Tomorrow we prolly play. Warfare is great for what I tried it, just I prefer Evolution myself. And 75th RR server allows some mods, like sound mods etc.

Ow, and the time is 21-22GMT when we start

Still, Its a linear storyline, and theres no point in playing it more then once = Waste of money.

People don't play ARMA for its storyline (its crap we all know it OFP was much better in that regard). We play it for coop (evo or warefare) or other multiplayer. Also there are a lot of excelent missions available, several are even highly dynamic in nature. Plus its pretty easy to make your own.

Righto, had a good 2-3 (4??) hours of ArmA with Fin, Hunter & Neon. Gotta say, alcohol & ArmA dont mix, hardly had any teamplay. Tho, that's prolly because of the unlocked server, so we could do/drive/fire anything possible. I still think the 75th RR should be our primary BLUE server, we need to find a RED side server for us too.

Got some footage, nothing major, missed alot of stuff again. Will put something together.

Hehe I remember a few helo face plants from our transport pilot, and a couple of friendly fire incidents ;)

I think I spent 3/4 of the night either trying to get one of the damn attack helos fixed, or driving to an attack helo with an ai guy in a fuel truck to fix it, only to have it swatted out of the sky by some guy with a machine gun :damn:

I have to say how they handle helocopters in ARMA drives me crazy, stoopid things are made out of tissue paper, light machine guns can knock attack helos out of the sky with ease, and a couple of dings and the engine fails. That and the game forces you to engage far to close in as you cant target further out.

Anyhow was lots of fun all the same, even with the ai so jacked up. I'll try to have my face painted up for the next time.

Aye, this sucks badly. Have they changed it somehow since stock ArmA? IIRC, the choppers were much stronger, also, I havent seen a tail rotor blow in ages. :hmm:

Thats the way it is in stock unfortunately at the moment. Small arms fire does a lot of damage to armored attack helos, and if any helo takes 10% damage the engine quits and they fall out of the sky and go boom. Drives me crazy as your average attack helecopter is armored enough to take multiple 20mm hits. Small arms fire (even LMG fire) is low threat and generaly wont do any damage. I've yelled at BIS several times over at their forum that their damage model for helos is complete nonsense (among a lot of other things) and that attack helos are generaly tougher then your average plane (other then maybe the A10, which of course is also way to vulnerable on the battlefield, those thing can take stupid amounts of punishment and still come home irl).

Also gotta say I prefer the versions of evo where the vehicles respawn rather then having to drive down and fix them constantly. The entire battle we had hardly any combat vehicles, too bad the ai didnt suffer the same problem.

But I don't want to sound like im complaining, I did have a bunch of fun. Oh and I believe i was the gunner of that apc screen, I think hunter was driving. :D Oh and i want my arm patch and stuff :p

I don't think the problem is with helos not being able to take small arms fire, they do that quite well. I wish they'd stand up to contacts with leaves and branches as well as with bullets. The biggest issue is the AI accuracy when firing on them: a helicopter flying 150 km/h 500 meters away is no big deal for them, they'll land plenty of hits on it in a moment. Try this yourself, and you'll see how incredibly hard it is. Dowly is imho correct on the tail-rotor issue, I haven't had to practice tail-rotorless landings in ages. Seems that it just doesn't happen anymore.

I remember the old-times(something like pre-1.08) when the AI, Shilkas included, wouldn't fire at anything moving faster than 150 km/h. Even in an AH-6 you were safe by doing hit and run attacks :lol:

AFAIK, the vehicles respawn when they are destroyed. :hmm:

PM me with your player id found in the Profile menu, also I need the full nick you use (NeonSamurai, right?). It takes 2 minutes to add you to the squad, then I'll just give you the squad url you copy & paste to the profile menu and that's it. ;)

Ya I agree about the AI being way to damn accurate at either distance, or on fast moving targets (they are scarey with AT rockets, and also tend ignore cover or concealment), but attack helos should be able to take a lot more small arms fire then they do right now, that or at least not have the engine die so early (if it died at 50% health I would be a lot happier). Now I should say im talking about the cobra, not the AH-6. I also haven't lost a tail rotor once (though I started at 1.08). I always die the same way just about, the enemy opens up with a LMG, I take a couple of hits, the paint gets scratched which jams up the engine some how and the Cobra falls like a stone to the ground. If its a ZSU then he just glances at me and I go boom.

