Yeh, the snipermap is nice. But it starts to bore you after a few times. Not that many good spots to be in + the grass makes it impossible to be on the groundlevel.

@Dowly: From the flight thread -

As said in the clowns thread I'll first make sure we can have 1 game a week for certain.
either Tuesday or Thursday....reason I also note in the thread that I'll anounce in advance that the game is one for that evening I can keep my options open to have either a game on Tuesday or Thursday and perhaps later or once in a while we have a game on both evenings of that week.

Yes, well, what makes you think I pay attention to the flightstuff? :O:

@ Arc

I hate the show, they show it here during the morning hours and I just dont get it. They got hairy asses and sruff, how the heck is that good for kids!? :hmmm:

Arclight
01-22-10, 08:11 PM
 well, they say watching cartoons is critical for developing a sense of humor. Just some lame humor, thought it had some hilarious moments. The red guy in particular. A lot of puns, butt and fart jokes. Some questionable references (even Dexter's Lab has some "adult" references). Fairly brainless entertainment.

Do they air it in English? It just falls apart if it isn't in English. :-?

Dowly

Reason I ask is 'cause I got some soundbites and used 'm for Arma custom replies thingy. Think I'll just watch Full Metal Jacket again and get some clips from that. :hmmm:

"What is your major malfunction, numbnuts?!?!"

Yeah, that should do nicely. :yep:

Or maybe get something from Vietcong; there's a drill-sergeant during training that is very quoteable, much like the one in FMJ. :)

Cheers TF, I don't even know how I got rid of the damn thing to be sure. Although I think naming a file after the exe file that it was hiding through the rootkit might have confused it enough to lower its guard and let me get through to kill it. Either which way it's not spamming me on startup any more, nor constantly popping up in the task bar, nor wrecking IE or FF.
So, FF with no-script is installed and running, hopefully that'll stop the bastards. :salute:

EDIT: Awesome pics Dowly, yeah, I've stopped watching DotD'08 now, I mean it looks all good and that but the fasties just put me off. It's not the speed that makes them scary and unstoppable, it's their numbers and inability to feel pain.

In the other news, the coming SSC campaign will be using custom units for us, I'll give the links when I've decided which one to use.

And lastly, I could use, AGAIN, all the custom faces those who regularely play with us use. Host them on some image site and either post it here or PM it to me. (I'm doing a sort of an intro video to be used in the beginning of any SSC movie I'll make in the future.)

I have no idea. I though about it last night, but havent checked anything. The problem is with the deploy thing, dont know if the problem shows if you deploy to a wall or so, but I'd imagine there's problem with custom weapons that have bipods. :hmmm:

I'll test some custom weapons tonight and see if the deploy on walls works. Atleast then we can use some custom weapons.

Right, that's good. How about we get a list of what everyone wants (Provided it exists), pack it together into a convenient download and use it for our campaign?

Most weapon packs have multiple weapons packed into one .pbo and their info and whatever they need into one config.bin inside the .pbo.

So, to cherry pick weapons from packs would mean to manually edit the .bin file to get rid of the unneeded info there is. And then look for and manually extract the 3d models, textures and etc. for that particular weapon.

Either we use the whole packs or you start searching for someone who can make us a custom pack. :yep:

Raptor1
01-27-10, 03:31 PM
Won't be such a big problem to use the whole packs and leave out anything we don't want from the missions or whatever...

Regarding the weapons packs, the L85A2 can be found in the UKF weapons pack on Armaholic, although if there's a better version then that'll be cool  Not sure whether it uses the standard A2 sights or the ones which they're bringing in from the States that one of the Army guys told me about last year. Sorry Raptor & Potato, had to fit you two into the same pic due to the music being too short to have 6 invidual pics. :-?

Right, first addon you'll need for the campaign (not until mission 3 or so) is the EBU's SOCOM units.
http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=886

The uniforms in the intro are the EBU CQB's.

Second, is the modified GAZ tiger (again, from mission 3 onwards)
http://www.filefront.com/15445785/tigr.rar

Sadly, I didnt find anything to use for the russians, there was these über cool spetznaz units, but I couldnt get them to work for some reason. :shifty:

That's all for now.

Tried the UKF weapon pack and it seems that the ACE deploy system thingy isnt weapon specific, but more like class specific (SMG, rifle, MG, sniper etc.) as the snipers & MGs in the pack were deployable on flat ground. :yeah:

So far we have the Steyr pack (whoever wanted it) and the L85 from UKF, what else?

Ow and Hunter, there's something in the UKF for you too. :D

I would've went for adding the weapon pack from the Switzerland mod (It seems to work fine without the rest of the mod), since it has the Hecate II and a few other nice Swiss guns, but unfortunately the snipers don't deploy on the ground and don't have adjustable sights...

