View Full Version : DCG Campaign: Stalingrad 1942
1st sortee I took a 110, didn't realise there was a hefty crosswind and wound up without gear on the side of the runway, meanwhile Schroeder rear-ended someone I believe, Raptor or Kratos landed up with no ailerons. All in all, I think only two made it up in total. So that went well, and from what I could tell from TS, both those who made it up had difficulty getting back.
2nd sortee I took a 109 and escorted the unescortable Raptor in his Ju-87. With locked cockpits I had no idea where he was and presumed that I'd meet up with him at the enemy A/F, so it was a surprise to me to learn he was in fact three grids back and demanding an escort. So back I went with my three AI friends and I curved around and followed him in, then after he took out one AAA with his dive bomb I zoomed him on his way back to the airfield and then crash landed in the ground fog, sod it if I could see the damn runway in that.
3rd sortee I took the 110 again and followed Hunter and Schroeder in their escapade, Schroeder had a few choice words to say to the ground forces after strafing them whilst they were deep in red territory and heading towards our frontlines. I meanwhile strafed the village the tanks were in, blew something up and then followed them back. We'd just got back to our airfield and Schroeder had almost landed when the Brits decided to come and play, so up we climbed, I got in behind what I thought was a Hurri and opened fire, knocked parts of its rear-end off and then at the same time heard a mayday signal from one of ours. Smacked joystick into forehead and returned to base, Schroeder smashed his wing off on landing, Kratos had made a bit of a mess at the other end of the runway and I smashed my undercarriage off at the other end of the runway, from what I heard over the radio, Raptor in his Itie POS was also destroyed.
So, all in all, not one of the Lolwaffles finest moments, I don't mind the whole locked cockpit thing but it does make escorting a bit tricky when you don't know where the aircraft you're supposed to be escorting is. I've also got to wire up the zoom button to something on the joystick so I can ID a/cs before I open fire on them.

Does it pick up the sound of your headphones?
You can reduce the sensitiveness of TS so it won't switch the mic on when your engine is roaring, or set a push to talk button (I'm using ctrl for that since I don't have a free button on my Joystick left).

In that case, I think the problem is that your PC transmits the voice from the mic AND from whatever there is to hear atm.
Hunter could prolly help you on naming the output's name that transfers all the PC sound like mic would. I had this with my integrated audio card, if I was, for example, listening to music on my PC and would press the talk button on TS, everyone would hear the music.

"by the looks of it" means that it looks as though the problem might be the microphone is too close to the headphone and it's picking up the headphone sounds, however Dowly has a good point.

This is what I've got, and as far as I know it worked fine, but during the flying there was a problem with communication, I can't remember if it was you Schroe or Fin that said that you couldn't hear me over the sound of the engine, I'll give it another go tonight and see how it turns out.

One thing you could try is to switch "Sound driver" to "Wave" in TS settings. At my end settings it to "Direct Sound" has exactly the effect you're experiencing: Everything I hear gets sent out.

That map is much nicer than the other desert map, and it has a good selection of aircraft to fly
I'm still wondering how those AI 109 G2s and G6s caught up with my P-38 though. I tried the same scenario reversed in the QMB against a Veteran AI(me in G2), obviously with dissimilar results. I'd easily turn on the AI's tail after the merge, which would result in him extending in a dive(no chance to catch up) and starting a gentle turning climb. Exploiting the IL2 overheating modelling I'd constantly overheat the engine while keeping an eye on the watch(G2 can overhet for ~4 mins 45 secs without damage) and slowly make it to 300 meters, at which point the AI would start evading again, usually with a split-s. This would give me a snapshot opportunity, after which he'd again extend in a dive while I'd have to cool my engine and drop back a little. Then he'd start a shallow climb again... This would be cool to try with a human player. According to IL2 Compare(yes, it's faulty sometimes) the -38J should be faster than both G2 and G6 until about 6000-7000 meters.
Aye, nice sorties. Never tried the ML with 25 planes per side, but it worked quite well with good selection of planes on both sides. :yep:
@Fin
The AI controls it's trim & engine perfectly and AFAIK, it cant overheat. :nope:

The AI cheats, hate it
Anyway, 1 sortie and I managed to off myself and the Mosquito (At least those things are cheap)