As for the leaves and branches stuff, I'm pretty use to staying the heck away from trees and bushes (even in real sims they are something to avoid). Unfortunatly you cant sink into the canopy of a forest or give trees haircuts.

Just the one you use, the game will put the tag automatically once you are in a squad.

That's the way it normally works in Evolution. Ideally engineers repair the broken stuff, but yesterday I was the only engineer on the server and no way able to cope with the amount of things you guys broke and fight at the same time. If you pick and engineer position in the roster you'll be able to build a FARP, which will repair, refuel and rearm anything, by just having a repair truck nearby. You'll also be able to transport other vehicles with the UH-60MG. You should try it sometimes, it's good change from the usual banging away :up:

Okie, found us a good Red server. Called 13.div, talked to the admin there and he said it's on 24/7. Based to germany, so the pings are low too (~60-70 here atm). :up:

Hmm guess you are correct, I must be thinking of the modded version I created little while ago (4 months ago) and would have changed that script as it bugs me.

Aww sorry I missed it, I tried to play but my skin wasn't working and I was spawning in as a mannequin rather then my harlequin skin.

Ah well at least I did get my harlequin skin working and took some screenies of it.

They are a bit dark though, can't see my purdy blue eyes and my hat covers my blond hair :p

Btw I am a veteran chopper jockey (and jet jockey too though I'm not a huge fan of the jets in ARMA). Been flying (sim) attack/transport helos and planes for 20+ years now. I am however a bit rusty on the ARMA versions which handle pretty different (should take me a few days to get use to it again though). I also know my way around sniping, CBQ, and all the ground vehicles ;)

they really are made for the job.
only sucks thought is the long distances, but on the other hand that makes you more carefull in aproaching the area.

Try to get the size down to 50kb or under it. We had some problems with lag when my & Hunter's faces were ~70-80kb.

Easy tutorial:

How to do that is fairly easy:
1. If you already have the file in .ogg format just skip all points to point 3. If you don't just get the sound you want in .wav format (suggested but also other formats are okay).
2. We now have to encode the file as .ogg. There are many programs capable of doing so but i prefer oggdropXPd (get it here (http://www.rarewares.org/ogg.html)) in which you just drop the .wav files per drag and drop onto the symbol and it encodes them automatically.
3. Now we just have to place all the .oggs we want in a folder named "/[your_ArmA_profile_name]/Sound". The "Sound" folder isnt there by default and has to be created. Your ArmA Profile is usually found in the "own files" (?) folder under "other ArmA profiles". (i mean where windows stores your documents and so on)
The Sounds will appear ingame under their filename without the .ogg extension, so if you want to give them a fluffy name, do so now!
4. In any multiplayer matches those sounds can now be accessed under the radio (9) menu. I push 0 ingame the 9 and then the number of the sound i want.

note: The maximum size of the files accepted depends on the server! The standard file size for that is 50kb, but some servers accept even bigger files, like our KH Server which accepts files up to 50kb.

Thanks though I already knew that. I'm a veteran game modder (I've modded just about every game I own that lets ya mod it, and done a lot of modding/missions/scripting for ArmA and OFP for another group I use to play with) and one of my specialties is sound modding :D


I'll fire up adobe audition later today and get the clips made from the sound bytes I've selected :arrgh!:

Sounds like a plan, I can also edit the post too if need be (and sticky it too).

You guys can also create your own mugshots pretty easy, just need a guy in your squad so you can access the commander view which lets ya pan around (-= to zoom in and out). So either join a unlocked evo server, or rank up then recruit an ai guy and snap away. The logo itself also could be slaped on

Another idea is listing specialties under each mugshot, like pilot or sniper, or tanks or whatever. Assuming more people join up that is. If I'm not mistaken the 4 of us can all pilot, drive, tank, etc so not much point right now.

I PM'd both Fincuan and NeonSamurai the other day to PM their face files to me, so I could do some fancy "Propaganda" screentshots (Like this, but with all us in it (http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/SSCtest.jpg)) with the editor. Seem like my request went to deaf ears. :-?