EDIT: Hmm, maybe I can edit it to make it work...

EDIT 2: Right, bipod added successfuly, now for the scope adjustment...

Raptor1
01-29-10, 06:37 AM
Right, added both bipods and sight adjustment to the Hecate II, just have to add these to the other respective weapons and we could use it as well.

Does anybody know a good way to test the weapon at different ranges? Have to check (And maybe modify) the sight adjustment thing for every one of the new weapons so they work properly.

Take the laser designator (dont forget the batteries! :O:), pick a point from a wall for example and run to different distances of the point, check the range with the laser (fire button) and shoot. :yeah:

01-29-10, 08:43 AM
Find the weapon name and the magazine name (propably in some readme of the addon). Put your soldier in and type this in the init(ialization) field:

removeallweapons this; this addmagazine "insertmagazinenamehere"; this addweapon "insertweaponnamehere"

That way you start with the weapon and one mag, copy & paste the addmagazine thingy a few times to get more mags.

Fincuan
01-29-10, 10:32 AM
You can add many mags at once like this(add as many numbers to the array as you want mags):

{this addMagazine "magazinename"} forEach [1,2,3,4,5];

or

for "i" from 1 to 8 do {this addMagazine "magazinename"};

Just change 8 to whatever amount of mags you want to add

You can add in any weapons you want while playing on the fly, it will give you a hit report that shows where you hit the target, the ranges are perfectly accurate if you fire from the designated spots, and it even works in multiplayer.

I used it back when I made myself range cards for the stock weapons. Yet another reason why I am not a huge fan of ACE, too many god damn weapons to bench fire. :O:

OK just one more time: What exact versions of ArmA/ACE/Avghan do I need?

Raptor1
01-30-10, 11:56 AM
ArmA 1.18 (You need to update it to 1.14 before, I believe), ACE 1.09, Avghani is 1.5, I believe.

There are links a few pages back...

EDIT: Bah, the mission only goes up to 1,200 meters, gonne have to extrapolate the adjustments for the longer ranged guns...

EDIT 2: And it also keeps showing me dead center impacts whenever the Hecate II explodes the target into little pieces, so that's not gonne work...

Well, now I've reinstalled that thing, patched it for about an hour and downloaded/installed Ace and the ACEIP for another 1.5h. Just downloaded the Avghan stuff but can't be arsed to look up how that is installed. I guess someone can talk me through that when we meet next time. (we need an exhausted smiley)

Raptor1

Avghani is easy, just go into each of the folders and dump the contents into your addons folder (One has an mLods folder inside too, just dump it in there too (The folder itself, not just the contents)).

So, this Swiss weapon pack should work fine now if you people want to use it as well, the sniper rifles (Sako TRG, Hecate II) mostly fire where you set them to (This would've been much easier if ACE's sight adjustment system wasn't so bloody complicated) and every weapon that has a bipod (SG 550, MG51, SG 750 SAPR, Minimi and the snipers) has a working one.

BTW Dowly, the reason the UKF's weapons work with the is because they take the original weapons as base classes, not because ACE's system gives them to all weapons of a certain category.

Aww bull.. well that's not good news then. :hmmm:

As for the weapon packs, I think we need to give it a good think-over or we end up having 20 packs with 5% of the weapons that we actually use.

I think I have to look into making a custom weapon pack after all (if for not any other reason than wanting the finnish RK95 from RH's AK pack :O:).

Ow and me & Hunter tested the #1 mission today and it was kinda easy for the two of us, not to speak if we have, say, 5 players. So, I went in and made the mission a bit longer. Also, added something to tie it with the main plot of the campaign.

It's not so hard to add the bipods (A single line in the config.bin), but the sight adjustments are a pain if you plan to add any more snipers.

I'll check how much of a pain it is to make a new weapon pack (Shouldn't be too hard), but if we only have 3-4 it shouldn't be too much of a bother to just use them as they are.

Oh, how are we going to do the weapons in the campaign anyway? Crate?

@Raptor

I just realised that we have a problem regarding a custom weapon pack. The texture paths for the models are stored in the model itself. So, you cant just take the models and info of the gun and make a new addon of it (well, you can but your gun wont have textures on it).

Raptor1
01-31-10, 04:01 PM
Why not? Can't you just move the model and the textures into the new pbo while preserving the folder structure?

Dowly

Why not? Can't you just move the model and the textures into the new pbo while preserving the folder structure?

Yes, you can but it will be dependant of the original addon to work. The path in the model looks for a folder that the creator of the addon made it to look.

Raptor1

Hmm...if that's so, we'll just have to use them seperately.

There is a small chance that something might not work, but it wont be anything game breaking. For example, one radio message might or might not show up for anyone, but it's no big deal as pretty much what is in the message is written in the briefing once the objective comes visible.