08-21-08, 04:25 AM
I've known the AI cheats, but didn't think it would be that drastic. On top of what you listed(no overheating, perfect trim and engine control) they don't follow the same physics either. They accelerate and deccelerate way faster than the player, and sometimes do snap turns and jinks that I didn't see even from Dowly when his Hurri was in front of my guns. They also seem to never spin and rarely stall, never black out and never overstress their aircraft(I've seen AI Zero dive over 900 km/h, confirmed with a track). Still you can usually beat them quite easily in a better turning aircraft, much easier than if you had a slightly faster crate. If you're much faster then it's again easy.
The IL2's AI flying characteristics are heavily based to the old classic European Air War. Especially the turning capabilities are very similar. In EAW, the AI didnt turn as much as they could've, this simulated the pilot not being able to take the G's. In IL2, Oleg made the AI turn much sharper, which resulted in a "superhuman" turns. :yep:
Will probably give tonight a miss as well, been a topsy-turvy day today and I'm cream-crackered :yep:

The AI gets a little ridic overall. I've been doing some testing and experiment in QMB lately and sometimes no matter what you're flying the AI some how is always able to pull much power than you are. You could even turn off Engine Overheat and run at 100% + boost or 110% and they'll still pull away from you in almost every situation.
I did a jet dogfight last night, just to check out some of the new aircraft. I could not believe how fast the AI got the P-80 to scoot. Seemed like the only way I would be able to catch them sometimes would be to jump in a Me-163 and rocket me way up their tailpipe.
Interestingly enough the AI seems to never use the German Air-to-air missiles.

The X-4s are anti-bomber weapons, the AI can use them (I know they can), but I think they only use them against proper targets

With cannons you can. (old slogan:D)
Just pepper their belly. With cannons, the first shot to the radiator will damage the engine and usually cause a fuel leak. Same with MGs, you can atleast damage the engine. And if you're reeeaaal lucky, you can kill the pilot by shooting the bottom. The IL2 is tough, but if there's no enemy escort, you're in control of the fight, stay below & behind them, make pop-shots at the belly and they'll go crashing down.
Fincuan
08-22-08, 12:16 PM
With .50 cals you can too. I practice gunnery in the Mustang quite a lot against IL2s, and see a surprising amount of loose wings and tail sections :)
Interesting sortees tonight
Got a Gladdie on my tail and couldn't shake him, then my fuel ran out thanks to a leak
Second sortee I got some kind of microphone going :D Was too busy chatting to Schroeder and Hunter that I didn't spot the Hurricanes until they opened fire on me even though Kratos had called them, I didn't hear him
Third sortee saw us clearing the way for the Italians and their Stuka escort, Schroe called out four Spits at his twelve o clock (my two o clock) I turned to intercept, but on the first pass one of the Spits destroyed my engine :damn:
So, I turned and glided back over the front and crash landed just on our side of the lines, Kratos wasn't so lucky, he got his engine smashed up and then another Spit come along to pay him a visit. He's now in a Britischer prison camp :damn: I left at that point as it was the last mission and I was out

You ever thought about using IL2 Mission Log Reader (http://www.thinking-board.net/MLR/) to analyse, record and then post your missions here?
It propably is the best program to do that.
If you want to see some examples:
http://www.wargamer-project.de/wbb2/thread.php?threadid=5761 (I'm "Senshi" there)
We have a IL2 campaign running and always extract the information afterwards this way.
IL2MLR even can generate a html file where users easily can check their stats, kills, damages etc. Just need to upload it somewhere and point it here, that's it :)
And yeah, I'd love to participate in your campaign, but there simply is no time for that at all.:88:

2.you peek to see where the aircraft are by looking on the ground and comparing it to the map.
3.you're not able to surprise the other player aircraft.
4.you're more aware of your surrounding you check the horizon more often to see if you can spot the enemy
the only disadvantages is that the take offs and landings are bit more tricky and when you've crashed you're pretty much screwed and have to sit it out for a whole sortie looking at the same spot.
HunterICX

The sitting about waiting and seeing nothing is the part that really pee's me off :x i'm tempted to do what others are doing 'leaving the game and doing something else' and come back when sorties over. But i suspect that if i leave the game i wont be inclined to rejoin.

