

Maybe UBISOFT has hired some others from the GWX4_Dev_Teammembers and forgets Tomi:haha:

I think UBI would be making a big mistake if that were the case. There are some great modders in this community but Tomi's attitude and attention to detail is second to none.

Hi Tomi

I noted this the other day while updating my drawing (http://models.rokket.biz/index.php?topic=106.0). It look like there a small rolls at the end of the arm, not a pin system like in your drawing above. Hope this helps :)

The thing in the middle has 3 bolts to the upper middle plate will hold,
that is one of the bolts that you see on your photo.
In the middle of this plate (which you do not see here)
is a return spring between the bolt is.
in the middle of the return spring (small rolls ) is a rod that goes into the transmission.
Or just keep the spring tension on
.
In the Great Spring on the far right is also a spring-rod,
I have not installed.

Thank you for your help !!

Need help !!!

Who does have drawings of gears (side view)

Imagine driving your full ride and the gear starts to smoke.
You go to the diesel engine clicks on the side screws on and is already
The protective flap and you see how the pistons work with full force.
Through the open door to protect the engine more air gets into gear and is no longer hot. Good LI made the ride can continue.

To realize the books I need from you a few drawings (in PDF)
Otherwise I have to improvise.

So you see GWX is not dead!:arrgh!:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2.)

Defense can confirm to me that thick black rod, the red is pictured here is about the chin of a large amount about 1.80cm man??

It's really difficult to say whether it is just a dummy or an organum,

I could not find the original photo of a different variant.

I was in Laboe visiting U-995 few weeks ago (I think it was one week after the subsim meet) and took nearly 350 pictures of almost details only. I'd bet my ass that you are interested in them.

------------------------------

:yeah:

That's very cool of you, Thank you!
I hope you have made some extraordinary pictures.
But I'm happy with them all.

I just finish the front of the diesel engine today. As you can see it’s made up of four layers. Hope is may help with your drawing. Happy viewing :DL

I know not how I can pay this!

That's a great collaboration.

I'll probably try to take the job.
It itches me in my fingers.

Thank you my friend!

Hi Tomi

Not sure how accurate you want your 3D model, as I noted you have 3x3 nuts on this cover. Anyway I just finish the lower engine covers and there 5 nuts along the lower edge at equal spacing. And 5 nuts on each side of the cover but not space equally. The nuts in the orange area I am unsure of, as I have not see them in any pictures yet.

Happy drawing, Simon.

:03:
Your version is correct.
There are several variants.
Yours is the VIIC41.

Mine is out of the VIIC and it will also give yours to .
Since I have two build options you're going to pass away
The VIIC and see again the VIIC41.
... Or more accurately, the past and later Varant ..

Thanks Tomi. I thought this maybe the case between the VIIC and the VIIC/41 covers :DL It look like they added more nuts, 2 per side to help hold on the cover better in the later variants.

After a small break I've taken the work again.
My wounds have not healed yet, but with small steps we continue again.

I have a question to the U-boat experts.
A slightly older variant of this diesel, not in Laboe (VIIc41)
is another variant has the control box.

Which has in Laboe (VIIc41) two small windows, and I suspect that the entire control box is also slightly larger.

The slightly older version I guess has only one window, and I suspect that the box
This also is somewhat smaller.
In this drawing, only one window is displayed (which is not visible here)
What you see is the control box of the variation in Laboe (VIIC41)
:hmmm:
I am looking for something pictures or drawings of the old version, or maybe there is another variation.

Pleas Help for your VIIC –Engine !!! :yeah:

I think that we will only be in February or March 2010.
Important is it that the animation of the diesel correctly
Will be worked out.
So the money .. GAS and Diesel cycle.
I very much hope that I get support here.
Since the usual time will increase too much.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was doing some research on my drawing today and was watching an old U-boat movie of U-boat in New York of U-552 around March 1942. They had a few shots from into the engine room and I noted the control box had two windows. U-552 was an early Type VIIC. Back to ALPHA cannel

Why Alpha? :06:
Imagine you have red light is on 180m, and rammed by a British destroyer.
And then you see her in the engine room as the water rises slowly
and from the diesels is a black smoke cam out,

in some places you can see how the fire flares up.
The engine room gets her caos when the water rises, more and more,

at first covered with the water tanks
then the pipe, and increases with yours upstairs bar,
dark, red top light flickering in and
sees her in the smoke as the mechanic with a wrench and screaming trying to repair the valves.

I promise you this will be a cinema. :yeah:
And I hope that your efforts to realize it.
There fore ALPHA cannel.:salute:

------

Zurück zu den ALPHA CANNAL

Warum ALPHA ??

Darum ALPHA CANNAL .

Hi Tomi.

What way did you run this pipe (Green pipe - Red Arrow) to the bow or the stern of the boat?

Thanks, Simon.

Hi Tomi

Not sure how you scale your engine with rest of the U-boat, but here how I did it :DL

The U-Boat ribbings through the engine room are space 600 mm. I have set up my U-boat drawing to be 100% correct for all the ribbings and frames base on real German U-Boat measurements (You got to love 1/1000 of an mm drawing precision software :DL). All my measurements for my drawings are base on the ribbings and frames! I needed a way to scale the engine with the ribbings and frames. This morning I found a way to do this.

I found on the Engine plans two pipe outlets (Fig. 1) and I found these pipes outlets on a U-boat plan (Fig. 2). All I had to do was match the width of these pipes outlets with the Lightening holes between the ribbings.

Good work my friend.
When it comes to the Corel Graphics Phaint Shop Pro Photo XI is a very good Program,

it has a good future, as can convert pdf format into Jpg.
Scaling an image is not a problem.

Good work my friend,
it is important and very good to see how the pipes run.
I have often spent hours to figure out how to pipes goas .
Is just a pity that we have so little drawings and have to imagine things.

If you look at the Plate 14A: Engine lubricating oil system (http://www.uboatarchive.net/U-570Plate14A.htm), the valve symbol (http://www.uboatarchive.net/U-570Plate2.htm) look like there is only one valve with a handle, the second valve is control by the first.

Yes you are right, but the tube just on the opposite side.
There, the oil storage tank 2 ( Motorölvorratstank2 )is labeled

Hi Tomi

I am trying to workout this pipe system near the bow of the engine room (Figs 1 & 2). The only system I could find that it match was the Cooling-water system and anti-corrosion oil-circulating system (Fig. 3 - Valve in red). You can see this real piping and valve in (Fig. 4) from U-Historia.

Any thought Tomi? Do you think it part of the Cooling-water system and anti-corrosion oil-circulating system? Have you had time to add it to your 3D model yet?