Dont know how can I manage to get the logo tho, I kinda seem to have deleted it from my HD. :oops: Need to try and get a clear screenshot of it in MP. :hmm:

Well, I kinda though of doing SSC wallpaper kinda things. I can always make more, there's endless options I can build the screenshot on. And not to forget how powerfull the editor is for making different kind of screenshots. You can for example play any animation the game has for an invidual soldier and there's some cool stuff that's used in the campaign missions, especially the Queen's Gambit has some great looking new animations. ;)

Well I can send you my face file if you want, you want it in the arma graphic format (you'll have to use that if your gonna be scripting us in)? If its single player the faces can be high detail ones too (1024x1024 no jpg compression).

As for favorites.. well don't ask me to list one favorite role or gun, I use all sorts of different guns and like playing all the roles. In my last ArmA squad i was the flex guy, i play all the roles pretty well, though i tended to helo pilot a lot or play marksman/sniper support, but i did everything else too. So if i can only pick one put me down as "all of them" for both ;)

Just send the face you're currently using. Mine & Hunter's faces are the low res versions, dont have the 1024 x 1024 versions anymore.

Mostly the config.cpp file I need to write for the faces addon to make them usable in the editor. I posted a topic to the OFPEC. Hopefully someone can shed some light on how to make it work. Fricking stupid that you cant use the faces from the saved mission folder like you do with sound files etc. :-?

Ok, still no luck with the faces. The guys at OFPEC didnt really know what the problem is either. Doesnt help that the only face pack addons I found were decrypted, so couldnt open the addons and check the config file.

Shame really, I found 2 custom static animation packs to use with the editor, some really cool animations. :-?

Again, veeery nice job! :up: First post updated with the linky. Sucks that you cant lose the crosshair in MP if the difficulty of the server has it on. Cant really make any good combat clips with the crosshair bobbing up & down in the shot.

Rilder & Fatty. Could you guys take this to the regular ArmA thread? This is about SSC and ArmA, not games that have linear storyline. Thank you! :up:

I checked and there's like 2-3 face addons available, maybe that's because they havent gotten them to work and the one's who have gotten them to work, arent telling how it's done (the addons cant be extracted, they've "locked" them).

FYI I managed to get our subsim clowns badge off the guild server, SubSim.paa (i converted it back to a gif with transparency, and i have tga and psd of it) if ya want it Dowly for the front page (poked around in the xml file to find it).

Also I'm working on modding Evo R&B this weekend (lots of variations such as fast ranking, unlocked, and full vehicle respawn and mixes of them) and I have custom modded warfare if you all ever wanna try it out.

I'll also be free to make custom coop missions if you guys would like, and I can help if you need some with any mission projects of your own such as adding briefings in and the other files or whatever.

Last I won't be able to play over the christmas period probably starting from the 20th or 23rd untill about next year.

As for the custom Evo's I can say that atleast me & Hunter dont really like fast ranking or unlocked Evo's. We've been to a few and it's just so darn easy.

I'm all for coop missions, been planning on starting doing my own ones too. :up: Preferably something longer than a 15minutes of carnage.

Well I'll be honest too, I'm not a big fan of the normal version as it takes way to damn long (hours and hours and hours some times) before I gain access to gunships and tanks (which are two things I like to do other then grunting around). My version of fast ranking is about twice as fast as normal, not near instant 6 kills and your a general (might as well play unlocked).

I'm gonna do the mods anyhow as they may be useful at some point, even if its just me playing on my LAN server by myself.

Yup, I know what you mean. The unlocked might work in a private server better, tho. Why I personally dont like unlocked servers is that it's just run & gun. You got Cobra's blowing the enemy from 2km away with it's hellfires and Harriers & A10s making high level raids to the town, most of the time killing everyone including any friedly players there is.

Ya that I understand completely and agree with. If we ever did use the modded evo or warfare it would be on our own private server.

I also moded a while ago the normal version to be a bit more in line with actual ranks and reality, and the equipment they typicaly have access to. Above either capt or lt it only unlocks extra squad members. lt and captain get most of the attack vehicles (tanks and gunships) and a few of the more restricted weapons, sgts get sniper rifles etc and special forces weapons, the rest get the grunt weapons. I'll probably do that again as well.