Turn off overheat? You just need to fly fast enough and the engine doesn't overheat at all (450-500km/h+)
Anyway, if we're running a jet campaign after this (I think only the 44/45 Germany campaigns have them though), I want my Arado 234!
Don't think it'll happen though, Hunter doesn't like them jets too much me thinks
Right i'm bored how do I get into this? :P

It's getting the jet up to that speed. I don't fly at high level so I am stuck at crappy speeds no faster than a prop.

Be a bit more patient,
with the ME262 I take off with 100% when it starts to overheat I go to 80%-85% and climb to about 2000 - 2500 Meters and speed up by dropping 500 meters in a gentle dive wich give me more speed for the meters I drop going 100% throttle and with that speed I climb higher and then I try to maintain the airspeed and can go 100% for quite some time, myself I drop down to 80%-90% to keep the engines as cool as possible and only go 100% in Combat situation.
Seems that our Online party is in a Pause at the moment due real life things, let's have a little break untill most of us is able to fly again in the evenings.
@Raptor1: I dont mind the Jets actually, I find them quiet fun to fly.

Flying jets against AI is a pain in the a$$ because they can always go 100% throttle. If you start to fight them you have to maneuver which will decrease your speed and then your engine(s) will overhaet in no time while the AI can still utilize it's full power. No chance! No fun!:-?

I think that with certain sound settings you can pick up some radio waves from other flights in other theatres. I remember flying somewhere along the eastern front and I could here the shouting of american pilots during a dogfight. Thought it was rather cool.
Fincuan
10-17-08, 01:06 PM
No idea about that Shotai thing(although I've seen it before), but Hunter and Raptor were going crazy when a squadron of Finnish Brewsters was in the air at the same time. During the mission they only spoke of headings and altitudes, but in the end they of course had to land, and Schultz's Finnish brother kept telling them to NICHT LANDEN in Finnish for several minutes :rotfl: Some of the Finnish pilots' requests for landing were also a bit unformal, along the lines "Hey bro, I wanna land"
Raptor1
10-18-08, 01:46 PM
I think it was Schultz himself doing that, he must know Finnish, Hungarian and Romanian in order to deal with all the Axis pilots (Doesn't seem to know Italian and Slovak though)

What was it that Hunter said to make those things go away yesterday?
I'll put the pics up here this time, as they're more a diary of our group than anything else :yep:
Two missions tonight with only Raptor, Oberon and HunterICX against the might of the Russia vodka-fueled air force! The first mission, Herr Dicke sends us up to destroy the Soviet air force, no more, no less. On the way there we discuss ways to achieve this feat, however, we decide the only way is to bomb the vodka factories. We make a note to tell this to Onkel Goring when we return. Meanwhile, Raptor gets buzzed by Oberon:
http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/3636/raptor1qp5.jpg
Eventually the gallant three encountered some enemies, P40s, and Raptor set to work shooting down a 109 and then displaying his heroic determination to find the best gulags in the Soviet Union, he rammed another aircraft and bailed out. Hunter meanwhile had discovered Stalins secret weapon! P40s with autopilot:
http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/9402/stalinssecretweaponhl0.jpg
Oberon meanwhile blundered about the sky and found nothing to shoot at. 'Oh for a stable target to shoot at' he wished. Little did he realise his dream was about to become his nightmare!! (dramatic chord here)
The next mission started off with heavy snow and cloud layer at 1800. Joy. But the Luftwaffles were full of cheer on their way to the target, because as our wingleader pointed out, we had the Death Star on our side:
http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/2843/deathstarax8.jpg
How could we lose?
Bugged by that question, we set about trying to find out the answer.
Eventually we found some Soviets to play with, Pe3s I believe, and Hunter set about demolishing them with vigour, halted only when he got two IL-16s on his tail. Raptor, well, we're not sure what happened to Raptor but it resulted in him parachuting into downtown Murmansk. However, Oberon was as pleased as punch, finally a fairly slow moving target for him to shoot at!
Sadly, it shot back:
http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/4107/awcrapgf5.jpg
After a mutual benefaction of German/Soviet relations had taken place through the exchange of munitions, Oberon broke for home, but his engine was making decidedly un-Daimler Benz-ish noises. And to compound matters, the two IL-16s who were still following Hunter spotted an easy prey. Oberon attempted to dive into the cloud to escape, but they kept coming, when suddenly a rattle of MG fire meant only one thing! Hunter to the rescue!!
http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/7365/huntersavesthedaytf6.jpg
The IL-16s, confused by this new predator, fled the scene, and as Oberon descended into the cloud layer, his worst fear came true. The fine piece of German engineering in front of him sadly passed away.
Nearly three grid squares from the front lines at three thousand meters? Could he make it home?
http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/8374/itsgulagtimenj2.jpg
Nyet Tovarich.
Less than half a grid square from the front lines, the 109 skidded into the snow. The Catmissars teleporting in to arrest Oberon the second he leapt from the wreck. He can, perhaps, take solace in the fact that he will no doubt be imprisoned with Gulag favourite Raptor1, who can show him the ropes.
Hunter, meanwhile, continued home, and despite zero visibility, managed to make an almost flawless landing.
http://img388.imageshack.us/img388/7527/huntersurvivesny8.jpg
Meanwhile, the Pe-3 which Oberon had danced with, landed, taxied into the ramp and disappeared, never to be seen again. As Oberon was marched by the Catmissars to the Gulag, he suddenly felt as if he had shot down an enemy plane. He was rather confused at how he had managed this, but happy that he had shot something anyway.
So ends todays story.

