Out of a bit of frustration of no large playable American surface ships, I decided to make one myself. I chose the Northampton/Portland class since the Indianapolis was the first US Navy ship I ever heard of, and it's reasonably big to provide some intense battles.

If any talented modders out there could look at this and help me figure out what's wrong, I'll definetely be indebted to you.

UPDATE: 0.6 Version ready. I linked the 8 inch guns to the Northampton node but it didn't make a difference for me. Maybe it does for you, take a look:

It's JGSME ready, just unzip to your mods folder. W4lter's range fix is already integrated.

Could you be more specific on "it doesn't work"?

I can click on US Career mode, and I can put in the settings. No trouble there, Northampton Cruiser shows up at Pearl Harbor. But when I click Start then the game crashes. It leads me to believe something is wrong with either the Roster files or the UPCCampaign data, but I've combed that area again and again and I can't find anything out of the ordinary.

Also, I kind of just wanted an opinion from someone who knows better about any files I'm missing or can delete. I'm not sure whether some parts are essential to make it run.

I don't think it'sthe Campaign data because it crashes in Single Mission too.

I did a search but couldn't find the post. Somewhere I asked about doing a PT Boat and Xantro told me some stuff that needed to be added and I think he mention at least one torp tube, dive planes, but I don't remember the rest. I thought I saved his response but I can't find it.

-submarine upc file
-submarine dive planes
-submainre roster file

when you won't have some things you must set the visibility to 0, do not delete them!

Did you read Mikhayl's turorial about making it 'stand alone'? Great place to start.

UPDATE: Work halted since for one I'm in Hawaii with a 56k connection for the next week or so, and two because I'm going to try to put in a playable Huge European Liner to see if everything besides the guns is done correctly. The Liner should be done about a week after I get back if everything goes according to plan.

Way ahead of ya mate! Been there and done it. The boats always look so small in this game...And I was surprised (though I shouldn't have been) at how realistic SH4's interiors are. I was disgusted that the only torpedoes they displayed were Mk 14's, those are an insult to the sub force :p I'm on Maui right now with my grandmother.

Not exactly halted. I'm stuck at the moment (help is appreciated. I'll post my latest version in a minute). Plus I'm working on three ships at once now, hoping that one of the others will help me with this one (Huge European Liner and T3 Tanker + Northampton at the same time).

Oh no, not 3 ships at the same time:down:

Force yourself to make one ready. after this you can work on another one.
For the second you have more experience and previous work done:up:

I have some fixes for you.
I note what I changed so you can look at it for reference.

You did not have any front dive planes. The dive plane Ax is only the connection between the right and left dive planes. Added dive planes to .dat file
The Unit_Submarine was not added right. Fixed
Added the dive plnae to corrected Unit_sub in sim file.

You did not have a Torpedo tube. Need at least one. added in .dat file(basically the doors)
The subtorpedosys in .sim was not connected to the ship with 'parent ID'
Added the tube doors to the wpn_Subtorpedosys in sim.

It now goes into the game without CTD.

Some other things noticed but not fixed:
Your textures are wrong, don't know why.
In your ships .upc you need to get rid of second Deck Gun. Can only have one.
Also get rid of it in the Upgrade Slots section.
Front two guns are missing due (I think) to the two deck guns in .upc.
M01 is there but is a Deck gun, that is what you have it set to in the Upc

It should be set to the one you have in Weapons.upc I think an 8inch Soclu or something like that. Edit: also if you don't want your gun to change, get rid on the ....Default2= and change the date on Default1= so it is there for the whole war.

Basically need work on the upc file , get rid of second Deck gun (and crewmembers for it etc.)and figure out why the textures are wrong and fix the gun problem.

That will get you started anyway. Didn't check everything.

Here is corrected (partially?) .dat and .sim files. Let me know when you get them and I will delete from filefront.

Image looks totally different than when I had it:up:. The gun is exactly what he has in upc, so it's working just didn't put the right one in. The front one is probably the M02 node, that was a pain in the neck until I figured out what was going on. Correction he's probably missing the M01, right?

Bumped because this deserves it. In the 0.5, is the front gun issue fixed yet?

*edit* Okay, i tested this with the PE 3.something and no other mods on and i got CTDed.. Odd. i'll take a peek into the mod files later, propably.

Not really, I posted 0.6 up there but I'm fresh out of ideas on what could be causing this. I mean, I don't have the faintest connection between the crash and a certain file or anything. I'm kind of waiting for some people who know better to step in and figure it out.

I don't know if there is any connection with this, but I did the Maya and the Fuso and it was 1,2,3, and it worked. Had a few minors typing mistakes, but it went fairly smooth. (Still some things to tweak but they work)
But Horsa decided to take a break and passed the Iowa to me to work on, and I did the same procedure as the other two, won't work. I don't know if there is a difference with the Japanese and American ships (I wouldn't think so) but I can get it "in game" but I can't get the guns on it without adding a "slot_M01" and a camera and I only get the deck gun, I don't get the other turrets. In the other two I put the camera in the gun, so I could move it without moving the gun. It doesn't seem to work with the Iowa.

So I may be starting over from scratch to see if I can figure it out. If I come up with anything I will let you know, it may apply to the Northampton too.

Did you get the files I posted for you? I had it "in game" with no CTD but no working guns either.