We should at any rate give warfare in coop a try some time in private, the cool thing is you can let the ai handle the base building and everything and just group up and do your own thing, or you can like recruit a full squad (12 or 24 modded) and hit a town from multiple directions. Or you can split off and each take your own objective and come together when needed. The ai is pretty effective too, they will take and hold towns and mass if they encounter strong resistance.

Yup, and briefing and the other stuff too. I just had remind myself of a few things from OFP, since basic mission making doesn't differ much between the two.

edit: The biggest pita was to get the QRF chopper to land even in a remotely realistic way. The AI always wants to balloon WAAAY up into the air, then stop to a hover and slowly descend the 100 meters he just climbed while RPGs and bullets whizz by :lol:

Ya I usually try to avoid using AI helo pilots for that sort of thing and either used human pilots, or some scripting tricks. Though its hard to do a rapid landing period in ArmA or OFP anyhow as you cant sit the chopper on its tail to rapidly slow down with out gaining massive amounts of altitude even with the collective all the way down, which is something else I've yelled at BIS for.

One mission i made for an old group i use to play OFP with was a dawn raid (demolition mission i think it was) team of 8 helo dropped (I simulated fast roping by scripting the chopper to hover 10 meters off the ground and sequentially kick the passengers off the bird then leave). The team then had to infiltrate the target town, destroy the target and escape. the town was fairly well guarded with 4 12 man squads, and armored reinforcements were 10 minutes away once the shooting started. They then to exfiltrate had to make a radio call to call in the pickup black hawk, and run like mad before they got overrun by the armor. The chopper was carefully pathed to insure it wouldn't get shot down when flying in and wouldn't present itself too much. Though i also made sure there wasn't a ZSU or similar to smack it out of the sky. The chopper would then leave on a second radio call (best way to have control over the chopper and when it would leave).

In play it was pretty closely timed, often the armor would burst into the LZ just as the chopper was leaving with tracers flying everywhere.

Just a note to say I started and finished modding Evolution RB yesterday

Here's what i did.

Changes:
Changed the rank rewards...
Weapons are distributed more realistically and stop after Captain
Vehicles are distributed more realistically and stop after Captain
Soldiers one can recruit are distributed more realistically and also stop after Captain
Captain, Major and Colonel can each recruit 2 soldiers for a final cap of 9 (vs 6)
Removed the no AI and no vehicles options, and added full vehicle respawn option in 24 and 4 hour versions.
Removed chemical weapons and nukes.
Removed the punishment system as it drove me mad when testing vehicle respawn.
Added some more vehicles to the map, particularly motorcycles.
Removed Halo cost.
Costs for cluster and Large Artillery slightly reduced.
Improved the ammo drop to include a bit more ammunition and a few basic rank 0 weapons.
Removed all the admins included, and cheats.
Decreased respawn time for aircraft to match ground vehicles.

Comes in three flavors for both Blue and Red: Normal, Fast Rank (point requirements cut in half), and Unlocked.

The hosting service for the squad info has changed, so our squad logos, tags etc. are all gone (atleast I didnt see the tag after my name today when I played).

I'm gonna fix that during the weekend, either by re-creating the squad on the new host or uploading it to my site. Details will follow when I've gotten it sorted out.

I finally managed to finish the ambush mission we played by making it ACE compatible and adding a few things(spectator script, description.ext). At least it's now a lot more immersive with proper insurgent units and weapons. Also Hunter will now get his bikes and Dowly his ATVs in the DS Sabotage mission :lol:

Maybe we could as Neon to convert the EVO to ACE, with some tweaks such as no attack armor/planes/choppers and no rank requirements for new weapons. TBH, the DS Sabotage is getting abit boring, all we do is go to some hill, shoot the baddies and parachute out. I miss the urban combat. :cry: Oh and I cant use my Mp5 either in these long range situations.

I wonder how hard would it be to implement it to another island, tho. The name is "Dynamic Sahrani", but I'm pretty sure the missions work like the IL2's stock dynamic campaigns, all missions are already there, they are just played in random order. Wouldnt that then mean that one would need to make the missions for a new island from scratch to make them work properly?