In the second sortie I was attacking a Pe-3, my engine got shot to pieces by the tail gunner and another Peshka decided it was time to put that idiot with the wingtip smoke out of his misery, which of course ended in my burning plane crashing into the icy waters of the Kola Inlet and me parachuting into downtown Murmansk
I really should attack them from some different angle

Looks like you comrades had a fun again. Have you decided on which is your favourite gulag already? I'm sorry I wasn't able to join you, as I was drafted to help our II/JG53 comrades in our old "home" in Afrika. I still made the enemy pay dearly by shooting down three B-17s on the first mission and four Spitfires on the second, so not everything was lost.
I hope they send some of those excellent G-2s to the north too
Those Pe-2s and -3s are imho best attacked from their high 4-5 or 7-8 o'clock. The AI rear gunners seem to have a hard time hitting you at that angle.

Too afraid to go near the rear sector of a B-17, this typical to my attacks. I come in from the most exotic angles :)

The second mission we got whooped by PE-3's and I-16's I managed to shoot down a Pe-3 before I got chased by I-16's with no wingman left, as the last 109 survivor and low on ammo I ran home with the tail between my legs

The MK108 option comes with G6, while the MG151/20 gunpods can be installed in G2 already. In that bomber mission I had the gunpods installed, while I did not have them against the Spits.
That MK108 is a real beast btw, according to this (http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/WW2guneffect.htm) almost five times the destructive power of the MG151/20.
This vid would almost frighten me should I fly a Spit against an MK108 armed Luftwaffel:

