View Full Version : Is there a way to stop floating docks sinking in rough weather?

Hi, sometimes I get the urge to return to port after a long patrol rather than just "exit patrol", and it is a shame that ships move about and end up merged with walls etc, a stock hard coded bug I believe.:down:
But I think some objects like the Floating Docks just sink because of bad weather:

They are still far enough away from the concrete walls etc so I figure it must be, is there away to make these floating Docks a little tougher?:-?
Just by the way, I think there was a quick way to traverse the Kiel Canal, can someone point it out? Thanks.

Put them over 10 meters of shallow waters... :lol:

But seriously... its just a configuration of the .sim files... they are sitted down too much on the water... and besides, that wave amplitude of 320 from GWX ruins everything...

This is the sim file settings, the Surfaced draught is 0:

Any ideas?:yep:

Set it to match the cfg file.
This is the sinking ship bug you hear about.
The sim not being fixed correctly.

Increase the submerged draught to 30 and do some tests...

If you get the opposite effect, then try 5...

I'm pretty tired right now, so I may have spoken bullsh!t...

Settings for Dock 1:

[Unit]
ClassName=BuV_Dock1
UnitType=12
MaxSpeed=0
Length=130
Width=40
Mast=25
Draft=5
Displacement=26000; in T
RenownAwarded=25

Settings for Dock 2:

[Unit]
ClassName=BuV_Dock2
UnitType=12
MaxSpeed=0
Length=130
Width=40
Mast=17
Draft=13
Displacement=33200; in T
RenownAwarded=30

Could you tell me what value to set where please?:yep:

Changing submerged draught to 30 does nothing, this is what it looks like leaving Kiel:

Thanks BBW, only I doubt that this has fixed it, looks the same, the wind speed is 6 meters/s, the pitch & roll of the dock is way too much IMO.
On a rise:

On a dip:

Only I wouldn't be able to see the actual results till I return on the next patrol.:yep:

Ah right
Not sure what value controls the pitch and roll but yes let me know what looks like when you dock
Off on a patrol now too so will see

Is there one in Wilhelmshaven :hmm:
Ah yes

Something sinking due to heavy seas is often because a objects 'zone' has a 'Crash Depth' value specified in the Zones.cfg that is not deep enough.

Crash Depth=5 specifies that when this zone is at this depth, 5 metres, then it will take on damage and thus flood.

Hope this helps.

I just wish the game allowed a difference between harbors and high seas. The whole point of having a "safe haven" is to have a place where your ships are, well, "safe". There should be almost no motion in a harbor, or at least much less than you find on the outside.

Well back from patrol, I only saved & exited once and patrol only lasted a few weeks, when I got back the Floating Docks had moved apart from each other and drifted a little but still afloat, previously the carrier had merged with the concrete dock slightly but was still in it's proper place this time, will have to test again later, don't know what setting you changed BBW, but may have done the job!:yep:
Thanks.

The surfaced draft was set to 0 in the sim
I set it as the cfg file
5 for the BUV 1 and 13 for the BUV 2

Drift into harbours is a royal PITA
It would have been better for harbours to be rendered first instead its the ships
They move in the sea by the time the harbours are rendered so can end up in them

Could be a lot more units placed in ports ( for those that have a system to handle it ) but darent due to those issues

Tis worse the longer you stay in ship render range before entering harbour rendering range

Slightly off topic, but this can happen in SH4 too. Just saw this the other day...

As many units from SH3 are being imported to SH4?
Guess what?
If not fixed for SH3, then it's imported to SH4?
What do you suppose is going to happen.
I also would not be surprised to see stock SH4 units with the same
stock mismatched files.
(Notice I did not say bug?)
It's NOT a bug!
It's just mis-codeing between working files.
The program works fine if the files are corrected.
If it was a true bug?
The files would be fine but the Program would be FUBARed.