As for new vehicles, I dont think we need anything new.. maybe a BlackHawk as I like to fly it and it sounds nice. :88)

But my main gripe is that the missions are too easy. Like the destroy armor we had as last mission last night, shilka sitting on a hill top with 4 man patrol guarding it... oh come on! :-?

It would be very easy to move it to another island and get it to work, just a copy+paste, but it would take longer to get things where they need to be.

The basic map is always there, and for each new mission the necessary units are spawned. The scripts that handle it don't care which map they're on, as long as they're fed proper data(coordinates, marker names etc). Similarily if the whole mission is made in the editor, without any scripts, you just go to the editor and select everything in the mission, then copy+paste it to a new map. Voila, it's now on a new map, but you still need to move things to new locations on the map to make it playable.

and no markers on the map where he is just the name of the town or area

and we can think of tons of stuff for each city, but meanwhile we play we also get the generic soldiers defending the towns/cities so our way to the objective aint going to be easy, but as we know EVO is frecking huge....so completing it wouldnt be possible...but heck we can say we move to that town or that one, just like an open Mission we can see how many objectives we can complete in the amount of time we have

Now that you said it, the Domination is abit like that. The primary objective is the same as in EVO, take the town, blow the radio tower. But there's also secondary objectives in the area like "Find the governor of the town and kill him".
EDIT: Ow and Domination has enemy artillery observers in towns, so you before you can eliminate them, you'll be showered with arty barrages occasionally.

Not yet, working on it. An easy way would be to just add normal patrols all over the map. These would spawn at the beginning of the mission, and patrol their routes until the mission end. The only thing dynamic about them would be their routes and composition to some extent, but otherwise they'd have nothing to do with the small missions themselves, they'd be there all the time. This way the mission would be a bit heavier to run than it is now, but you'd get plenty of uncertainity because the patrols could be anywhere at any time.

I think I'm gonna test this. I'll add a couple of enemy vehicle patrols patrolling the road network, and foot patrols + OPs around the map. I'll also add something to the border, since it's a bit silly there's nothing there at present.

Yes, I've though about it. There's a possibility to make the presence & waypoints random. But as you said, that would make the mission heavy. Let's say, the DSS has 30 possible missions, to cover all the routes etc. etc. to those objectives that would result in maybe a 4-8x the times of the amount of objectives. Most propably even more. So, one missions area has 2 patrols + 4-6 patrols covering the roads. 8 patrols = 96 soldiers. That isnt that heavy on ArmA standards, but there has to be a script that deletes them after the mission is failed/completed.

My dream mission would last for 30min to 2hrs. For example, you are dropped via chopper to the shore of an hostile island, you have to make your way to your camp in some woods, there you find more weapons and explosives. After that you get the briefing, blow/kill something in town X. You make your way there, you see an abandoned civilian car on the way, you use it.

The example I gave is almost identical the POW mission in OFP or the 'Everyone is dead, escape to Morton before the evac ship leaves'. Those 2 mission in OFP were VERY well made. Lots of options to take.

I now have a few roaming patrols in the Sabotage mission. Had to refresh my scripting skills too, since the mission can easily run for hours and the vehicle patrols need their tanks filled from time to time.

Though I haven't looked at it yet, it should be pretty simple to convert Evo (or whatever) to ACE if we wanted. Though I'm sure someone else will do it to the popular missions.

Adding dynamic mission objectives to Evo is a bit beyond my current scripting ability (I haven't done any scripting from scratch in several years). Also you can already take missions in it.

Coop single missions we can make what ever we want. Downside though is to make it re playable and different each time takes an awful lot of scripting. That or we make throwaway missions which don't take very long to make.


I gotta agree I'm also kind of sick of Evo. I think we should give Warfare in coop a crack some time. In it the ai attacks and tries to take territory etc. Downside though is its squad leader level (each spot is a squad leader of up to 12 men). It would be very different to how we usualy play though.

Well, I'm not gonna have any new missions for tonight. When I do it I want to do it properly, so Dowly's mission is going to have to wait a bit. I did download a couple of ACE-compatible coops(Warfare-coop maybe the most interesting one) which we could give a try.

Domination is also indeed an interesting mission, especially since both us and the AI have artillery observers(my favourite role) in that one. It'd take the whole evening should we decide to start with it.