So, what did Der Dicke have in store for us tonight?
Brand new shiney 190s! Hunter and Fin were overjoyed, however less than overjoyed when found they had to babysit some Condors on their way to obliterate a Russkie airfield. Oberon took one look at this strange new plane, and ran crying to his 109.
Hunter donned his spy mask and went undercover in Raptors gulag to find out where the enemy would be. Oh yes...they're heading straight for the 109s, all 43 of them. *gulp*
So, off we jolly well soared, the 109s heading for their patrol position behind friendly lines (a bridge Petsamo way if memory serves me correct) and the 190s headed off to find their bombers.
For a good half an hour, neither group found anything. Oberon was beginning to suspect that his four 109s had scared away the entire Soviet airforce when suddenly his wingmen peeled away, at about the same time Hunter and Fin stumbled across the lumbering Condors who were making their way to altitude at a snails pace.
"Tally ho, I've got six...erm...I don't know what they are..."
The Peshkas returneth! As Oberon moved into position, the Peshka dived away, then spun around, but he was back behind him and threw a fistful of cannon and MG fire into it. The Peshka laughed and carried on as the AI vultures descended and got all the credit. :damn:
Eventually they made their way away, and Oberon was left in an empty sky again, having futily blasted at two Peshkas for little return.
Little did the fleeing Peshkas know, however, that awaiting them on their route back to Murmansk were two hungry butcher birds.
"Shall I take the smoking one?"
"You take him, I'll take the lead one."
*two seconds later*
"Bye bye!"
Oberon begun to regret his choice of aircraft as he hastened towards the area, but by the time he arrived, the Peshkas were geography. So, on to the Tomahawks! Heavy with bombs and fuel, the P40s were heading north towards their target bridge, exactly where Oberon had just come from.
Schiesse!
Full throttle and back we go again!
Back on target area, Oberon heard something whilst climbing through cloud. Was it his wingman, or the elusive P40s? He turned back and circled after leaving the cloud, there! Heading north!
"I've got two contacts, no idea what yet, closing to ID."
He closed, and the contacts zoomed past, not opening fire and seemingly uninterested in the two 109s circling around behind them. Were they friendly? Surely they had to be if they hadn't opened fire?
Oberon closed, as Hunter and Fin closed in from the south-east. And then, as he flew over the first of the two contacts, the Red Star and layout was blindingly obvious.
"I've got two Hurricanes!!"
Throwing another fistful of cannon and MG fire into the rear of the lead Hurricane, it soon dissolved into a dance, with Hunter and Fin chasing the Hurricanes and IL16s (who had decided to join at a different altitude) and Oberon trying to elude a very angry Hurri.
"I've got one...and one just rammed me."
There went Fin, parachuting out, just over enemy lines (I think) Gulag time there possibly.
Meanwhile, Hunters 190 had seen better days...
http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5862/rudderjv8.jpg
With an engine sounding like a cross between a washing machine and a cement mixer and his rudder not responding, Hunter decided that perhaps it was time to return to base. Oberon, who by now had lost everyone and was wandering around his own section of sky, regrouped his one surviving wingman and headed back to base too, although not so fast as to allow Hunter time to get to the runway, but alas, the fine German kit in front of Hunters cockpit didn't seem to want to go home, and he had to bail.
However, near Murmansk, several tons of finest German made explosives rained down upon the enemy airbase, pretty much obliterating it.
http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/3929/condorbombingpl6.jpg
As the Condors turned for home, a lot lighter but still about as fast as a Sinclair C5, Oberon woke up Schultz and turned in for his final approach:
http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/1330/landingtimeox8.jpg
With enough bumps to make any Spitfire or Hurricane pilot cry ("Bumps a daisy, it's enough to make ya weep" :know: ) Oberon was down, and with an intact undercarriage. Bonus!