Sorry for my early leaving, but all of a sudden I remembered everything why I stopped playing that game before. I simply don't like the way these guys are moving. You don't have enough control over them and the guns are floating around in a way that makes QUICK and accurate aiming almost impossible (for me, I know that I have always sucked at that anyway and yes the slider in the options is to the most left position).
Then being unable to turn while being prone because one of your legs hits a wall is just ridicules. A human body is flexible at least to some degree!!!

I just can't stand it to not being able to move like human beings usually can do. I'm feeling like a handicapped guy who is fighting fully trained soldiers.
We could see the result.
I will leave ArmA installed for another week or two and maybe join you guys once more when we don't play that awful mission again and see how this will play out.

Dowly
02-03-10, 10:21 AM
@Schröder

Ya, I feel your pain on that one. Tho, I've gotten used to it so I know where not to lie down if I want to have any movement. Dont like the prone-aim stuff either, but again, I've learned to deal with it. If I need to turn fast, I just "strafe" just enough that the weapon deploy lock goes out and then quickly turn the mouse at the same time and you can turn quite fast.

As for the floating aim thingy, you could try what I do sometimes. Use TrackIR to look around and if you think there's going to be enemies in the area, zoom in on the weapon sights, aim the gun slightly downwards and use TIR to look sort of over the gun. That way you are ready to fight in a split second, tho it does need some time to get used to. :hmmm:

EDIT: Updates to the first post:

- Roster deleted (as it is changing all the time and we dont REALLY need it, right? :O: Takes space too, might just add the names of the players there at some point who actively play with us)

- 'When and where you can find us?' updated to reflect our gaming schedule atm

- Logo changed to the most current one

- 'Subsim Clowns Official Campaign' section created for mission videos, briefings and results.

I actually do something similar by turning the float to max. :hmm2:

Look at a direction to cover, aim down the sights and point the weapon down; just have to raise the weapon to aim. Doesn't work with all scopes, and using RMbutton to zoom tends to zoom in on the ground because the center of your view is fairly low, but works well for me. Usually stay unzoomed, scanning for movement anyway.

* using a mouse with 1 or 2 thumb-buttons works well too; just map free-view to one of those. Gives more convenient acces to the function than reaching for Alt

Fincuan
02-03-10, 11:14 AM
At least Arma2 adding a bit of floating zone also allows you to put the weapon to "low ready" without moving the view. It takes a bit of practice to use effectively, but is very handy in close quarters. IIRC this should work exactly the same in A1.

MISSION #1 - LOST PATROL

BRIEFING

Situation

Today at 1235hrs one of our convoys was ambushed between Cedras and Estrella. We sent reinforcements immediately, but the enemy was too quick for us; the entire convoy was destroyed by the time we got there.

Since the war's end, there's been riots and protests against our presence here on Sahrani, but they've never gone this far before. To pull something like this, they had to have military experience, which leads us to think that the North Sahrani troops who refused to surrender after the war are most likely behind this.

As you can see, we are playing the guessing game at the moment. Better not make any assumptions before we have something solid to back it up. And that's where you and your team comes in.

Mission

Our first priority is to find whoever is behind this. Sergeant Hodgins reported from the site that a local living in Estrella might've seen something. I'd suggest you go talk to him first. I'm giving you free hands on this one, follow any leads you find.

SF Humvee is at your disposal. It's parked near the front gate.

Objectives

Talk to the civilian by the white car
Search San Peregrino. Engage any hostiles.
Clear the enemy camps. Destroy hardware and supplies if found.
Return to base.

DEBRIEFING

Excellent job taking out those camps! I assume every one of you is ok, if I write to the official report that those civilians and that bar were "Unfortunate, but unavoidable casualties to the civilian population"?

I have turned the passports you found over to the intelligence, they begin background checks immediately. The heavy weaponry and the map of our bases in the southern sector would indicate they were planning something big. The threat is still there, but atleast you managed to hinder their efforts, machine guns of that caliber arent exactly something you can buy off of a grocery store.

Now, go get some rest. Depending what intel has for us, we might have a busy day tomorrow.

Dismissed.

Will do. I'll post up a list of needed addons and game version closer to mission #3, when I know for sure what all is needed. Also, would be a good idea to start wishing for weapons for the SSC pack.

Mine will be the Suomi KP/M31 from FDF mod and the H&K G3 SG1 from Vilas German Weapons pack.

I'll add the modified Swiss weapon pack, minus a few unnessecary weapons, if you don't mind.

How I would do it would be to put an empty A10 in, make enemy unit and put "this moveindriver insertA10namehere". That should make it enemy.