Atm, we're using the ACE mod + 1.15 beta patch. Dont worry, the mod makes it's own shortcut so it doesnt overwrite anything.

OK Windows 7 beta up and running, installation went like a dream. Currently installing different drivers that I want changed from what it installed by default(graphics card, joysticks, etc). First impressions after 5 min are that it looks great and I really like the new interface. Feels a little "quicker" than XP, but we'll see. Memory usage is higher than with XP.

@Janus: We hop on the GWX TS-server around 21.00GMT, see who happens to be online and proceed from there. Hunter is pretty much always there, the rest of us more rarely but still quite often :lol:
You should find GWX TS details in the SH3 Multiplayer forum.

Oh yes, that was like in a cheap sitcom. Hunter and I had a crash with a motorbike. Hunter got killed imediately and I was heavyly wounded and unconscious. Hunter respawned at the base, took an M113 and dashed to the crash site to save my life (thanks for that by the way:up:). He really managed to get there in time, treated my wounds as much as possible and drove me back to base since I still had some nasty health issues.
Now imagine someone heavyly wounded just gets out of a M113 in front of a medic tent, unable to belief his luck of being still alive saying "Thank god I'm safe. After all that I got through I made it back to base. I'm safe now and will surviv..." (Splash).:dead:

one of the reasons I guess there where so few servers running 1.02
also I really get annoyed by these servers that do not mention which ACE version they are running.

Could be yeah. By "buggy as hell" I meant to say that there were a few quite serious and obvious bugs, while those in previous versions have been barely noticeable.

To mention a few:

Picking up any CAR-rifle with optics gave a ctd to most ATI-players. This was an error in a texture which was used only when you were holding the rifle yourself.
AI wounding and death animations would take 7-8 seconds before they kicked in. Quite irritating to empty a whole magazine into a guy at close range, reload, and THEN see him keel over and die. Another funny version: Shoot a running AI, see him run and run and run and then suddenly fall to the ground.

Both of these have now been fixed, and there's the cool new feature of being able to carry two primary weapons and a backpack. A sniper rifle and an assault rifle, no problems. Even more useful if you carry two weapons that use the same type of ammo, eg. HK417 Sniper version and CQB version. You can also now carry a primary weapon, a launcher type weapon and a backpack all at the same time.

Following our M107 vs. M109 AMPR questions I tested the weapons in question a little bit, and I must say the 109 rocks. It's definitely not "almost the same as a 107" like I said, but a 25mm diameter monster while the M107 is .50 cal(~12.7 mm) as we know. Imagine the difference in power between .50 cal machine guns and 30mm cannons in IL2, and you pretty much get the idea. It was quite funny to sit on top of a hill a bit over 1,5 km away from the target and plink away at all the vehicles. It devastates anything below a UAZ with one shot, while a truck takes two to three shots to light up. A Shilka lasts about five hits to the turret, while a BMP takes about five to seven. Main battle tanks last a lot better, but I bet you could still at least disable a T72.

Funny little rifle that M109 AMPR, highly recommended to try out :yeah:

I can't stand those Domination and Evolution servers either, so I don't play on them much. Can't blame you for not doing it either.
If I play it's on one of the Tacticalgamer servers. SimHQ's Military monday was great fun too, too bad about the timing which is great for anyone in US, but put's it in the night and early morning before Tuesday here :wah:

If we do play Arma, I'd recommend small coops. Those were the greatest thing in OFP, and there's plenty of ready made out there. It's also really easy to make your own simple ones(like "clear this town" or "blow up these bmps", really 5 mins of work), while complicated things require a little bit more work.

Or we could go to Tacticalgamer, just no Evo or Domination :lol:

Seems more or less that Clown's DM/TDM arena is working
was good fun, and that mission is only fun to be played at Night&Heavy fog:D
perhaps a slight modification, just put in one of the crates just 1 NVG :haha:
because playing without NVG is way more fun, and knowing that only one of us can have it makes it a bit like there is predator in the game.

and that sniper Duel was nice! :yeah:

we definitely need the ACE sniper rifles in that mission.