YOU are not getting anywhere near my 109 G2.  I just got upgraded from my 109 F2.
So, the first mission of the evening so far  Written from beyond the grave!
The intrepid three (Raptor, Oberon, HunterICX) set off, with Hunter and Raptor taking the 190s against ground targets in Murmansk and Oberon in his trusty 109 taking on air targets nearby.
Oberon led the takeoff, then his 109 troupe, then Hunter and his 190s. Raptor, ever eager to return to Uncle Joe, overtook Hunter and took off from the taxi-way.
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/4981/catstapozp0.jpg
Eventually, we took to the sky and rolled onwards towards Murmansk. On the way, we heard much 'Perkele' from the Finns as they tackled and were tackled by the Russkies:
http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/2865/21102008215605fe9.jpg
As Hunter and Raptor spotted their bandits, Oberons 109s peeled off and headed off somewhere, so Oberon followed, since their eyesight was much better than his.
Raptor set to work destroying Murmansk, taking out two factories (amended) and a train car before Murmansk destroyed him. His flaming wreckage will provide a good source of fuel for many families in the coming days!
Meanwhile, Hunter set about on a bomb run on a nearby airfield, his wingman strafed and killed a Peshka whilst Hunter killed a Russian field mouse sheltering nearby.
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/3654/21102008220654oz9.jpg
Oberon wandered around, trying to find his way into a dogfight, finally he spotted tracers and throttled in to find the rest of his wing attacking some P40s, whilst nearby Hunter tackled 'Peshkas from hell'
Oberon followed a smoking P40 and put it into the ground, only for his number two to claim the kill (schwein), so then he tacked onto another smoking P40 which really did not seem to want to die:
http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/681/gunsightcj0.jpg
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/4184/21102008221500fs5.jpg
So, he closed in to short range, remembering the Dicta Boelcke:
3. Fire only at close range and only when your opponent is properly in your sights.
http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/7620/21102008221637ms7.jpg
3a. Just...not that close...
With Raptor and Oberon safely buried in the gulag graveyard, Hunter headed for home, not exactly in mint condiction:
http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/6609/21102008221727uo8.jpg
However, on his way he came across an airfield, with P40s freshly landed...what respectable Lolwaffle pilot could possibly turn down such an opportunity? Certainly not Leutnant HunterICX!
http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/2716/21102008222320qo6.jpg
However, the Russians were not out for the count, with another of Stalins secret weapons making its appearance! As Hunter strafed a P40, its hydraulics kicked into gear. Russian gangster music blasted out across the airfield, as the P40 hopped up and down.
http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/2873/21102008222344ee0.jpg
As his airfield killing antics ended, Hunter found his plane somewhat colder than usual due to over-adequate ventilation:
http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/7259/21102008222435bg9.jpg
However, a safe landing was made:
http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/7288/21102008223448gf2.jpg
Finucuan joined the intrepid trio for their second sortee which had Raptor, Oberon and Hunter in Ju88s in an air start on a bombing run on a Russian airfield, with their cover, Fin in his 109, having to start on the ground several miles away. German mission planning at its finest once again.
The group descended through the cloud layer, the lead formation almost bombing Oberon in mid air, the bombs whistling past him as he tried hard to make out the airfield buildings in front. Unable to find something decent to bomb on his first pass, he was shot at by an AA cannon, which he then selected as the target for his second pass.
Since Oberon has still not learnt how to bomb from altitude, his bombing run was conducted at a low altitude, and his bombs were set on impact detonation...
I think you can see where this is going, and why this mission report is being written whilst mission two is still in progress... :hmm:
Over to Hunter, Fin and Raptor for highlights of the second mission... :arrgh!:

It's one of the nicest handling planes in high speed(> 400 km/h). It doesn't like to be close to stall speed as a 109. The good elevator authority at high speeds, which allows you to pull those high speed stalls that are impossible with a 109, are a great asset when diving on the enemy from above. Imho all FWs feel extremely good when flying, but fighting with them is a bit more challenging

Goring
Gut Morgan Mein Luftwaffles!
Today your mission iz to destroy ze Soviet Air Force, to do zis ve vill gif you four Messerschmits!
Oberon
I want a squadron of Spitfires!
Goring
Quiet you at the back!
Raptor
TRAITORS!!
And so started another mission briefing for the Luftwaffles, four 109s against dozens of Soviet airplanes, including the 'Peshkas from Hell'. HunterICX, Raptor1, Fincuan and Oberon had a feeling that this was not going to end particularly well.
We had the runway to ourselves and took off without much ado, with Oberon signalling for assistance futily.
"Ve vill send fighters to your positions!" cried Schultz
"Ja, ja, ja." thought the Luftwaffles.
After fifteen to twenty minutes in the air, the first bandits arrived, I-16s, with Hunter, Fin and Raptor getting stuck right in, Oberon took one look at the mass slaughter and held back, sure that another one would come along in a minute. He was about to dive in and assist Hunter who had got an I-16 on his tail and was badly shot up, when he spotted six dots on the horizon.
'Peshkas from hell!!'
The I-16s dispatched, and Hunter saved by Fin, the Luftwaffles turned towards their next target, Oberon curved in behind the Peshkas, but they had moved when he completed his turn, so he had to repeat the process. During this time Hunter took one bullet too many and lost control, so out he went, fortunately over friendly territory. Oberon curved in behind the Peshkas, and as Fin received a windscreen full of oil, he finally managed to make a kill! The Peshkas wing snapped off and down she went in a nice spiral. All was good, so he made a line up on the second Peshka as Fin dispatched one post haste, however this Peshka had taken his secret supply of vodka and nailed Oberons engine, spewing smoke and oil all over his windshield.
"Aww, that's not fair, how am I going to shoot you through this?!" muttered Oberon as he tried to line up for another shot, then the Peshka opened fire again, and this time fire erupted around the smoke, and Oberon knew that it was time to leave the office.
http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/8242/22102008213943nx7.jpg
By this time, Raptor and Fin's aircraft had seen better days, Fin was leaking glycol and Raptors 109 looked like a sieve.

