Well ive just nabbed me a copy of sh4 (I know ive arrived late to the party), I was wondering what the big must have mods are???

With sh3 it was easy, there was GWX, but with sh4 i know nowt about anything!

Anyway, ive spotted a couple of "supermods", Trigger maru and RFB and im wondering which one to go with + any advice on anything else im missing would be much appreciated.

(Ive already grabbed some tasty new skins for the subs so im all set for sub texture mods)

Take a look at the official threads for both. There are a lot of comments and opinions already given on those two. Also look at RSRDC for a much more realistic situation where contacts are concerned.

You must be late to the game. GWX is brand new, compared to when SH3 was first released. I can remember loading dozens of mods, looking for the right combination. In fact, I still do that. I'm glad you call that easy.:rotfl:

TMO = make the gama a white knucle ride with some realism but its more about being hard to play than realistic

RFB = make the game as close to pure realism as possible right down to the last detail, its hard to play but because RFB sticks strictly to realism and being realistic TMO is reportedly harder to survive.

The thing about TMO is--it looks great, sounds great, and everything works! Also, in the TMO readme it tells how to adjust the expertese (sp) of the Japanese. Doing that makes the game much more survivable, but still demanding.

Having a choice of multiple mods is always good and stimulating, having a single huge compilation of the mods is actually not encouraging for modding and is always subjective depending on who has compiled it.

Couldn't agree more to both of you.

As to which mods for SH4, well, if SH4 is just grapped from the store now, then play it first a couple of times without any mods.

Then try out the graphics mods first: Pacific Environments or Environments.

As for gameplay mods, well, SH4 is supportive of both US campaign as German campaign, and the US campaign mods are TMO, RFB and RSRDC. The only currently available German campaign mod is OM (look in ATO forum).

Now I gotta admit, my preference is for TMO.

Hoping to get the SH4 Gold version after Christams. At the time, I'll check out other mods.