In the other news, I've been doing a new sniper map for us while making the mission #2

Features will include
- Longer ranges, 500-700 meters
- Most buildings enterable and adjanced together so you can jump from one to the other
- Buildings populated with objects so you dont have to be directly at the window to make the shot
- Larger area to move on.

Overview of the main buildings
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/SniperMap1.jpg

A) Jump point between buildings
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/SniperMapA.jpg

B) Jump point between buildings
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/SniperMapB-1.jpg

C) Shots from "inside" the building against the enemy's sniper buildings (the red thingy is table or some other object you can rest your rifle on)

O.K. guys, I will give it one last try next week. But to be honest, my enthusiasm isn't really great. It seems ArmA hasn't developed in the time I didn't play it (Well ArmA 2 is out so I guess there isn't much going to happen there anymore anyway). Still the same random connection problems and the same movement limitations. I simply don't feel like sitting in front of my screen doing bugfixes all night long just to get this stuff to work (yeah, I'm lazy I know...).

Dowly
02-10-10, 07:32 AM
Umm.. yeah.. we need to have a look at that connection issue. Oberon did manage to join in after around 50 tries. I could host, atleast the campaign missions so everyone could play them (well, with everyone I mean Oberon :O:), but that'd mean that I cant test my missions fully as everything works for the host. :hmmm:

Anywho, we have a week to figure out what to do. :salute:

HunterICX
02-10-10, 07:39 AM
ArmA's netcode by means of someone hosts on his computer isn't that great.

anyhow, I think this is a foul word...but if we haven't got a Campaign mission ready for the evening...why not jump into a near empty public server that runs Evolution or something and terrorize it?

Raptor1 would enjoy it for sure if he sees all the toys at the base which he can drive if he kills enough people and raises in rank.
I think with the 5 - 6 of us we can do decent damage and clear a town (Raptor1 however is able to destroy half of the island without a problem if he has the right equipment)

let's just play till we get bored with the Evolution game mode and move back to small coop missions I'll look for on the arma websites.

HunterICX

Dowly
02-10-10, 07:43 AM
Aye, the netcode is crap. At first I though to myself that there must be a bad line somewhere between Spain and UK as MrChris had problems as well back then, but as Oberon can join to lolwaffles, that kinda takes out that possibility. Silly thing. :-?

Aye, Evo's ok for me, if we can find a server, they are getting fewer and fewer now that A2's out, even fewer that use ACE. But worth a try. :hmmm:

Yeah, sorry I moved forward too soon, I thought we were advancing and didn't realise you were still holding position until Dowly started shouting and by then it was too late and I was down on the road. I must admit I didn't bet on the buggers flanking you. Those AI were smart, the others just ran around like headless chickens.
Not sure what happened with the Hummer either, I was going to run up to it and steal it because there was no-one in the local area and then suddenly I died. I didn't see any top gunner but the connection was a little dodgy at that point, so it might not have shown.

Raptor1
02-10-10, 01:00 PM
I too was advancing on the Humvee at the end (From the street to the left, relative to the position we started blasting from), at which point the gunner magically appeared and obliterated me with the .50-cal.

To our credit though, we must have killed some 50 of them before they got us...

Arclight
02-10-10, 01:09 PM
When we were up on the hill, everyone reported ready and nothing happend on my end.

Never saw the missile fly, never saw any of you fire. Think it caught up again when the 2 guys down on the road started firing up at us. Just moved a little over the edge to check it out, think Dowly and Oberon were headed down to the road, and then Raptor and me got blasted from behind.

Respawn bugged, quit to lobby and rejoined, but it went to pieces before I was halfway back to that hill. :-?

Some very confusing moments.

Dowly
02-10-10, 01:12 PM
ACE has this little problem that if you dont kill the guy, he can still drive/gun vehicle while he looks wounded, so make sure you double-check those kills. :03:

@Raptor

Tried the Swiss pack, gives me error when starting the map about something something MP5K, you can click it away and hit preview again and it works, my only concern is, how does it work for MP. Does everyone have to join twice?

Might want to check that. :yep: Doesnt matter if you get error while you load the main menu, you can just click that away, but this error might be a problem.

Anyone want anything from the VILAS german pack? I'm going to switch my H&K G3 SG1 to some variant of Sig from the Swiss pack. :hmmm:

Right the most current weapon list for the SSC weapons is:

F88 Steyrs
Suomi M/31
Sigs 550-552 and 770-771
Hecate
SAKO Target
Panzerfaust 3
MG51
Sig p220 & p226
L85A2's
L96A1
LMG
GPMG
LAW-80
Different G3s

To add:

AWM (if someone can find a pack with only AWM, let me know)
Spike (Didnt find it with quick search)

Anything else? Bear in mind that the size of the download is going up quite rapidly, uncompressed is at 330 megs now. (tho, compressing lowers it to ~90 megs, so)
