Hi Tomi
Real nice!!!! :salute: Almost make me want to do my drawing in 3D :03:
I have be looking in my books trying to found out what two long tanks that run along side the engine are use for, are they for fuel oil?
Also did you have any pictures of the Exhaust manifold?

Yes, that is the problem I am a single interesting picture of the Auspufanlage.
It is interesting that one at all, always make the control below the exhaust
But no one makes you pictures taken above the control
Kaleun Endress has also made some pictures , one only has to look exactly
difficult to find unless one knows the area.
Do you have more pictures of the exhaust system? :06:
Very good that you begin so that the area is still opaque to me!

I have added the wiring, the insulating cork (the light brown layer next to the Pressure Hull) and a control rod that run along the starboard Pressure Hull (I believe the control rod is for the aft hydroplane :hmmm:). Pressure Hull and Ribbing are now to scale :D (Pressure Hull is 21 mm - because this is a Type VIIC/41) and ribbing is 200 x 70 x 11 mm.

Hi Tomi
I have nearly completed the ventilation system :) It has taken me over 30 hours of research to work out the piping for this system :know: I have noted the ventilation piping for U-995 does not match the plans we have. I have decided to copy the ventilation piping system of U-995 as I am drawing a Type VIIC/41.
The other pipe above the main ventilation pipe is only found on the Port side of the boat.

The galley hatch is modeled, but the ladder is not mounted since we understand it was not standard practice to have it in place for normal operations.

I have been thinking for the VIIC I will install the Hand Rail and for VIIC41
If I let it open.
Is it a good idea or?
Was the handrail an afterthought or a design feature.. Or was it a field addition?? If it was a design feature I would do it on the VIIC and not on the VIIC41 (later in war, get uboats ready to fight asap. thus small ergonomic features where left out). If it was a field addition I would
have it only on VIIC41.

Again a topic I do not think about, I only saw the holes and ask why :hmmm: I think the holes were a design feature. The picture is from U-570, she was laid down in May 1940 and and launched May 1941. So she a early war U-Boat, I would believe they would had keep to the plans and I think you are right near the end of the war they just wanted to get the boat ready to fight.

The exhaust system is nearly finish, it taken me a lots of research, reading, asking questions (thanks again to everyone who is helping me!!!) and drawing to get it all correct. There is lots of detail in the drawing, like the correct scaling of nuts, rivets, piping, plate steel etc... I have added detail of the building hatch (you can see this in the change in the ribbing, and the change in the pressure hull). I have added the forward diesel exhaust valve that leads to the schnorochel (This took me some time to get the correct valve and handle). I am currently working on the exhaust outlet with help. When I will finish I will start working again on the Ventilation system in the Engine Room.

Fig. 1. Exhaust System.

I see you working on ventilation system. I finish the ventilation system a few day ago. Have been working on the pressure hull inlet pipes for the ventilation system. Very hard!! :-? Very little information and pictures of this area. I had to model a little of it in 3D :03: (with Blender) to seen how the piping and inlet work. Will post some pictures soon.

Tomi,
do you think that your engine room might be somehow imported in SH5 as a mod? So far (by checking the videos) your version surpases, by far, what UBI created...
They should have hired YOU! :salute:
Also, any chance on remodeling other u-boat sections?

Bordinstrumente made the dials look more like the real thing. The fact that Ubi's new game looks more like the real thing doesn't mean they used anybody's mod to do it. It just means that they took it to heart.

Hi Tomi

SCRIBD.COM - Is Copyright Infringement Their Business Model and Are You a Victim, Too? By Wilfried F. Voss