Worse was to come for Raptor, however, as the I-16 which had been following him, decided to make its move:
http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/5287/22102008214118jm7.jpg
With wreckage and parachutes littering the landscape, Fin came home and made his landing, bump, jump and undercarriage failure, the Lolwaffles trademark landing technique. Oberon and Hunter were picked up by the Catstapo and subjected to the horrors of a Q&A by Goring.
It was decided...vengence must be ours!

Hunter
So our mission is to go here and bomb everything that moves or doesn't move
Raptor
That's a map of England
Hunter
All of our budget went on new 109s and the bill for your stay at Uncle Joes, so imagine that this is Murmansk...
Raptor
Can I imagine that I'm flying a Do 19?
Hunter
No!
With Raptor and Hunter in Ju88s, and Fin, Oberon and welcome returner Xabba in 109s, the Lolwaffles walked out of the Base Bar, and straight into a raging thunderstorm. No sooner had the 109s been parked on the runway than the wind was blowing them in circles, the three fighters must have wished that they had taken the heavier 88. However, with plenty of left rudder, the 109s were airborne, dodging lightning bolts as they climbed.
They fought their way through the cloud layer and up into the sunlight where they levelled off and grouped up, ready to escort the 88s when they got up. But Hunter had looked at the route and the bombload and decided eventually that by the time they had gotten above the clouds they would most likely be over the target, and so wisely decided to remain below the clouds. Fin, suggested that the 109s scout ahead for trouble, and Oberon, who realised to his horror that he was the staffel leader for something more than the AI, agreed and then prayed to god that he didn't get everyone killed.
Up ahead, some Junkers were being shot at and massacred, their crews jumping out and then killed by Russian flak, the 109s saw the tracers and tried to close, but the action was pretty much over by the time they arrived, however Fin then spotted some 'Peshkas from hell' and dived in, Oberon turned to intercept, but overegged it and blacked out, coming to at 710km/h heading towards the ground. With plenty of swearing and a check to see that the wings were still on, he climbed back up, but by then the action was all over. Hunter and Raptor meanwhile continued their bombing run and depopulated Murmansk of at least four factories and a train car. As the bombers were turning for home, passing over the wreckage of those who had gone before, Oberon decided to call it a day, and as Fin approached from his twelve o clock and Xabba from his nine, the 109s formed up and headed home, with only a test from Xabba to see how long a full burst of MG fire would last to interupt the journey.
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/1589/lolwafflescb9.jpg

However, eventually the 109s could stay above the clouds no longer, they would have to descend, back down to the airbase and into that turbulent storm raged hell.
Fin was the first to land, deciding to boycott the runway and land on the parkway.

Oberon continued to circle, looking for a gap where he could land after everyone else, so if it all went horribly wrong, he wouldn't hold up the rest of the squadron. Raptor landed at some point, but then drama! Schultz came through on the radio telling a Ju88 to "Nicht landen" however, the Ju88 ignored him "Negative, I'm going in!" and with one engine heavily damaged, made his landing, and survived...right up to the point where he got to the taxi-way, parked up and exploded...

Oberon, during this drama turned over the runway, dropped his gear and flaps and tried to join Fin on the parkway, this resulted in the trademark loss of undercarriage, so well know amongst the Lolwaffle. Xabba went one stage further and crashed into a tree. Finally, Hunter made his approach to a runway with a 109 taxi-ing on it.
Fin
"Runway isn't clear!"
Oberon
"Nicht Landen, ich wiederhole, Nicht Landen!!"
Hunter used his rudder to slide across to the taxi-way and put the Ju88 down there, thankful that it was a big heavy bomber he was piloting and not the 'tip over on a pfenning' Me109.

Thus ended todays missions.

The same folder you installed the game in
If you didn't change anything, should be:
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946Excellent, thanks.
Now please be patient with this nub. I've popped it into that folder, but when I run the game, it still says 4.07m in the corner.
Am I meant to run the patch, or just pop it into the folder? Perhaps i'll need to download it again, and not try saving it to desktop first? When i double click it, it asks what program I want to use to open it with.
help!