Already done, along with adding laser rangefinders :D

I also fixed the conditions selector, which wasn't working in the original mission. It would always default to midnight/clear.
Your other wish has also been granted: I lowered the amount of NVGs in the DM-map. Placement and amount is random so there's no guarantee how many you'll find if any, but there won't be as many as there was yesterday. I want to make players fight for them :)

In the sniper game the only person i saw was hunter who was in a window.
I unleashed a hail of bullets at him but my shooting was so poo. I would have struggled to have hit a barn door at 10 paces with the sniper rifle.

What is this?
It replaces ACE MP5 models with those of Suomi KP/-31 submachine gun from FDFMod. It also replaces MP5 sound with Dowly's custom made sound. Weapon name, description and pic are changed too, as well as those of the default MP5 magazine. Other characteristics, such as ammo count of the mag, weight, initial speed of the bullet etc. remain unchanged for the sake of MP compatibility.

I dont honestly know which ACE we use. I just saw the new version 5min ago, so I'm on 1.08 atm, so is Hunter I believe.

And yes, the time is the same as on IL2 nights.

Well, I'm from Holland and my real name is Sander, though at this point I'm more likely to respond to Arclight. :-?

Favored weapon? Anything that uses Stanaq rounds so I can mooch mags of team-mates (and vice-versa) and has a scope for precision/longer range shooting. Lets say Mk12 SPR, filling marksman role.

Usually I'll hang back a bit and cover a flank while the more "Gung ho" players get their fill of shooting baddies. From playing online looong ago I noticed most players concentrate on the front quadrant and promptly get flanked and shot. I guess that makes me suited to any support role as well (medic/AT/AA), just don't expect me to grab LMG. :D

No custom mug yet. :hmm:

@Hunter: Aye, I think that's the best plan. We have atm 3 ArmA 2 clowns and IIRC chris is going to get the game on the UK release date (well, when the army postal service delivers it, so prolly a year or so after the release date :haha:).

@Mengle: I recorded the first campaign mission (not on constant record, tho) and some deathmatch, so I'll be sure to put them together and upload them.... when I can be arsed. :D

That vid was recorded with all settings at low or medium and me hosting, and the fps was around 30-40 when not recording.

It's interesting how much one arma2 tag affects the viewer count in YT. Clowns' vids have normally less than 50 viewers total, no doubt most from Subsim, and TG videos about a hundred. The Arma2 vid was viewed over a hundred times in a few hours.

Tried running it maxed out, FPS ~20 and the card crapped out in about a minute. :haha:

I do have some stills for comparison. First my own; normal preset, shadows turned down, textures and AF filtering turned up, view 2400m.

Note that shadow detail is kinda crappy. IMO the biggest graphics improvement is the lighting, but it costs some horsepower.

Very high preset (very little is actually at very high), 3600m

Maxed out settings, 3600m. Biggest difference seems to be in the LOD distance; high detail remains at objects at longer distances, grass appears further out, etc.

Comparing the VH preset and maxed out settings, note the trees on the left and just above the center. Compare the nearby foliage in the upper right. Shadow details on the weapon and hand.

The weird thing is that there's no AA setting; seems to be part of the PP filter, or not present at all. :hmmm:

I believe AA is part of "Fillrate optimizer" or something like that. The higher you put it the more AA. Still imho the game looks much better in live than in any stills. There's all those nice effects added which do not show up in the screenies.

Doubt it to be honest:

4GB RAM, 3,2GHZ C2D, 8800GTS 512 on my end; texture detail, vid memory and AF filter on high / terrain, objects and shadow detail on normal / PP filter on low / visual range 2400m / fillrate opt. 88%

Good enough for missions, but further into the campaign there's stuff going on all over the map; performance remains an issue as far as I'm concerned.

Had the game crash giving an 'out of memory' error (3GB page-file was set, now at 7GB). :-?

* biggest concern is 'high' detail shadows: I simply can't run the game to my satisfaction with that, that's why I turn it down to 'normal'.
** this is the first game that has me considering upgrading graphics.

I believe you should be able to run it Mengle. At my end it runs on low/normal settings as well as Arma, but with a lot more stuff on the screen.

My specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400(2.8ghz)
2x Ati Radeon X1950Pro 256mbs running in Crossfire mode(the 256 mb graphics memory is probably my biggest bottleneck)
4 Gb RAM

A small announcement on the logo issue.