There has been a great deal of commotion about Google's controversial and potentially anti-competitive plans to digitalize millions of books, or the pricing war going on between Walmart, Target, and Amazon. It is surprising that only little attention has been paid to an even greater threat to authors and publishers by Scribd.com, a web site allowing the distribution of copyrighted documents, including digitalized versions of popular works such as J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard.
J.K. Rowling used the power of her legal team to have her works removed, but her focus was the protection of her intellectual property, not the financial damage. While big publishing houses or successful authors like J.K. Rowling can easily dismiss the financial loss, the situation becomes quickly explosive for small publishing businesses. For instance, BookLocker.com noticed more than 13,000 scribd.com users had "read" their best selling book, Cancer-Free (http://booklocker.com/books/2929.html), before the author was able to have his copyrighted material removed. Two of my books were listed for roughly six months - without my knowledge - and the loss of sales is roughly $20,000, with no chance to tackle a heavyweight like Scribd.
Scribd.com is not the only document-sharing web site, but with more than 50 million users and more than 50,000 document uploads per day, it appears they aim to be the YouTube for print. Scribd.com can most certainly be helpful for authors, publishers, and bookstores. They can upload their documents in their entirety and sell them for a good profit, or they can upload only an excerpt to wet the appetite of potential readers. The content on Scribd.com ranges from a majority of dull documents to a number of copyrighted books, fiction and non-fiction alike.
There are two sides to the problem: First, Scribd.com provides the means to upload copyrighted material without "editorial interference or approval", thus creating financial damage to the publishing industry. Add to this that the majority of authors and publishers are still unaware of the issue.
Secondly, there are a number of publishing businesses - sleeping with the enemy - who believe in a strange marketing policy of allowing the free-of-charge viewing, reading, printing, and downloading of their published books for "a limited time".
The absence of "editorial intervention and approval" in combination with a highly flawed sign-up process, however, encourages the crime. Scribd.com makes it very easy to sign up with a fake e-mail address. For instance, a user can sign up as johnmccain@thewhitehouse.com and then upload the latest Dan Brown, provided it exists in an electronic format. Scribd.com does not actively verify the users' authority, and, in case of an illegal upload, they are usually unable to identify the perpetrator. Of course, they pop up a dialog window asking to confirm the rights to the document in question. But, seriously, criminal minds don't care, and there are a great number of users who may be unaware of the consequence of their actions.
Removing copyrighted documents from the Scribd.com web site is easy, though - they promote this heavily as one of their "helpful features". Scribd.com provides an e-mail template and the author or publisher fills in the appropriate information. It usually takes only a few days to process the request, but it also means that the document is still available for view, print, or download until the verification process is completed.
And even then, Scridb is still holding on to the document, meaning it is still stored in their database, which posts yet another legal problem because they store copyrighted documents without explicit authorization by the document's owner. Officially, they use the existing copy to verify it against new uploads and thus prevent further copyright infringement.
I strongly suggest that each author and publisher check out the Scribd.com web site and search for names and titles. If your work is listed on Scribd.com, send an e-mail to copyright-at-scribd.com (copyright@scribd.com) using the legal form they recommend. You will receive an automated response stating that your request has been received. They also encourage you to leave comments, and I dared doing just that, without being insulting. As a matter of fact, the person in charge at Scribd.com, their Customer Care Director, did not appreciate my feedback and closed the request immediately. I had to re-apply, and my book was finally removed from their web site.
The law firm of Camara & Sibley has decided to take on Scribd, seeking class action status against the site in a lawsuit filed in a Texas federal court. The charge: "Like YouTube, Veoh, and other user-generated content sites, Scribd makes it just too easy to upload copyrighted content without permission."
Ironically, a copy of the lawsuit is available through the Scribd.com web site (Search for Scott v. Scribd Complaint).
For further information on Scribd.com, log on to my web site at http://www.frogenyozurt.com (http://www.frogenyozurt.com/).
Wilfried F. Voss was born and raised in Germany, but for the past twenty years his home and his heart have been in beautiful New England. He shares his birthday with celebrities like THE KING (Elvis Presley) and David Bowie, which is January 8 (not the same year, though). He has published three books on technical topics and is currently exploring another genre of writing, namely fiction writing. In Septmber of 2009 he published his first novel "The Bleeding Hills."

When you get time to continue working on the engine room. Here some additional information for you about this Control Arm below.
Its looks like the Control Arm continues all the way forward to the Control Room.

Tomi, I believe this control arm is only found on the starboard side of the U-boat, not on the port side.

Tomi's not going for a nice mod, or even a great one. He's going for perfection. The mods will be done when they're perfect.
And that's his choice to make.

perfection is a nice intention and a great motivation...
but it often lets people not reach their aims. steve, i know, what i am talking about...this is why i own sh2, sh3, sh4 and sh5, but never played them more than a few patrols, before i started to modify them. and when starting to modify, the workload grows and grows, as you want to get everything done in a perfect way. result for me was to open up a lot of mods, but just finishing a very few of them.
from time to time you have to leave things the way you created them and not try to polish them for a perfect release.

Here are a few more drawings of the engine room, to help with anyone who is modelling it for SH.
Have you ever wonder that the piping looks like in the engine room on a Type VIIC/41, here your chance. These drawings are base on the Design and Specification Books, Volume M that was found aboard U-570, shipyard drawings and U-995. During the research we found evidence of three reviews of the engine room. The first was around mid 1941, the second is around mid 1943 and the last sometime late 1944. My drawings are base on the late 1944 version.

Hello,
Can I ask what happened to this great effort? Any chance this can be revived?
This is amazing!
Fritz
I second the motion of reviving the lost images. I have been scrounging everywhere for underdeck images of the engine room of a Type VII for my U-371 model. I found a couple scratchy pics from this thread but that's about it. Any chance of getting some of the images back?

I can re-post the updated images this week if I get time, however remember this drawing is for the Type VIIC/41 and not for the Type VIIB or VIIC. Also I was able to check the layout with U-995 a few weeks back and my drawings are not 100% correct.

I would really appreciate that! I know your drawings are of the /41 but given the scale I'm working in I'm sure I can be forgiven by all but the most obnoxious of rivet counters. The Trumpeter model begs for more detail, especially under the engines. Obviously in 1/48 scale there's only so much I can replicate anyway. Anything is an improvement over an empty hull.
Speaking of which (and if I'm getting too off topic for this forum, please let me know), I can't for the life of me figure out the layout of the oil tanks under the engines. From the 3D renderings I've seen, it appears the tanks go from the bilge up to just below the V'd portion of the frame rib. Do the ribs go through the tank? Is the tank in segments between the ribs? I just can't seem to see it. It's been driving me nuts and it's a detail that is front and center on the cutaway of the model.
Snowman, I've been scrounging your images anywhere I can. They have been most helpful in my planning of my project. Thank you to you and all the others on the Subsim site. I know it's not a modelling site but it's been a wealth of info (gushing, gratuitous, self benefitting praise over).
Aktungbby-Thanks but I have tons of photos of the engine room, especially of U-995. I've been looking for 3D renders like Snowmans for under the deck plates. I know the basic components but not the layout and piping. Thanks for the pics though!
What is the story on these 2 green supports on either end of the waste oil tanks? Why are they green and why the electrical shock warning?

Simon - Thanks for posting those. I have most of those that I've managed to scrounge up here and there but there are a couple I didn't have. I also came across some Elevation views of the Engine Room that look as if they are also yours. Unfortunately they are in bits and pieces. Did you make any full views from either the Elevation or Cross Section views? Sorry to come to you with my hand out but your drawings have been so helpful in deciphering the plumbing under the deck plates. Tomi's have been most helpful too.
Oh, one other request, do you have a Legend for the colored piping labels?
Thanks again for your help.