If you have the same patch as I do then it's a self-extracting .rar that is zipped with a readme. First you unzip it which should result in an .exe and a readme.txt. You run the .exe and it asks for your IL2 installation path. Once it has as extracted all the files you should be done.

All of our budget went on new 109s and the bill for your stay at Uncle Joes, so imagine that this is Murmansk...

While we're on the topic (or, to be more precise it, off it) how do you install the 4.09 beta? I can't seem to install it correctly?

The good news gentlemen, is that the patch is now installed, as is TS2, and I shall endeavour to join you asap in the air (or probably on the ground:lol: )

The Ura Guba bridge must stand!
http://free.of.pl/s/stalin/grafika/stalin10.jpg
Stalin: Zese bridges, they are nelkulturney...the Germans they drive over them in their tanks...if we destroy bridges, then we destroy Germans, yes?
General: Well..
Stalin: Yes, Comrade?
General: (sigh) Yes, Comrade
Stalin: Then it shall be, not one step back! Ura Guba bridge must die!!
With that dramatic statement, the entire Soviet airforce mobilised to destroy Ura Guba bridge, meanwhile, on the other side of the front it was business as usual for the Lolwaffles, until Hunter heard word from Raptors contacts in the Gulag that the entire Soviet airforce was heading for Ura Guba bridge. The Condor bombers that the Lolwaffles were to escort, they would be completely unmolested. Thus, a plan was hatched.
Oberon took the lead 109, Hunter took number five and Raptor took the lead 190, the 110s were left to the mercies of the AI and never seen again.
They took to the air, and set off for AW17, Ura Guba bridge!
On arrival, who should turn up but Hunters favourites, the Peshkas from hell!
Oberon, Hunter and Raptor dived in to help themselves, Oberon almost immediately took an engine hit and turned back for base, then Hunter dived out of the way of the Peshkas and went to ground level after some I-16s. This did not go so well...
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/1769/hunterintroubletl1.jpg
The I-16s came to the conclusion that Me109s operate at peak efficiency with two wings, and therefore deprived Hunter of one of them. A short spiral to the ground later and Hunter was down.
Raptor meanwhile was still tackling the Peshkas from hell, one fell and victorious Raptor lined up behind another. Sadly for Raptor, the Peshka happened to be the only Peshka in the Soviet airforce to be constructed from the same skin as the Hindenburg and with a special Hydrogen tank on board.
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/3171/23102008221532jq3.jpg
By this time, Oberon was over the frontlines and his engine had had enough, drifting long enough to be sure that he was out of the reach of the Catmissars, Oberon took one look at the rocky terrain below, and jumped out of the 109.
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/655/bailyv6.jpg
Hunter was fuming, revenge was needed.
So Goring gave us our opportunity for vengence, by pitting our four 109s against the entire Soviet airforce....again...
Hunter, naturally, was overjoyed v
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/7941/tld1pe4.jpg
However, the Soviets were still taxing around in their pimp-P40s and Peshkas from Hell by the time the 109s were on station, so a calm fifteen-twenty minutes was spent circling and waiting. Oberon used this time to practice his formation flying skills, badly...
http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/7366/oberonandhunterbo9.jpg
Eventually, the Lolwaffles first customers showed up, I-16s, Hunter went in first and engaged, a quick gun burst and the I-16 was gone in a fireball.
http://img373.imageshack.us/img373/9228/huntertakesonthei16sra8.jpg
Oberon approached the second I-16 as Hunter turned away, and opened fire at almost point blank range, and nothing. Rather frustrated, he turned away and watched Raptor and Hunter divide the rest between them. He spent so long watching them, in fact, that his 109 spiraled down and smashed into the ground without him noticing. His last thoughts as he plummeted into the ground were "I wonder if the ground crew put peas in my machine gun ammo?"
Hunter and Raptor continued the hunt, Raptor curving after a particularly slippery P40 which gave him the run around for several minutes, whilst Hunter took down a Peshka from hell and then got out of dodge before the other angry Peshkas got their revenge.
Both returned to the airfield and landed safely as the air raid sirens went off warning of an incoming Soviet raid, probably the Peshkas from hell again :damn:
Good read! I wish I'd knew yesterday that I'll oversleep today and wont go to work, I would've joined you guys.
